The Cathar sat alone within the mines. The shadows concealing her form as she worked. Within her grasp laid a datapad, the body showing heavy signs of use, dents and pieces missing from the sides and back, as the screen carried a massive crack that ran diagonal.
"Amazing this thing still works." she mused. When she had first stolen it, she had expected it to be beyond repair. Thankfully, the internals still functioned enough for the thing to power on, even if it was just barely functioning.
Her slender fingers ran across the screen, swiping through various files and pages of things that held no interest to her. What she needed was a clue on what the prison was doing and how to exploit it. With another swipe, she paused halfway down the list of announcements. "This could be something."
To All Medical Staff,
As you are aware, we will be receiving a shipment of experimental drugs shortly. Due to its highly volatile nature, we caution you to use extreme caution in handling this material, as it could be fatal to you and others if exposed. So, we strongly encourage you to start running tests on the undesirable inmates, and other unruly rabble.
Signed
Warden Trace
"Experimental drugs?" She muttered under her breath. That could be the ticket out of here. She just needed to acquire a sample and infect the warden with it. With any luck, it would make him more pliable for her needs. Still, she better keep looking for something else in case the first plan fails.
Hours passed by as she continued scrolling through the endless amount of messages. Few things caught her attention, something about guard injuries , pay disputes, even rumors of a new Moff being promoted from amongst the so called common folk, nothing really of use. That was until there was talk about a secret project being housed within the prison. Details were spotty at best, with the only real information being that only a select few were assigned to it.
She needed her answers, but decided it could wait until morning. If things went her way, she and her pet could make their escape within the next couple of days, she just needed to recruit a thief.
"You want me to find out where this secret project is?" The male couldn't believe what he was hearing. Sure, he figured she would come up with something, but to expect him to find a project that most of the prison didn't know about was asinine in his eyes. "Where would I even start?"
"You must have seen something in your short time here. Just think about it, cutie." She spoke so reassuringly, as if she expected him to pull this off, even if the male doubted himself. "Besides, I also need you to find someone for another task, one I'm afraid that neither of us can do."
"That task being?"
"I need a thief, one that's capable of breaking into the medical wing."
"And why can't you do it?'
"Simple, if I showed up, they would likely dispose of it. I'm not exactly well liked within these halls."
"Fine, I think I know just the person." He sighed under his breath, not exactly liking the person he was thinking of, especially not after their initial encounter.
The main hall was nearly empty at this time of day, the bulk of the inmates were either down in the mines, or another part of the prison, not like she minded. The Amaran sat with her back towards the fountain, the tip of her vulpine tail breaching the surface of the water, within her hands was nestled a small flask, a certain dark liquid within. She let out a sigh of satisfaction, content with her meager existence.
"Mind if I join you?"
She chose not to respond, her tail and body twitching from irritation. "How dare he ask such a stupid question." she thought. Not only had he stolen what she craved, but now he had the audacity to speak to her in such a friendly manner.
"I have a proposition for you."
Still no response from the fox. In fact, she turned away from him, arms folding across her chest.
"If you would just listen, I think we can both benefit from this."
The fox had no intention of speaking to this human, a fact she made ever so clear when she flicked the tip of her tail, flinging droplets of water onto the man. A sign she had hoped would get the message across.
"Fine, you can have this."
Something had landed in the female's lap, something hard and round. She opened one of her eyes and looked down at the object, her face lighting up as she caught sight of the Glauve. The fruit was greedily snapped up into her hands, her nose sniffing the skin, drool practically trailing from her mouth.
She supposed she could talk to him now, so she spoke in a way that feigned interest. "Okay, what do you want?"
"I need you to steal something for me."
"Steal?" she repeated. She couldn't believe what he was asking her. Sure, she was a good thief, but she didn't exactly apply her skill for the benefit of others. "And, why should I do that?"
"Well, it could get you out of here."
"It could?" she scoffed. "I need a more substantial answer then that. Should isn't good enough, it needs to be a guarantee. In fact, I want you to sweeten the deal."
"Okay, fine." he growled out of a bit of annoyance. "If you manage to acquire the product, I'll make sure you will escape with us. On top of that, I'll make sure to give you those Glauves on a near daily basis."
She hummed to herself, acting as if the offer didn't interest her in the slightest. "Fine, you have yourself a deal, human. Now, lets seal the deal with a drink.
Clutching the fruit in one hand, she lifted the flask in the other and brought it to her lips and took a drink of the liquid inside. A shiver going up her spine as she drank from it deeply, before handing it over to the human. To her surprise, he took it.
The male took a quick sniff at the opening, and took a quick drink. His eyes lit up at the sweet, yet spicy concotion that met his lips. He quickly took another drink, finishing half of the flask before he realized it.
"This is ne'tra gal." he spoke between sips of the ale. "How did you get this?"
"You know of it?" she gasped aloud. Never had she expected to find someone who knew of her favorite drink. It wasn't exactly rare, but few places stocked it due to its origin.
"Of course I know of it. I've been drinking this since I was young."
He almost frowned as he found the flask being taken away from him, having forgotten it wasn't his to begin with. The last bit of the ale leaving its confines as the female finished it off. A smile on her face, she began to walk off, giving the male a wave. "Guess I best be getting started. I expect you to hold your end of the bargain."
