This is a prologue that you don't have to read, but at the very least I recommend that you read the two disclaimers at the end of this section before the story begins.
I'm glad that you've clicked on the link to this story. You're probably wondering why this is even in the section of Mega Man Star Force, especially if the title references something entirely different. Allow me to explain.
When I started writing this story, I was a sophomore in college who had just happened upon a YouTube video from a content creator that used a song that sparked a strong feeling of nostalgia within me. For the life of me, I could not place this song, knowing it came from a game that I played during my childhood. I eventually figured out that it was in fact the original Mega Man Star Force game theme.
After figuring out the origin of the song, I felt compelled to break out my old games and completely play through them. Despite recognizing the child's perspective that the game's storytelling takes place from, I couldn't help but be amazed by some of the powerful topics that the story of the game covers and loved every second of my playthrough. It provided a great way to fill the spare time that fell upon me throughout the pandemic.
I found myself constantly wanting more, watching the two seasons of the anime for Star Force, playing through all the Battle Network games, and watching that anime as well. I picked up reading fanfics of both SF and BN and found some great ones. After a few months of satisfying my content craving, I constantly wanted to continue to fill that void that remained after consuming all the related content I could find. Throughout my content consumption, I realized one key item: the topics that MMSF covers are mature in theory, but they are told from a very innocent perspective. I think that MMSF could have been so much more than it already is if it could have been adapted for a more mature audience.
I don't mean to come off as if I'm criticizing the games – honestly, they are some of my favorites and will always hold a special place in my heart because of the amazing times they gave me. I also don't think I could change the series at all; it achieved its purpose for its intended audience, and the discontinuation of the franchise was likely rooted in the oversaturation of related games in the market. Nonetheless, I wanted more content to consume, but the well of resources seemed to dry up. Enter this story: Meteor Man.
The goal here is to create a story like MMSF and based upon the lore in the game, but more mature and with new characters. I believe this would be an interesting approach and might make for a great read for someone who was in my boat.
Now, here I am 3 years later, finally pushing this story out. It isn't completed, but I'm hoping that undertaking the process of uploading what large chunk I have written thus far will motivate me to continue with the rest. Here's to hoping I'm able to do everything I'd like to achieve with this story. I hope you enjoy it and make sure to let me know what you think in the comments if you give it a read!
Disclaimer 1: There are many concepts and characters in this story that are from Mega Man Star Force, which in its entirety is owned by Capcom. I do not own those ideas but will be using them in this story (wave changing, wave beings, the AM sages, the Visualizer, etc.).
Disclaimer 2: I have changed the mechanics of the "visible zone" described in the games – this story will: 1) allow wave beings to be seen whenever they allow themselves to be seen, and 2) make it so that wave-changed beings are always visible to humans.
