Raphael immediately got to work on helping his brother. He started by removing what little clothing he was wearing. He needed a complete picture before he began healing his brother. Samael's injuries were extensive. He had broken bones, including in both his legs. Raphael could only guess at the point of that was to make sure that his brother couldn't get up and walk away. He also had gashes on almost all of his body. Some of them were fresh and still bleeding profusely, while others were old and healing. He had burns that covered much of his body as well. It was very obvious to Raphael that his brother was tortured, and for a while.
Raphael shuddered as he took in his brother's injuries, but that was the only reaction he would allow himself to have. He couldn't let himself think too much on it. If he did, he wouldn't be able to continue, and that wasn't an option. Samael needed him to keep his emotions in check in order to help him. He would deal with the emotional consequences of what he was seeing later.
Raphael turned to his father and brother. "I need you both to help me lift him. I need to get a look at his back."
God and Michael both helped Raphael lift him. When they got a look at his back, all three of them gasped in horror. The word 'Satan' was carved into it.
"Oh, my poor boy. I'm so sorry, son," God whispered to his son with pain laced in his voice. How could he have allowed this to happen? How could he have let something so horrific happen to his own son?
"Okay, you can put him back down now," Raphael said in a shaky tone. Again, he could not allow himself to lose it right now. He would feel what he needed to once his work was done.
God and Michael did what they were told. Michael's entire body was shaking with fury. He wasn't sure he'd ever known such rage in his life. "They branded him! What gives them the right to touch him?!"
God took ahold of Michael's arm and pulled him aside. "Come here, son."
"Father, look what they did to him! They tortured him! They carved into his back! Whoever did this needs to suffer the worst pain imaginable. We have initiated war for less!" Michael raged.
"Michael, I know you are angry. I am too. I am enraged. And I promise you, those responsible will feel that rage. But now isn't the time. Right now, we need to focus on what we can do to help your brother. We must quash our anger for the moment," God told him.
"I don't know if I can do that. Look at him!" Michael said as he pointed to his injured twin.
God sighed. He couldn't really blame his son for his anger. As he said, he felt that anger, too. The world was going to know his fury when he was done with it. However, for the moment Raphael needed to work and Michael was making that a bit difficult. "Alright, I want you to do something for me. I want you to go to Earth and speak to Amenadiel. Find out what he knows about what has happened and then bring him back with you."
Michael shook his head wildly. "No, I can't. I can't leave."
"I'm sorry, Michael, but you have to leave. Raphael needs to focus on helping Samael. You are too upset to be here while he's doing that. I know you wanna help your brother. You can do so by trying to find out what happened to him. Go to Amenadiel," God said in a tone that made it clear that it was not a request.
"Yes, Father," Michael said reluctantly before leaving the room.
God went back over to his other two sons. He placed a hand on Samael's head. It was the only place he could touch him to offer him comfort.
"Father, I don't understand how anyone could harm him this way. Many of these injuries are man-made," Raphael said. They weren't all made by human weapons. He could detect that a celestial weapon was used for some of it, but not all of it. The problem was that a human weapon shouldn't have been able to harm his brother. "We are impervious to man-made weapons."
"Actually, there is one specific circumstance where your brother is vulnerable to human weapons. There is a human on earth that he is close to. He has made himself vulnerable in her presence," God said. He too was disturbed by this news. While his son may have been able to be hurt and Chloe Decker's presence, she was no longer present.
"You think she was there?" Raphael asked.
"I don't know, but that's not what's concerning me at the moment. She isn't here now, which means he should be healing. However, it is a problem that I will have to figure out later. Just do what you need to to help him," God said.
Raphael nodded and got to work. Moments after he started, however, his brother started to seize violently. He and his father immediately grabbed a hold of him. "I don't understand what is happening. I have barely begun to heal him, and nothing I have done should cause this."
"It's not you, son. I believe something is amiss in his system," God said before immediately scanning his injured son. What he found infuriated him even more than he already was. There were a couple of different substances in his bloodstream. Some of them were probably human drugs, but it was the last one that infuriated him. It was the last one that caused such an adverse reaction. "They gave him her blood!"
"Whose blood?" Raphael asked.
"The human that makes him vulnerable. That's why he's not healing. As long as it's in his system, he may as well be human," God said.
Raphael's eyes widened in horror. "They put human blood in an Archangel? That could kill him."
God nodded and immediately got to work in removing the substance. It truly could have killed Samael, and it might have been a permanent death too. Human blood was not meant to mix with Archangel blood.
Raphael watched as his brother's body calmed down after his father was done removing the blood. He sighed in relief. He then scanned his brother and saw that he was naturally healing slightly. "It worked. He's starting to stabilize, and the mortal injuries are starting to heal by themselves. I can focus on the ones caused by celestial weapons. I need to turn him on his back again."
God nodded and helped turn Samael onto his back. When he was once again confronted by the word etched into his son's back, his fury became even worse. It was taking everything he had to remain calm at the moment.
"The branding was made by a celestial weapon. His wings were also injured by a celestial weapon. I don't know how he managed to fly like this. Both his wings are broken and slashed almost to pieces," Raphael commented.
"Adrenaline. It's said to have a lot of power when needed. Flying here was the only way he would survive. He was able to do what he needed to do," God said.
Raphael nodded. "It's going to take time for him to heal from these injuries. I will do what I can, but it will still take time. As you know, I cannot heal injuries sustained by a Celestial weapon instantly. I don't think he's in any danger anymore though. You can leave if you need to, Father."
"I won't be going anywhere anytime soon," God said firmly as he ran a hand through his son's hair.
"What happens once he's healed? I mean with Samael. Will he have to leave again?" Raphael asked.
"He's home. He isn't going anywhere," God said, his eyes never leaving his injured son.
Raphael nodded and went back to his work.
