Rivercourt Rambles

Chapter 30

But marriage is not about always being happy. It's about compromise

It had been a few days since the birth and I checked in with Peyton. About herself and Karen to thank her again for being there for me and us.

And i got an early call from Haley. Asking me about my plans for being discharged today.

"I know i wanted to you to come get us and i still do." Brooke confirmed.

"Luke called me a few days ago and said he would take the three of you home. Did he tell you anything about that.?" Haley asked

"No not at all." Brooke replied. As she glared at a sleeping Lucas nearby.

"The three of us will be out front of the hospital in a few minutes. Thanks Haley." Brooke added in.

"We're sisters. You're family. I have the car seats ready for them in the backseat." Haley replied. Before the call between them ended.

Brooke grabbed the hospital phone and made it clear she wanted to leave now.

She quietly got dressed. Then got Roman and Sloane ready to go in the outfits she had created. The infants were fast asleep.

Lucas was a heavy sleeper. While Brooke slept lightly.

She was able to leave with the twins in a wheelchair being pushed by a nurse. Without Lucas even noticing.

By the time Lucas awoke it was afternoon.

...

The Scott home

Brooke carefully made her way out of the nursery.

Haley had stuck around longer then planned.

Wanting to help Brooke adjust to motherhood.

In ways only another mother could.

"I've kept you here long enough Hales."

"Go home to Nate and the kids." Brooke insisted.

"Are you and Luke going to be okay.?" Haley asked.

"He's my husband. The four of us are a family. I owe it to Roman and Sloane to figure it out and make this work." Brooke replied.

"I'm here. Nathan. Mouth. Rachel. Skills. "

"Don't shut us out." Haley proclaimed.

Brooke pulled her into a hug. Before watching her leave the home.

The baby monitor nearby. Brooke took a breath. Clutching a framed photo from their wedding.

Feeling tears fall from her eyes.

...

"So you leaving me at the hospital alone was payback.?" Lucas asked. Once he entered through the front door.

Brooke looked up at him.

"I told you i need time and space. But i want you here with the babies. For us to do this together."

"Lucas i love you. I want our family to work." Brooke explained.

"If you never got involved with Julian none of this would of happened. You know that i need you." Lucas said.

"Forget about the outside world and make our family a priority please." Brooke insisted.

...

With putting their family first in mind. Brooke cut back her hours. At the store to be home more. With Lucas. Sloane and Roman.

While Lucas increased his hours at the office.

Time went on. Brooke had her family together and whole. Roman and Sloane grew and thrived.

Brooke kept track of various moments and milestones. Memories.

Brooke enjoyed being home. But as the years began to pass.

Brooke longed to be back at her store and creating. She missed it.

Roman and Sloane were 5 years old now. Brooke had become a stay at home mom and her marriage was at last in a stable place again.
