It is time for to go to the aptitude test. However I am so nervous . The rules stated that we can't prepare for the test so I don't know what to expect. The night before the exam , I roll back and forth on the bed . I stretch myself and can't fall asleep.

Then someone knocks on the door . I think that may be Maria or beatrice or even both. They like to sleep with me when they have nightmare

"Come in please." I say

The door opens and mom comes in. She looks tired but she must have something to say to me so urgently.

"Can I come in and talk to you?" She smiles at me

"Yes please comes in and sits down."I sit up

She comes in and sits beside me . She looks pale as moon light.

"Violet, what I am going to say is very important . You have to believe me ." Mom brushes my hair

"Of course , I will always believe you." I giggle

"I have to tell you that you can choose whatever faction you want because that is my responsibility but for some reason that I have to tell you." She stops for a while. "You have to leave abnegation and seek other faction. You have to choose dauntless."

I am startle by what she said . Why is she telling me to leave

"Why mom? Why you are telling me to leave ." I open my eyes wide

"No question for this Violet. There is a big secret on you Violet . I can't tell you what but you have to trust me. The truth will come out eventually." Mom kisses my forehead . "It will make you safe only when you arrive in dauntless. I love you always."

"Okay mom, I trust you and I will." I bite my lips . "How about my dad ."

She shakes her head . My dad will hate me if I leave

"He will understand that one day. Violet, it is only about you not anyone else ." Mom hugs me . "Promise that you will leave ."

"I promise you." I sigh

I wake up the second morning around 5am. I can't sleep anymore so I get up. What big secret that on me will have to make me leave abnegation and choose dauntless? When will the secret reveal?

I have to find out eventually but I know that must be related to the fact that I lost all my memories before when I was 16 years old . Sometime I had the blurry dream about them but they are no use .

I get up and dressed up in grey. Ted already went back to dauntless because he got his job a few days ago. I am happy for him but he doesn't know that I will be going soon.

When it is time for breakfast, I walk downstair into the cafeteria . Today beatrice is making the breakfast and I have to make dinner . Our last dinner together as a family.

"Good morning sister." Maria hugs me .

"Good morning sweet heart." I kiss her forehead . "Do you guys want to go with me to the aptitude test?"

"We can go?" Beatrice turns around

I nod at them. Caleb shakes his head . I know that he wants to stay at home . He always like to read.

"I will stay at home ." Caleb rolls his eyes

"Yeah sure and reading your book like an erudite ." Maria wiggles her fingers

"Hey Maria , don't be so rude to your elder brother ." Caleb is angry now . At the house describing as erudite will be a huge insult.

I don't want to listen to them fighting all the time so I try to tune out the voice . I stare at the floor until beatrice serves us food . We start eating in quiet mode .

After I finish eating, I lead beatrice and Maria out of the house . We walk alongside the road . The bus are coming back and forth . The erudite cars are everywhere .

The train horn is blaring above my head and tomorrow I will join them for the sake of my mom.

"Are you nervous sister?" Maria smiles at me

"I am not . I am ready for it." I shrug.

"Your facial expression tell me otherwise." Maria says

Someone stop us . I lift my head . Jason is standing there

"Morning three little birds." Jason smiles wide at us . "Want to take my car to school?"

"Thank you for the offering but we can take the bus ." I shake my head .

"It is almost too late for the test." Jason looks at his watch

I know that we will be late but I don't want to cause trouble for him.

"We can run. I don't need you to help me ." I say

However with him insisting to help. We give in. We take his car and he asks the driver to park a little far from the door of the school so no one know it.

"Do you want to come for a dinner with us ." Jason says

"Thank you but I rather have dinner with my own family." I smile at him

We get off the car and walk fast toward the entrance . When we arrive in the cafeteria , everyone are here already. I sit down beside Robert.

"Good morning . What were you doing with Jason coulter in his car?" Robert raises his eyebrows at me

"We are friends and I am almost late so he offers to drive us ." I lower my head . "Nothing else."

I turn my head and look at dauntless. They are shouting and playing card . Erudite are reading book in the constant pursuit of knowledge . Candor are talking quietly but the topic must not be serious because most of them are smiling.

Amity sits in a circle and playing a hand clapping game . Only abnegation is sitting quiet at the table trying to forget ourself . On the other side of the corridor , there are ten rooms . They are only used for aptitude test but I never be in one before

My hand is shaking .

"Are you alright?" Someone asks

Emily is someone from my faction history class .

"I am fine . I am just so nervous ." I shiver

"Don't be nervous . It's not a big deal." Emily smiles

An abnegation teacher comes out. She calls out two names from amity, Candor , erudite , dauntless and then abnegation.

"Robert black and Violet prior ."

I stand up and follow Robert into the corridor . Robert is so relaxed . I don't know either is because he is really confident or he is pretending to be confident.

We stand in front of our door . I stand in front of room 5 and he is standing In front of room 6. The room slowly is opening in front of me

I walk in and a dauntless woman with grey hair stand in front of me . She is cleaning up electrode .

"My name is tori . Sit down and comfortable . I am your examiner today." She doesn't look at me

I sit down in the recline chair and heaving a sigh.

"My name is Violet." I say

"I know who you are ." Tori nods at me .

When she vents , I see a hawk at her back. It must mean something to her

"Why the hawk?" I can't hide my curiosity .

"Never meet a curious abnegation before." Tori brushes her hair away from her face. "I used to be afraid of dark. In some ancient world , the hawk represents a sun. I thought that if I have a sun on me , then I will not afraid of the dark."

"You are afraid of the dark?" I ask again

She pour some liquid into a cup and hand it to me

"I used to be afraid of dark." She shrugs . " drink this ."

"What is it? What is going to happen?" I wander .

"I can't tell you that but please trust me ." Tori says

I drink the liquid and everything gone . I wake up in the cafeteria . Everything disappeared and outside it is snowing. I can only see myself in the mirror

Suddenly two plates appeared in front of me and there is one piece of cheese and a knife .

"Choose ." A woman's voice says

"Why?" I am wandering

"Choose!" She yells at me

I look behind her . No one appears behind me . Then the plate disappeared , so do the knife and the cheese

"Have it your own way."

After the woman's voice disappeared, the door clicks open. I turn around and see who is coming in. However I don't see a who but a what.

A black dog with two black pit with its eyes . It's paw scratching the floor and snarls at me .

I finally understand why the cheese will be handy or the knife but it's too late now . The dog is coming toward me

My biology text book told me the dog can prey on the secrets that human glands release in the state of duress . The smell leads the dog to attack. If looking into the eye is a sign of aggression , what is a sign of submission?

I slowly lower my body toward the ground and move away my eyes from the dog. I am waiting for everything to finish. Then something wet my face and I lift my head , the dog is licking my face .

"You aren't such vicious best aren't you ?" I relief a little . Luckily I didn't pick up the knife

Then a girl with white dress appears behind the dog and she has her arms outstretched.

"Little puppy." She screeches

I want to warn her but it's too late . The dog is running toward her . I stand up and run after the dog and I haul myself on the dog and everything disappeared .

I wake up in the testing room . No one is there and I can't see the reflection in the mirror . Which means that the exam is not over yet .

I push the door opens and walk into the corridor but it isn't a corridor , it's a bus . All the seats are taken and I stand beside a Candor man

Candor man wears black and white suits because they see that truth as black and white so that is what they wear .

"Do you ever know this man?" He asks me pointing at something
