Chapter 1 – Arrival.
'A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.' – Joseph Campbell.
"Books and refreshments – check. Picnic basket is filled up and ready for my little outing. Seems like everything is in order. Well, Twilight – time to hit the open road and find some peace to read my books. Spike, don't wait up for me and behave while I'm gone!"
Stepping out through the door and taking in the fresh air, Twilight couldn't help but smile at what would be another beautiful day – a perfect occasion for her to catch up on her reading. "And here's to another wonderful day in Ponyville." She commented before closing the door and continuing down the road towards the local park where she could catch up on her reading.
Hopefully by the time that she is back Spike will be done with his chores and make sure that her home isn't burning… as much as she loved her assistant/brother-like figure there were times when he could be a big hassle to handle though she wouldn't admit to him for real.
Though what was she thinking? Spike is a pretty responsible person – he can handle himself for a couple of hours. Plus, Owlowiscious was there as well. What was the worst that could happen?
Twilight decided on not thinking about it too much and instead focus on other things – like the books that she planned to read once she got over to the park. One that interested her the most as of late – a legend about a mystical weapon and the light/darkness. For this reason, she needed to be alone in order to read the book properly.
"Twilight! Yo!" A familiar tomboy-styled voice called out next to Twilight who then felt a slap on the shoulders. The girl with sapphire blue hair with its purple-raspberry streaks nearly jumped before turning around and glaring at the culprit responsible for startling her – Rainbow Dash.
"R-rainbow! You almost gave me a heart attack!" She told her yet the rainbow-haired girl with cerise eyes just chuckled. "Aww, lighten up Egghead! I was just gonna wish you a good morning."
Twilight somehow doubted that this was Rainbow's intentions but didn't say a word and instead just sighed. "Good morning to you then, Rainbow." She wished her.
Her violet-colored eyes noticed that she was wearing her usual light blue t-shirt, a pair of medium-dark shorts, white socks and sneakers. Guess she is out on her morning exercise or something else…
"So… what's my best-best buddy Twilight up to today?" Rainbow inquired but Twilight was silent since she was contemplating what to do – should she say anything about her plans to Rainbow or just keep silent and come up with an excuse?
She didn't want to lie but she was really eager to read the books in her possession and truth be told she definitely needed some peace and quiet. Guess its latter option with the excuse – she didn't really need Rainbow butting in on- Wha-? HEY!
Rainbow got impatient in waiting to see what Twilight's response was and immediately grabbed the basket with the stuff for the outing at the park. "Ooh! What's this?" She inquired while rummaging through the basket much to Twilight's alarm.
"Rainbow! Don't touch my belongings!" Twilight demanded while running onward to grab her basket only for Rainbow to dodge out the way easily which resulted in the sapphire-blue haired individual crashing onto the ground.
Seconds later, Rainbow pulled out a book from the basket and immediately grinned at Twilight. "Ah-ha! I knew it! Going to read like the egghead you truly are!" She admitted as Twilight blushed in embarrassment and looked away.
This act made Rainbow crash onto the ground and laughing while holding that book that took out from the basket. Eventually, she released it only to be picked back up by an annoyed/embarrassed Twilight who pocketed it back and dusted herself off. "Look, Rainbow… I'm rather busy right now so if you don't mind…" She told her and hoped that her friend would get the message and just leave her in peace.
But that wasn't the case since Rainbow got up and wiped a tear away due to all that incessant laughing a second ago. "Aww, come on, Twi. I was only kidding… sorry about rummaging through your personal belongings but I had to know what my best bud is doing." She told her with a sly smile which made Twilight sigh heavily.
"I just wanna get to the park and read in peace. I've found a really interesting book that I wanna read WITHOUT interruptions… yet SOMEONE keeps me from doing that." Twilight stated with a hint of annoyance in her tone due to Rainbow interrupting her earlier and rummaging through her basket.
It took a minute or two for Rainbow to respond and when she did, she went with a simple. "Oooooh." – Seems like she had gotten the message… maybe.
"Can I come and learn what's it about?" Rainbow asked which made Twilight's jaw dropped. Did she even hear what was told to her? Wait…
"YOU wanna come and learn what my book is about? I thought you weren't interested in all the things that I read – you only the Daring Do series!" Twilight told her yet Rainbow just shrugged. "Well, yeah… but that doesn't mean I'm not interesting in other books – as long as they are just like Daring Do." She explained.
At this point Twilight only wanted to crawl into a corner and stay in there for the rest of her days since Rainbow's explanation literally destroyed her brain. 'As long as they are just like Daring Do.'!? Is that all she can think about!?
"But- but- but-" Twilight didn't finish and instead just sighed heavily – her perfect morning was becoming a nightmare already. Ugh… why couldn't she just keep her mouth and move on without explaining things? Now how is she supposed to read her book about the legends and what- Wait… legends… that meant adventure…
Maybe… just maybe… there was a way she could salvage this along with making Rainbow get more interested in other genres besides Daring Do. Perfect!
With a plan in her mind, Twilight couldn't help but smile devilishly. "Alright, Rainbow. You can come and learn what my book is about." These words made Rainbow pump her fist in victory. "YES!" She admitted only to be interrupted by Twilight. "But on one condition." She told her which made Rainbow frown. "Ugh… you and your conditions, Twi… what is it?" The rainbow-haired girl questioned.
"You have to behave and if you ask any questions, they must be related to the book that we'll be examining – no distractions… and Daring Do especially!" Twilight explained but Rainbow gasped in surprise upon hearing those terms – especially Daring Do.
"Wha- But-but-but!" Rainbow protested only for Twilight to smile smugly. "Those are the rules, Rainbow. Either you accept them or you don't come with me to the park." She stated.
Rainbow's protest continued for another minute until she groaned and crossed her arms. "You win… I'll behave. So long as the book is good." She told her.
Twilight smiled at this small victory – her perfect day would be saved after all. "It will be… now come on – we're burning daylight."
(Ponyville Park – Minutes Later…)
The walk to the park wasn't that long and in no time, Twilight and Rainbow had arrived and immediately set up their little picnic outing. Although, the sapphire-blue haired individual didn't want to admit it, she was glad that at least there was someone to keep her company even if she wanted to read the book that she had brought with her alone.
Both girls helped in setting up the picnic blanket and refreshments in case either of them got thirsty/peckish. Rainbow even commented that they made a good team which made Twilight roll her eyes as she sat down. "Well… now that we are here, it's time we finally focus on the book. Remember – you are still holding your end of the bargain." Twilight reminded her as Rainbow pouted and crossed her arms before she sat down next to her friend.
"Yeah, yeah… let's just get started before boredom overtakes me and I leave." Rainbow warned her yet Twilight smirked devilishly. "You gave your word, Dashie. You ain't leaving until we are done." She replied which only made Rainbow pout some more.
Twilight was satisfied and took out the book from her basket. "Now then… this book will definitely be to your liking, Dash. Its not exactly Daring Do… but it does feature information about legends, adventure, danger… things that fit your persona quite well, wouldn't you say?" She asked as Rainbow looked at her with a curious expression. "You're joking, right? Please tell me you are joking." The rainbow-haired girl hoped that her friend was indeed joking.
But that wasn't the case since Twilight shook her head with a small smile. "No joke. Apparently, the small info that I read about in this book is interesting – to say the least. It depicts stuff about a weapon of sorts; mystical heroes that wield it… and a war." She explained but her words made Rainbow's eyes got wide in surprise.
"Whoa…" She commented impressively as Twilight's smile didn't leave her lips. "Indeed. You see, Rainbow – there's more to books than just Daring Do stuff. Still wanting to leave due to your 'boredom'?" The librarian inquired but Rainbow shook her head.
"Nope! You've got my attention – so what shall we start with first?" Rainbow inquired as Twilight continued to smile – give the athlete/adventurer something interesting to hear and he/she's bound to listen.
Twilight flipped a couple of pages and got to the interesting part – the legendary weapon. "We'll start with this – it's about the legendary weapon called the 'Keyblade'. A mysterious tool that has been used by both good… and evil. Nobody knows where it came from or how it was formed but according to the information written in this book: originally, the weapons were forged from something called the χ-blade which was lost many centuries ago. And here is what a Keyblade usually looks like." The librarian girl stopped speaking as she showed Rainbow illustrated drawings or pictures of the mystical weapon – some were shaped like swords while others were crafted in the forms of the earthly elements.
Needless to say, Rainbow was definitely impressed and secretly intrigued. "Whoa… so the name – its like a cross between a key and a blade? Strange…" She commented but Twilight just shrugged. "That's what written in the book. I'm not the one who wrote it…" She explained just as Rainbow returned it into Twilight's hands.
One question remained in the rainbow-haired individual's mind. "Say, Twi… that something-blade that was lost… any idea where it could have disappeared to?" She asked but Twilight shook her head before continuing on ahead.
"There are many ways that one could receive a Keyblade – either inheritance; forging or having a very strong heart." Twilight explained to Rainbow who then had another question in her mind. "Say, Twi… is it possible for either you or I to wield Keyblades? Maybe the rest of our friends?"
"That's what I was thinking as well… in theory, its possible… but I'm not sure. It's just a legend… though it would be amazing to have a Keyblade… so many possibilities to study and find out what it is like to be a wielder!" She stated excitedly while Rainbow just groaned and shook her head.
A minute after Twilight calmed down, she turned the pages of the book towards the next interesting topic. "This chapter focuses on something called the Keyblade War. As it turns out: In the age of fairy tales, there used to exist a great and powerful entity whose light shinned upon the universe and its worlds. Unfortunately, people began to desire the light for themselves and darkness was introduced… hence why the so-called Keyblade War began. Many lives were lost and the great entity was swallowed by the darkness – never to surface again. Speaking of that, the χ-blade was the protector of this great entity and in the end, it was shattered into twenty pieces – 7 of light and 13 of darkness. The worlds were doomed to failure only to be restored thanks to the light within the hearts of children… over the centuries, many wielders protected and gave their lives to ensure that no one would misuse the great entity for power or greed ever again." She finished explained as Rainbow was at a loss for words.
"Wow… seems like it wasn't such a happy time for those people who lost their lives in that war." She commented with a somber tone as Twilight nodded grimly. "Yeah… also, notice that the war mentioned the universe and its worlds? It seems like we aren't alone, Rainbow." She told her friend who was once more impressed upon hearing those words.
"Wait, wait… are you saying that there are other worlds besides Equestria?" Rainbow asked in astonishment yet Twilight scratched her head in reluctance. "Not really certain… since it's just a legend of sorts. But if there are other worlds out there… it would be amazing! Can you imagine it?" She asked her friend who nodded excitedly.
"Aww, yeah! There could be worlds filled with mystery, adventure and danger – just like with Daring Do! Does it explain how one can get to these outside worlds?" Rainbow inquired.
"I kept researching about that yet hit a snag unfortunately… if there are ways to travel to outside worlds, then the book doesn't explain it… I'll have to recheck in the library." Twilight replied but her words made Rainbow pout which didn't go unnoticed by her friend.
"Rainbow, it's just a legend… it might not even be real. As much as I want it to be…" Twilight explained in the hopes that it might get Rainbow to cheer up a bit.
The rainbow-haired individual continued to pout before sighing heavily. "I know, I know… it's just… I kinda of wish that this legend would be real… maybe then we'd have a chance to see what exactly the Keyblade is like… or these outside worlds." She said to Twilight who just smiled and patted her friend's shoulder.
"Well, as they say… never-say-never." Twilight advised as Rainbow rolled her eyes but smiled, nevertheless. "Yeah… and I guess I do owe you credit – some books can be… interesting." She admitted rather quietly but it wasn't enough for Twilight who heard everything and grinned.
Rainbow Dash was admitting it? Yes! Total victory for her!
"But not interesting enough as Daring Do. Say, can I examine the book for cool pictures of adventurers or these worlds?" Rainbow requested.
Twilight didn't see any harm and gave her the book. "Knock yourself out but be careful… I still wanna read for my research. Want something to eat and drink?" She asked but Rainbow shook her head. "Nah, Twi. You can go ahead and refresh yourself while I read the book." After finishing her sentence, she delved straight into the book and its pages while Twilight grab a sandwich and some water.
At least she could get some peace and quiet while refreshing herself – Rainbow would be busy with the book for a while so this gave her the opportunity to think for herself: mainly about the things that were just explained.
The outside worlds; Keyblade War; the entity; Keyblade… so much information and research if the information wasn't a legend. If it was real… oh, boy – Twilight would be in Heaven right now.
Hmm… come to think of it, does Princess Celestia or Luna know about this? Are they aware of this 'Keyblade' or the 'entity'? Probably since they have years of experiences with legends and stories…
Perhaps she should write a letter to them one of these days to see what they know? It's just a legend but Twilight couldn't help but wonder if it is real or just someone's writing to make the book more interesting…
The librarian was enjoying her meal and drink when…
"Hey, Twi… what's up with these mumbo-jumbo words on the final page of this book?" Rainbow's voice inquired as Twilight looked at her with a confusing look.
"Mumbo-jumbo words?" She asked as Rainbow gave her the book to take a look for herself.
True to her friend's word, the final page described a very particular set of words that made no sense to Twilight as well. She thought that this must be a prank that the author had written and immediately came to the conclusion that it must be fake.
"It's just someone pulling a prank, Dash… don't believe everything you read. You were definitely right when you said that this is mumbo-jumbo. I mean, listen to this:
'Ancient words ever true'
'Changing me and changing you'
'We have come with open hearts to you'
'So please… bring forth our hero in this time of saving!'
Needless to say, Rainbow resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "Who writes this exactly? These mumbo-jumbo words don't make any-" She didn't finish due to an earthquake happening along with a blinding light appearing.
"Ah!" Rainbow yelled in pain.
"My eyes!" Twilight yelled as well.
The earthquake continued for a minute and then it stopped just as the blinding light faded out. Needless to say, Twilight and Rainbow were utterly lost and confused.
"Whoa! What the heck was that!? Twi, was just happening!?" Rainbow demanded the answer yet Twilight was on the same mind as well.
"I have no idea! Ugh, my eyes… they feel like someone just microwaved them… Ugh…" She stated while rubbing her eyelids.
Rainbow in the meantime just looked around to see if what exactly went down. "Think its someone from Ponyville playing a prank?" She asked.
Twilight finished rubbing her eyes and shrugged. "No clue…"
It was then that a scream came out from nowhere. "AHHHHHHHH!"
Twilight and Rainbow were immediately on the alert as they looked around for the source of the scream – but no signs of the culprit.
Needless to say, Rainbow had enough and growled in frustration. "Okay, that's it! Something is going on, Twilight! We gotta get to the bottom of this now!" She stated with Twilight nodding.
"Yeah, yeah… I agree. But we don't know where-"
"HELP! I'M FALLING, GODDAMN IT!" The same voice screamed again much to Twilight and Rainbow's surprise. From the sounds, it was coming from the sky!
"Do you see anyone falling by chance?" Rainbow asked while looking upward for the source of the scream.
Twilight raised her arms and was about to answer only for something to land heavily onto her hand. She was having trouble holding it together since the thing that landed was… a girl?
The girl couldn't be anymore than 15/16 with light long brunette hair and red eyes. Her attire consisted of a green t-shirt underneath a short-sleeved red hoodie, a black skirt that was held by a brown belt and grey leggings. Her footwear consisted of pinkish-white heeled sneakers with green laces with her hands being covered by grey fingerless gloves. Lastly, there was a white headband with a bow on the top that was holding her brown-colored hair.
Said girl that had 'landed' in her arms was confused and somewhat surprised while Rainbow had finished looking at the sky and turning her attention back to Twilight. "Yeah, Twi… I don't see anything at- WHOA! HOLY COW – WHERE'D YOU COME FROM!?" She inquired from the mysterious girl that was being held by Twilight who was having difficulty holding her.
"R-rainbow… h-help! I can't hold her any longer!" Twilight told her but Rainbow gave her a deadpan look. "Umm… you can just place her down, you know?" She asked her friend as if it were obvious.
"O-oh." Twilight replied as she placed the conscious girl down gently before releasing a heavy sigh as if a burden had been lifted off her shoulders.
Rainbow rolled her eyes before focusing her attention on the newcomer… and giving her a suspicious glare. As for Twilight, she stared at the individual as well but didn't act like Rainbow – instead she was utterly lost and confused.
As for the newcomer, all she did was rub the back of her head and grin awkwardly. "Umm… hello? Thanks for the save, I guess…"
Author's Notes: *GASP* What's this? A new story per chance! That is indeed correct - so, basically this story involves a humanized version of Equestria and my Kingdom Hearts OC Mina. Originally, I posted this over on yet everyone and their goddamn mother is a critic... constant dislikes, confusing dialogue... it got to the point that I just couldn't take it anymore and immediately deleted the story. So I'll try my luck here...
Basically, this story is a Mayan Calendar/Keyblade Wielder fanfiction - for those of you that aren't aware, the Mayan Test is explained like so:
- It is a test for Humanity at the End of the World - The test is to see who would remain peaceful. If you fail nothing happens, you wake up in your bed as if the End of the World never happened. You pass - you are given the option to either go home and forget this ever happened or you can go somewhere with powers.
So, I attempted this on the FimFiction site but constant dislikes, annoyance and whatnot... basically, I just couldn't handle the pressure over there anymore so I deleted and will attempt my luck over here. Now, my OC Mina will be featured as the main character who passed the test - she is sent to a human version of Equestria (Not Equestria Girls). Also, her family will join her halfway as the story continues - her parents, sister and her girlfriend.
There will be crossovers but I'm not sure which worlds just yet... I'll have to think about it some more. Now all I ask is that you don't give me a hard time when I'm writing this - fave and follow if you want - comment as well... but no harsh comments or dislikes or heavy criticism cause I really don't want that. In fact, I'm doing this not just for my own pleasure but also writing it for the thrill of it! Time to relax and just have some fun in writing this!
What else... what else... I'm open to suggestions but no funny business or else!
So, yeah... that's all to say - sit back and relax... its time to see how my OC handle the humanized version of Equestria! Enjoy reading the adaptation of the Crescent Key!
