The girls pushed open the tall oak doors to the library
"Becky, wait here for me. I need to get a book before we go!"
"Don't take long, Anya! My chef made raspberry macarons for a snack for us when we get home. I don't want them to go crusty!"
'Becky… Macarons don't go crusty...' she thought. She knew from experience as Papa sometimes made Mama heart shaped raspberry maracons, and one night she fell asleep waiting to try them and woke up the next day finding the dessert sitting on the table.
Anya walked up to the front desk to open her bag to return a couple of spy wars comics, when she spotted Damian at the corner of her eye.
"Sy-on Boy! What are you doing here?" The telepath asked, spotting the raven hared boy as she took a couple textbooks out of her bookbag. Anya had recently taken her school studies seriously and often took trips to the library to borrow a textbook or two. Damian had noticed this, and edited his timetable to ensure her library days were at the same time as hers... just because.
"What do you want, shrimp? I'm just getting some books," he blandly responded.
What Damian was really here for was to see his Anya to search for the physics textbooks, which were conveniently located at the top of a towering shelf with the maths books, on the opposite side of the room to the chemistry books. A ladder leaned on a nearby wall next to the graphic novel shelf. Damian let out a sigh of frustration as he walked over to the shelf.
The library was rather quiet on Friday afternoons. Either the students at Eden were in detention, at a study club or had retreated home for the weekend. It was only the pair and the librarian present in the comfortable silence.
"Hi! Do you know where the physics textbooks are?"
"Good afternoon. They're on the top of that shelf over there, but I'm afraid you'll need to use a ladder to reach them. Shall I get them for you?" the old librarian offered, pushing off of the desk for support to stand from her seat. Anya swore she could hear a bone crack.
"Ah, n-no thank you! I'm sure I can manage," she responded, knowing what could happen if she let her climb up and retrieve it for her, lightly shuddering. She thought of it in her head and it all played out.
'Anya, how dare you! You smushed our librarian under a ladder by forcing her to get a book! How selfish! How despicable! HOW UNELEGANT! TONITRUS BOLT!'
'You got another tonitrus bolt and now you're excluded?! That's i! My mission failed! The Forger family is no more!'
She could definetly imagine her father saying that, although she was certain it wouldn't go that far to the fact that she'd go back to the streets ina random orphanage.
She looked around to find the ladder and saw Damian failing miserably to push it over to the shelf.
"Do you need help?"
"N-NO! You probably wouldn't even be able to lift it yourself!"
He was right, of course, but he was wasting time, struggling to move it over. Anya decided to take action and gripped the other side of the ladder and pulled it over. The pair managed to get it in the right spot, directly beside the books. All of that training from Mama paid off.
"Oh… t-thanks. Could you hold the ladder here?"
Anya oblidged, thinking obeying him would somehow miraculously increade the chance of Plan B happening (the friendship scheme, in case you've forgotten). He clambered up the ladder steps in a flash and took a book out and slid down.
"Sy-on Boy, can you hold this for me, please?"
"Oh. Sure," he replied with a red tinted face. 'All she did was ask for me to hold the ladder- why again?!'
Anya steadily took the steps up the ladder. Unbeknownst to the esper, the scion had let go of the ladder to place the book on the table. 'This is like when Bondman had to- oh- focus, Agent Starlight and retrieve the intel!' Distracted, her right foot slipped while grabbing the book, and fell back first.
"ANYA!" Damian screamed.
He sprint back under the ladder, reaching forward to catch her. She landed heavily in his arms, but he couldn't take the weight of the fall for so long, staggering forwards and landing on top of her with his hands behind her head with his face an inch away from hers and her hair sprawled across the floor. 'I'm such an idiot! Why did I let go?! She could've died! Wait, why do I care so much? Oh no, is that the teacher?'
"Anya, what's taking you so- O.M.G."
The petrified pair looked to their right in time to see Becky whip out a camera and snap a photo. Where did she even get a camera from?
"S-sy-on Boy!"
Damian finally noticed the position he was in, shocked to see Anya's innocent emerald orbs just two inches away from his. He immediately pushed himself off of the ground and step away from the frozen telepath.
"H-HEY WHAT DO YOU T-THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" the boy yelled, blushing as furious as ever, like the colour of Yor's usual sweater.
"WHAT THE HELL DID I WALK INTO?! WHAT DID I MISS?!" Becky retorted.
"H-H-HUH?! IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE!" Damian defensively roared back, the red tint on his face taking over his ears.
Becky wasn't having any of it as she grabbed Damian's book and the paralyzed esper and marched out of the library.
"Anya, you're gonna tell me everything that I missed. Everything. In the car."
And with that, the girls left leaving the red faced horror stricken scion alone.
'Did that all just happen?'
Meanwhile…
"BECKY, I SWEAR IT WASN'T-" Anya pleaded with a mouth full of red crumbs camoflaged with the blush on her face.
"I THINK I KNOW WHAT I SAW, FORGER! SEE HIS FACE?!" Becky furiously prodded at the printed out photo of the pair in the awkward position.
"N-NO BECKY YOU'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG! HE- I- WE WEREN'T GONNA-"
"I'M GONNA TREASURE THIS PHOTO FOREVER!"
"Lady Becky, you mustn't-" Martha started, before the young romance addict had fled from her seat, running upstairs, possibly to her dressing room, where she kept all of her little treasures and trinkets.
"BECKY WAAAIIT!" Followed the desperate Anya, jumping from the chair, wailing and running after her friend.
