Hi everyone! I once published these stories under a different account, but I've since taken that account down and begun this new one. I hope you enjoy these one-shots from the students of Hogwarts!
Prompt: James Sirius Potter is very excited to meet his new little sister. Albus, however, takes a bit longer to warm up to her.
Four-year-old James Sirius Potter had never been so excited in his short life. His little brother Albus, however, was less than thrilled.
"Come here, boys. Take a look at your new sister," Ginny said, beckoning for her sons to step closer. James ran the extra few steps to his mother's bedside, but Albus stayed put. He was not going near that red, wriggling little blanket bundle. Harry noticed this, but he let him be, for now. He remembered just a short while ago how James had reacted similarly to Albus' birth.
"What's her name, Mummy?" James asked. He peered into the small mound of blankets to see his sister's face, her nose scrunched up.
"She'll be called Lily Luna, sweetheart," Ginny said. "Just like-"
"That's Grandma's name!" Albus interrupted. "And Auntie Luna's! She stealed them!" He crossed his little arms over his chest and pouted. Harry and Ginny shared a look, and Harry crossed the room to his younger son.
"Why don't you and I go for a walk in the hallway, yeah?" he said, putting a gentle hand on Albus' back to steer him towards the door. He winked at Ginny as they left, and she gave him a small smile as she turned to their older son.
Harry closed the door to the hospital room behind him, and picked up his two-year-old. "Now Albus," he began, "can you tell me what's wrong?"
"Nothin's wrong," Albus said, still pouting. Harry had to bite back a grin.
"Okay, then nothing's wrong. Why don't we go back in there and say hi to your baby sister?" he said. The reaction was immediate.
"No! I don't wanna!" Albus yelled. He shook his head vehemently. "I don't want the baby to come home with us!" His lower lip was stuck out in protest, and Harry gave a small sigh.
"Albus," he began, "Do you love your brother?"
His two-year-old managed to look incredulous. "Of course, Daddy. James is da best big brother in the world," he declared.
"And do you think your brother loves you?" Harry asked.
"Yes," Albus said, nodding his head. Harry smiled.
"Well what if I told you that he didn't like you very much when you came around at first?" he asked, picking up his son. Albus gasped a little. "That's right. When you were born, you looked just like little Lily Luna does right now. You were all red, and you cried a lot. James really didn't like that part."
"But I was little! I didn't mean to!" Albus protested.
"Exactly. James learned that just like you are, right now. Lily can't help it if she cries, right?" Harry gave his son a moment to think about it. Finally, Albus uncrossed his arms and shrugged.
"I guess not. She's too little," he answered. After another moment, he leaned in to whisper in Harry's ear. "Daddy, I think I want to meet Lily now. But you gotta promise not to tell her I like her!"
Harry chuckled. "Of course not. A big brother loving his little sister? What a ridiculous thought."
