Itachi's New Girlfriend
By Bashfulglowfly
Sasuke Uchiha walked in the front door of his parents' home and saw his mother vacuuming the living room carpet. He knew something had to be going on because she had just vacuumed two days before. "Hi, Mom!"
Mikoto Uchiha turned off the vacuum and smiled at her youngest son. "Welcome home! Do you have any homework?"
Sasuke stared at her for a moment "Mom, I'm working I don't go to school anymore."
Mikoto rubbed her forehead. "Sorry, I forgot for a second."
"You vacuumed when I was here two days ago. What's going on?"
Mikoto beamed "Itachi is bringing his new girlfriend home for supper." She put the vacuum away then looked back at Sasuke "You need to clean your room!"
Sasuke blinked at his mother. "Mom, really? One, I don't live here and two, even if I did, what reason would this new girlfriend have to enter my room? Let alone go upstairs?"
"Itachi might want to show her around. You don't have to clean your room, but I could use some help. Go set the table." Mikoto entered the kitchen with Sasuke following. "Use the good china and crystal." She ordered.
"Mom, seriously, you need to calm down. It's not like he's going to propose to her, and you might scare her if you go too over the top with dinner." Sasuke pulled out a stool from the kitchen island and sat down. "And this isn't the first time Itachi has brought home a girl. Remember that Konan chick."
Mikoto glared at her son over the word 'chick.' "I remember Konan quite well. A lovely young lady. Someone who has been a friend of your brother since high school. He said Konan was the one who introduced her to him. They work at the same hospital."
Sasuke reached over and grabbed a baby carrot from the open bag on the counter and munched down. "What's her name? The new girlfriend?"
"I haven't washed those yet." Mikoto rolled her eyes at her son's careless shrug. "I don't know. He hasn't said."
"That weird. Even for Itachi."
"Sasuke!" Mikoto swatted at him with a towel. "He says he wants to keep it a surprise."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow "Huh, I wonder if I know her."

Sasuke tried not to stare in horror.
He knew Itachi's girlfriend.
Sakura Haruno.
He went to school with her.
And in their first year, he told a lie about her, and it got around the entire school because of the big mouth of his friend Suigetsu and it came back to bite him in the ass.
Horrifically.
He glared at Itachi. There was no way the fucker didn't remember.
Itachi just serenely smiled at him.
Sakura had politely and cheerfully greeted his parents and when she was 'introduced' to him, her eyes turned to icy emeralds while her greeting was just as polite as it was to his parents.
She hadn't forgotten either.
Shit.
They sat down in the living room and chatted for a while. Fugaku and Mikoto tag-teamed and found out about Sakura's family, her education, and her plans for the future.
Nothing was said about the possible future of a long-term relationship between Itachi and Sakura.
Mikoto called them into dinner. Sakura promptly offered to help but Mikoto told her that she was a guest and made Sasuke help.
Sasuke could see Itachi and Sakura exchange a look that was clearly communicating something.
As dinner progressed, Fugaku asked "This isn't the first time you've met Sasuke, is it."
Sakura smiled at the older man. "No, we went to high school together. I haven't seen him since we graduated."
"Sasuke never mentions seeing any of his high school classmates." Said Mikoto, patting her lips with a napkin. "Itachi keeps in contact with his high school friends. Do you?"
"Absolutely. My best friend, Ino Yamanaka, recently got married to a photographer, Sai. I think he's a distant cousin of the Uchiha's."
"Yes, his parents were disappointed that they eloped."
Sakura laughed. "Trust me, Ino's parents were thrilled. She had been planning her wedding since elementary school and she had BIG Plans. The Yamanaka's saved thousands of dollars. Trust me!
"I also keep in contact with Naruto Uzumaki and his wife Hinata Hyuuga. They have a business together and have two children. I see Shikamaru Nara, Chouji Akimichi and Kiba Inuzuka quite frequently as well."
Itachi spoke "It's amazing how Sakura and Sasuke's paths didn't cross until now."
Sasuke carefully tried to glare at his older brother, but he didn't want their mother to notice and ask what his problem was.
Sakura patted Itachi's hand "It's probably because he's just shy and embarrassed."
Mikoto laughed "Why would Sasuke be embarrassed?"
Itachi slowly smiled "Well, Sasuke said something about Sakura in their first year of high school and it backfired."
Fugaku choked.
Sasuke could see his father's eyes dart to Sakura then to Sasuke then to Mikoto. The older man paled slightly. It was then that Sasuke knew that his father knew what he had said and what Sakura's response had been.
A quick glance at his mother's face and he knew that she didn't know what had been said.
Sasuke could remember that day like it was yesterday. He remembered how angry he was with Suigetsu that he'd spread Sasuke's lie around school. But he had been certain that Sakura would try and ignore the gossip.
He had been so very, very wrong:
He was sitting at a lunch table with his friends Suigetsu and Juugo. Sakura came in, clearly angry and refusing to look at him. She sat down at a table occupied by her cousin, Gaara. They spoke with each other for a moment with Gaara glaring daggers at him. Then Ino Yamanaka came charging into the lunchroom.
"FOREHEAD! WHY DID I HAVE TO FIND OUT FROM SOMEONE ELSE THAT YOU HAD SEX WITH SASUKE?!"
The lunchroom became utterly silent.
He watched as Sakura looked at Ino. "Well…well, I have to tell you Ino, sex with Sasuke was so incredibly…"
He remembered smirking at his friends knowing that she was going along with his lie. But he didn't expect what she said next. "…incredibly AWEFUL! Ino, he didn't even last thirty seconds and worst of all…worst of all, he called me by his MOTHER'S NAME!"
He remembered leaping from his seat and running out of the lunchroom.
He knew that Itachi had heard everything and lived in fear of his older brother's retaliation for over two weeks.
It never came.
And his dating life, at least with girls from Konoha High School, was non-existent. No one wanted to date the guy who couldn't last 30 seconds and was fixated on his mother.
"Sasuke! What on earth did you say about Sakura?! You should be ashamed of yourself. Did you apologize?" Mikoto's glare didn't help the sudden heartburn Sasuke developed.
Sakura smiled charmingly at Mikoto. "It's alright, Mrs. Uchiha. Sasuke was just…a little boy back then that didn't know better. I wasn't much better myself."
"Well…"
"Mother, clearly Sakura has forgiven Sasuke at this point. No need to bring up old dirt."
Mikoto hesitated but Fugaku nodded at his eldest's words "Quite right. Only things like that just make people uncomfortable and is poor dinner conversation."
Sasuke remained silent for the rest of the meal. Itachi volunteered to do the dishes and Sakura helped. Sasuke dearly wanted to leave but knew that his mother would have his scalp.
It was Itachi who ended the evening, saying that Sakura had an early shift at the hospital the next day. Mikoto wrapped up leftovers and pressed them into Sakura and Itachi's hands. Clearly, she felt that the pair worked too much and didn't eat right.
Soon they left and Sasuke soon followed, with his own leftovers.
As he drove away, he received a text from Itachi.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Sasuke would have beat his head on the steering wheel if he didn't think he'd end up crashing the car and be sent to Sakura's hospital.
"He's going to marry her. I know he is." Sasuke could only grip the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.
