Rivercourt Rambles

Chapter 25

authors note : i knew the last chapter would stir up things. If you've been reading this story long enough. You know where Lucas's insecurity and raw nerve regarding parenthood and paternity was exposed. Victoria and Ted started the ball rolling. And it's been cascading every since.

Remember when Lucas brought up the difference between himself and Anna. Compared to Brooke and Julian. That she had slept with Julian. He never slept with Anna. Brooke and Julian had been romantically involved but that was in the past. At the end of the day. Lucas is in control of his choices and his words.

And Brooke has been worrying and stressing about being left alone to give birth.

Lucas's lack of security in his relationship. And his lack of belief in Brooke's feelings for him. Are making themselves known.

Days Later

Brooke joined the rest of the friend group and Larry Sawyer at the hospital. When Brooke was called by Peyton that she was in labor.

And even though originally Peyton wanted to do it on her own.

She found herself needing love and support. So when Haley and Brooke volunteered to be in the room with her.

She accepted without hesistation.

After 14 hours of labor. Rebecca Ellie Sawyer was born. She had her mom's curly hair and green eyes. Peyton paid tribute to both her moms with her daughter's name. And she was in love. In a way she had never known possible.

...

The two close friends wanted to give mother and baby some privacy. So once Peyton was moved back to her room they left. Larry was there waiting on them. The other friends would meet Elizabeth soon enough.

Haley and Brooke hugged tightly. As they made their way back to the waiting room. Rejoining their husbands.

The whole experience of witnessing the birth. Being actively apart of it. Had shaken something lose in Brooke.

Her gaze landed on Lucas. And she felt the twins kicking from within. So strong. Making their presence clear.

"I'm going home." Brooke announced.

Lucas followed after her. He waited until they got into the car.

To turn towards her. He reached for her hand and she pulled away.

"Why are you acting like i'm wrong.?"

"I'm not the only guy you ever slept with. How am i supposed to just take you're word that these babies are mine.?"

"There are tabloid posts and entertainment news reporters. Throwing up clips of you and Julian. A timeline."

"Showcasing pictures of you during the pregnancy. I just don't know what you expect from me at this point."

"I never wanted a life in the spotlight. I only ever put up with it for you. Why can't you meet me halfway and get the DNA test done.?"

"Then we can forget all about this." Lucas questioned.

"You want me soothe and comfort you're bruised and fragile ego."

"At a time when i'm trying to remain calm positive and hopeful."

"What about me Lucas! What i want. What i need."

"This family you begged and wanted so desperately."

"Why is it so easy for you to pull away when things don't go exactly how you want them too.? I have no control over the outside world what people think."

"You don't want to offer me love support and understanding."

"You can relax. You're off the hook. I don't want you there on that day. In that room." Brooke announced.

Weeks later

At 37 weeks. I was officially 9 months pregnant and could deliver anytime. Considering i was carrying twins. The babies were the size of a canary melon.

I wasn't really sleeping much these days. Nervousness. Excitement.

When i did need to rest. I found myself in the nursery. In the rocking chair.

I was feeling all the symptoms expected at this final stage.

It was morning. 6 or 7am. The sun was rising.

I felt a large gush of water. And that was my wake up call.

I was in labor.
