Sorry my updates have been so sporadic but it's Hockey season and I refuse to miss a single Canucks game. They are doing amazing this year. Go Canucks!
Chapter 10:
Rachel was lying on the couch scrolling through her social media on her laptop and Finn was sitting in his dad's chair with his laptop, trying to study for an upcoming test.
A slight ding came from Rachel's computer and Finn looked up at her at the same time her eyes locked on his. His face showed concern and Rachel was confused.
"Is your laptop connected to your phone?" Finn asked her.
"Yeah, why?" Rachel responded, raising an eyebrow.
"Who messaged you?"
"I don't know. I haven't opened it yet." Rachel replied, looking back down at the screen and clicking a couple things. Suddenly she gasped and Finn saw tears fill her eyes even from where he was sitting.
"What, Rach? Who is it? What does it say?" Finn asked, his anxiety rising at her expression.
"It's Brody." Rachel said. She slammed the laptop shut as Finn moved to her side.
"Let me see." Rachel shook her head violently. "Rach, let me see. Please."
He managed to get the laptop away from her and opened the lid. Rachel tried to grab it back but Finn blocked her. He quickly typed in her password and the screen unlocked.
"Please, Finn. Don't read it." Rachel begged, tears streaming down her face. When it seemed like he was ignoring her, she let out a sob and ran out of the room.
Finn watched her run out, dumbfounded. He didn't understand why this message made her so upset. He let her go for now as he read the message, he had to know what was wrong to make her feel better.
I will have you Rachel. You're mine even if I have to kill Finn right in front of you.
Now he understood why she was so upset. He got to his feet and went to find his beautiful girl. He ran into Kurt in the hallway and stopped him.
"Hey bro, I wanted to apologize for my behavior the other night. I know you were doing your best to look out for her. Have you seen her? She was pretty upset." Finn asked.
"I'd check the bathroom. I thought I heard her crying in there." Kurt replied.
"Thanks, Kurt." Finn replied, moving to the door. "Rach? Baby, can I come in?"
"No! Go, away!" She cried through the door.
Finn reached down and tried the handle, it was locked. "Please baby, unlock the door. Let me talk to you."
He heard her sniffle. "You ignored me, Finn. I told you I didn't want you to read it and you did anyway."
"I just wanted to know what made you so upset, Rach. Please let me in." Finn begged, a tear sliding down his face at her distress.
He heard the lock click and he tried the knob, the door swinging open for him to see Rachel curled up in a ball in front of the bathtub. She was still sobbing and trying to hide her face.
He knelt down beside her and reached for her hand, holding it firmly in his own. "I'm sorry I didn't respect your wishes baby but I needed to know what made you so upset. I knew it was more than just me invading your privacy."
He gently pulled her into his lap and kissed her forehead. "Nothing is going to happen to me, Rach. We're going to be okay, I promise."
"How can you promise that? You don't know what he's capable of." Rachel cried.
"I don't care. You mean to much to me. I don't care what happens to me as long as you're safe." Finn replied, carefully rocking her in his arms. "Shh...calm down, baby. You're okay."
"I hate this! He enjoys playing with me. He wants me to be scared." Rachel said suddenly, pulling away to look at him.
Finn nodded in agreement. "Are you?"
Rachel held his gaze and gulped. "I don't want to be but I am. He doesn't even have to do anything and I'm terrified."
"He's obsessed with you, Rachel. It's okay to be scared but just remember, I won't let him hurt you." Finn replied gently. He placed a soft kiss to her forehead in reassurance.
Rachel finally started to sniffle after a few minutes and Finn pulled back to look at her. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so emotional, its just this a lot all at once."
"It's okay. I understand. I'm here, remember?" Finn soothed, running a hand through her hair in comfort. "Come on, let's go back to my room."
Rachel nodded and got up from his lap, wiping at her face with her hands. Finn pulled himself to his feet and took her hand, squeezing it gently as he led the way.
She sat on his bed timidly and stared at her feet. Finn closed the door before he knelt in front of her. "What's wrong?"
"I'm just not sure how to deal with all this, Finn." Rachel replied, looking up at him. He saw the turmoil in her eyes and just wanted to make it go away.
"You don't have to do it alone, Rachel. I know this is a lot to process lately but you are not alone." Finn said comfortingly. He ran his hands over her thighs. "I'm right here."
"You have a life to get back to eventually. I'm going to be nothing but a distant memory soon enough." Rachel said.
"Never. You have been on my mind constantly since we've been apart. I love you, Rachel. I always will, you are so special. Especially to me. You're everything to me, Rach." Finn replied, clasping her hands in his. "You don't have to be afraid to let me in."
Later that day, Rachel was reading on Finn's bed. He was downstairs letting Santana know what the latest message from Brody was. She had turned her phone on earlier that day to check her emails and send some emails to her professors. She startled when the phone chimed beside her. She was nervous to see who the message was from. She picked up the phone with shaky hands and unlocked the screen. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it was only her dad wanting to check on her. She sent him a quick text back before Finn's bedroom door opened.
"Hey, baby." Finn said looking up from his phone as he crossed the threshold.
"Hey. Everything okay?" Rachel asked him softly. She sat up in the bed in concern.
"Not really. I have to go into the shop, Burt needs the extra help and normally he wouldn't ask with everything going on..." Finn started.
"Go." Rachel replied. "He wouldn't be calling you for help if it was something he could handle."
"But...I don't want to leave you, Rach."
Rachel gave him a small smile as she moved toward him. She rose on her toes to kiss his lips gently. "I'll be okay here until you get back."
"Rach, no body is home. I don't feel comfortable leaving you here by yourself right now. Why don't you come with me, it shouldn't take long?" Finn reasoned.
"No, I'll be fine. I don't plan on leaving the house, at least not until you get back." Rachel argued. "Just go see what he needs."
Finn looked at her in silence for another minute before stuffing his phone in his pocket and kissing her forehead. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Don't open the door for anyone, okay?"
Rachel nodded. "Don't worry so much, I'll be fine."
"Promise me, please? I need you to be safe." Finn replied. "I love you."
"I love you too. I promise I won't open the door for anyone." Rachel said reassuringly. "Hurry back."
Finn leaned down and captured her lips in his own. He poured every ounce of love he had for her into that kiss. When he pulled away she was breathless and there was tears in his eyes. "I will."
She locked the door behind him as he left and let out a sigh.
She had fallen asleep on Finn's bed when a loud crash from downstairs startled her awake an hour later. She bolted into a sitting position on his bed and fear was written all over her face. She reached for her cell phone as she heard shuffling around downstairs. She moved as quickly and as quietly as possible through his room. She had tears running down her face in her panic and she yanked Finn's closet door open. She stuffed herself into the bottom and carefully closed the door behind her.
She could hear how shallow her own breaths were as she unlocked her phone and pulled up Finn's number. Her hands were shaking as she brought the phone to her ear and waited for him to answer.
She didn't have to wait long. "Hey, baby. Sorry we're just finishing up and then I was headed back..."
He heard her whimper over the line and he stopped. "Rach? Baby, what's wrong?"
Rachel gulped and whispered. "I think someone is in the house. I heard a crash and there's loud movement downstairs."
Finn's heart started to race and he grabbed his jacket and his car keys before running for his car. "I'm on my way, baby. Do they know you're there?"
"No. I didn't want to alert them to my presence." Rachel explained quietly.
"Okay good. Are you hiding?" Finn asked her gently, gunning it out of the parking lot.
"Mm hmm." She responded quietly. "Finn, I'm scared."
"I know, baby. It's going to be okay." Finn soothed. He was breaking almost every traffic law but he didn't care when it came to Rachel. Where the hell was the police guard? "I'm not far just hold on, okay?"
Finn heard a scuffle on the other end of the line shortly after he spoke. Just as he was about to ask what had happened, he heard Rachel let out a scream and his blood ran cold. He turned down his parents' street and gunned it to their driveway. He barely had the car in park before he threw the door open and raced into the house. He noticed the police car out front and figured they were around somewhere. He ran up the stairs and threw open his door to find Rachel being held in a choke hold by Brody with tears streaming down her face. The police guard was trying to contain the situation but Finn's arrival just made Brody more smug.
"Oh look, Rachel. It's the ex you just can't shake." Brody taunted.
Rachel sobbed as she locked eyes with Finn and Finn just wanted to pull her into his arms and never let go. He sent her a look of reassurance and love as he let the officer try and contain the situation.
"Let her go, Mr. Weston." The officer stated firmly.
"Not a chance. If I'm going down then this bitch is going down with me." Brody said squeezing Rachel tighter to him and causing her to whimper in pain.
Finn's anger flared and he lashed out. "All you've ever done is hurt her, how can you claim to love her?"
"She choose me after you! You don't get a say in her life anymore." Brody snapped.
"That's where you're wrong." Finn said confidently. "She gave me her heart to protect just like I gave her mine. She will always belong to me."
Brody suddenly brandished a knife and held it to Rachel's throat. She let out at a fearful yelp as she kept her eyes glued to Finn. She didn't want to close her eyes and miss Finn being the last thing she saw. She could see the fear in his eyes as well, fear for her. Fear that this might be his last moment with her. She suddenly wished that she hadn't called him, she didn't want him to remember her this way.
"I see your seeing things in a new light now." Brody laughed. "I have the upper hand here."
Something inside of Finn broke and he sent out his final act of desperation. "Why are you doing this to her? Why can't you just let her go?"
"Because you don't deserve her. I've wanted her since the moment I laid eyes on her." Brody said smugly. He placed his lips near Rachel's ear. "We had so much fun together didn't we, Rachel?"
Finn saw Rachel shudder and her eyes fell shut for a second before opening again to lock on Finn. He gave her a gentle smile, trying to comfort her. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement and he stayed still. He hoped they were there to help them. He just had to stall until they could make a move. "And I've known that I was meant to spend my life with her since the moment we met. I would never do to her what you did. That's not love!"
"Shut up!" Brody exclaimed, his anger flaring and his grip getting tighter on Rachel. Rachel was becoming pale from the lack of oxygen she was getting. Her eyes were starting to fall closed. "If I can't have her then no one can."
Before Brody could make a move with the knife, there was a thump and Brody fell to the floor unconscious, revealing Santana holding one of Finn's heaviest football trophies.
Finn watched as Rachel fell with Brody, her limp form tangled with his. His heart beating rapidly, he started to approach them only to be cut off by the officer.
"Let me make sure the situation is contained first. I know you're worried about your friend but my job is to keep you all safe." The officer explained causing Finn to roll his eyes in annoyance. If he was supposed to keep them safe then where was he when Brody had broken into his parents' house?
Finn gestured the officer forward but kept his eyes on Rachel as the officer put Brody in handcuffs. As soon as the second cuff had clicked into place, Finn was scrambling to Rachel's side.
He carefully brushed her hair over her shoulder and cupped her cheek. "Rach? Baby, wake up. It's okay. It's over."
Finn watched as the color flooded back into her cheeks. He gently wiped away the tears that had fallen down her gorgeous face. Her eyes started to flutter and it was in that moment that Finn noticed a small cut to her neck from the knife. He carefully pulled her into his lap, cradling her against his chest.
"Finn?" She murmured against his neck.
"Shh. It's me, baby. I got you. You're safe now." Finn soothed, kissing her forehead gently.
Rachel's tears started to flow again and she clutched at him tightly. Finn gently rocked her as he placed soft kisses to her head and whispered nonsense in her ear. Finn could feel her entire body shaking, a result of fear and tension. He held her even tighter and kissed her temple as he whispered against her skin. "It's alright, baby. You're okay now."
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Okay so this story is slowly coming to a close. Only a few more chapters, I think. You don't honestly think that Brody will stay in police custody, do you? This chapter was fun to write but did get lengthy with everything that needed said. As always, please review and let me know what you think so far. Until next time, 'Losers.'
