Chapter 3: Funerals
Mrs. and Mr. Malfoy were about to tell the children to go back to their activity. The fireplace roared, and the little family and their future adopted daughter were there. "Sorry for not announcing ourselves, but we are here to talk, Miss Hermione Granger and the Malfoy," said the Aurors.
"Sorry for doing this after the tragedy, but we have the stuff in the Granger residence for Miss Hermione Granger, and we also have the date for the funeral." Hermione was not feeling too good. The Malfoy had been so good to her since she arrived in France and also made her feel less sad, but these 2 made her want to cry again. She was trying not to think, but she also wanted to show that she was strong.
But times like this make her think that she is now an orphan and has no family. She hugged the bear, but the tears in her eyes were also starting to go down her face. "Mom and Dad." She started to cry on her bear again. Narcissa came to her and hugged her, knowing it was still a lot in her head.
"The Ministry of Magic has planned the funeral, and also, Miss Granger, everything that your parents own is now put in storage. We came with your bedroom stuff and some sentimental stuff that was in your parent's will." Auror Miller said, and then the elf took the tiny boxes that were for him to carry. "The funeral will be at Godric Hallow, where the family of your father was laid to rest. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. Also, the Muggles and doctor that were working with your parents will be in attendance."
Hermione was to look but nod at the two policemen, and they left the fireplace. When another person came inside of it after them, she was dressed funny but also had a badge saying Healer Desroiser. "Mrs. and Mr. Malfoy, I'm here to see Miss Hermione Granger. St. Mangos, send me an appointment for a Young Witch Mind Healer." She looked at the girl with tears and was trying to hide the fact that yesterday she lost her parents. "Hermione," Narcissa says, "This was the appointment you had this afternoon. I know Mrs. Amelia Desroiser will be able to make you feel better. I would like me to stay with you for the meeting." Hermione was still holding on to the robes of Narcissa Nod, and then Lucius and Draco left them alone with the healer.
Narcissa decided to walk them to the parlour so they could have more private conversations with the mind healer, so Hermione found the lover seat and waited for Narcissa to come and join her. A set of tea and probably a calming draft on the tea for Hermione were served. "So, Miss Granger "How are you doing today?"
The healer said, and then she took a sip of her tea, "Trying to cope with the idea that I'm now an orphan and that my parents are no longer with me." She said she sounded more like an adult than a child at that moment. "Yes, it a lot, but has the Malfoy been helping to keep your mind busy?" She asked, then Hermione hugged her bear. "Yes, and I love the library, and also that their son Draco has been trying to keep me busy with books. It helps not to think about the death of my parents, and I also learn something that is not like my parents, that I have 'MAGIC' according to the book that Albus gave me, which kind of helps distract me from learning new stuff, and also this bear." She showed the bear, which was slowly becoming her best thing to hug.
"Well, that is good, so the hospital wants me to come see you once a day for the next 2 weeks. That would be fine with us so we could talk and also see what the best plan is for you in the future. I know the Healer/ Doctor in France will give you some medication that will help with the nightmare and sleep, but we would also get you some help by talking. " Healer Desroiser, look at family and also a Hermione.
"Yes, it will help a lot. Thank you for coming and helping me talk."
During the hour-long session, Hermione did cry a lot, but Narcissa helped her. She felt better because she had someone who could cry and also felt comfort. According to the healer, that was on the will of her great-grandfather in the case of a child born of squibs, and they were magical, and accidents happened like hers. She has a magical family. She knew it would take a bit before she felt that this was her family, but having someone like them was really helping. After the hour, Narcissa brought her back to the library, and she spent 3 hours reading books about magic. trying not to think about it like the doctor told them.
The dinner was a bit strange, but she ate, and then the elf, now Hers and Draco, was going to bring them to their room, where she found the book, and Narcissa said that in the next couple of days they would arrange her bedroom with the stuff that Aurors, a new word she learned, brought so she could have a comfortable time here. She went into her room and noticed her clothes that were at home were in the closet, and some toiletries were in the bathroom. So she asked the elf if she could draw her bath and place night clothes in the bathroom. While she waited, she started to notice some of the books that she had at home. She also removed the necklace that she was wearing most of the day and found some stuff that was at home. She took the book from the bedside table and started to read again.
Hogwarts History was a really good book, and the fact that next year she will be going to school will also be so good. Now that she knows about the house, she wants to know which one she should pick or which one she thinks she will be in.
The elf said, "Miss Hermione, your bath is ready." She put a placeholder in the book and then placed the book on the bedside table. The bath smelled so good; it smelled like strawberry and peach. The bubbles were so big and thick. She underdressed quickly and got in the bath. She took time to get a good soak, trying to imagine the books that she had read all afternoon. Also, talk with Draco about the school. She feels a bit comfortable with the family, but it is not like... She stopped thinking for a moment, washed, and then got dressed. She found a toothbrush and a hairbrush. "Millie could brush my hair and braid it for me. I don't want to have my hair in my face tonight and for the funerals tomorrow." The elf made her sit, did a braid, and also brought the book for her, so she could not think of what would happen tomorrow morning. "Yes, I will also miss you. Don't worry, I want Miss Hermione to not cry, so if you need anything, let Millie know." Hermione took the liquid that was in a vial with the sleeping tea. She was told by the healer to continue to take the potions and look at the elf. "I will let you know, Millie. May I ask if you could stay till I fall asleep?" She got comfortable, and the elf just went and sat in her chair.
Hermione woke up at 7 a.m.; this was the day that she didn't want to go, but it was the funeral of her parents today. Millie came to place a black dress and everything black, as well as a church hat, for the funeral. "Good morning, Miss Hermione. I got everything ready for the ceremony today. Also, Mrs. Narcissa told me, If you feel like you want to be alone for breakfast, you could do that." She nodded and went to the restroom. She asked Millie to arrange her hair for the hat that she would be wearing and told the elf that she would be changing.
The dress was made for her; it was a timeless dress with thighs, knowing for fact that she would be wearing it most of the day. She quickly dressed and then came out of the bathroom, and she looked at Millie and said, "I think I will be going downstairs if the shoes are at the door by chance." The elf showed her some cute Mary Janes with black and white trim and bow shoes at the door. "Yes, are you ready to go see the family downstairs?" Mille asked, and she took the hat and then closed the door, following Millie to the dining table, where the Malfoy was slowly eating breakfast. "Morning," she said, taking her place beside Draco, looking at the family and nodding. They have been trying to get her to be comfortable.
"Hermione" A male voice came behind her: "The car will be here in 45 minutes for us to leave, so make sure you have a bit of time to get all the stuff that you need before the time." Lucius said, and Hermione started to get the stuff on her plate. The menu was French and English. She took eggs and bacon, some pastries, a Pain au Chocolat, a glass of pumpkin juice, and also a Parfait a la Fréquence.
Mille gave her a napkin to protect that dress. After praying to whatever God was there to not cry, she started eating her food. She wanted that time without any thought that it would be hard on her. She thought, What if they have her talk? She wanted her bear, and then she looked to her right and saw it. Millie probably brought it with her just in case she looked at it, then she finished her food. "Narcissa, could you help me with the hat? Also, I was thinking of bringing stuff for me to help with this day. There is a way to have a bag for my stuff." She asks Narcissa to give her a tiny bag. "This is a bag that could carry a lot of stuff. Don't worry, it won't be noticed by the No Wizard, but you could put your bear, books, or whatever you want." She said and then gave her a beautiful bag, and she nodded and took Millie's hand. "I need to grab some stuff in my room."
They walk toward her door and take a couple of things that she will need, like a couple tissues that she could have when she cries. She also has books and a necklace with photos of her parents on it.
She wore the necklace and then put everything in the bag. "Magic is so great when it comes to this," she said, then closed the door to go to the main entrance so they could take the car to the town where her parents would be put to rest.
Her father and mother were both Anglicans; they have requested in their will to have not only a simple mess and burial but also a celebration of life. So the mess was pretty emotional; they only asked her to read a couple of verses of the Bible for them. The worst part was the time to put them to rest. She really started to cry, and then she saw that this would be the last time she would see her parents. The bear that she had was really helpful. The worst part was people coming and saying that they were sorry for your loss.
Draco was trying to be nice to her; he was trying to make her less emotional by being there for her. The time for the snack and the little meeting after people came to talk and try to make sure she was fine That day was not something she wanted to think about so much. When everything was done, she said her last good-bye. She knew that she was now officially an orphan.
