Chapter 38 is here yall! Sorry this took so long. Honestly I could have got this out a week ago but I needed to proofread. On top of that I started a second story, a danmachi story over on Wattpad. I wanted to get a few chapters of that off the ground, it's called Hearthfire Heroes, go check it out if you're a fan of danmachi, or Is It Wrong To Try And Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon. This a chapter of internal struggle and acceptance for lzuku, he goes through the motions and has responsibilities thrusted on him that he never wanted. The world of MHA is about to change and it starts now, Villlains are making moves, ONE shows what is important, and Bakugo spirals deeper and deeper into darkness. I definitely plan to finish this story so enjoy the latest installment.
Chapter 38 How far you came
Genos was silent, eyes slightly wide upon hearing the words of ONE, "Wait, did I just hear you correctly? You just said when the next hero chart is released, you'll be the number one hero." He said, never losing eye contact with ONE.
"That's right. I just got a call from someone from the public safety commission and she told me. Apparently I have the highest approval rating out of all the heroes. I've had the greatest impact on society this term, and though they're only counting my major cases in this ranking, it was enough for me to be the new number one."
"Just your major cases huh? If you look at it like that it makes sense you'd be number one." He thought aloud for a moment before looking back at ONE, "So, how do you feel?"
"I'm a bit nervous actually." He said, rubbing the back of his head. "I admit at one point I would have been thrilled about this. But now after everything that's happened, it kinda hammers home how much people expect from me. They want me to be the leader and protector of society. I need time to fully process this."
"Understandable. With your independent status I figured you'd make the top ten, but to be number one off the bat… As impressive as it is, it only makes sense."
"I'm the number one hero." ONE thought loud as he looked into the sky.
Rising Sky Dojo
Izuku made his way along the walls of the compound making his way to the dojo. He had so many thoughts on his mind, he was going to be the number one hero in a matter of days, he also had several business deals he needed to close, and he had many ongoing investigations.
Right now he needed to speak with Keizo and get some direction, as he approached the dojo he sensed a familiar presence on the other side of the door, approaching it. He opened one of the large double doors to the compound and saw Mirko on the other side of it, she was in civilian clothes and hauling a suitcase, "Hm, moving day was today, Bad Bunny?"
"Yeah, it's about time I got back to hopping across the country and kicking ass. Granted it was nice staying her rent free, but it's time for me to move on."
"I just wish you would have told me you were leaving, I'd have taken you out to celebrate. You're way stronger than you were when you first came back here over three months ago." Izuku said, giving her a charming smile.
She smiled, meeting his gaze, "That was the plan, now it's time to move on."
"So where are you headed next?"
"I've already booked an extended stay at a hotel in Kyushu, Been a while since I spent time there."
"Kyushu, huh? Try not to ruffle any of Hawk's feathers while you're out there." He said playfully. "Good luck out there, Rumi. This was nice." He smiled at her genuinly
She gave him a seductive look, "Very nice." There was a moment of aknowlegment between the two before Rumi spoke again, "Why'd you come here anyway? It's been a while since you've come through."
I actually needed to talk to Keizo" He averted from her gaze and rubbed his head.
The rabbit woman eyed him, seeing that he had something on his mind, "What's up? You look like you have something heavy on your mind."
"I do, actually." He paused for a moment, deciding whether or not to tell her about all this. "Well, the thing is… I got a call from the public safety commission, and…I'm going to be the number one hero."
Rumi's eyes wided slightly at these words, "Are you serious?"
"Completely serious."
Rumi paused for a moment before smiling at him, "Well, congrats number one."
"Thanks, but I'm not exactly too happy about it." Izuku said unenthusiastically.
"Why not? All Might is gone, you've proven how great you are and shown you're capable of leading Hero Society."
"Capable and able are too different things, Rumi. Plus It's just a lot to take in."
"Is this about you being quirkless? Kid, you won! You've proven all your haters wrong, you've proven to yourself that everyone was wrong. I'm not seeing what the problem is."
"The same society that swore to keep me down if I went against my establised place in it now wants me to lead and protect it. That's my issue, Rumi."
The woman's expression became more serious as she processed his response, "I'm not gonna stand here and pretend like I know how it feels to be quirkless in the world we live in, because I don't. But if I were you, I'd be more proud of myself."
"It's not that I'm not proud of myself. I'm extremely proud of how far I've come and who I am today. It's just that… I was fine with just being a hero who saves and protects everyone, now everyone's eyes and expectations will be on me. Most of my life I spent every day being told I was nothing, that my dreams didn't matter. That I was a failure just for being born. Can you imagine how hard it is to have a positive view on life with those constant factors?"
"It would probably be insanely hard." She looked him in the eye "Still, you've essentially been teaching us all how to be heroes. You don't even have powers in a world of people full of them. Be the change you want to see, and once you're crowned number one you can do that." She pulled his head down and planted a kiss on his right cheek, "See you later, Kid." She then grabbed her suitcase and walked past him.
Izuku felt much warmer as he watched Rumi walk away. This was definetly an experience working with and getting to know the rabbit hero. Honestly she was his favorite hero after All Might. She was his hero crush and he never imagined he'd have the relationship he has with her, but in the past few months it's become a very special one. This was a very interesting friendship, and he didn't have any real issues with it. She was leaving the dojo and the city, but he was sure he'd see her again soon. Inwardly he admitted he wanted to see her again, she was good company, and fun to spar and talk to. "Hey, Rumi!" He called to the leaving woman.
She turned around and red eyes met green, "Yeah?"
"It's been a while since I caught up with Hawks. Let's team up next time I'm in Kyushu." He chose his words carefully.
She smiled back at him, "You still have my number." She turned to leave again before looking back at him, "Hey number one, once you're crowned you're gonna be so busy we won't have time." She gave him a seductive, knowing look, "Wanna celebrate tonight?"
Izuku met her eyes with a charming grin. "Sounds like a fun time."
She smiled as she turned and walked away, "See you later."
Izuku went inside and found the place mostly empty, training hand ended for the day and he could sense the residents in the main house. So he made his way over.
"Come on in, Izuku." The voice of Keizo said from the inside before he could knock on the front door. He went in and found his master sitting on the floor in the living room, painting a haiku. Saki was doing Kiyuki's hair while Michiko brought in cups of tea from the kitchen.
Michiko smiled at him when he entered, "If it isn't our number one disciple, back for a little visit?"
"That, and I could use a little guidance." He said, looking at Keizo who felt his eyes on him but hadn't looked away from his painting.
"The Bug mentioned you two had plans today, how'd that go?" Saki asked.
"Pretty good, it'll be an important thing for later. Keizo, do you have a minute." He asked as he walked towards his master.
"Sure Izuku, just give me a moment to finish this." His brush stroked elegantly along the paper.
By the way that kanji is wrong?" Izuku said mischiviously.
"Yeah, not falling for that, Kiyuki already tried."
"You're always so serious with your paintings, dad." His daughter commented as she sipped tea and Saki did her hair.
"An artist requires focus, my dear. Izuku, what excatly is this issue you have?"
"Well you all know about my double life and you're gonna find out sooner or later so I guess I'll tell you all." He took a breath, what he was about to say became the full focus of everyone in the room. Michiko had been reading his body language since he walked in here, she knew when he had something heavy on his mind and this was one of those times. "I got a call from the public safety commission earlier, they told me I'm going to be the number one hero when the next billboard chart comes out."
There was a pause for a moment as everyone took in the information, "Congragulations, Izuku!" Kiyuki cheerfully complimented.
"Yeah, good job, Midoriya." Saki added.
"I figured it was something like that." Michiko stated, "But what's with the uneasy aura coming off of you? You'd think you'd be more excited about this."
Keizo had finished the final stroke of his haiku, his purple eyes were knowing as he turned to his disciple, "This is about you being quirkless, isn't it, Izuku?"
He let out a small sigh, "I know I should be happier about this, It's just that I stopped caring about being the top hero a long time ago. Now that title and responsibility is being thrusted on me."
Michiko looked at him empathically, "I sensed you changed the day you met All Might. Is that where you care about being number one dropped?"
"Basically. There was a point where claiming All Might's spot at the top would have been the greatest accomplishment for me, but now it just seems hollow and pointless. But even with that, I understand it's important for the public. I guess I'm still processing the fact that the same society that tried to keep me down now wants me to lead and protect it. I had a talk with Rumi earlier and she said I should be happy that I've won and proved everyone wrong, and I should be the change I want to see."
Kiyuki and Michiko raised an eyebrow at that last part, while Keizo closed his eyes and smiled gently, "Wait, Ru-chan said that?"
"I'm having trouble picturing that too. Rumi saying something insightful?"
"Those were her words to me, honestly."
"It sounds to me like you already know what you have to do, Izuku." Keizo said, his purple eyes meeting his green.
"Stand before all of society and guarantee everything is gonna be okay now that All Might's gone." Izuku answered casually. "I know, but there's gotta be a way for me to handle this without people picturing me as All Might or the Symbol Of Peace 2.0."
"Be your own number one hero then. I like Rumi's wisdom, be the change you want to see. But still be true to yourself as a hero. Your feelings about the title and ranking may have changed, but I'm sure that's not going to stop you from being the hero you've always been." The master's words were warm and honest.
Izuku took in his master's words, this whole time he knew what direction he'd need to take, this was just a change he wasn't expecting. "What does this title mean to the current you, Izuku?" Michiko asked.
"Honestly not much. I was fine with just being a hero. Saving any and every person I can, with the only expectations that mattered were the ones I put on myself. I don't see that changing much though, even though I know the expectations of all of society are going to be on me now."
"Does that scare you?" Saki asked.
"A little, actually. It almost feels like my dream isn't mine anymore."
"You're the strongest disciple in history, Izuku." Keizo met his eyes, "From that day you first came here, I saw something amazing in you. I was proud that we were going to be the ones to train you and raise you up. Point is, I knew at some point you would arrive here. You can change the flaws in society and be an example. While I agree the rankings are pointless, that doesn't change what you have to do."
Izuku stood, taking in the words of everyone. He didn't want to emulate All Might as the number one hero, he knew the kind of changes he wanted to see in the world. But he needed a plan of going about it without sounding preachy, as the top hero everyone will cling onto every word he says. He'd still do his best to duck the media when necessary, but he had to always remember that kind of stuff is secondary to being a hero. Many companies have reached out to him, but he reminds them that they are on his time, and anything that takes him from helping and saving people is secondary. He had to always remember the kind of hero he was, and what was truly important. If he was going to make the changes on society he wanted to see, he had to man up and be that change, and stand firm in his decisions. This was honestly no different from what he was already doing, maybe with everyone watching him now he can inspire more people, and be an example.
Izuku looked up, "Things are about to change."
"Well, you know you have our support." Michiko said to him, sipping tea on the couch.
Keizo smiled proudly at the young man whom he cared for like the son he never had, "You've come a long way from that little boy who just wanted a chance to chase his dream… Now, go and be a hero who shows others they can achieve theirs."
Izuku was warmed by their words, he brought his right fist to his left flat palm and bowed his head, smiling pleasantly, "I will master."
Keizo gave a small bow in return as Izuku rose back up, "So, do you have any plans for the rest of the day?"
"I have to meet with this company about a partnership. I'm trying to get equity, and I have to go talk to Endeavor about something."
Keizo was intrigued by this, "What company?"
"Hamon."
"Wait, isn't that the company that makes Bitimin Water?" Kiyuki asked.
"Yep. We met with them a few weeks ago after I reached out. Eri put me onto the water and I saw it as a good opportunity. They thought it was going to be a standard endorsement, but I threw them for a loop when I said I wanted equity in the company."
"That's a pretty bold ask on a first meeting." Keizo said, gripping his chin.
"In hindsight, yes. Thankfully they weren't entirely against it, I just blindsided them with that request. We set up a second meeting for today and it should go well. They have this new water coming out called Formula 1, it contains less sugar with more healthy vitamins and minerals. Who better to market that than me?"
Michiko met his eyes after hearing his enthusiasm, "So you have an actual plan to secure this deal? Just being a popular hero gets you in the door on these things, but your business sense and marketability is what brings it all home."
"I know that. This isn't my first deal, Michiko. I've seen the flavors, there's no watermelon. Which is a shock considering that's a top five fruit flavor everywhere you go. Them lacking that creates an opportunity to do business, and on top of that to really appeal to their base they need a popular flavor proven to work. My plan is to put down 7 million yen into 12 percent of my own water, I want 12 percent of the Formula 1 brand."
"The way you're talking implies the company is public." Keizo commented.
"It is. This will work, but I'm gonna go further. Taku and I are also going to do the marketing for it, we've already been looking at people to film a commercial, do photoshoots. I just got a shoe deal, so I'm gonna use that to market and promote it. Once we get that on TV and online, the brand as a whole is gonna blow up. We're gonna make an impact in the beverage industry, it's just a matter of time."
"Hm, you've learned your lessons well." Keizo complimented warmly.
"I had a good teacher." He smiled back at his master whom he was thankful for teaching him more than just how to fight.
"Wait, you can casually invest 7 million yen but you can't pay for dinner?" Saki's indigo eyes locked onto him.
"No no no no no no, don't even put that out ther, Okoto! Taku was gonna pay for everyones dinner until you started talking trash towards the end."
The ash blonde's face shifted, "I was kidding!"
"And he's petty." Izuku retorted.
Saki had a noticeable blush as she cocked her head to look away from Izuku, "That stupid bug."
Both Izuku and Kiyuki laughed at their friend's embarrassment, they both knew she and Taku had an entanglement the day after that inccident but they both kept quiet about it. Izuku thanked everyone for that talk and his mind was a lot clearer now. He talked for a while longer before he left. He got into costume and met up with Genos at Homon, they understood his time was finite and got straight to the point with their pitch, showing him the Formula 1 flavors. ONE initiated his plan and it went off without a hitch, he put 7 million yen on the table and made his demands, by the time it was over with, he owned shares that equaled 12% of the Formula 1 brand of Bitimin Water. They would get to work on marketing soon but right now they had more important things to do today. There were a few alerts on the app so ONE sent Genos to get a start on it and he'd join him later after he'd finished speaking with Endeavor.
ONE kicks off the air, stopping himself and floating for a few seconds. He was outside Endeavor's agency, he needed to speak with the flame hero about some of the details of his talk with All For One. He could have done this the other day, but he had other things to do. He was at a window at the top of the building, he could see the flame hero sitting at his desk. ONE knocked on the window to get his attention, Endeavor turned to him with his typical glare seemingly deeper than usual. He gestured for him to come in and using Phase ONE the hero kicked off the air and phased through the glass. He landed in the center of the room, meeting eyes with Endeavor, "Hey Endeavor, how are you doing?" He asked with a smile.
"If you've come here to boast then get the hell out." His words were calm but flames were clearly on the verge of bursting from him.
ONE smiled sheepishly, "I take it you got the call about the rankings?"
"That's right." His body erupted with flames, "What's the meaning of YOU being the number one hero!" He roared so loud his anger seemed hotter than the flames.
ONE raised his hands defensively, "It's not like I had any say in the decision. Believe me, if I could outright reject it, I would."
The flames died down a little just as the door opened and a concerned looking Burnin looked into the room. "Everything okay, Endeavor?" She wasn't surprised to see her boss on the verge of tourching the room, but she was definitely surprised to see ONE standing in the middle of the room, "ONE?!"
"Hello Burnin, how have you been?" He saluted her with a welcoming smile.
This was the sidekick's first time speaking with the independent hero, and his tone and manners threw her off for a moment, given how he didn't come in through the front door. "I'm fine. What are you doing here?"
"Came to speak with your boss about a few things." He answered casually.
"What do you want to talk about?"
"Not sure if you know this, but I killed All For One a few days ago."
Endeavor's flame dissipated as ONE's tone worried him, "What do you mean, "You killed him"?"
"Not literally, but basically. I destroyed his quirk, now he's decrepit and quirkless. The point is before I did all that he gave me insightful information about the League Of Villains."
Endeavor eased up, now understanding what he meant, even if he was still confused about how he could destroy a quirk. "What kind of information?"
"He mainly spoke about Shigaraki. The incident in Kashik tells me they're planning something."
"They killed Snatch then, didn't they?"
ONE lowered his head slightly, "Yeah, a part of that is actually my fault. We were supposed to guard the transport together, but I wanted to make sure the rescued hostages were safe and on their way home before I caught up."
Endavor read his body language, it was clear what happened to Snatch still bothers him, it actually surprised him he opened up like this. "If there were hostages involved you did the right thing, their well being is the most important aspect of any hero operation. Anything else is up to the heroes to deal with."
"Internally I know that, but still." ONE turned his head and there was silence.
Endeavor turned to his sidekick, "Leave us alone, Burnin." The flaming haired woman put up no resistance, only closing the door and leaving them to talk. "So what did you want to talk about?"
"I'll get straight to the point. What do you know about Dabi from the League Of Villains?"
Endeavor's eyes narrowed at the question, "The villain with the fire quirk? He's the one who technically killed Snatch, right?"
"All the evidence points to that. So, what do you know about him?"
Endavor looked down, the look in his eyes showed he was thinking about the question, "Nothing." He answered honestly.
"Are you sure? The only reason I'm asking this is because All For One was adamant that you have everything to do with Dabi. So much so, he wouldn't exist if it wasn't for you?"
"All For One said that?" He asked, now narrowing his eyes, confusion clear in his gaze.
"Yeah, he was quite forthcoming with information about the League, but claimed Dabi's story wasn't his place to tell, and that I should ask you."
Endeavor was now even more confused, he'd only heard of the villain recently and for All For One to claim he's responsible for him didn't make any sense. "I honestly don't know anything about that villain, ONE."
ONE put his left hand behind his head, "Yeah I had a feeling you'd say that. Just putting it in your head, because I'm going to be going after the League soon. But think Endeavor, a scorned fan or rejected sidekick. Actually, All for One said eleven years ago the boy who'd become Dabi burned a building that killed several people. That ring a bell?
Endeavor was hit more by the eleven years, than the fact that people died in a fire, as it was eleven years ago his first born died in a fire. "He said eleven years ago?"
"Yeah."
"You're sure?"
"Positive. I sense your emotions, Endeavor, is there something you're not telling me?"
Thoughts of Touya passed through Endeavor's mind, he could never forget that fire eleven years ago. His son wanted so badly for him to see him, and he didn't show, rejecting him. It eats at him to this day that that was the last time he saw his son, he hoped that he had somehow survived but he had to face reality and move on. He noted how ONE was looking at him, "It's no concern of yours."
"Something personal on your mind?"
"Again, no concern of yours. Is that all you came here to discuss?"
Basically. We can talk about the hero billboard chart if you want?" ONE asked sarcastically, smiling cheekily.
Flames erupted from the hero, "Get the hell out of here!" He roared, pointing at him to go.
ONE turned to leave, "Okay, I was joking by the way. Keep that Dabi stuff in your mind because I think there may be more to this story. Call it intuition, but I'm usually right about these things." He activated his Phase ONE technique and leaped through the glass window, he kicked off the air and flew through the sky upon reaching the outside. "Well, that went about as well as expected. Let's link up with Genos." Using Sky Walk: Flash Step he disappeared in a flash of speed.
The sun had gone down and ONE had knocked off many reports on the app with Genos, the crime rate in Musutafu has gone down conciderably lately which was a good thing. They decided to take a break and have dinner with their families and pick up things later for late night crime fighting. Izuku made it home to his apartment and could hear a familiar beat coming from inside. His dad was playing music and if what was happening was what he thought was happening, he was glad he made it home when he did. He opened the door and could hear Billie Jean by Michael Jackson playing in the living room, an excited smile spread across his face as he made his way into the living room. He could smell dinner and see his mom in the kitchen as he entered. He walked into the living room and saw his dad and Eri dancing, his dad's moves were flawless, he loved to dance and still had a lot of movement in his old bones. It was adorable to see Eri try to mimic him as best she could, the big smile on her face was evident she was havig fun.
Izuku jumped in during the chorus, and hit the billie jean shuffle, exciting both his dad and Eri, all while Inko smiled from the kitchen, they sang the song and danced in perfect unison, it was a lively party at the Midoriya residence. When the end of the song came it turned into a moonwalking contest between father and son. Izuku had moves, but this was Hisashi's music and his flow was enough to beat his son. They both encouraged Eri to try and Moonwalk and though it wasn't perfect she wasn't half bad. They went through three more songs, Remember the time, Thriller and Will You Be There. All and all it was a fun time, The most fun was definitely the three of them Zombie dancing to Thriller. Inko had to record it as it reminded her of when Izuku was young and how cute it was, now they added Eri to the mix, who was just as cute while doing it. The family of four sat down for dinner, it was still a pleasant night for all of them. Hisashi let out a pleasant exhale, "Haven't danced like that in a while. Good to see you've still got moves, son." Hisashi smiled at his son.
"Something else I got from my dad, right. I'm so glad I made it home when I did."
"How has your day been, Izuku?" His mom asked.
"It's been good for the most part, though I was hit with a surprise earlier."
His tone intrigued Hisashi, "Oh, what kind of surprise?"
"I got a call from the Public Safety Commission, apparently they want me to be the number one hero." He answered casually before taking a sip of his soup.
Both his parents went wide-eyed at these words while Eri happily ate her food, innocent of what he just said. "What did you just say, Izuku?" His father asked.
"When the next hero billboard chart comes out, I'll be the number one hero,"
Inko looked him in the eyes, "You're independent, can they do that?"
"Being independent allows me to make the charts, yes, but according to them they've considered my major cases, as well as my impact on society and approval rating. And based on that I earned the top spot."
Hisashi looked away from him for a moment to process all the information, "Wow, congratulations son."
"Thanks dad, though I can't say I'm too thrilled about it."
This surprised Inko, "Why? When you were little all you wanted was to be like All Might, now that he's gone they want you to take his place. You should be happy, Izuku."
"A lot's happened since then, mom. I had a nice talk with my masters earlier and they helped me see that this isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor does it have to change anything."
"Well whatever you choose to do, we'll support you." Inko said.
"They're actually making the rankings a live TV event this year, so I guess that'll be entertaining. Part of me wants to just bail on it because in the broad sense it's not important, but this is an opportunity for me to stand infront of everyone."
"Izu-Nii, can we play games after dinner?" Eri asked.
He smiled at the young girl, "Sure, Eri."
The family continued to talk and eat, Izuku's future number one status still fresh in the minds of both his parents. Honestly, as strong as they knew he was, this was still a large responsibility for a boy so young. Izuku was strong, and mature for his age, but he was still only sixteen, and he would need his parents through all this, even if it didn't always seem like it. They finished eating and the kids went to Izuku's room to play games, they were teaming up on a co-op war game. They were teaming up in a dogfight, dual planes, shooting other planes and racking up the scoreboard. Izuku sat on the side of his bed while Eri sat in his lap, this was a fun time to spend his break before going back on patrol. He's had a lot to think about over the past few hours and he needed to unwind.
In the midst of their gameplay Izuku's phone started ringing, he assumed it was Taku, maybe he found something and needed to get back to work early. To his surprise it was Momo, he happily answered the phone, putting it on speaker, "Hey Love, how have you been today?"
"Hi Momo!" Eri happily exclaimed.
"I've been fine, my love. Is there something going on with you?"
Izuku continued playing with Eri, he narrowed his eyes slightly at her tone, "You could say that, but it's nothing bad if that's what you're wondering. Why did you ask like that?"
"I spoke to Tabihara sensei, and she implied you had something troublesome on your mind."
"Hm, I guess my situation is what you'd call troublesome. I went to see them earlier, we had a great talk?"
"About~?" Her tone was curious.
"I'm gonna be the number one hero." He surprised himself for a moment at how casual his tone was, though he was used to talking with Momo about almost anything, he wasn't expecting it to come out so smoothly. "Guess, I've accepted it." He inwardly thought. "Momo?" He asked, noting how there was silence on the other end.
"Sorry Izuku, I was surprised. So that I'm clear, did you just say you're going to be the number one hero?"
"That's right. I got a call from the Public Safety Commisson earlier and they told me. The hero billboard is gonna be a live TV event this year too."
Momo was in complete shock. She knew he could make the hero rankings thanks to his independent license, but she didn't expect him to be named number one in his first chance to make it. Though given everything he's accomplished, even after becoming independent it shouldn't be too surprising he'd be named number one. "Well.. I guess congratulations are in order."
"Thanks, Love. I've spent the day since I found out processing my soon to be title. I've accepted it, though it means very little to me."
"I was going to ask and that answered my next question. I figured you'd feel that way."
"It's just a title. It means nothing in the grand scheme of being a hero."
"The number one hero is essentially the hero everyone looks to, Izuku. You're going to be the one that everyone trusts to make sure our society will be okay. Especially now given that All Might is gone."
"I understand that, Momo, and that's the only reason I'm even going to the event. I'm going to stand before all of society, and show them the kind of number one hero I'm going to be. Not the new Symbol Of Peace, or All Might 2.0, but a hero."
Momo couldn't help smiling on the other end at the conviction in his words, "That sounds just like you. Are you doing any interesting hero work tonight?"
"Don't know yet. We're going back on patrol later, I'm just taking a break. I had dinner with my family, and now me and Eri are probably just gonna play games until it's her bedtime." He paused the game to look at the time, "You have forty minutes left, Eri."
"Okay~." She said in a reluctantly accepting tone, shifting in his lap as she did so.
"So how's your day been? Anything exciting happening at the agency?"
"Since we had out debut, Ryukyu's allowing us to gain all kind of on the job training. "It's really educational." She answered with a smile.
"That's something you would definitely enjoy. Any interesting cases?"
"We've stopped a couple of thugs and low rank villains, but nothing too exciting."
"Most cases generally aren't exciting, get used to that now."
Momo closed her eyes and put a hand to her cheek, "It's a daunting reality."
"Where are you right now?"
"I'm in my room and Ryukyu's. Ururaka, Asui and I will be on call for the rest of the week. We're spending the night here and we'll be back at U.A tomorrow."
"Well train hard, Love. Let's hang out this weekend, maybe we can have a date night if you're not too tired."
"I'd like that." She paused for a moment, thinking it may be a while before they could celebrate his achivement. She laid in her bed, wearing her pink shirt and blue pajama bottoms. Thoughts of their last lusty intimate moment entered her mind, her hand subconciously slide in her pants towards her womanhood along with these thoughts. "Izuku, let's celebrate soon, goodnight."
Izuku had a small glint in his eyes when registering her tone, "Goodnight Beautiful, and sweet dreams." Izuku ended the call before he and Eri went back to playing, not five minutes later Izuku got a text from Momo. It was a set of emojis, a tongue, an eggplant, a peach and sweat drops. Izuku's smile at seeing this text was akin to the Cheshire Cat.
The greenette was so excited by this he forgot Eri was sitting in his lap, and had a full view of his phone. "What does that mean?" She asked innocently.
Izuku's rationality came back to him, almost dropping his phone at Eri's words. He held it together to smile confidently, "It means I'm going to eat a very sweet peach."
Eri's innocent red eyes shifted as her mind analyzed his words for a moment, "Oh, so Momo is gonna give you a peach. Can I have one?" She asked with a cute smile.
Izuku gently patted her head, "I thought you only liked apples?"
"Apples are my favorite, but Carol showed me that peaches are good too."
"Is that so? You know what, I'll buy you some mixed fruit, there are all different kinds of delicious fruits, and there are different apples you haven't tried." He said, hugging Eri.
Eri felt warm inside at Izuku's embrace, "Thank you, Izu-Nii. Hey, you know Momo's name means peach?"
Izuku's jovial mood shifted slightly, as if she understood what his words and that text really meant, "Y-Yeah, I suppose it does."
"That's really cute." Her innocent smile shined so brightly it nearly brought him to tears.
Izuku hugged her closer, relief washing over him, "You're such a good girl, Eri." He inwardly thought, thankful she hadn't decoded her first instance of sexting in any way. They were up until it was Eri's bedtime and Izuku put her to bed and read her a bedtime story until she fell asleep. He texted Genos to give him an it was time they got back on patrol and to be ready to head to Chiba. He kissed Eri's forehead good night, told his parents he'd be out on late patrol and left the apartment. Another text came through on his phone, this was one of Rumi. It was a sexy pic of her posing with a sexy smile in a cream long sleeve, mid-crop pajama top with no bra underneath and black panties. The caption read, "I'm waiting, number one", a smile spred across his lips as in a flash he was on his way to Fukuoka.
Fukuoka
Izuku touched down near Mirko's hotel, he found a secluded spot and got out of costume. She sent him the hotel and her room number earlier and had an hour to kill before getting back to work with Genos and he was gonna make the most of it. He made his way to the 6th floor of the hotel and made his way to the room, after a few knocks he was greeted with Rumi in the same outfit from her pick, "You sure took your sweet time, kid." She said, quickly letting him in.
"Well I thought a lot about what you said today. Thanks Rumi, I really appreciate it." His smile turned her on.
She smiled back at him, "No problem, we can't have the new number one walking around in the mix." Her eyes narrowed at him lustfully, "So, let's make this celebration more fun, huh."
Izuku was intrigued, "How so?"
"I challenge you, number one. Let's have fun but treat this like a spar." She said with sexy confidence.
Izuku met her gaze with a charming smile of his own, "Alright. So you want this time to be like a fuck-fight, huh? That's a first for me." He closed his eyes while still smiling, "I'm a firm believer that sex is like a race where you don't want to come in first place." He opened his eyes, his emerald orbs piercing the rabbit women, "That being said." In a flash he lifted Rumi off her feet, his strong hands gripping her ass and exciting her more. He held her close to him, her tight body pressing against his strong one and surprising her as he spoke into her ear, "Are you sure you can handle it, Rumi?" His tone sent excited chills through Rumi's body until her womanhood tingled from a light orgasm.
Rumi's face was in shock, she unconsciously wrapped her arms around his neck, almost like gripping a life-line. "How the hell does he do that? He said my name and I came a little." She thought, registering the moisture spreading through her womanhood.
Izuku registered her body language, he knew full well how she reacted when she came and could tell she just did.
A sly smile spread across his face, "Oh, have we already started? I'm not inside you yet and I'm already in the lead. Is that all you got, Rumi?"
Rumi had a slight blush, but her competitive nature wouldn't let that comment go unchecked. "You're really cocky tonight. Get on the bed so I can remind you who I am." She said coolly."
"Yes ma'am." Izuku backed up as the two started kissing. He laid back on the bed as they continued making out, his hands had a full feel of her ass, massaging her sweet cheeks and making her wet. Rumi broke the kiss, rose up and took off her top, Izuku took off his shirt and she could feel him getting hard beneath her. She looked at him lustfully as she playfully massaged the rock hard bulge in his pants that was on the verge of tearing them.
Izuku laid back and relaxed on the bed as Rumi happily sucked him off, her tounge sliding up and down his shaft like a nice frozen treat. She stroked him as she worked him with the look of a mature woman as she took his shaft into her mouth, her lips pressing on it and her tongue lapping at it like it was her favorite lollipop. The effects of her oral pleasure showed as the occasional moan escaped Izuku, this never got old. He looked into the hungry eyes of the rabbit woman who's head was bobbing up and down on him. She continued slurping his cock with ease, her hair aching each time she went up and down. She used her free hand to massage Izuku's cum-filled balls, sucking and playing with these had become one of her funnest things to do when she sucked him off. Izuku's reaction when she fundled and sucked his balls was adorable, ONE didn't have many weaknesses and she found it cute that this was one of them.
She deepthroats the dick, feeling it in the far end of her throat, her hungry eyes never leaving Izuku who was stuck from her pleasuring. She slowly freed the vast organ from her mouth while continuing to stroke it, smiling sexily at him, "So how's it feel to be number one?"
"I want to keep basking in the moment." He replied. Rumi was pleased to hear he set aside his issues from earlier and went straight for his balls, gently kissing the large sacks before her moist lips sucked one of them into the welcoming pocket of her warm mouth. Izuku's moans grew louder as the humming from her lips gave a pleasant tingle to her work. Izuku was having the best time right now, Rumi's blowjobs were amazing and she had much more vigor than usual. He put aside his thoughts about being the top hero for later, right now it was just him and his bunny. He watched in amazement as she happily licked and sucked his sacks, she had a sexy smile that showed she was enjoying this just as much as he was. His mind was completely blown when she took both his balls into her mouth, his nuts bloating her cheeks and her sucking making him leak a little pre-cum. "Holy crap!" Izuku exclaimed from this new pleasure. He instinctively pulled Rumi's head into crotch, he was on the verge of exploding with both his balls in her mouth.
The rabbit woman's pussy was dripping onto the bed as she sucked the younger male. She's been with many men, but she's never had a cock like this, nor a man like this. This kid was the first and only person to truly dominate her, both physically and in bed. She loved it when he got rough with her, when she took both his balls in her mouth this was the reaction she wanted. She sucked and stroked harder, noticing her hand became slicker from pre-cum that flowed from his tip like warm honey. Izuku took his hand from her head and she freed his sacks from her mouth with a satisfied smile that clearly turned him on. She licked the middle of his cock before rising up until her tounge was met with the sweetness of his pre-cum. The taste and smell of his cock was addicting and she couldn't wait to have this inside her. She had a XL condome to put on him, but it would probably break, she almost didn't care if they ended up breeding, that's how much she liked him, and not just the sex.
"Now for the real fun part." She said as she ripped open the condom in her hand.
Izuku mentally slapped himself for not having protection. He usually kept a condom in his wallet, but used his last one on Momo the other day. Not to mention his pullout game wasn't the best, he needed to work on that. Honestly he was lucky he hadn't gotten a pregnancy call from Rumi, thankfully Momo was on birth control and they used protection. But given Rumi's rabbit biology, he needed to be very careful when doing it with her, good thing she came prepared. As he thought this, Rumi put the condom in her lips and swallowed his dick, fully wrapping it in the condom and giving the tip a kiss after freeing it from her mouth.
"Fuck Fuck Fuck!" Rumi groaned as she bit into the pillow while Izuku fucked her. She was ass up face down with Izuku's strong hands gripping her back, holding her in place as his foot long dick pleasured the deepest places of her womanhood. "How does he always fuck me like this?" Rumi thought as she was going crazy from pleasure. His big balls were popping her pussy with every thrust, she could barely take it. Nobody has ever done her like this kid, he was naturally gifted at sex and he had the tools and power to make a woman cum with a single thrust. But he often chose to make her ride a wave of constant pleasure, just short of orgasm before making pleasure tear through her entire body. Her pussy dripped as his huge dick hit her deepest parts over and over again, it was practically throbbing with pleasure. This was what he wanted, he loved to fuck her like this, he knew how to fuck her like this, and she had no mental or physical defense for it. She felt herself getting coser to the edge before she yelled into her pillow, cumming all over his dick.
Rumi's moans filled the room as she rode her first wave of orgasm, she knew there was more to come and just the thought made her dripping wet. Izuku lifted her up and spun her around to where she was sitting in his lap, pussy gripping his still rock hard cock as she wrapped her arms around his neck and met his eyes. Izuku glaced at her with a charming smile, "You came so easily, is that all you got, Rumi?"
She smiled sexily back at him, "Hell no, I'm just getting started, Kid!" She shot back defensivley as she began grinding on him. She tried gripping her pussy tighter on him, but the tighter she went the more it could make her come again. Izuku hadn't started moving yet, but once he did she knew what was next. The next moment Izuku leaned in and kissed her, surprising Rumi, in that same moment his strong hands gripped her left ass cheek and right thigh, lifting her up and thrusting upwards. Rumi's eyes widened as he filled and pleasured her. They'd been at this for almost an hour and she still couldn't get used to it, but she was quickly becoming addicted to Izuku's sex. He fucked her like this for another half hour, making her cum out of her mind again and again and kissing her so loving and passionately that she melted. She practically had hearts in her eyes as her mind raced when Izuku laid her down on the bed and fucked her missionary.
She usually hated this position as it was too lovey-dovey, but at this moment she didn't care. Her yells and moans of pleasure continued, Izuku giving her long, deep strokes reaching places no man ever has. She felt like she was about to cum for the tenth time, her breast giggling and her body flexing with each thrust of Izuku's cock into her. Her mind was racked with thoughts of this boy, his sex envelpoing her every thought. She never knew it could feel this good, "Oh god, nobody fucks me like you fuck me!"
Izuku smiled slyly at these words, speeding up and going to her ear, "Tell me again, I wanna hear it more."
"Nobody fucks me like you fuck me!" Rumi felt his cock throb as he asked this and it drove her crazy, she pulled him into a kiss as he fucked her harder and faster, setting off a wave of violent orgasms as their toungs wrestled for dominince with him beating her. With one final thrust he painted her insides white, his seed bloating her womb before exploding out of her. Rumi was high on orgasm as she contuinued meeting lips with Izuku. Her body was still trembling from both their orgasms as she tried to catch her breath, freeing her lips from Izuku's. Rumi had the biggest smile on her face and her eyes looked as if she were in a daze, this was Rumi's O-face and he loved seeing it. He freed his dick from her that was coated in their mixuture, but he was still focused on Rumi, "You're making that face when you cum alot. As adorable as always, Rumi." The rabbit woman was still catching her breath, but she made eye contact with him.
Izuku got off the bed, he was preparing to get dressed while Rumi basked in the glow of their amazing sex. Her naked body contorted happily as their mixture leaked from her, "Kid, that was amazing~!"
"Yeah, thanks for celebrating early with me, Rumi." Izuku said, meeting her eyes, he got off the bed to get dressed as a dick-drunk Rumi watched him. Just seeing his hot, naked body was enough to make her want to go another round. Their mixture was leaking from her onto the bed and Mirko smiled pleasantly as she leaned back on the bed, "God, I hope I'm pregnant." She thought through her orgasmic blissed state, her clarity being skewed.
"So did you get the call about the rankings too?" Izuku asked, finally getting his post-nut clarity.
"Yeah, number five. It's whatever." She said casually.
He gave her a cool grin, "Just whatever? You passed Edgeshot."
"Yeah, just whatever."
"Alright, I still have to go back on patrol. See you at the announcements, Rumi."
"See you then, number one." Her pure white smile was sexy as hell. Izuku got dressed and left the room, Rumi decided to bask in the glow of after-sex before going to sleep. She felt a strong urge to touch herself, a little frustrated he couldn't stay longer. She could go for another round in the shower.
Next Day
ONE was walking in the mountains with Gran Torino, he was accompanied by detective Tsukauchi and he was helping the older pro on a case. There had been numerous sightings of Kurogiri in the area the past few days and they surmised he'd be nearby. There were multiple officers spread across the mountain, with radios to notify the heroes when he was spotted. They had advised ONE to stay on the ground, as it wouldn't be good for the villain to spot him in the air and take off. "So Kurogiri has been spotted here consistently over the past few days, do we know what he's up to out here." ONE asked.
"We have two theories, one, we suspect that the league's hideout may be somewhere around here. Two, he's looking for something, given the behavior he's exuded in the eye witness reports."
"I like that second theory better. The guy can teleport, so it doesn't make sense for him to be so out in the open like this. And if this was where their hideout was you'd definitely see more of the league. Very few of them know how to be inconspicuous. But that raises another question."
"What exactly is he looking for?" ONE and the detective said in unison. ONE looked in the distance, having sensed the mist villain's pressence, "I got him." He leaped into the sky and kicked off the air. He spotted the villain and in an instant slammed him to the ground with a grip that threatened to crush his metal plate if he made the wrong move. "Hey Kurogiri, it's been a while."
Fear quickly gripped the villain as he could never forget the last time this hero had him like this, "O-ONE." Fear was clear in his tone.
"You've been hanging out here a lot lately, what are you doing here?"
Gran Trino and the police arrive, the police had their guns drawn, ready for anything. "ONE, be careful, he won't be easy to restrain." Tsukauchi said, not wanting to lose this chance to arrest the villain.
"I've got this, detective." He ended this statement by lifting up Kurogiri, squeezing his metal plate more and making him groan with pain, "He won't do anything stupid as long as I'm holding this." He looked the villain in the eye, a wave of Power Aura coming off of him that scared the villain, the elder hero and the police. "Now, I'll ask you again, what are you doing out here?"
Kurogiri hated this sensation, fear gripping every aspect of his being, the feeling of imminent death if he did or said the wrong thing. This hero defeated the master like it was easy, finding "Him" was his best chance to get out of this situation, and he was sure he was nearby. "ONE, have you heard the rumors of a wild man appearing in this area?"
"A wild man? You mean like a hermit or something?"
"Not quite. I have business with that wild man." Just as these words were uttered the ground began to rumble. It started and then it stopped, it was evident that something big was on the move. The rumbling got stronger, and louder, and whatever it was was heading for them.
"What the hell is happening?" One of the officers asked, clearly worried.
ONE looked ahead of him, sensing an unfamiliar presence in conjunction with the rumbling, this presence was bigger than Mt. Lady, and he readied himself for a fight, "I get the feeling things are about to get rather violent." He squeezed harder on Kurogiri, "I would rather avoid that, Kurogiri."
The villain ignored the fresh pain, only eager for the man he's been looking for to appear. "That man..Is always looking towards the future." A massive figure came into view, spiky red hair, a muscular, rock-like body with sharp teeth and a radio around their neck. Everyone but ONE was visibly afraid at the presence of this giant, "ONE, Tsukauchi, Gran Torino, Shigaraki wasn't the only one that man raised… All For One's bodyguard, Gigantomachia."
ONE stood strong, sensing malicious intent coming off of this giant, this man must be All For One and the League's secret weapon. He didn't have the same kind of pressence as a Nomu, but still. ONE narrowed his eyes behind his cowl as Gigantomachia raised his right fist and threw a punch at the hero. The entire area was destroyed, the windpressure alone uprooted trees and the entire mountain shook from the giant's blow.
Tsukauchi opened his eyes, his ears were still ringing and saw he was surrounded by his fellow officers and Gran Torino. They were in a different part of the perimeter, far away from where they just were, nereby he could see several other offices who were looking in this area. In the distance he could see the dust and earth that was kicked up from that monster's attack. Everyone was unharmed and ONE stood before everyone else, still holding onto Kurogiri. Gran Torino got up and dusted himself off, "That was a close one, kid."
"Sorry about that. I guess I was distracted."
"By what?" The detective asked.
"That guy… He clearly has multiple quirks, but he doesn't strike me as a Nomu." He brought Kurogiri to his face, "What the hell is that man?"
"I've told you, he's the master's bodyguard."
"He must be a terrible bodyguard if he wasn't around the entire time I was pummeling All For One."
"The master sent him away to later be of use to Tomura Shigaraki, he's our secret weapon and greatest asset."
"Is that so?" ONE took a few steps, "Let's go talk to him." In a flash he was gone.
"There he goes." Tsukauchi stated, the ringing finally gone.
"Think he'll be okay?" One of the officers asked.
"Kid'll be back in no time. In the meantime let's make sure we have what we need to restrain and transport Kurogiri, he was our reason for coming here."
The dust had fully cleared, Gigantomachia pulled his fist out of the ground, he looked across the destroyed wilderness and didn't notice any dead bodies. Green suit, black mask, if that was the man who beat All For One it was natural he wouldn't die that easily. "ONE." He said in a deep growl.
"Yeah, how can I help you?" This sudden voice made the giant turn to his right, but didn't see anyone there. "Over here." The voice said again, this time he followed it more closely and saw the hero along with Kurogiri on his shoulder. "Hello~." He said and waved playfully at the giant's confusion. As if trying to swat a fly, Gigantomachia brought his left hand to his shoulder to squash the hero. It didn't feel like he hit him and there wasn't anything on his shoulder or hand. "You're touchy." Looking up he saw ONE flying and looking down at him, "All For One could use a better bodyguard, not that you would have made a difference." ONE kicked off the air towards the giant.
Gigantomachia grit his teeth at these words, "I'll make you pay for hurting All For One!" He threw another punch, ONE barrel rolled over his arm to swiftly dodge. With another kick off the air he was in his face in a flash, the hero contorted himself to kick him the right side of the head. His skin cracked from the point of impact along with a few of his teeth and Machia's eyes went white as he went down like a tree. The ground shook violently as the giant hit the ground hard, this level of pain completely foreign to him.
Kurogiri was at a loss for words to see their secret weapon go down so easily, "G-Gigantomachia!"
ONE looked down at the fallen giant, "Some secret weapon you've got there. While I've got you here, where's Shigaraki and the League hiding?"
"I can't tell you that, it's my job to protect Tomura Shigaraki."
"Because you want to, or because you're ordered to?"
The mist villain's eyes widened a bit but was quiet, "I…Don't know."
ONE was about to ask another question when he saw Gigantomachia begin to stir awake, his eyes locked onto the hero, malice clear in his gaze, "You." He said weakly.
"You attacked me first, remember. Let's just end this, you still have a chance of ending this on a high note without further violence while you still can." The giant merely roared and threw another punch that tore through the ground, until it hit the hero full force. The ground exploded from his blow, Gigantomachia couldn't move his arm any forward, he grit his teeth struggling against the force stopping him.
The dust cloud dissipated revealing ONE, him standing strongly, unfazed, not a inch pushed back from where he originally stood. The giant grit his teeth and he put all his power into crushing the hero, but try as he might his fist wouldn't move, "Are you finished?" These words hit Gigantomachia at his core. He looked down at the hero, fear creeping into him before his eyes wided in realization. This man, he was far more powerful than him, and All For One, and he was about to be on the receiving end of that power, "Guess it's my turn." ONE said sternly as he easily pushed the giant's fist away from him. In a flash he was gone, pain shot through every inch of Gigantomachi's body as ONE's fist connected with his gut, his rock-like body racked from the point of impact, air caught in his lungs and before he could fully process it, another kick to his face sent him, sprawling away. Nature was devastated from his massive body tearing through it, he laid on his back, barely conscious as he was gripped by great, unfamiliar pain.
"I-I don't believe it. Gigantomachia defeated so easily." Kurogiri thought aloud, his yellow eyes shifting to the hero who still had him in his grip, "How are you so powerful, ONE?"
"Hardwork." He stepped towards the downed giant, "When will you villains learn that violence like this is unnecessary? When I give you an out, why would you be a fool and not take it?" The black mist was silent. He knocked Gigantomachia a long distance away, as he slowly approached him he saw him stir again. He was sure he didn't knock him out again, he was moving and barely able to stand. His breathing was rough, it was evident he was in a lot of pain, he turned to look at the hero who was casually walking towards him. Many thoughts ran through his head, this man defeated All For One, he stood no chance of defeating him, and he was power. He felt his power, it was as boundless as the ocean, but that only confused him. He pushed past his pain, he was on all fours, he could barely stand and it looked like he was prostrating himself. "One… I… Have a question." He said through rugged breaths.
ONE noted the giant's words, he looked like he was about to pass out, he clearly wasn't used to being hit as hard as he's hit him. "Fine, I'm happy to answer you before you pass out. What do you have to say?"
His arms and legs tingled a little, almost unable to support his weight, "Why aren't you a king?" ONE narrowed his eyes behind his cowl. "With your power, you could instill fear and dread. You could stand above all men. You defeated All For One.. There's no one who can stand above you, so why aren't you a king?"
There was silence as the hero registered the giant's question, he's heard similar questions like this before and the answer was always the same. ONE looked through his lenses, his emerald eyes piercing into the giant's soul, "Because I never wanted to be, and have no desire to be a king. I'm a hero… What you just described isn't a king, but a tyrant. I have no interest in such nonsense. My strength is meant to protect people, especially the weak from oppression, not to build myself up because I can. All For One is that kind of man, what genuine good came from the life he lived?" Machia's eyes widend at the mention of All For One, "Maybe you should take a good loook inward, and think what kind of man have you've truly been following."
"All For One is the ideal man!" He managed to yell through the pain.
"That ideal man… Picks and chooses when he wants you." Machia's was hit hard by these words, "Last I checked a bodyguard was supposed to guard at all times, from anything. I didn't know you existed until today, how many times has All For One disregarded you, and trampled on your loyalty when you wanted to be there for him?"
Machia lowered his head, "He said I was important… That I had to go away and later be of use to-"
"Shigaraki." ONE cut him off, forcing him to look at him again. "You didn't ask to follow, or aid Shigaraki. But he expects you to, doesn't he? ONE got closer and closer, the silence between them was palpable, "Let me guess, you had a hard life, he helped you by giving you a quirk, that then turned to several others. And each time you could help him, each time you were there for him, your loyalty and devotion to him grew. All the way until you became his bodyguard, Gigantomiachia, and his secret weapon." The giant was still silent. "You should know, All For One is dead. The man and the quirk, they're both gone forever." Machia's eyes wided, looking on the verge of tears. "Just because he raised you up, and showed you a different path in life, doesn't mean he can respect you so little as to summon and discard you whenever he wants."
"You… Don't know." He struggled to say.
"What don't I know? The fact that you're standing before me is indicative of the fact he can capitalize off of your loyalty. "I don't want to hurt you, but I also can't let you aid the villains in causing problems. So what's it gonna be, Gigantomachia?" Before the giant could utter a word a disgusting grey goo came out of his mouth and consumed him, the hero instantly recognized this quick and rushed to grab the rock-like skin of the villain, but wherever this quick was warping Machia, it wasn't taking him with him. "Damn it, there's only one person who could pull something like this." Thoughts quickly flashed to the doctor, "If you can hear me Ujiko, you better know I'm coming for you!" He bellowed as the goo consumed Gigantomachia's massive body and he was gone. He brought Kurogii to his face, "Where did he go!"
"I don't know."
"Bull! You knew he'd be out here in the middle of nowhere, you can't convince me you don't know where he could have been sent just now. This was Ujiko's doing, where is he!"
"I swear to you, ONE, I don't know." ONE applied more pressure to his metal brace, denting and slowly crushing it, Kurogiri groanedd in pain until he finally screamed, "I swear I don't know!"
ONE eased off the villain, though he knew Kurogiri was lying. He could crush this brace like a soda can, but realized Kurogiri would rather die than give up Shugaraki. This required a more delicate approach, and this wasn't the time for it. He eased up, allowing Kurogiri to register the pain. ONE still had Kurogiri and that was the most important thing today. He got back with Tsukauchi and Gran Torinoo and explained the situation, they understood and took the mist villain into custody. Before leaving, ONE looked back along the mountain, the natural beauty was so nice before the situation with Machia. He quickly shifted, ignoring it and then left.
Next day
The Midoriya familya was eating breakfast, the family of four happily ate their food, readying themselve for their day. "ONE for Number 1! It appears out local independent hero has reached the pinnacle of heroics." They all heard the voice of Fujioka say. Izuki quickly turned his head to the screen and saw the Show with Fujioka, Ugo and Katakuri, the caption on the screen was ONE for number 1. The moment he saw and heard this he knew where this was going, it was still a few days before the hero billboard live event, but somehow they had the details about his ranking beforehand.
"I swear nothing stays quiet when the media is involved." Izuku inwardly thought with slight annoyance.
"It is about that time of year again, the new hero rankings will be out later this week. And breaking news right here right now from us, I have heard from a reliable source that when the next chart is released, everyone's favorite Independent hero will be at the top of the list." The beautiful fox reporter turned to her co-anchers, "This was surprising to me at first but after I delved deeper into this decision it honestly isn't. Look at everything he's done since stepping onto the scene. We've been talking about him for almost a year and a half, and he's stopped major back to back incidents in the past few months. Now with All Might gone, ONE is probably the best we could ask for in a new leader for hero society."
Ugo looked at her, his expression telling he was enjoying this news, "I agree. What I'm most curious about is everything that went into that number one ranking. You'd think only the cases he's resolved since becoming independent would be counted here, even with that I guess it would make sense for him to be the new number one. The monster in Yamanashi, The Storm, The Kaminoi incident and the alien attack. Those are major cases in such a short time frame. His impact and contribution to society is unquestionable, and if he had a high approval rating this definitely checks out."
"I think I've just lost respect for the meritocracy of the hero rankings." Katakuri said sternly.
"Seriously?" Ugo said surprised, while Fujioka just rolled her eyes.
"Endeavor's been the temporary number one since All Might retired, he's worked hard, longer and deserves it more. But we're just going to give it to an independent hero because he's strong. I don't think so. I admit what he's done is enough to get him in the top ten, but to take the top spot out the gate? That's an issue for me, because he doesn't deserve it. It's like we're once again making excuses for him and giving him preferential treatment. Just like when he was a vigilante."
"I'll never understand your animosity towards him, Katakuri. Fujioka stated, "Look at everything ONE's accomplished since becoming legal. Like Ugo said, we've been following him for almost a year and a half, we had plenty of takes on his activities, and his impact on society has been nothing but positive. I've even had the chance to sit down with him, he's a very humble person. He's a hero, in every sense of the word. And let's not forget that he's quirkless. That sounds insane coming out of my mouth but it's the truth. I think with him as the number one it's a change in hero society, I've spoken to many people and heroes who find him inspiring. I mean can you imagine, striving to be a hero in the world built on quirks? Katakuri, you're against him because he's not traditional…But the world we live in didn't give him a choice!"
"Not only that, the guy's practically saved the world, you can't deny that he's a hero. Since he came on the scene there's been this shift in hero society. Heroes are working harder, the crime rate across cities has gone down, and he seems to set a new standard for being a hero. I see nothing at all wrong with that." Ugo commented.
"You don't see anything wrong with his degradation of the hero regulations, then the hero legalities, and now the hero rankings. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I can't support someone like that. And don't you think it's weird that no one knows what he looks like? He's about to be the number one hero, yet his identity is a secret, shouldn't we be able to look upon the face of our top pro. Why does he get such imputnity? I'll tell you why, because he's entititled, and we in the media have contributed to it." The camera pandered to it, "ONE, if you're watching this and your the hero you claim to be, take off the mask and be open like everyone else."
"It's kinda phased out nowadays, but he's made it cool to have a secret identity." Fujioka stated. "I wonder who he is every now and then." Fujioka said with a sly, foxy smile."
"My guess, he's probably some university student who balances school and crime fighting." Ugo added with a smile.
"Close Ugo, I'm a highschool student who balances school and crime fighting." Izuku thought as he looked at the screen.
Katakuri scrunched his nose, "I honestly don't know what to say. If none of you see the negative example he's been setting for aspiring heroes then there's nothing to talk about. Now we're going to degradate our pro system by making him our number one. This is the guy the world takes note of when thinking of Japanese heroes, this is our best?"
"Yes!" Both Fujioka and Ugo exclaimed.
"Well the cat's out of the bag now." Hisashi stated.
Inko looked at her son warmly, "Are you okay, Izuku?"
Izuku let out an annoyed exhale,"I'm fine, mom. Just wish this could have remained a secret until it was officially announced. But at least I've got Fujioka and now Ugo on my side."
"So, how are you going to handle your new fame?" Hisashi asked his son.
"By not handling it. The media wants me to be this savior who can replace All Might, but I'm not interested in that.. I intend to just be a hero, the same hero I've always been." He scratched his upper chin, "This is the first step in a new chapter for me. All I have to do is keep doing what I've always done."
Tachibana's Hideout
Takae Tachibana sat in the kitchen of her secret base, watching the news, her eyes glued on the caption ONE for Number One. She listened intently as Ugo, Fujioka and Katakuri spoke about the latest news before the actual announcement. "So, he's gonna be the new number one hero." She thought aloud as Satsuki came in with two cups of coffee.
"Is this real?" The gothic maid dressed woman asked.
Takae took one of the cups while still listening to the anchors, "It looks that way." She answered before taking a sip.
"Do you think it would be prudent to meet with him? He seems like the kind of hero you wish to create."
Takae closed her eyes while holding her coffee, "That boy was always going to end up here at some point, it's just surprising it happened so quickly." She looked back at the TV, "Still, for him to be named number one, so soon after becoming legal through independence is surprising."
"Well he did defeat All For One, on top of all the major incidents he's resolved since becoming independent. It's only natural after all that he'd have a high consideration for the top spot after all of that." She said with a smile.
"I guess." She looked past Satsuki and saw Kaina Tsutsumi, A.K.A Lady Nagant enter the room, she grabbed a pear off of a bowl of fresh fruit and sat down across from Tachibana.
"ONE? What's he done now?" The former convict asked.
"He's gonna be Japan's new number one hero."
Her purple eyes shifted at this, surprise clear on her face, "I see."
"So how are you feeling, how's life on the outside been treating you?" Takae asked jokingly.
"Refreshing. As refreshing as it can be for an escaped convict. Though honestly I haven't been able to relax like this in a while."
Take smirked, "That's good." In a flash she was behind Tsutsumi, groping her noticably large boobs, "They say it takes a while to decompress from prison life, but's good to see some things haven't changed!" She exclaimed with a smile.
Tsutsumi groaned, slightly annoyed, ignoring the fact they slept together just last night, "I'm not in the mood, Tachibana."
She fondled her boobs more rougher, to the point it actually excited the former pro, "That doesn't change the fact that these things are awesome!"
The purple haired woman blushed, pushing past her building pleasure to push the ash haired woman off of her, "I told you I'm not in the mood!"
"Alright alright, I'll leave you alone. Gale found his god as is making plans, we can get started on your former bosses today if you want." She said with a sly smile.
Tsutsumi crossed her arms, thinking for a moment. She wanted nothing more than to tear down the hypocritical bastadizing organization that was the Public Safty Commission, but they had to be tactful in their attack. They couldn't just kill the execs, though that would create a state of chaos real heroes had to overcome, which is what Tachibana wanted, "No, we have to think this over carefully." She paused, her eyes shifting as she thought of a plan, "How would you feel if I knew ONE would be entangled in my plan?"
"I'd call you fucking stupid. That assumes that there's a method to your madness." Takae answered.
"Of couse there's a method to my madness. But it may require you to go the extra mile, he may not find us, but if there was a hero to use to our ends,ONE would be that hero."
Takae and Satsuki looked at Tsutsumi, both intrigued by the plan she had in mind, and fearful that her plan involved ONE in any way.
League Of Villains Hideout
"What the hell is this!" Shigaraki yelled at the screen, Fujioka and Ugo talking about ONE being the new number one hero.
"It looks like there's a new number one in town, though a part of me is sad it wasn't Endeavor." Dabi commented.
"ONE is a hero acknowledged by Stain, so I'm fine with this." Spinner added.
Twice began to weep in a corner, "My most recurring dream has actually become a nightmare! This guy's gonna come after us! There's no way out!"
"Relax, Jin. So he's gonna be the number one hero. I'm not worried." Toga said aloud, though a part of her was interested in the independent hero. He seemed like the kind of hero she always wanted to meet. Her whole life she was told she was a demon child, that there was something wrong with her. A small part of her felt like ONE was someone who could understand her. She never wanted one, but she felt like he could be HER hero. She saw his interview with Fujioka, and some of what he said resonated with her.
"Damn, shit keeps going from bad to worse." Shigaraki thought, slapping a hand to his head.
"Not only that, Kurogiri has been caught, so what are we gonna do now, Shigaraki?" Spinner asked. "I joined the League as to adhere to Stain's goals, so where do we go from here?"
Shigaraki looked at him with bloodshot eyes, annoyed that once again everything revolved around the hero killer. When he recruited Dabi, Spinner and Toga it was because they looked up to Stain, now he was in jail along with his master and he needed a plan. He needed to find a way to kill ONE, and make people forget about All Might's stupid smile. His hatred wouldn't go away as long as those things existed and people took comfort in them.
U.A High
It was the morning before class, class 1A had eaten breakfast and were ready to start their day. Ojiro, Sero and Sato sat on the couches in the common room, their eyes were glued onto the TV. Fujioka Ugo and Katakuri were going on about ONE being the new number one hero. ONE's gonna change the landscape of the top ten just from his presence alone. "Man, ONE as the new number one hero? That's crazy!" Ojiro stated.
"They said only his major cases, impact on society and his approval rating are the reason for this." Sero added.
"But still, he hasn't been at this all that long. And he's gonna be the top hero, it just seems like they want the strongest hero to replace All Might." Sato said.
Bakugo and Kirishima walked into the common room, the blond's hands in his pockets and thoughts of the quirkless loser he hated so much on his mind. His talk with All Might and his easy defeat at Deku's hands has consumed his every thought, his talk with All Might has given him a new perspective on strength. But that didn't change the fact that if he wasn't the strongest, he couldn't be respected as the number one hero. He and the spikey redhead were about to leave the dorm when he shot a glance at the TV his curiosity stiring when he saw clips of ONE across the screen. His eyes widened when he read "ONE for number one", "What the hell is this?" Bakugo said with a slight snarl.
Ojiro peeked over the couch and saw the ash blonde and redhead, "Oh, hey Bakugo, Kirishima. It looks like ONE is gonna be the new number one hero."
"What!" Bakugo exclaimed.
"Whoa, seriously?" Kirishima asked.
Ojiro turned back to the TV, "Yeah, I was watching. I don't know all the particulars, but if you take a deep look into this it makes sense he'd be the number one hero, Especially given the fact he's the best we've got now that All Might's gone."
Kirishima smiled britghly, "Man that's crazy!" He clenched his fist, "ONE is a real man, honestly!" He trembled lightly with excitement at thinking about ONE.
"That fucking nerd." Bakugo lowley growled, his eyes covered by his bangs. His hands were clenched as if ready to fight, and his anger couldn't be contained. Over and over and over again, Deku has done nothing but get in his way. He keeps winning and showing the world he's a better and stronger hero than All Might, exactly what HE was supposed to do. He's getting rich, like HE was supposed to. Now he's gonna be the new number one hero after All Might? This bastard was living HIS life, the one HE deserved. Why is he so different from HIM? What the hell even is HE? After their fight, the only thought he had was that he was stronger than him all this time, and has been mocking him. Why won't he go away?! Why won't he leave him alone?! His thoughts consumed him as he remembered his talk with All Might, how he told him he's been wrong about everything, and should look to ONE as an example of a hero. It wasn't right, how could it be?! The bastard didn't even have a power. He was born a bottom feeder who shouldn't have amounted to anything.
He clenched his fists and grit his teeth hard enough tonearly crack them, "That bastard."
Kirishima turned to him, confused at his tone, "What's got you in a mood so early in the morning?"
Bakugo shot a death glare at Momo who was sitting with the girls and speaking with Hagakure at the dining room table, the malice coming off of him making her meet his eyes. "I'm gonna kill that fucking nerd." These words surprised the boys around him, while Momo narrowed her eyes at him. A bit concerned at how bad he was getting. "I'll be damned if I accept that bastard living my life." He snarled and walked away.
Kirishima was still confused by his words. He's known he's had a beef with ONE for whatever reason, but he's saved and helped them plenty of times. He could never forget all the times the green clad hero has helped him train his quirk, thanks to him and his words, he's strived to become an inpeniturable shield and an unstoppable spear. ONE taught him how to take a punch, it was so much more than that. He showed him what a real hero and real man stands for. While they were training their quirks, he was saving the world, now he's about to be the top pro. The spikey redhead clenched his fist, eager to see what ONE would become, and eager to push himself to become a hero who could follow his example.
Fett Arena
It was the day of the Hero Billboard Chart, it was live even this year and many people filled the building to get a look of the first chart without All Might. "It's a bright sunny day at Fett Arena, here in Kamino. It's the first chart since the alien attack where Sybol Of Peace, All Might was forced to retire. In the past pro's didn't come on stage during the announcements, but now we see something new." A female announcer said as she looked across the large, fully filled building. Heroes and fans alike flocked to the arena to see this new moment for heroes, the excitement was palpable as everyone waited for everything to begin. The new 2nd through 10th place heroes sat on the first row of the seating section in front of the stage, most of them sat calmy as they waited for the show to start.
"They're sure taking their sweet time getting this thing started." Hawks commented as he sat between Endeavor and Best Jeanist.
"This is a new format for the rankings, honestly I'm surprised so many came just to see this." Best Jeanist added.
"It's the intrigue." Edgeshot stated, jumping into their conversation. No one batted an eye at the fact that instead of sitting like a normal person, he was crouched into his seat, ninja style forming hand seals. "This may likely be the new way the top ten are announced, so many most likely wanted to be the first to embrace this new format."
"I just wish they'd get this over with, I have better things I could be doing right now." Mirko chimed in. She wanted to get this over with as quick as possible, though a part of her was curious as to how this would go down. She looked past the stage, knowing ONE was getting ready in the back.
"That's something we can agree on, Mirko." Endeavor thought as he quietly waited at the end of the bench with his arms crossed, rocking his new costume.
"Relax, Mirko. These formalities are important, so try to enjoy the moment." Edgeshot implored. The Rabbit Hero just brushed off his words with a nonchelant smirk.
Just then a female reporter came to Mirko, shoving a mic in her face, "Mirko, what are your thoughts on ONE being the new number one hero?"
She smiled confidently, "He's the strongest hero I know. And I've seen him do some amazing things, so if he's named number one, it's because he deserves it."
"And the rumors that you two are dating?" The reporter had an excited smile at this question.
Mirko didn't sweat at all. Paparazzi had taken plenty of photos of them together during their team ups, a few were compromising but it wasn't the first time she's heard this question. The kid definitely knew about it, but never addressed it so she never thought it worth commenting on. "We're just friends." She answered with an honest smile.
"Just friends, or Good friends?"
"Just friends." She answered again smiling, this time with her eyes closed.
"Think our new number one is going to make a grand entrance?" Hawks asked aloud, looking at Endeavor.
"I really couldn't care less."
"Cool new costume by the way." Hawks said with an honest smile. "Though I gotta admit your old one was cooler, it really showed off your flames."
Endeavor kept a neutral, angry expression, this new costume was meant to symbolize him getting control over the flames of his ambition. As it was those same flames that burned his family, and made him who he is. For better or worse, and he's only recently seen it was for the worst.
In the back
ONE sat in his waiting room alongside Genos, he was feeling himself in his new costume, he flexed his right hand in his solid black glove with a green palm. "So this is my Gamma Suit? This feels pretty good, Genos."
"Glad to see you like it. I wanted to go with a simpler costume design. Fun fact, your mom actually helped in the designing process, that look is by her design. While I enhanced your cowl with some extra features. Now you've got X-ray vision, on top of that I managed to make and include both a telekenetic and telepathic apparatus." He tapped his forehead, "I installed the same ones in this new Genos, and they are both strong and versatile. I'm sure you'll find a use for these upgrades."
ONE looked in a mirror and watched himself in his Gamma Suit. His jumpsuit was the same shade of green, black, wide, horizontal lines from the shoulders to the forearms. In the middle the suit included a zipper with an inch and a half wide rising black flame design lining it with red highlights. His cowl was the same, he sported a black cape that ended at his waist, his utility belt was still red and had more pockets than before. The lower part of his suit was solid green with his combat boots styled like his trademark red ones, these being red with a black toe and soles. This design may have been simpler when compared to his other ones, but he liked it, it was a fresh start for a new beginning. Genos crossed his arms, smiling at his friend as he watched him feel himself, the TV in the room was showing the live coverage of the event going on just outside, the people were getting lively.
"Looks like they're ready to start this thing. So, are you ready?"
The hero punched his left hand, "As ready as I can be. This'll be the first time I address the public in person, it kinda feels like a different kind of debut."
"Do you know what you're going to say?"
"All that matters is that I don't intend on sticking around for very long."
"We're gonna look into that stuff in Kyushu?"
"That, on top of the company that published that villain biography. I haven't read it but I hear it's popular."
"I'll get my hands on a copy and get back with you, what's so problematic about this book?"
"I haven't read it so I can't call it problematic yet, all I can say is something like that becoming so popular in our current climate gives me a bad vibe."
Just then there was a knock at the door, it was one of the staff for the event. She was an attractive young woman with grey hair, drooping dog ears and a tail of the same shade. She had red eyes and was VERY well endowed, "We're about to begin, ONE. You should make your way to the stage now." She said with a beautiful, encouraging smile.
ONE bowed respectfully, "Thank you, I'll be right there." She closed the door and the hero turned to his sidekick, "Well, that's my que. See you in a bit, Genos."
"Good luck, ONE. And you know no matter what happens out there, I've got your back. And I'll always believe and follow you."
The hero gripped the door handle, pausing for a moment after registering his sidekick's words. Taku's been here since the beginning, he's done nothing but support him throughout his entire journey. If he didn't have him as his tech guy, he honestly wouldn't be as effective as he's been. They've put in many hours investigating together, and he didn't want to think about how his life would be if he didn't have him. He's given his thanks on many occasions, after all he was his friend before anything he did as ONE, not to mention his family's been nothing but supportive and helpful. The day they met, Taku made it clear he just wanted friends, growing up in a big house with parents that were always busy, he understood how it felt to be alone. They were alike in that respect, and the more he got to know him, the more he realized he was looking for a friend like him. And they'd become an invaluable friend to one another.
ONE looked at the cyborg, Genos noted his serious body language, "You okay, ONE?"
The hero smiled gently, "I'm fine. It's just…" He met Genos in the eyes, "Thanks for everything… Partner." He left Genos in the room, a smile on the cyborg's face as thoughts of everything they've been through ran through his mind. He turned to the TV as they started announcing the top ten, starting with Gang Orca. "All my life I was waiting for a friend like you to show up. You were quirkless, but out of all people, I felt you understood me." He looked at his crybernetic hand, "I'm only standing here like this because I wanted to see what you'd become, and I'd never imagined we're come this far so quick. We saved Japan, and basically the whole damned world after all." He closed his eyes, his smile never faltering, "I'm really glad I met you, Izuku."
On the stage
"Number ten! Holding his spot from the last chart, Gang Orca!" The crowd erupted as the whale made his way to the stage.
He humbly waved to the crowd, "Thank you, I'm honored to be placed this highly."
"At number nine! An old pro but he hasn't lost a step, Equipped Hero: Yoroi Musha!"
The oldest hero groaned, "Outside of the top three, numbers are meaningless. They're simply the tide of the times."
"At number eight! From the clean and shiny commercial, It's everyone's favorite Laundry Hero: Wash!"
"Washa Washa!"
"At number seven! From the old school of manliness, Shield Hero: Crust!"
The hero grit his teeth and clenched his fist, tears welling in his eyes, "All Might, I wanted to see you in action more. Such a shame."
"Number six! He's holding his same spot from the last chart, but you should see the increase in this ninja's resolved cases, "Ninja Hero: Edgeshot!"
"This is a new start, my team and I will help many."
"At Number five! "This bunny's spirit is infectious! No matter who she's up against, all she knows is go go fight fight! Rabbit Hero: Mirko!"
She coolly brushed her hair to the side, "You can keep saying that, that doesn't change the fact you're weaker for forming a team."
Edgeshot was slightly annoyed by this statement, "I seem to recall you teaming up with ONE on multiple occasions."
"Teaming up and forming a team are two different things."
"At number four! With the second highest approval rating this round, it's Fiber Hero: Best Jeanist!"
"Easy you two, we're in public. Try showing the crowd your best denim, I'm looking at you, Mirko." The rabbit woman merely hmphed and coolly turned away with a confident smile, she was used to being treated like the problem child among the top ten.
"Number three! He does things his own way, which is how he reached the chart with lighting speed, "Winged Hero: Hawks!"
The hero rubbed his head, "I'm not sure about all that, pretty sure number one's got me beat in that department."
"At number 2! He was the temporary number one, and though he's in his same spot, his position in the top three cannot be questioned, Flame Hero: Endeavor!"
The hero stood before the crowd cross armed with a neutral, angry expression. He was a little irked at the announcer's words. Many people in the crowd took note of his new costume and he was glad for that. A part of him wondered how he would feel if his number one spot hadn't been temporary, but this was reality. As much as it angered him in the beginning, he accepted ONE was more deserving of the position than anyone else on this stage.
The lights shifted to the side of the stage, shining on ONE in his gamma suit. The hero walked forward as the announcer spoke, " Now for number one! The former vigilante turned Independent Hero, the first quirkless hero to take the sacred spot of number one! He's solved hundreds of cases, his major ones showing his power and heart! He has the highest approval rating, he's saved Japan and even the world! An example that anything is possible! Independent Hero: ONE!" The crowd went ballistic when he made his way to the stage the building was practically shaking from the applause. He took his place on the stage and stood next to Endeavor, and he could sense almost every eye in this building on him. Though he was expecting this, he knew what it was like to meet a famous hero for the first time, and this was most likely many people's first time seeing him in person.
After the crowd had died down a woman in a business dress came onto the stage, she was clearly a high ranking member of the Public Safty Commission. "We've decided to treat the announcements more of an event today because we feel this is a critical junction for heroes. It's been about three months since All Might's retirement, and though some of you feel we're lacking an icon, the heroes that will guide us into the future are standing before you. Let's put our faith in them."
In the midst of her speaking, Hawks looks around Endeavor to speak to ONE, "So, what's it like to take the top? You really went from illegal zero to number one hero." He whispered, smiling coolly.
"Started from the bottom now I'm here." He replied with playful confidence. "But seriously, I don't care about the title at all. All that matters is that I only plan on being a hero at the end of the day." He whispered back.
Hawks kept a smile, clearly happy with this response and stood straight again. "How about we hear a few words from everyone." The announcer on the stage said, getting the attention of everyone.
She started with Gang Orca, "Our Symbol may be gone, but a hero's job never changes. All of you can rest easily, we hold this position seriously to protect society."
"The world may change, but our objectives have not." Yaroi Musha commented.
"Wash!" The Laundry hero exclaimed while flexing.
She got to crust and the hero's passion and sadness about All Might errupted, "Why wasn't I in Musutafu that fateful day!"
"What about you, Edgeshot, you were fourth in the approval ratings?"
"I'm not concerned with such numbers. I'm grateful for the support I've received, but I don't do this for notoriety. I believe it is my duty to bring about peace."
She moved onto Mirko, "If anybody out there is scheming right now, you best be prepared for me to send you flying." Throughout everyone's words Hawks was rolling his eyes and slumping his face. The generic P.R lines are the last thing the people need to hear right now. Somebody needs to speak what's on their mind, along with a hero's mindest. He was curious as to what ONE would say, but he needed to break the ice and bring some "Real", after all that's what ONE's basically been doing. He shot a look at the hero in question who smiled lightly at Mirko's words, clearly not surprised she'd say that.
She moved onto Best Jeanist, the hero fixed his styled hair, "The best denim can survive anything. No matter what comes ahead, heroes will be there to fight and protect."
Hawks couldn't take it anymore, "C'mon guys who wants to hear this generic crap? Stain maybe? Though I doubt he's watching." The entire building went quiet as a mouse with a mix of shock and confusion.
The top five heroes all turned to him, "You're fun as always, Hawks." Mirko commented with a smile.
"As always you love causing a commotion." Edgeshot added.
"No, Hawks just likes to pick and choose when to shoot staight." ONE said, shooting a glance at the Winged Hero who just smiled back at him, not denying his words at all.
"I just have a problem holding back sometimes." He went and took the pic from the announcer, "Okay so, if we're talking about popularity, ONE is ranked at the top because of course he is. Best Jeanist is runner up, I'm number three, thanks. Edgeshot is forth, and Endeavor sinks in a five, no need to continue." His winds began to flap and lift him off the ground, amazing the crowd. "To be honest with you, is the approval rating the most important number right now? Don't you think the charts should be overhauled? Don't you think we should change how we do things?" All eyes followed the hero who was flying above the stage. "Our great symbol is no more. At the critical junction why is everyone playing it so safe, enough with the rehashed P.R lines. Maybe we should start saying what's on our minds huh?" He turned to the new number one, "ONE, back me up here, man!"
"I was already planning on doing that."
His words spread throughout the crowd, Rock lock and Fat Gum were thrown off by what he said. "This kid was rolling his eyes earlier and now this.' Rock Lock said unamused.
"I honestly have no Idea what he's trying to achieve with this speech.' Fat Gum stated.
ONE looked up at Hawks, "Hawks, age 22. At 18 he established his own agency, and the second half of that year he was in the top ten, number 6. The youngest hero to crack it before the age of 20. "The man who moves too fast." ONE smiled lightly, "I guess those record setting accolades belong to me now, but they don't need to know that. But seriously, way to break the cycle, Hawks." The hero turned from the number three hero.
"Well that's all I've got to say." He lowered himself, his wings still flapping. "Now to hear from number two, who has a lower approval rating than I do."
Endeavor looked at him annoyed, while Hawks just gave him a smile. The Flame Hero took the mic and took a moment to think of what to say. So much has happened in the last few months, he'd realized his motivation and his goals as a hero had been wrong and shallow. He wanted the people to see the new Endeavor, he wanted to be better for his family and for the public that looked to all of them now that All Might was gone. More than making his family proud he wanted to make himself proud. He wanted to change, the person he's been all this time was the one who ruined his family. Rei needed a husband, Touya, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shoto needed a father, but instead of being that he chose to be a hero. That was probably the worst decision he's ever made, and that hero couldn't save any of them because of his own selfishness. Now he wanted to start fresh, he wanted to become something new, something better.
He spoke with All Might after ONE gave him his number and the two had a good talk, probably the first and only they've had since knowing each other. All Might told him that he didn't have to copy him, and find his own identity as the number one hero. Though it was temporary, he quickly learned what All Might meant by that, as it was his inaduquacy of catching him that made him into the person he is now. "Since this child chose to fan the flames, I won't say much." The hero clenched his fist, "Instead, just watch what I do." The crowd went silent as they registered his words. The only sound being Hawks clapping in approval at his words. ONE also couldn't help but smile at this, Endeavor was changing, and it was for the better. '
He handed the mic to ONE, the hero took it. He had an idea of what to say, but now that the mic was in his hands his thoughts shifted slightly. This was it, this was the moment where he stood in front of all of society and gave them the first exposure of the kind of number one hero he would be. All eyes were on him, he looked at the faces and could hear murmurs of people in the audience, many were excited, but most of them were curious of what he would say. "Still can't believe he's number one. Seems like yesterday we were trying to catch him for being a vigilante." A female hero said.
"It may as well have been yesterday. Because before we knew it he was independent and legal, now here we are." A male hero added.
Another female hero gripped her chin in thought, "The top approval rating I get, and his impact is unquestionable. But what about his cases? He's only been legal for a few months. He couldn't have solved enough to earn the top spot."
"I believe his major cases were the biggest contributor to his position. Think about it, The Kaiju in Yamanashi, The Storm, The Kamino Incident, The Alien Attack. If that isn't worthy of being number one then nothing is." A male hero explained.
"That was really cool on Endeavor's part. Hawks really laid it down, I wonder how he'll respond."
"I don't know. But this'll be his first address as number one."
ONE gathered his thoughts, opened his mouth, and the words came through his hero voice, "Since Hawks went through the trouble of breaking the ice, I'll speak my mind… Truth be told, a part of me was planning on bailing on this event, even now I don't see this a good use of my time. There are people I could be helping at the moment, but I'm pretty fast, so I can go to them once I'm finished here. The only reason I chose to come was because I knew how important it was for me to stand before society as the new number one." Looks of surprise formed on many people in the crowd, even on a few members of the P.S.C. "Thank you to all who supported me, I'm happy you see and have faith in a ordinay quirkless guy. That being said, I want to be clear to everyone watching, the title of number one hero means less than nothing to me." Shocked expressions and gasps reverberated throughout the audience.
Mirko looked at him with an accepting smile, while every pro on the stage looked at him just as shocked as the crowd, Hawks slightly less than the others. "If I'm being honest, before I put on the suit and became ONE, if you told me I'd be the number one hero in less than a year and a half, I'd have thought it was the greatest achievement. It meant I'd stand in the same place as All Might, as a quirkless nobody I never lost faith in my ability to one day take this spot. But here I am, after fighting, living, learning, and helping a lot of people. This spot couldn't feel more hollow and meaningless to the current me." He looked to his contemporaries in the top ten, "I mean look at the rankings? Everyone here is a strong, capable, first class hero, the best Japan has to offer at the moment. But in a broad sense, what does ranking us have to do anything? Besides saying "I've done this much, and this is how much people like me. And your ranking spot just means I've done more than you, and people like me more." I'm a hero, I care about helping and saving people in any way I can to the best of my abilities. I'm not here to compete with anyone."
"The Symbol Of Peace is gone, and I understand society is looking for a replacement. Without getting too deep into how I feel about the symbols function, I want to make it clear to everyone who can see and hear me, I am not a replacement for All Might. I do not want to be the new Symbol Of Peace. I know what you're thinking, "The symbol was great. It scared bad guys. I could smile because I never had to worry." But what do you say to someone that was alienated by the symbol?" These words caused a few murmurs among the crowd, "Don't misunderstand, for most of my life, All Might was my hero. But that doesn't change the fact that even if he lit the fire in me to be a hero, the symbol didn't do anything for me in this world built on quirks. Despite all the power I've gained, I'm still just one man. I can't solve the world's problems, and be what everyone wants me to be. If I tried, I'd only become something I never wanted to be."
"Let me be clear, I'm a hero. I want to save and help every person I can reach. As the number one hero, that's not going to change. It's what I've always done. And none of you better stand behind me or slack off just because I'm stronger. All of you should improve, work harder and get better. This is the time for society to depend on itself rather than just one person. If you call yourself a hero, then you already know what you have to do… " He smiled for the first time since he started speaking, "And what I have to do.. Is to investigate some things that I've heared." He turned to Hawks and Mirko, giving them both a knowing look. They both nodded back, clearly getting his message.
"Sorry if that was a little long. I'm not staying for the meet and greet by the way." He tossed the mic to the announcer who barely managed to catch it. The new number one hero then turned and left the stage. Mirko followed after him with Hawks doing the same.
Hawks patted Endeavor's back and locked eyes with the hero, "You might want to join in for this." He said before following the other two. The Flame Hero thought about it, registering everything ONE had said. His expression was neutral as he thought about everything, he wasn't even able to be mad at ONE anymore for calling the number one hero spot meaningless. Before he knew it he was following the rest of the heroes to the back to talk. There was silence as the heroes left the stage, no one attempting to stop them or saying anything. As this was happening the P.S.C executives watched intently at this, the significance of this event had been completely undermined by ONE. They wanted this to be an event that would show the strength and importance of heroes to comfort the public, but their top hero deemed his position meaningless. How do they recover from that?
They'd spent all this time maintaining the peace All Might created, methods be damned, they were the ones who preserved the peace heroes in the spotlight fought for. "That's a rather interesting fellow." A sleepy eyed Mera commented.
"Intersting isn't exactly the word I would use." His boss said with her arms crossed, "He basically just degregated the pro hero rankings to a meaningless popularity contest."
He turned to the woman, "Isn't it though?"
"That's not the point." The woman sighed, "First day and he's already making our job more difficult than All Might ever did."
U.A Teacher Dorm
The sunken eyes of All Might went wide after seeing ONE's address, he lowered his head, wishing he could be surprised by all this. The former hero let out a deep sigh, "Well, you're making your own way as the number one hero. That's fine and everything, ONE, but you could use a little more tact. That was far too direct. In the grand scheme of things he's not wrong. But still… This is some way to announce you're the top hero." Thoughts of the independent hero ran through his mind, "You want to change things don't you? To be the example I never could be. It's shameful in hindsight I realized what I should have focused on as the Symbol Of Peace. People can't just smile through all their problems, though he was taught that that was the sign of the strongest. "Hmm, this is a new beginning for not just you, but hero society. ONE… I'm okay this, be good ONE…Be better than me."
And that ends chapter 38. Izuku has accepted being number one, but it seems others will need some time to understand the kind of number one he will be. Bakugo is getting worse, Orochi has been found and a villain biography is pretty popular at the moment. Kurogiri has been captured and is in custody. What mysteries will be received from that? ONE Knows about Gigantomachia, he almost broke through to the villain, the seeds have been sowed and there's no turning back. Come back next time to see what comes next. Leave a review because I want to hear your opinions! Next time, High Ends attack in Kyushu, Dabi appears and his words interest ONE, ONE sits down with the Public Safety Commission, and a publishing company reaches out to ONE. See you next time.
