On impulse, Amy pulled out her hammer. The boys took immediate notice of the impact of Sandy's crystal against Amy's weapon. They moved towards her. For a brief moment, she looked over at them and said, "Don't worry, I've got this."
Her friends paused, looking at her. Sonic gave her a thumbs up and said, "Okay, Ames. Give it all you got."
Shadow glanced at her and said, "Just know that if you fail, I won't hold back anything."
Before Amy's twin could react, she yelled and pushed the crystal back. It threw the queen off balance. At that moment, Amy charged for her opponent and swung her mallet once more. Upon impact, Sandy was hurled into some torn canvas and tapestry.
In that moment, Amy's opponent regained her footing and narrowed her glowing eyes at her sister. With a loud cry, she propelled herself off a wooden beam. She held out a new crystal which grew from her hand and gripped it like a sword.
It glinted in the sun's rays shining through a couple crumbling windows. Queen Sandy slashed it through the air as she twirled in the air in high speed.
Amy held out her mallet and tightened her grip. Despite how much she embraced herself for impact, Sandy's strike almost threw her off balance.
Sweat dripped from the pink girl's forehead. Tips of her fangs poked as she clenched her teeth. As her twin pressed her jagged, crystal sword, the pressure pushed her back. While being moved back, she remained locked in her postion and continued to block the uneven, crystal weapon.
Sandy whispered in a low voice, "You really care for your friends don't you? When I'm through with you, they will be the first to suffer."
Her comment made Amy's green eyes widen and stare. Her knees shook as the sweat on her fingers weakened her death grip.
She repositioned her foot. Something felt loose underneath, and she had lost her new footing. The Queen's sword along with the weight of her mallet pushed her onto the gravel. Seconds after she fell backwards, the Queen's crystal's tip pointed at her. She could almost feel its sharp, jagged edge at her neck.
Her emerald green eyes stared down at it while she clenched her teeth. Sweat continued to bead down her forehead.
Shadow took a step forward, glaring at Amy's sister. Tails paled. Sonic positioned his feet and closed fists.
Amy thought she has me cornered. If I die, she'll go after my friends next! What should I do? Maybe I can reason with her. Merlin claims that dark magic has changed her and made her more evil. Is it possible to stop the dark magic? I wonder if there's some way to reach her. If not, I don't know how else to stop her...
After looking at the crystal for another moment, Amy grabbed its end and lowered it from her neck. Next she looked at Sandy in the end and said, "You're really good. You must have worked hard at your magic."
Everyone stared and Merlin raised an eyebrow. Sandy's eyebrows furrowed and she backed a little in response to the odd comment.
She replied, "Naturally. Being abandoned and having to defend myself from everyone who wanted me dead, it was the obvious course of action to learn magic."
"I may not remember anything, but Sandy...I'm sorry."
Sandy stared more at her sister. She was apologizing?
She looked down at her weapon and shook her head. The Queen pointed it at her older twin sister again.
"I will not be fooled. 'Sorry'? You're sorry? You expect me to believe that your sorry for leaving me and not even trying to find your way back. I was the one who had brought you here with my magic! And I'm well aware that you claim to have lost your memory. You expect me to believe that?"
Amy didn't flinch once while still on the ground where she fell. The sympathetic way she looked at Sandy made the Queen uneasy.
Amy said, "Merlin told me what happened. You must have felt so alone all these years."
When she touched the crystal a white light that she unwittingly made was absorbed by it. It took both of them by surprise and the magical weapon glowed.
Everyone covered their eyes. It had burst into light particles that filled the room. The bits of white fluttered about the room like snow flakes mixed with feathers and fire flies.
Shadow glanced around and said, "Is this...magic?"
Merlin nodded, "It appears to be so."
Sonic's form returned to normal. Tails laughed and said, "Hey, Sonic, that dark magic left you. How do you feel?"
The blue Hedgehog laughed and answered, "As handy as that form was to fight with, it feels great. It's like having a heavy weight removed."
Amy was surprisingly unscathed. She looked up and saw her sister, who was unconscious.
Amy approached her and said, "Sandy?"
As she approached her sister, a flashback entered her mind. She recalled playing dolls with her sister and hugging her sister when they had lost their parents from a fire.
She recalled how hurt Sandy appeared when the former head wizard's daughters had beaten her up and ruined her favorite dress.
At that memory, Amy moved faster and knelt beside her twin.
"Sandy," she said. Sandy groaned and opened her eyes. No longer glowing yellow, they returned to the same eye colour as Amy's.
"Amy, is that you? What happened? Where am I?"
Merlin paused and thought Did she somehow free her sister from the dark magic within her?
Amy said, "We were fighting over something that happened when we were kids."
"We were?"
At that, the pink girl tilted her head. "You don't...remember?"
The yellow Hedgehog shook her head. "The last thing I remember was working hard to learn magic and bring you back. I was really angry. I wanted to get back at that so-called king for what he did, and that was the last thing I remember."
Amy blinked and grabbed her sister's hand to help her up, saying, "Is that what happened?" She looked at her sister and said, "You lost control is what happened. But don't worry. It's not your fault."
"Did I...hurt someone?"
For a moment, Amy hesitated. She took a deep breath and said, "I won't lie. You have. But what matters is what you decide to do now."
Shadow approached them and said, "There is one thing you can do for starters." The twins turned to the dark Hedgehog who added, "You can bring us and Amy home."
Sandy looked at Amy and said, "Do you really have to go?"
Her twin nodded and answered, "I may be from this world, but that new world is my home, Sandy. But I'll tell you what. Seeing how I now remember you, I'll come visit. And you can also come see me."
Sandy just hugged her and said, "Thank you. But how do I take you back?"
Merlin chuckled and said, "My dear child, you won't know. Something tells me you won't remember what spell you did to transport your sister here. However, I have a far better solution."
With that, he pulled out a crystal ball and sprinkled some magic over it. It glowed for a moment. He made two of them and handed one to each girl.
They looked at the balls confused until he explained, "Whenever you wish to visit the other, use your magic on these balls and focus. They will create portals to whichever world you wish to see."
Both girls hugged the old magician.
Amy said, "I may not remember either of you, but I won't forget either of you. And Sandy, this time I intend on keeping my promise to always be there for you when you need me. It's a little funny, but after losing my memory for these years, I'm starting to remember little bits."
It made her sister smile.
Amy looked down at her orb and looked at it. She closed her eyes and thought of her home. At that, a portal opened. Station Square could be seen on the other end.
Sonic peeked and commented, "Heh, looks like Eggman decided that he can't stay quiet." He looked at Tails and asked, "Ready to go, Bud?"
The little Fox laughed and answered, "You bet!"
Both ran and jumped into the portal. Shadow glanced back at Amy and held out his hand to her. He said, "Coming?"
Amy's cheeks had a pinkish tinge as her hand touched his large, warm gloved hand. He held her tight and she turned to waved. Once everyone returned home through the portal, it closed.
Sandy had a happy but sad look. Merlin's hand touched her shoulder. She looked at him and said, "I hope Amy is happy in her new home."
The magician nodded and said, "Ah yes, indeed, she is. Indeed, she is."
Back at Station Square, the four friends worked at fighting off Eggman's robots.
Sonic said as he leapt off a robot, "Home sweet home!"
Amy smiled and swung her hammer at a robot.
She thought I couldn't agree more.
The two sisters visited each other frequently. Sandy eventually repaired her kingdom. The people became less afraid and came to love and forgive her. And as for Amy, the magic she continued to learn became a handy tool for dealing with Eggman and any other enemy that dared to cross her and her friends.
Everyone lived happily ever after.
THE END
