The second Chapter of A Viking Family. This and the following chapters will be longer than the first one.
Have fun.
It was a relaxing morning for Stoick but of course this wouldn't last forever.
The doors of the Great Hall crashed open and Dag the weapon tester ran to the front. "What is it Dag?" Stoick asked but he already knew that something was up. "The Docks are under attack by Dragons but they are not normal they behave oddly." Dag answered instantly. "We will see what's going on aye. All Vikings to the Docks!" Stoick commanded to everybody before rushing to the Docks with his Hammer.
On his way he called Skullcrusher who was by his side in an instant.
As soon as he arrived at the Docks he saw what was going on.
Half of their ships were on fire and there were traders running and screaming for help. "What happened 'ere?" He said to himself but as soon as he ran down the pathway a bit he saw five Dragons, two Zipplebacks, two Nadders and a Monstrous Nightmare, attacking everything they saw and in the middle of it Hiccup and Fishlegs trying to calm them and Snotlout fleeing with his helmet on fire.
"We have to put an end to this." He said to Skullcrusher and saddled on right away. As soon as he was airborne, he flew to the attacking Dragons and attacked them. "Let's see how ya beasts like this. Skullcrusher fireball!" Skullcrusher shot and hit the Monstrous Nightmare right at the head which made it go unconscious and drop in the ocean.
"Dad no! We want to calm them and see what's wrong!" Hiccup shouted to Stoick. "We can't let them destroy the village besides yer calming plan doesn't seem to work son so shoot them down!" Stoick commanded and even though Hiccup clearly hated it he followed his orders since the last time he refused to shoot a dragon Stoick got seriously injured.
After a little while they had all the Dragons down expect the Nightmare which fled after waking up again.
"Did we do it?" Snotlout asked after he dismounted Hookfang. "Yes, for now. Fishlegs I want a report immediately!" Stoick commanded as soon as he landed. "One of the D-dragons died of a head trauma but the r-rest are being checked and then t-transported away." Fishlegs said still trembling and full of panic.
"Why didn't we just capture them why did we have to attack them?!" Hiccup asked with fury in his voice. "We didn't have enough time if we waited longer they would have killed all the traders. I'm sorry son but the village com-" "Comes first I know dad but I still think there would have been a different solution to this." Hiccup interrupted Stoick but this time with a more understanding tone. "Maybe son but sometimes ya have to act in the moment."
Stoick could see that Hiccup wanted to discuss this more but they got interrupted by Astrid who came from the direction of the Forest mounted on Stormfly and ready to fight. "I heard that the Docks are under attack! Where are they?" She asked with her Battle axe in her hands and a tone Stoick recognized as her warrior tone. "The Dragons are down one has fled, one has unfortunately died and the others are in captivity." Spitelout answered who came up behind Stoick. "Chief we need you at the Great Hall this incident has caused a lot of trouble and discussions and we still have to find out why they attacked." Spitelout said before helping the Fire watchers with extinguishing the ships. "He's right, Fishlegs I want ya with me at the Great Hall now so ya can explain what happened and Hiccup ya cool off a little and then join us as soon as possible." Stoick commanded before heading to the Great Hall with Fishlegs behind him.
Astrid watched as Hiccup looked after the Chief for a few seconds with an expression on his face she couldn't quite recognize but she knew that something was wrong with him. "Hiccup? Hello?" Hiccup jumped a little at her call. "Oh Astrid hi Astrid ehm how long were you there?" He asked with his familiar sheepish smile. "You still want to do our flight?" Astrid asked ignoring his question with a slight shake of her head. "Of course, after you." Hiccup answered with a relieved sight.
Once Astrid and Stormfly took off Hiccup and Toothless followed right away.
They started their patrol flight in silence expect a little small talk here and there until they reached where Astrid wanted to go after she saw Hiccups expression earlier so she dove down right towards the Cove where she met Toothless and saw the real Hiccup, future chief of Berk and her love.
When Astrid landed on the far side of the Cove next to a big rock, she dismounted Stormfly and looked at Hiccup who landed but didn't dismount Toothless yet. "What are you doing I thought we would do a patrol flight?" Hiccup asked still completely strapped on Toothless. "Guess our plan has changed, now come on get down here." Astrid commanded playful and so Hiccup did.
Once Hiccup realized they are going to stay a little he unstrapped Toothless' saddle and so did Astrid with Stormflys saddle so the Dragons could go playing.
"So why are we here?" Hiccup asked looking at Astrid with those forest green eyes she could always drown in but right now she had to stay focused so she could find out what was wrong with him even though she already had a guess.
She just grabbed him by his arm and walked him to the big rock a few steps away from the water where she sat them down and then watched the Dragons play in the distance.
"Hiccup what's wrong?" Astrid asked after watching the Dragons for a while. "I saw that look in your eyes and I knew something was up so tell me Hiccup."
They had just sat beside each other but after that Hiccup put his arm around her so she could lean into his side and so she did after looking into his face for a second, he had a smile forming on the edges of his mouth which made her smile too.
"It's just this morning with the attacking Dragons it just all went to quick and I don't even know why they attacked and we killed one of them but I know we had to or innocent people would have died and I don't want that to happen again because I couldn't kill a dragon and one fled to who-knows-where and what if it happens again and-"
"Hiccup calm down you're rambling without an end." Astrid said putting her hand on the chest of a stressed Hiccup. "I know that you don't have the heart to kill a dragon and we don't expect that from you, you just have to accept that some others do but only for protection like your dad did earlier to protect the traders." She said in a calming voice while looking at Hiccup with a knowing expression and she really did know how he felt because this is not the first time this happened.
"Astrid, you remember the Singetails and how this happened because I couldn't attack the Dragons so tell me how can I ever be like you or my father?" Hiccup asked which surprised Astrid. "Hiccup you can't because that's not you." Astrid answered with honesty but she knew Hiccup wasn't done. "But how can I be a warrior or even Viking if I can't kill anything?" Hiccup asked with sadness in his voice and then Astrid leaned forward so she could look at his face completely, he lost his little smile from before and just looked at her with a straight face but she could see through his facade and she knew that there was actual pain behind it. `He still thinks he's the village screw-up´ she thought to herself.
Now Astrid knew she had to do something, to talk him out of those thoughts and maybe even more than talking.
"Ehm Astrid what are you do-" Astrid shushed him while turning around completely, she then laid herself on top of him with her right leg tangled with his left leg, her arms around his back, her chest pressed against his and her head placed in the crook of his neck so she could talk directly into his ear.
"Hiccup I have seen you nearly sacrifice yourself plenty of times and even fight a battle equal to the fight between Thor and Jörmungandr all for the people you love so you are more warrior than a lot of others and most importantly you are a real Viking." Astrid said clearly with no room for argument. "My Viking." She then added and kissed his ear afterwards.
"Astrid I- thank you, thank you for always been there for me." Hiccup put his arms around her too and buried his face in her hair.
"I love you." He said after a few seconds.
"No problem, I love you too." Astrid said with all the honesty she had left.
They both just laid there cuddling for a few minutes and enjoying the moment.
"Astrid I'm sorry to ruin the moment and as much as I would love to stay here with you, I think it's time to head back before they start searching for us." Hiccup said eventually.
Astrid just sighed but nodded and got up with him.
After calling the Dragons, who were dozing after they were done playing, they got up in the air and finished their patrol flight this time laughing and in a much happier mood.
