BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Y/N groaned. He reached over to the bedside table and shut off the alarm, before turning over in bed. His eyes refused to open and he had that horrible morning taste in his mouth.
It was the first day of school.
*
Clothed and backpack slung over the shoulder, he walked downstairs and into the dining room, to find his family already having breakfast. He dropped the backpack into a corner, before mouthing a silent good morning to everyone and sitting down.
"Someone sure isn't in a good mood this morning." His mother, Katjaa, said with a gentle smile.
Y/N reached over to his mother's side of the table and grabbed a slice of toast, before covering it with jam and stuffing it into his mouth: "I just can't believe it's September already." He replied, after swallowing the toast. "Mr. Fennoy is ready to get on my case again."
That old miserable asshole had nothing better to do other than to torment students. Y/N barely passed his class last year.
"Mr. Fennoy quit." Violet, Y/N's sister suddenly threw in. "There's a new history teacher."
Somebody was honking outside. Everybody was talking now, it was all a little chaos. But Y/N just blended it all out. Mr. Fennoy was gone for good. This would be a good school year. A great school year.
*
First day of school had quite a few reunions on schedule. And so did Y/N. He was a junior now. Halfway still to go, but he was on his way. And so, as he dabbed up his friends and classmates, most of which he hadn't seen for most of the summer, a car stopping in front of the school caught his attention. A middle aged afro-american man walked out of the car. Moments after, a girl, probably around Y/N's age climbed out of the passenger seat and followed the man into the school.
"Yo, that's the new history teacher."
Mr. Fennoy's replacement. And his daughter. In Y/N's mind, daughter of a teacher equals a teacher's pet. Great.
Well, as long as she wasn't in his class, it should be okay. He watched them make their way through the crowded entrance, the students going out of their way to make room for the two.
"L/N!"
The familiar voice made Y/N turn around with a smile. He was approached by his good friend, Nick, who dabbed him up.
"It's good to see you, asshole." Y/N said, earning himself a light jab in the side from the soccer player. They were soon joined by Aasim, Nate and Russell. Luke Porter eventually arrived as well, completing the friend group.
After a few minutes of catching up and chitchatting, the bell for class rang. Hundreds of students soon made their way to their designated homerooms. Along the way, Y/N managed to catch a glimpse of a few other familiar faces, but he would eventually enter his classroom as well and before he even noticing, he'd be stuck in the routine of school all over again.
*
The chatter inside the classroom remained quite loud, as everyone was catching up on the events happened during the summer. Nick and Y/N watched everything unfold from the back, while leading a subtle discussion on the changes that happened.
Some students changed schools and weren't there anymore, others had completely new looks, both positively and somewhat negatively. And as the discussion went on, Y/N couldn't help but to notice that a certain seat in the front was still empty. He stared at the seat as Nick babbled about something he saw on the news and deep down in his gut, he knew whom that seat had belonged to.
"Good morning, class!" The door nearly sprang open, as Mr. Fennoy's replacement walked in and placed some papers on the teacher's desk. He offered a light, but friendly smile to the class and that's when Y/N finally got a good look at him.
For a history teacher, he was built quite well. Six-two, broad shoulders, relatively muscular build. He had soft chocolate colored eyes and a small beard that hid a friendly smile. The newcomer gave the class a few seconds to calm down, before taking a white chalk and writing his name down onto the board.
"Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Lee Everett. I used to teach for six years on the University of Georgia and I'm your new history teacher. In case some of you didn't get the information, Mr. Fennoy resigned due to health problems."
The door opened again. The girl that accompanied Mr. Everett before class walked into the room, backpack slung over shoulder. She shot the new history teacher an apologetic smile before taking a glimpse of the class.
Lee sighed: "Right. Class, you have a new student. This is Clementine Everett, she is my daughter. I want you to give her a warm welcome for the next few days."
"For the teacher's daughter, she's kinda cute." Nick whispered, nudging Y/N with his elbow.
And to be fair, he wasn't wrong. The new girl was about five-four, with tanned skin, and super wavy, almost curly, raven colored hair, tied into two low pigtails. Her eyes were big and amber-colored. She wasn't extra specially beautiful, but she definitely was.. kind of cute.
Y/N shrugged: "Let's put a pin on that."
"Mr. L/N, is it?" Mr. Everett suddenly asked, gesturing towards Y/N's desk. For a moment, he froze, erratically in fear that the buff looking history teacher heard the two making comments about his daughter and was about to snap them in half.
"Would you please show Clementine around the school? Since you're not paying attention anyway, of course."
Without protesting, Y/N simply nodded and got out of his chair. After remembering how to breathe again, he led her out of the classroom and around the school halls. Not that he really wanted to show her around, but there was no way he'd say no to Mr. Everett.
"Do you know where your locker is?"
The new girl shook her head: "I was told my guide would show me everything I needed to know." She handed him a small paper scrap and Y/N quickly took a look at it.
"237? Make sure someone doesn't slam a hatchet in your locker." Y/N remarked and Clementine gave him a weird look, not getting his "The Shining" reference. He looked away in slight embarrassment: "Just follow me."
Clementine rolled her eyes: "No shit, what else am I supposed to do?"
Y/N didn't respond, but internally noted that she definitely didn't sound like a nerd or a teacher's pet. At least so far. He led her through a few different hallways until they reached her locker. As luck would have it, his was just a few meters away, on the opposite side of the hall. "Here's your locker. You can put your.. I don't know, books and.. makeup inside."
This time, it was Clementine who didn't reply, simply staring daggers through him.
"..What?"
She crossed her arms: "You think I'm a teacher's pet, don't you? That I'll run to Mr. Everett as soon as you say something I don't like. That I'm the type of person to remind the teacher we had homework. Don't you?"
Y/N subtly grimaced, not having expected such a response from her at all: "No.. of course not. I'm just being friendly. You know.. showing you around the school."
Clementine sighed: "Look, I get this like.. every time. I'm a girl like all the others. So please do me the favor of not being an asshole and.. just treat me like a normal student."
Y/N nodded: "Okay.. sorry."
"It's okay." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a larger, folded piece of paper: "Can you show me where my classes are?" The raven haired girl hands him the paper, revealing it to be her schedule.
"Sure thing." Y/N had a quick look at the schedule and finally properly fulfilled his role as a tour guide. He proceeded to lead her around the school, showing her the classrooms where most of her classes took place, or well, their classes. That was until she stopped in front of a pinboard.
"Do you know her?" She asked, gesturing to the missing poster on the pinboard.
The girl in question was Bonnie Yvette. Posters regarding her were all over the neighborhood. Redhead, skinny, kinda looks like an addict. Went missing two weeks ago. While Y/N didn't know her personally, he did see something about another student going missing after a shootout in Seattle on the internet recently. Perhaps the cases were interlinked somehow?
Y/N shook his head: "Not really. Might have seen her once or twice smoking with some other kids behind the school. But I didn't know her. Why?"
The raven haired girl shrugged as she stared at the pinboard: "Just wondering. Things like that happen often here? Kids just.. disappear?"
"Not really.. no."
"What about that?" Clementine gestured at another poster, changing the topic rather abruptly. "You guys got a talent show?"
Y/N nodded: "It's more of a welcoming celebration. They just throw in a talent show and a dance to make it less boring."
"You make it sound like it's horrible."
"It is pretty cheesy."
She rolled her eyes: "You are a party pooper..."
"Y/N. Y/N L/N."
He held out his hand for a handshake, something she took him up on: "You weren't held back by any chance, Y/N?"
"No..? Were you?"
She shook her head with a light smile: "No. But if you don't hurry up and show me where the rest of my classes are, I just might be." She continued walking down the hall and Y/N simply stood there for a moment, slightly dumbfounded. There was no doubt in his mind that Clementine was a lot, but certainly no teacher's pet."
*
Later that day, Y/N and Nick found themselves in the cafeteria. After they picked up today's meal, which consisted out of chicken, a side salat and some tea, they made their way to the big table in the middle of the cafeteria.
"So, what you're essentially telling me is, our new teacher's pet is the exact opposite of a teacher's pet." Nick repeated, as the two sat down.
Y/N stuffed some chicken into his mouth: "Pretty much. Definitely isn't like the other girls at least. Not like Sarah.."
Nick's face slightly reddened, but he continued, pretending to be unfazed by his comment: "I don't know.. it sounds too good or well.. too crazy to be true."
"Too good? Her dad is built like a bulldozer. Their bonding time takes place in a shooting range of all places. And she's got a big ass dog sleeping in her backyard at all times."
"Well, at least you get to choose how you go."
Y/N scoffed: "She'll shoot my dick off before I-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, who's gonna shoot your dick off?" Their friend Nate asked, joining them at the table, sitting down next to Y/N. Their other friend and Nate's best friend, Russel, also joined them, sitting down next to Nick.
"The new girl." Nick responded before Y/N could protest and he immediately knew that it was over. In their opinion, he's now officially into the teacher's daughter. He shot Nick a piercing look, as Nate patted his shoulder: "You've got balls, I'll give you that. Even I wouldn't mess with a girl who's dad is..
"A fucking gorilla." Russel completed the sentence.
Nick suddenly elbowed Russell in the side: "Shut up, look." He pointed his finger across the room and all three boys turned their heads to look.
It was Clementine, holding a blue tray of food, between two other girls. One of them was tall, with dark hair and red-glasses, and other other was brunette with a guitar strapped on her back. Y/N recognized the first girl as Sarah, the photographer for the school newspaper and yearbook. Her dad, Carlos Diaz, was one of Georgia's most renowned surgeons. The other girl was Becca... Y/N's ex girlfriend. And also the girl who always won the school talent shows because she cried when she played her songs. To him, these didn't seem like girls that Clementine would hang out with, but what did he actually know about her?
Nate mischievously grinned: "Y/N seems particularly fond of our new student, why don't we invite them to sit and eat with us?"
Russell laughed: "Do it. Watch Becca's head explode once she hears Y/N wants to eat in her presence."
Y/N looked in their direction. Becca still harbored feelings for him, even after they broke up about three months ago. It was an open secret and while he obviously didn't like her back anymore, he also didn't want to make her uncomfortable about it. And so, as he looked, Clementine spotted him. Seeing him looking at them, she lightly waved at him and that's when Nate suddenly waved them over.
She exchanged a look at Becca, who seemed like she was about to explode and with Sarah, who was pretty unfazed about the demeanor, before leading the trio to the boys' table: "Do I know you?"
"No, but I've been told you had the pleasure of meeting our good friend here." Nate replied, gesturing towards Y/N, who offered a slightly embarrassed smile, before shooting a glare at his friend.
Clementine simply nodded, assuming talked to the boys about her in a certain way: "Right. Y/N. Yeah."
Nate smiled: "Well, seeing as you're in need of new friends, being new and all of course, I was thinking you three should come here and eat with us."
At a table nearby, Luke nudged Violet and gestures towards the nearby table. This caught the attention of their friend Louis as well and the seniors watched on as the girls eventually sit down at the boys' table.
There, Nate is talking to Sarah, who's kinda digging it, despite them not really being interesting, Russell talking to Becca about their favorite songs and bands. And while she was interested in the conversation, Becca's eyes constantly shifted towards Y/N, who quietly ate his chicken as Nick and Clementine led a discussion about the upcoming talent show and dance.
Why did Nate do this, Y/N wondered internally. He and Nick were so convinced that Y/N was into Clementine already and it was a pain in the ass.
His suffering was luckily ended by the bell moments later. Nate decided to walk Sarah to class, while Russell and Becca left together for their next lesson. Nick made sure to silently slip away as well, leaving Clementine and Y/N momentarily alone.
That's when he felt someone bump into his back. He looked behind himself to see Violet and Luke passing by, shooting him a knowing smile. As he turned around, he was met by Clementine's amber colored eyes looking at him, eyebrow raised.
She tilted her head slightly: "What kind of game are you playing?"
"What do you mean?"
They got up at the same time and brought their trays back together: "I mean.. I hope you aren't pulling any pranks on Becca. She told me that you used to be together and I hope you aren't using your friend for her to get over you."
Y/N quickly shook his head: "No, of course not."
"Good. Cause I didn't think you're the type of guy to do that."
"You didn't?"
She shook her head, as she stoved away her tray: "No. But your friend.. Nate? He was acting kind of fishy."
Y/N placed his tray down on top of hers, before giving her an apologetic look: "Sorry about him. He can be an-"
"Asshole? Yeah. I've noticed." She grinned and Y/N eventually smiled back, as they walked out of the cafeteria and towards their next class.
The Range Rover Discovery was already waiting in the parking lot as Clementine made her way over to it. She hopped into the passenger seat, immediately being greeted by the friendly face of her stepfather, Lee.
"How was your first day, sweet pea?" He asked.
Clementine offered a smile, before buckling up: "It was good. How was yours?"
"Great. The students here aren't too big troublemakers. At least not from what I've seen."
The amber eyed girl mischievously grinned as she looked at him: "Have you met the calculus teacher yet? Miss Vigil? She's good looking, smart and.. single. At least.. from what I've seen."
"Ew." Clementine turned around to see the source of the comment in the backseat, that being her little stepbrother, Alvin Junior.
Lee laughed: "That's right, AJ. Now, it's unprofessional to have that kind of a relationship with colleagues, Clem. I could get fired for that."
She sighed: "I know, Lee.."
"I'm sorry about not showing you around earlier. First day is always so busy and I was late anyway. I hope that boy showed you everything."
Clementine simply nodded.
"He tried anything?" Lee asked, his tone a bit harsher after seeing his stepdaughters subtle response.
"No, no. He was really nice. Even told me about the dance and the talent show."
The history teacher nodded in approval: "Good. I think it's a bit early to get involved with boys. So, why don't you stick with girls as company, huh?"
Clementine chuckled: "What if I was a lesbian, Lee? What then?"
"Well, are you a lesbian?"
"No.. but what if I were?"
Lee shrugged: "As long as it's not horny teenage boys.."
The teenager simply shook her head in response to her stepfather's words, as they made their way back home.
*
"We're back!"
The door slammed shut as Violet and Y/N entered the house. A little boy immediately ran up to them, shooting plastic arrows at them with his toy bow: "Gotcha!"
Their little brother, Kenny Jr was always a bit.. wild.
He made some weird, primitive sounds, before picking up his arrows and running away. Perhaps, autistic would be the more fitting word for Duck. That's what they called him. It was pretty weird but hey.. he was a weird kid.
The smell of noodles was in the air and Y/N followed it to the kitchen, where his mother was preparing spaghetti carbonara: "You guys are back early."
Y/N nodded: "First day. You know how it goes."
"Anything new?"
"Y/N has his eyes on a new girl." Vi threw in, earning herself a deadly look from her brother.
"Already? Becca was such a nice girl. I thought you were perfect for each other."
Y/N threw his backpack aside and shrugged: "We obviously weren't. And Vi is talking crazy. There's a new girl, I showed her around and she sat at our table. And that's the whole story."
"You should give it a shot." Violet remarked, before he walked out of the room and upstairs into his.

It was night time as a light went on in the Everett residence. Clementine got up from her bed and turned on her laptop. Stuffing her airpods into her ears, she put on some of her favorite music, before preparing some writing utensils and paper. It would be a long night, but she was a curious person.
She had always dreamt of becoming an officer. Maybe in the K-9 unit, something like that. And a case like this would be the perfect jumpstart for her career. So, she decided to jump into Google and make some research.
Her topic?
Bonnie Yvette.
