AN: Hey everyone! Welcome to my first ever Super Koopalings short! Now, you're probably wondering; what is a Super Koopalings short? Well, it's just a simple oneshot taking place in the Super Koopalings universe. That's basically the extent of it lol. I have a few SK shorts planned, and this one in particular is one that I have been wanting to write for… well, years. It was one of the first ideas I had regarding Super Koopalings. And now that we are in the Christmas season, I figured it would be nice to publish it.
Anyway, onto the show!
Larry took a deep breath. He looked down at the big, burlap sack he had been carrying, biting his lip as he did. His gaze traveled to the door, resting closed right in front of him. This door led to the common room, where all his siblings were waiting for him and Roy to enter and anticipating the gifts that the two were going to hand out. He could feel the suspense hanging in the air, looming over him like a dark, dismal shadow.
"Well," Roy said. He smiled, which to Larry indicated that he wasn't nearly as emotionally distraught. "You ready for this?"
Larry cringed. "I don't know, man," he said with a slight shake of the head. "I mean…" he got another glance of the sack, knowing that once the contents was taken out, things were bound to hit the fan. "You and I both know that these gifts aren't exactly the greatest." He looked up at his brother. "Maybe we shouldn't hand these out…"
"Dude," Roy said. "You need to relax!" His smile grew bigger, which unfortunately didn't do anything when it came to cheering Larry up. "They're gonna love these gifts! Sure, they aren't the most expensive… or the most thoughtful… or the most appealing…" his face fell for a brief second before rising back up. "But that doesn't mean anything! It isn't about the quality of the gift; it's about how you give it! If we approach this situation with confidence, then the others won't even think twice about what they're getting!"
Larry cringed again while he processed what Roy was trying to say. "I don't think that's how it works…"
"Oh, bro!" Roy took a step forward. He put his hand on Larry's shoulder, a gesture that was meant to be reassuring… and actually was, surprisingly enough. "It's okay. I know we can do this."
Larry paused for a minute, considering everything. He really didn't know if anything would be able to convince his siblings that these were good gifts. But… well, giving them to all five of them would be an expression of love. And considering that it is usually the thought that counts…
"You're right." Larry put on a smile. "You're right! We just have to act confident!"
"That's the spirit!" Roy exclaimed.
With that, they opened the door. Larry let out a breath and picked up the sack, wearing a smile that mirrored Roy's own expression. This was going to be fine! And even if it wasn't, they could always look back on this as a funny Koopsmas story! So, there were no worries either way.
"Ho ho ho!" Roy exclaimed as he closed the door. "We are elves from the mythical Sherbet Land! And we have come to give you all a Merry Koopsmas!"
"That we have!" Larry said as he set the sack back down on the ground. He took note of his siblings' faces; they all looked decently excited. The expressions they wore were very similar to how they looked when Larry and Roy first revealed to them that they were going to buy everyone Koopsmas presents this year. For a second, Larry's doubt returned upon seeing this, as he could already picture how disappointed they were going to be. However, he just as quickly pushed it to the side. "We have only the best types of gifts for the lot of you!"
Wendy sat up straight. "Well, you can count me as excited!"
"Indubitably!" said Iggy as he adjusted his glasses. "I know I expressed this viewpoint before, but the fact that you guys have decided to do this this year is nice in all the right ways!"
Larry chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "Well… it's good that you say that Iggy." He smiled once again. "Because your gift is the first one we're gonna hand out!"
Iggy beamed. He leaned forward as Larry dug into the bag, letting out little giggles like he did when he was extremely excited. However, when Larry pulled out his gift and handed it over, all excitement he had (as well as any semblance of excitement the others had) completely vanished.
"Shoelaces?" Iggy asked as he took his gift. He looked down at them with a dropped jaw before looking back at Larry and Roy. "I don't even own a pair of shoes…"
Larry cringed both externally and internally. "Darn it, Roy!" he whispered, almost hissing. "I told you we should've gotten him shoes!"
Roy chuckled nervously. "Yeah, that was a pretty big oversight…" the smile somehow returned to his face, which honestly made him look a little insincere. "But that's okay, Iggy! You're really smart; you can probably design and build some shoes of your own! So, either way, it's a win, eh?"
Iggy looked back down at the shoelaces. "Um… thanks, I guess?" He stashed them away in his hammerspace, all while looking supremely uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, the discomfort Iggy displayed rubbed off on Larry. He started to sweat, already fearing the reactions the others would have. He wanted to bail out right here and now and go buy some proper Koopsmas presents. However… well, he had already started handing these ones out. As much as he wanted to, he couldn't back down now.
"Uh, anyway…" he tried to grin as he looked at the next sibling. "Morton, you're next!"
Morton perked up a little bit. "Oh?"
"Yep!" Roy said as Larry reached back into the bag. "Now, we know how much you like food and the culinary arts, so we decided to get you something along those lines. And that something…" Larry pulled the gift out right as Roy finished. "Is a fruitcake!"
Much to Larry's delight, Morton actually managed to smile when he heard this. This created an interesting contrast to the looks of disgust the others gave.
"A fruitcake?" Ludwig asked. "You mean the winner of the 'Worst Cake of All Time' award?"
Morton chuckled as Larry handed him the fruitcake. "Actually, I kind of like the flavor of fruitcake." He started to open it. "Sure, I wouldn't call it a top tier cake, but I still have nostalgic connections to…"
The second the fruitcake was out of its packaging, Morton stopped talking. He sniffed his gift. "Oh. Oh man!" He put his hand to his nose while the others sniffed the fruitcake. They all had the same reaction when they smelled it.
"Geez Louise!" Lemmy said while pinching his snout. "How old is that thing?" Morton looked to find the expiration date. When he did, and when Lemmy saw it, his eyes grew wide. "Holy moly! This expired before I was born!"
"Forget that; this expired before Bowser was born!" said Ludwig. He gagged, the sound unpleasant to Larry in all the wrong ways.
"Oh," Roy said. He scratched the back of his head. "I guess that's what we get for shopping in the bargain bin." He chuckled, with Larry joining in for a reason he couldn't even fully name. The others gave them disgusted looks before Roy waved his hand. "But that's neither here nor there!" He looked right at Lemmy. "Lems, I think you're next!"
Despite his disgust and disappointment over the previous gifts, Lemmy's eyes actually sparkled. "Ooh!" He started bouncing up and down in his seat. "What'd you get me?"
"Oh you're gonna love this," Roy said. Larry rummaged around in the bag. "We got you…" Larry pulled the gift out. "A sock monkey!"
Lemmy gasped, the sound attached to the most positive emotion felt in this room. "Oh, thank you guys!" Lemmy laughed, giving the sock monkey a giant bear hug as Larry handed it over. "Mmmm… I love it so much!" He laughed some more, stopping with hugging the plush to get a good look at it. His face fell a little once he did. "You know, this kind of looks like a sock monkey I lost two weeks ago." He picked up the foot and held it in front of his eyes. "And it… has my initials in the exact… same… place…"
Both Larry and Roy froze. The saddened look that Lemmy gave them made his heart pump extra hard. There was really only one thing to do in order to not have to think about it.
"Uh, Ludwig! How about we open yours next!" Larry said.
"Oh, yeah!" Roy said. This time, Roy was the one to rummage through the bag. Despite everything, Larry smiled once Roy got the gift and handed it over. "Ludwig, this is for you!"
Ludwig raised an eyebrow, possibly looking the most disappointed out of the five. "Wow. A brick." He slowly grabbed it and directed his incredulous expression to his brothers. "How did you possibly know?"
"Not just a brick!" Larry said. "Go on; open it up!"
Ludwig blinked. Without any other words, he punched the power-up block on the bottom to get the prize inside. When he saw it, his eyes grew wide. He then closed them, clearly doing his best to hide the ire he currently felt.
"Soap?" he asked.
"Soap! We got you soap!" Larry said, trying his best to sound excited and confident.
"Yeah!" said Roy. "You can use it for cleaning all sorts of things, like your hair, your face, your nethers…!"
Ludwig did a double take. "Oh, really?" There was so much hurt in his face that it was honestly impressive. He looked at the soap. "I always wanted something to clean my nethers." He faked a smile as he looked back at the two gift givers. "Thank you for being so thoughtful." He dropped the soap with a plop, glaring at Larry and Roy.
This look from Ludwig made Larry's stomach squirm. Oh, this really isn't going well. He almost didn't even want to give Wendy her gift. He didn't even know what that gift was, as Roy had been the one who bought it. However, before he could express his hesitance to Roy, the burly koopa gasped and looked right at their sister.
"Oh! Wendy, that means you're last!" His eyes twinkled like the lumas at the Comet Observatory. He even giggled, excitement leaking out of him in every way possible. "You are so gonna love this gift, sis!"
Wendy squirmed a little in her seat. "I am?"
"Oh yeah!" Roy reached into the bag, pulling out what looked like a pink T-shirt to Larry. "I saw this in the store and thought 'Oh, I bet my little sister is going to love this!"
Wendy sat still for a minute before smiling a little bit. "Huh. Well, it does look nice." She slowly took it, her smile growing brighter. "It's pink too; I love pink."
"I know you do!" Roy practically shouted. "Plus, there's writing on the front! Why don't you read it!"
Wendy blinked before unfurling the shirt so she could see the front. "Santa left me this extra-large shirt under the tree this year. On it, he attached a handwritten note…" Wendy seized up. For a split second, a look of absolute horror appeared on her face before swiftly being followed by misty, wet eyes. "That said… 'Might wanna lay off those cookies, Fatso.'"
The four other guys groaned, a response that Larry didn't blame them for in the slightest. "Oh, really?" Iggy said, looking at Roy with disgust.
"What? It's funny!" Roy looked back at Wendy. "You think it's funny, right Wen?"
Wendy didn't respond. Her breathing grew more labored, the tears in her face grew more pronounced. Within no time at all, she got up from the couch and ran out of the common room, bawling in the most miserable way possible.
This just left Larry and Roy. They exchanged a look before turning back to their brothers, who all gave them looks of the utmost contempt. Both of them chuckled nervously, with Larry wishing he had the ability to vanish from existence.
"I'm never getting you guys Koopsmas presents again," Ludwig said.
AN: Well, there we go! I hope you guys all enjoyed this oneshot! I hope you all have a happy holiday! :)
