She could've waited until the vegetables had ripened and bundled them up to better her chance of survival, but Kagome's thoughts were not on herself. She could endure being tied up and forced into seclusion. He could not.
Excitement grew as the sun set. She'd wanted to go to him right away, knowing the only thing separating him from his freedom was a simple turn of a key. But she didn't know how far their power went. Or how many traps they'd set in preparation for such an escape.
She had to wait.
Wait until they were drowning themselves in food and drink.
She buried the key in her garden to be safe so they wouldn't find it on her if they came looking for it. Her anticipation was palpable, to the point where she caught the beast's gaze from the courtyard. She couldn't help but check on him, and each time she rose on tiptoe, his head raised in answer, cocked to the side as if to discern her strange mood swings.
The cage tethered his power, but what of his regular senses? Could he smell his tormentors coming? Was she visible even in the shadows when she stole away for their secret visits? She couldn't be sure if his silence was due to the company or being worn out from being on edge all day.
Keeping him in that form begged the question as to their end game. The thought of him being dismantled for his various parts had her heart thudding against her chest. Considering how often they poked and prodded, she could only imagine how much pleasure they'd take from slowly taking him apart piece by piece.
There was no time to waste.
She had to free him tonight.
