For A Candy Cane A Day on the Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry Forum.
Clyde is out of control. As per usual, Buck is blinded by his love for his brother. It doesn't matter what Blanche says. It doesn't matter how loudly she pleads. When she cries that Clyde is leading them to an early grave, Buck simply shrugs her off and tells her off for being dramatic. There's no convincing him. And Blanche has tried every possible method to convince him.
And so, Blanche turns to Bonnie. As the two women in the group, Blanche is sure that they must have some kind of natural bond. She assumes that Bonnie wants the same things that she does. To live a long life with her husband. To have children. To live freely and to be happy. Blanche very quickly learns that this is not the case.
"Children?" Bonnie frowns. She smooths her dress with her hands, curving in at her waist. "Don't you think that would ruin my figure? I need to look my best." She says it matter-of-factly. "You know, for when I'm in the pictures."
"Well…" Blanche tries to keep her voice level as she realises that she's confided in the wrong person. All of a sudden, it feels like she's the only sane person left in the world. "It's hard to be in the pictures if you're in jail."
Bonnie rolls her eyes and, ignoring Blanche, goes to stand in front of her vanity. When Blanche goes to speak again, she raises her hand to silence her. She reaches up to her face, pushing a loose stray of hair behind her ear.
"Blanche, sweetheart," Bonnie drawls her name in a way that makes Blanche want to vomit. "It seems to me that you don't understand what we're doing here. We're becoming rich. We're becoming famous. If you don't like it… if you'd rather go back home and have babies with Buck… then you can go. We won't miss you."
Bonnie leans closer to her reflection and in a few quick motions, paints her lips carmine red. Blanche watches, light-headed, and thinks that it looks an awful lot like blood.
