Chapter I
Cousins
Hiashi Hyūga was always a shy guy. Yes he was proud, yes he was stubborn, but that didn't come close to his shyness. In his early years, he would stutter, crack, and sometimes faint from too much pressure. That all changed though, when he met two amazing people. His future wife, Hana, and his first cousin, Kushina.
Hana was a Hyūga Main branch member while Kushina was an Uzumaki. Hiashi's father had a sister that was married off to a member of the Uzumaki Clan as a way of solidifying their clan's alliance.
This wasn't uncommon. The Hyūga and Uzumaki found that they worked better together than any other clans. They also had a mutual respect for each other and it was decided that the two clans would unite under the blood bond.
However, since the Uzumaki didn't have the Byakugan, the Hyūga married one of their women off to a good Uzumaki man. When the descendants of the marriage were noted as having a very powerful Byakugan, it was decided that the clans would keep their alliance up through marriage.
Though Kushina had the potential of possessing the Byakugan, she never exhibited it. But what she lacked in eyesight she made up in her fury. Kushina, like any true Uzumaki, had a violent temper. This one of the reasons people called her The Red Hot Chili Habanero. She was also called that because of her dark red hair, a classic Uzumaki trait.
The first time Hiashi met her, he had no idea how much she would mean to him.
It was a typical summer day, Hiashi and his brother Hizashi were at the gates with their father as a Konoha Shinobi arrived walking beside a young girl with red hair and violet eyes. She was nervous as she approached the gates. "You must be Kushina, I am your uncle. You will be staying with us for a while." Hiashi's father said as she looked at her unimpressed in her appearance. Kushina clearly a Hyūga's slender frame, but her hair and face were definitely Uzumaki. Hiashi studied the young girl that stood there.
"Hiashi, Hizashi, introduce yourselves to your cousin!" Hiashi's father barked as he saw his sons stand there. "I'm H-Hiashi Hyuga...n-nice to meet you." Hiashi managed to get out with great effort. "I'm Hizashi Hyūga, I'm not sure about Hiashi, but you're pretty weird looking. Your hair reminds me of a tomato."
Kushina didn't waste anytime to make Hizashi an example of calling her a tomato. Hizashi wouldn't be able to fight for a while after Kushina was done. Hiashi was scared by her. But as Kushina looked at him, she quickly changed her face into a bright, foxy smile. "Hiashi right?" She asked. Hiashi was amazed at just how fast she went from deadly to friendly. He nodded his head. "That's a cool name, I hope we can be awesome cousins dattebane." She said. Hiashi's father shook his head, Kushina clearly picked that habit up from her father. Yes Asana had a habit of using that slang quite a bit.
"I hope so too." Hiashi said as he finally opened up and stopped stuttering. "Kushina, you still need to visit Lady Mito immediately." The Konoha Shinobi said. Kushina smiled before she hugged both of her cousins and took off after the Shinobi.
'That was years ago, yet it's still as fresh as ever.' Hiashi thought as he looked at a picture that hung from his wall. It was himself, Hizashi, Kushina, and Minato on Minato's and Kushina's wedding. Hana was sick that day and didn't attend the wedding ceremony because of it. Hizashi wanted to straight up not be there. Hiashi, well, he had no idea how much emotion he would get from watching his cousin, a person who became as close as a sister to him, get married.
Kushina's father, Asana Uzumaki, had died not long after Kushina travelled to Konoha. An invasion of her hometown resulted in the destruction of her family and her home town in general. The few Uzumaki's who survived scattered. That was a heartbreaking experience in Kushina's life. She almost lost control of the beast that was sealed inside her upon her arrival.
Fortunately, she didn't lose control, but now had the burden of carrying the beast in her. It made her much more alert and more dangerous if someone tried to take her. Hiashi did his best protecting his cousin, but Minato was better at it.
Minato was a blonde haired, blue eyed Namikaze boy. He was quiet, but very friendly and strong. Minato had taken a liking to Kushina. And oddly enough, Kushina started to take a liking to him. They eventually got married because of their relationship with eachother. Practically the whole village was expecting it to happen.
After their wedding, the world went into war and everyone began fighting. Konoha emerged on top of everyone else based on one thing, Minato. Minato became Konoha's Yellow Flash because of his iconic jutsu, The Flying ThunderGod technique.
When the war was over, Minato became the Fourth Hokage and Kushina became an expecting mother. The day she told Hiashi she was pregnant was also the same day Hana told him she was pregnant. An experience that he never forgot.
Kushina walked up to the gate that guarded the Hyūga Compound. "Hello I need to speak with Hiashi please." She said to a young guard. "Might have a name to tell him?" The guard asked. He didn't know of right to passage. This caused Kushina to become pissed. "Oh Mrs. Kushina, welcome." An older guard said as he instantly recognized her. Kushina smiled, thanked the guard, and walked through the gate.
Hiashi was in the middle of what counted as a family room when Kushina walked up to him. "Hey Hiashi." She said as she smiled at her cousin. "Kushina! What do I owe this happy honor of you being here?" Hiashi asked as he smiled. "Hana Kushina is here!" He called. Hana came out and swiftly hugged Kushina. "Oh Kushina how have you been?" Kushina smiled her classic, foxy smile. "I have been doing well if it weren't for the added pain of carrying a heavy rascal everywhere I go." "You seriously have to carry Minato everywhere you go?" Hana asked. "Well...not Minato but his son sure is heavy." Hiashi finally got a good look at Kushina. She was probably in her second trimester. "K-Kushina, you mean to say..." "He's expected on October tenth." She said with a smile.
Hana was the first one to break, she gently hugged Kushina and laughed. "Oh Kushina that's wonderful, perhaps your child will be great friends with ours." "H-Hana, you mean that you-" "Yes Hiashi, I'm pregnant, our child is due on December twenty-seventh." Hana said with a glow that was so bright that it could put the lights in the room to shame.
Hiashi could only do one thing at that moment, he fainted.
Hiashi couldn't help but smile at the precious memories he had. Then he heard the sound of two kids running his way. He looked in time to see a blonde-haired boy and a indigo-haired girl run his way. Both had bright blue eyes and four little whisker marks. They were followed by a man and woman. The woman was clearly a Hyūga, or was one, and the man had the blue eyes and whisker marks as the kids that were tackling Hiashi.
Hiashi pretended to resist and finally fall to the floor laughing as his two favorite grandchildren crowded him laughing with him. "Alright, enough trying to kill your grandfather." Hinata said as Boruto and Himawari quickly clambered off their grandfather and looked down. "Hinata, I wasn't going to die from these two tackling me." Hiashi said as he got up albeit roughly.
You might wonder how exactly Naruto and Hinata, technically second cousins, became husband and wife. I will tell you their story, the story of how the Hyūga and Uzumaki were finally able to unite once and for all. A tale of Uzumaki and Hyūga.
