On two Thanksgiving days, Liam Darcy copes with the tragedy of his mom's death, his father's drunkenness and then his father's suicide with some help from Simon and Garfunkel, hardening his heart as inspired by the folk song, "I Am A Rock." While this helps him to cope now, we all know this won't do him any favors later. One shot for now.

29/12/1811 Fitzwilliam Darcy is drunk and alone and he decides to write a letter to Miss Elizabeth Bennet. The next morning he is hungover and visited by Colonel Fitzwilliam, and the butler, while bringing him his morning coffee, informs he posted the letter by express as he asked. The trouble is, her father is the one that reads it.

A 'what if' story. What if Colonel Fitwilliam's comments about marriage and fortune had compelled Elizabeth to think more deeply about her family's situation? How might this affect her response when Mr Darcy offers her his hand in marriage? Rated T for later chapters. (Rating may go up.)

February of 1812 brings startling news to Longbourn; a distant relation has died, leaving Elizabeth Bennet a fortune. And what of Mr. Darcy, who left Hertfordshire to escape his attraction to Miss Elizabeth? Will her fortune pull them together, or drive them apart? Note: story is being taken down on Oct 24, 2023.

The story stalled, and after struggling a while, I started the story over. Much will remain the same, but some will vary. Let me know what you think. Elizabeth is not a Bennet. Darcy rescues her from the Bennets, who attempt to use her for their own purposes.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Vulcans are in complete control of their emotions. I will now relate to you a series of anecdotes which suggest this theory to be, to use a human colloquialism, utter bullshit. This is the story about how I, Commander William Darcy, fell in love with Captain Elizabeth Bennet.
