The start to what I am hoping will be a long line of oneshots. The category can and will range for these legendary pokemon and I certainly hope some of these stories surprise you. With that said I wanted to start off with a relatively simple one. So here we see just how quickly things can spiral out of control for poor Cobalion
"Now call it a safe bet, but I think his past victories make it an obvious one." A gruff and aged voice claimed. "Come one have a little faith in him, he's managed to tie with him every single lap so far. This could be a real turning point for him." An elegant and powerful voice chastised. "Alright how about we break this tie, Cobalion who do you think will win?" I shook my head at my companions questioning, "I refuse to be a part of this…" was the only response I could muster. Standing to my left was my lifelong companion Terrakion, a massive gray and orange ox with a pair of matching ax horns. To my right was my sister Virizion, a slender green and cream antelope. Stuck between a rock type and a stubborn foal was me, the cobalt stag and delegated leader. To pass the time they had begun taking bets on who would win each race to the top and the bottom. Said betting started around their fifth trip to the top. Since then they had run up and down the translucent marble stairway a total of ten times each.
I was going to speak with Arceus and let him know we would be running late, but all my attempts had been halted by Mew, she insisted Arceus was busy and shooed me out. She wouldn't even let us enter the Hall. That only convinced us that Arceus was occupied spending the day alone with her. Fortunately it left me with ample time to think of a proper punishment for the two.
The once vibrant sun had grown tired of today's antics and was leaving the ambient moon to watch over us. I was going to put an end to their competition when they got back to the top. Both of them had been blinded by their competitive spirit, when it came to training this was phenomenal motivation for Keldeo. Unfortunately the two would make a contest out of truly anything they possibly could. Today was no exception. It was supposed to be a monumental day for our apprentice. Word had spread of my son's action and in no small part from the inner gossip from the other council members word quickly reached Him. When Keldeo tried to rub it in Victini's face over getting to meet our creator before Victini would. The young rabbit said he had also been invited and on the same day no less. With the promises of best behavior I reluctantly allowed for Victini to journey with us to meet Him.
We had departed early to avoid causing any conflicts in His busy schedule. Virizion had taken it upon herself to make Keldeo presentable. I could not argue with how long and unkempt his mane had been getting. With Keldeo deemed presentable enough for Virizion's standards we left with an especially excited Victini. As we neared the pathway to the Hall of Origins everything fell apart. I had made the fatal mistake of having them only promise to be on their best behavior when meeting Arceus.
The second they saw those cursed crystalline stairs everything unraveled. Victini said he would meet us at the top, a comment Keldeo took personally. "You cannot best me! I will be the first!" Before I could restrain either of them they both dashed for the top of the horizon. "KICK HIS ASS KELLY!" Virizion shouted as the duo vanished from sight. "Please do not encourage this." I had hoped they would simply be waiting for us at the top of the stairs and I would only have to give them a light scolding for their behavior. As I was planning exactly what to say to them, they dashed past us. I hardly had time to process what just happened. All I knew was that our plans for the day had been altered entirely and I now had to plan a far more severe punishment for the both of them. Each time they raced to the top they were just as quick to rush back down. This time they were grinding down the rails. I could only assume their legs must have been getting tired at this point. That would be useful information for later.
"What in the name of Sinnoh is going on out here? You were all supposed to meet with me hours ago!" Echoed the authoritative and partially confused cries of the very creator Keldeo and Victini were supposed to be meeting. The towering white Qilin, adorned with his golden wheel, gleaming against the fading light of the day. Blissfully resting on his head the same small pink kitten who barred us from entering, absentmindedly waving at us. She must have been taking advantage of having the entire day alone with Him. "We had every intention of meeting with you Sir… we've just had difficulties with Keldeo and Victini. I will make sure to properly discipline them when they reach the top." At the mention of current events His head tilted to the side, "Are they having trouble climbing the stairs?"
"No, they just thought it would be a good idea to race each other all day over meeting you." I explained, before I could continue Terrakion interjected. "Yeah, they got tired of running so now they're both grinding down the rails." Mew's face lit up at hearing 'grinding down the rails'. "Kitty wai-" Was all He managed to utter. With a squeal of how much fun it would be she rocketed past us. After a few moments of silence Virizion continued our explanation. "So… to pass the time, Terrakion and I have been taking bets on who we think the winner is going to be." Virizion answered, this caught His attention and Terrakion just as quickly reeled Him in further, "Yeah, she says Keldeo is gonna pull off a win. I say Victini is gonna win like he always does. We asked Cobalion here to chime in but he's been refusing." His multicolored eyes shone with intrigue and He spoke up, "Well, I would be interested in taking part in this."
As soon as He said He wanted in on the bet, Virizion leapt at the opportunity, "Wondrous. Who are you betting on?". Virizion and Terrakion's competitive gleam disappeared entirely hearing just who Arceus was putting His bet on, "Mew.". Perhaps it was for the best that I stayed neutral in that wager. I would have placed my faith in Keldeo. In less than a minute from His declaration Mew had teleported right back to the top of the stairs with an utterly exhausted Victini and Keldeo in tow. "Thank you Kitten." Mew's bell rang in excitement as she flipped around the skyline giddy to receive His praise.
"Unfortunately I have matters I must attend to now so I'm afraid our meeting will need to be cut short. Please feel free to spend the night here, I'll be able to properly meet the both of you tomorrow." As he turned to return to the ever-expanding Halls he stopped in His tracks. "Ah yes there is still one last matter to answer, who got to the bottom first?" Mew silently raised her paw, accompanied with the soft chimes of her bell. "HAH! I knew you would get to the bottom first!" Arceus gleefully exclaimed, excitedly nuzzling her head. Mew had no idea why she was being praised but none-the-less happily accepted the affection. And with that the two returned to their chambers. With Arceus no longer present it was time to scold my son for his disobedience. "I hope you are aware of how upset I am right now young man." He nodded looking at the pristine see-through marble floor for security. With a stomp of my hoof he snapped to attention looking me in the eyes. "You know, it wasn't a total loss. They did get plenty of cardio in their routine." Terrakion interjected. "True, it's doubtful we'd even have had the chance to meet with Arceus thanks to Mew's selfishness." Virizion chimed in, they were trying to get me to go easy on Keldeo. Maybe in a different scenario that would work, but this was not a case I could let slide.
"Since you were so eager to use these stairs for your training, I am more than willing to adjust your routine for you. You will go up AND down them one hundred times each. Do I make myself clear?" His face was drained of any remaining life and he meekly responded with a "Yes sir…" Perhaps it was a little too harsh, but this was not the time to be merciful.
"Hey… I'll run with ya… Only fair…" Victini gasped out, at least the small rabbit was willing to share the blame for the problem he was responsible for. As the two began the first of many treks to the bottom of the Hall I felt now was the right time to ask my companions, "So, who do you think will reach the bottom first?"
Like I said nothing too earth shattering out of the gate. Even still I sincerely hope you enjoyed this first line of crazy misadventures.
So please leave a review and let me know what you all thought.
Until next time, have a good day.
