Arthur's worried about Merlin. The servant's been off for a while now, and he won't tell the prince why. So when Arthur comes across his journal, he begins to read it, hoping to discover what's plaguing Merlin. Instead, he finds out his servant's been hiding more than what's upsetting him (a sort of "watching the show" fic). Meanwhile, Morgana stirs. BAMF!Merlin

Merlin takes pity on a slave boy visiting Camelot with his cruel Master and vows to help him. I took bit of artistic license with historical details. For instance, gunpowder was not introduced until at least 400 years after King Arthur, but since it has already been used in an episode in Season 5, I figured it would be alright. It is only a story, after all.

After the events of S4, the news reaches Camelot that Morgana is alive and well and escaped her captivity of Sarrum. As Arthur and Merlin fall into a trap, Merlin finds himself setting a journey to the Isle of the Blessed with Morgana.

A "shortcut" home leads the gang into a dangerous forest that tries to kill them at every turn.

In a modern AU, Merlin and Arthur, sixteen-year-old best friends and neighbors, decide to go sledding. But Merlin feels more for Arthur than he lets on.
