Merlin decides to do things his way, so ignoring the Dragon and Gaius, he makes his decision to not follow orders. He is going to help Morgana.

Except this time, Merlin gets mortally wounded and Arthur has to helplessly watch his best friend bleed out on the forest floor. As he is hauled away to be ransomed, Arthur is haunted by two thoughts: One, Merlin is dead. Two, this is all his fault.

Four weeks into Merlin's apprenticeship, an injured man walks into the infirmary and Merlin, oblivious to the fact it's the Prince, treats him like a fellow peasant. The two of them strike up a rather unconventional friendship.
