Chapter fifteen

Breaking Dawn 19-23

"Preface," Carlisle read.

"You should probably skip this … it's just going to have Eddy worrying the whole time," Emmett chuckled.

Edward rolled his eyes and motioned for Carlisle to read.

Mentions no longer a nightmare, the line of black advance:

"Oh, no," Esme worried.

"I told you, you should have skipped this," Emmett said excitedly, "but I don't mind so much."

Mentions that the panic changed to bloodlust:

"That's the right attitude, sister," Emmett smiled.

"That doesn't really sound like Bella," Alice muttered.

"Obviously, she's a vampire now … her instincts are to fight and protect," Emmett said.

"He does have a point there," Jasper said.

"It looks like the fight with the Volturi is really going to come to a head in this book," Edward frowned and that was a horrible thought.

"Yeah," Emmett smiled, "but why worry about that now?"

Edward groaned and Carlisle chose to keep reading, "Burning."

And Edward flinched at the title of the chapter. Everyone did, thinking about their own experience – except for Alice.

Mentions the pain was bewildering:

"Bewildering?" several people said. That's not really what they would call it.

Mentions that Bella rejected the pain and blackness for minutes of the agony, and harder to keep up with reality:

"That doesn't sound right," Emmett said. "You remember every second of the burning pain."

"Perhaps this is before the transformation," Carlisle said calmly.

Mentions Bella watched as the cup tilted, spilling blood:

"So, it is before," Emmett said.

"Why did we have to listen to the stupid mutt's version of this, then?" Rosalie hissed.

"To know about the imprinting," Emmett suggested, smirking.

Rosalie and Edward growled at him.

Bella says, get him out, and wondered why he hadn't done it yet:

"Yeah Eddy … what were you thinking?" Emmett asked.

"I know the answer to that one … he wanted to give her the morphine first," Jasper said.

"How did you ever guess that?" Emmett chuckled.

"I have no idea," Jasper chuckled, too.

"Idiots," Rosalie and Alice both said.

Bella thinks of course I would keep my heart beating, hadn't I promised them both:

"And she's too stubborn not to follow through with this," Emmett said. "I don't know why you were worried."

Bella thinks her wet skin was hot, as hot as Jacob's:

"No … it was hotter," Carlisle said.

"Yeah … she's a lot hotter," Emmett chuckled.

Edward glared at him.

Bella describes Renesmee's irises were a familiar, but astonishing, chocolate brown:

"I would suppose that means that she doesn't think her eyes are astonishing," Edward muttered fondly.

Bella thinks no, I wanted to shout, give her back to me:

"You'll see her again," Edward said. "You just need to get better before that."

"Can she be around Renesmee?" Emmett asked. "I'm mean … she has a heartbeat …."

"I don't know," Edward said, looking at Carlisle.

"We'll have to see," Carlisle said, "but seeing as there are seven of us … I'm sure we'll figure something out."

Bella mentions she was trying to keep up with the supernatural for too long:

"But it's the strength of will that you need here, and you have plenty of that," Jasper said.

Bella thinks Edward and her life were twisted into a single strand, cut one, you cut both:

Edward flinched at that, but not because he didn't think it was true or that he wouldn't have done that in a second if she was gone. No, he flinched because he knew she was right, and she would do the same if he were gone.

Bella thinks it wasn't enough, that the darkness gained, and she needed something more to draw strength from:

"Think about something," Edward encouraged.

"You know she's going to be okay," Alice said. "Her heart was beating in the last chapter."

Bella thinks she couldn't pull Edward's face up and then others and it terrified her that she couldn't, was it too late:

"Did she really think that she could have pulled the others up if she couldn't have pulled Edward's?" Alice asked.

"She didn't mention me," Emmett pouted.

"Me either," Jasper frowned.

"Well, she mentioned me," Rosalie smirked. She wouldn't have thought she would have been mentioned there.

"She must be grateful for your help," Edward smiled at his sister. He was grateful, too.

Bella thinks my baby, my little nudger:

"Ah … Renesmee is helping her," Rosalie said.

"Is the baby still her little nudger if it's not the boy she thought it was?" Emmett asked.

"Of course … Renesmee was the one that was nudging her, after all," Esme said.

"Good," Emmett smiled.

Mentions of hotter, the heat was so real it was hard to believe, hotter:

"Okay, now she's talking about the venom," Emmett stated the obvious.

Edward froze himself in place then, knowing what she was about to go through.

Mentions that she found her heart again, just when she wished that she never had:

"The pain is worth it in the end," Emmett said. "You just have to live through it."

Mentions I can't move my lips:

"Why not?" Edward asked, suddenly breaking from his frozen state. "She should be able to move."

"I'm not sure," Carlisle said, "but you did give her morphine … perhaps that is what is affecting her."

"Right," Edward said. "I thought it might help her with the pain …."

"At least I know now that it wouldn't have helped me," Emmett said. He had wondered about that when Carlisle had told him he had tried this before he was turned.

"Yeah, but it might have saved our ears," Edward said. "You screamed so much."

"Like you didn't," Emmett glared at him.

Bella thinks why can't I move, scream, this isn't part of the stories:

"Nope, but you never do things that are part of our stories," Emmett said. "You have to go and make your own stories."

Bella thinks because I knew that every scream would torment Edward:

Edward sighed and smiled sadly at that.

"That's very considerate of her," Esme said, though she wished that the Edward in the room didn't know that this is what she was doing … he was certainly going to suffer through this.

Bella thinks if I couldn't scream, how could I tell them to kill me:

Emmett chuckled at that.

"Not funny," Alice hissed for Edward, who was frozen again.

Bella thinks I could feel the control of my body come back, I knew it but I didn't act on it:

"See … strong willed," Jasper smiled. It takes a lot to not move or scream under that kind of pain.

Bella thinks I discovered that I could think around it:

"Ah … her mind is expanding," Emmett said, "becoming like ours."

"I'm not sure yours ever did 'expand'," Rosalie teased him.

Bella thinks I could count the breaths that came from somewhere close beside me:

"I wonder who that is," Emmett smirked, staring at Edward.

"Shouldn't he be with Renesmee?" Esme frowned.

"We could bring her up to him," Alice said. "I'm sure she would like to see her mommy, too."

"Okay," Esme said.

Edward says Bella can you hear me:

"It seems like she just can't win with you," Emmett shook his head.

"Yeah, now you're going to start worrying because she's not doing anything," Jasper chuckled.

Carlisle says listen to her heart, Edward, it's stronger than even Emmett's was:

"She's stronger than you, Emmett," Jasper teased.

"She isn't," Emmett said. "It's just her heart."

"Yeah … well, we all could have figured out that her heart would be stronger, couldn't we?" Esme smiled.

"I suppose so," Carlisle smiled too.

"But it still doesn't mean that she's stronger," Emmett pouted.

"Oh, she will be stronger than you," Jasper reminded him. "I really hope she remembers to challenge you to that arm wrestling match."

"She's not going to beat me," Emmett stated confidently.

Carlisle just resumed reading at that point.

Edward says but she's so still, I must have done something wrong:

"Yeah … everything is working just right … Eddy must have done something wrong," Emmett laughed.

Bella thinks where is my baby, why aren't they talking about her:

"Because, obviously, Eddy is too worried about you now," Emmett chuckled.

Carlisle says, I wonder what Bella will think, whose side she'll take:

"That is a good question," Emmett said. "What will Bella do when she finds out about the imprint?"

"That is a tough one," Jasper said thoughtfully.

"I bet she'll kill the pup," Emmett laughed. "Well, maim him at least."

"Okay," Jasper said. "I guess I'll take you up on that bet."

Emmett grinned.

Bella thinks were they talking so mysteriously just to annoy me:

"I often wonder that," Emmett chuckled.

"And sometimes you're right," Alice smirked at him.

Alice explains why she can't see Renesmee or the wolves, because she was never one, but she could see humans because she used to be one, and vampires because she is one now:

"That makes sense," Carlisle said, and Alice made a face at that.

Edward says focus, Alice:

"You're the one that asked her if she was bitter," Emmett said. "If you don't want her to answer, you shouldn't ask."

Alice says I couldn't see right two days ago, but she's free of all the blind spots, it's a piece of cake:

"Two days," Carlisle said. "That was quick."

"Yeah, a venom-shot to the heart must work wonders," Emmett chuckled.

Bella thinks that the fire in her throat changed, it was dry as bone, so thirsty, burning fire and burning thirst:

"Now that she mentions it, I am kind of thirsty," Alice said.

"You should have gone hunting with the rest of us then," Emmett teased.

"I had more important things to do," Alice shrugged her shoulders.

O

New

Bella thinks I could see all of the color of the rainbow and an eighth color I had no name for:

"We call it yamon," Emmett said.

"We do not," Edward rolled his eyes.

"It should have a name," Emmett pouted.

"Not that name," Edward said.

"Why not?" Emmett asked.

"I'm not going to have this conversation with you again," Edward groaned. "Especially not now."

"You're right … I want to know what happens with Bella," Emmett said.

Bella thinks the dust was so beautiful that I inhaled in shot, the action felt wrong:

"You get used to it," Emmett said.

"Is it really that weird?" Alice asked. She didn't really remember breathing … or anything else about being human, so everything she did as a vampire just felt natural.

"Yes," Edward said.

Bella thinks this was not the touch I expected, it was the wrong temperature, not cold:

"I'm not cold to you anymore," Edward smiled.

"But it does make sense that she would react that way," Jasper said. "Seeing as that's what she's used to."

Bella thinks what I hadn't grasped immediately was that I was the danger:

"That's a funny thought," Emmett said.

"But true … who knows how she's going to react," Jasper said. "She seems to be doing well so far, though."

Bella thoughts on Edward's voice ending with instrument more profound than any created by man:

"Well, it looks like she's still thinking about you quite a lot," Alice said.

"That's true. When I was that young, the only thought I had was how thirsty I was," Jasper said smugly. "I'm so going to win our bet, Em."

"Whatever," Emmett pouted. "It's not over yet."

Bella thinks I tried to remember Renesmee's face, but it was irritating to try to see through the human memories, her face was shrouded in darkness:

Esme frowned at that, thinking about the nearly faded memories of her son. She could empathize with her, but at least Bella would be able to see her child again.

Bella describes what Edward's touch is like ending with and trembled in my stomach:

"Yep … she definitely still wants you," Emmett laughed.

"I suppose I'm irresistible," Edward said smugly.

"Hey … you're really smiling, Eddy," Emmett said. "I don't think I've seen you this happy since Twilight."

"Whatever," Edward shrugged.

Bella thinks wait wasn't I supposed to lose this, wasn't giving up this feeling a part of the bargain:

"Guess not," Edward smiled. "This is a nice development."

"Wow … a normal response from Eddy," Emmett said. "This book is insane."

Edward says um carefully Bella, ow:

"Aw … is Bella crushing little Eddy?" Emmett laughed, and everyone else was laughing, too.

"Hm … I have a feeling that he might be crushed a few more times," Jasper said. "What with the way that Bella always seems to react to you."

Bella says oops:

"Aw … her first word as a vampire," Alice coed.

Bella thinks I remember Edward saying once that his kind were easily distracted, I could see why:

"That comment wasn't really true when I said it," Edward said, "or at least not in the way that I meant it."

"Yes, but we do get distracted easily," Emmett said.

Mentions Edward kissing Bella ending with hard on to any coherent thought:

"Way to go, Eddy," Emmett cheered.

"I can't believe I did this in front of you all," Edward grumbled.

"You must not have been able to control yourself when she was this close to you," Jasper smirked.

"After all that worrying you've been doing," Alice added.

Mentions it was like he never kissed me before, in truth, he'd never kissed me this way before:

"No holding back anymore," Emmett laughed and Edward was starting to get a little uncomfortable, but at the same time he was smiling.

Mentions it made be feel guilty, I couldn't be allowed to have this too:

"She feels guilty about that?" Emmett laughed. "She feels guilty about being happy?"

"And you're surprised because?" Jasper asked.

"Don't know," Emmett shrugged. "Stupid thing to feel guilty about, though."

Carlisle says you are quite controlled, more so than I expected, even with the time you had to prepare:

"And I think he'll find that she's even more controlled than he's thinking she is," Carlisle said.

"Er … you'll find that out?" Emmett questioned.

"Yes," Carlisle said. "Her thoughts are so much more … Edward you were around for the others … you must notice a difference."

"Of course, I do," Edward said. "Everyone is different, but what's remarkable about her is she's not thinking about blood … not all the time, that is. Or perhaps I should say that it's not her forethought … But I can't say I don't like this development …."

"I wonder why that is, though," Carlisle said.

"Wait a second … does this mean that you're both thinking that Jazz is right about her?" Emmett pouted.

"Of course, they do," Jasper smirked.

"There never was a person that went through what Bella did," Edward said, ignoring his brothers completely. "That must have done something to her that just made transition easier for her."

"Maybe," Carlisle allowed.

"But you have to admit that Bella had some vampire characteristics before she was changed," Emmett said. He wasn't going to let Edward ignore him this time. "The most unique one being her ability to block other people out."

Carlisle smiled at that, trying to guess what her ability would be like now, "But that didn't stop Edward from going through the newborn stage … I don't know about Jasper or Alice, but he was … difficult."

"And yet he waited ten years before he rebelled," Jasper said thoughtfully.

"It doesn't mean that I didn't go through what they did," Edward said. "I did, and I know I did," he said pointing at his head.

"Point taken," Jasper said. "And I know I was just like any other newborn, too."

"Yeah, well, it's not like you were given a choice," Alice said. "You were placed with other newborns, and you had to feel what they did …."

"But what about you?" Rosalie asked.

"I don't really … I saw Jasper right away," Alice said. "I didn't exactly live virtuously, but I don't know if I was a normal newborn either. Then again, I've never seen a newborn that was in a family like ours … are any of us normal?"

"No … I would never call us normal," Emmett said, saying the last word as if it was dirty.

"Still, I think it has to be more than just that," Carlisle said, getting back to the point.

"I'm sure we'll come up with something soon enough," Edward said, but motioned for Rosalie to read all the same.

Carlisle asks Tell me what you remember of the transformation process:

"Being made to stay still and lots and lots of pain," Emmett said.

"Somehow, I don't think that's what she's going to say," Alice said.

Edward says Renesmee is healthy and well, and Edward said the name was understated fervor, a reverence, the way devout people talked about their gods:

"Told you … wrapped around her tiny fingers," Emmett chuckled.

"Oh, I want to see her," Esme said and Rosalie nodded her head in agreement.

Bella says, it's hard to remember, it was so dark before, and then I opened my eyes:

"A total blackout … that sounds kind of farfetched to me," Emmett said.

Carlisle says amazing:

"But evidently Carlisle doesn't think so," Jasper teased.

"I hope she tells me that this really wasn't the case at some point in time," Carlisle frowned.

Carlisle says sorry Bella, of course your thirst must be uncomfortable, this conversation can wait:

"Er … she wasn't thinking about that," Emmett said.

"She should be," Edward said.

Bella thinks me? Hunt? With Edward?

"It will come to you naturally," Jasper said. "Though it takes a while to get the finer parts in tune."

"And of course, you're going to go hunting with me," Edward smiled.

Edward says I was under the impression you wanted to see me hunt:

"And she was under the impression that it would be dangerous for her to be around you then," Alice said. "It looks like it's hard for her to come to terms with the fact that she's a vampire now."

Edward says I don't want you hurting, in a voice that she would not have been able to hear before:

"I wonder if I wanted her to hear me or not," Edward mused. He would have to get used to her being a vampire too.

Bella drops her hand to her stomach and that was now flat and empty, and notes that Alice must have dressed her:

"Of course, I did. I couldn't leave you a bloody mess, could I?" Alice asked. "And what do you mean insignificant?"

"She really needs to see her daughter …." Esme said, "as quickly as possible."

"She will, but I think it's best that she hunts first at the very least," Carlisle said.

"Yes … you're right," Esme agreed, but she could understand Bella's pain here.

Edward says Bella there's much to discuss, but we should take care of you first, you have to be in pain:

"Why aren't you telling her about the mutt?" Rosalie asked.

"One … now's not the time for that," Edward said.

"And two?" Alice questioned.

"I don't know," Edward said. "But I'm sure my book-self has another reason."

Alice wants to show Bella her reflection:

"Alice … it's not the time for this," Edward said.

"Come on, Edward. It will only take a second," Alice rolled her eyes.

"Whatever," Edward sighed.

Edward says Alice, and Alice say it will only take a second and Edward sighs:

"Well, it's nice to know that we don't change much, isn't it?" Alice teased.

"Speak for yourself," Edward grinned, and everyone chuckled at that … Edward really had changed a lot in the book … and in this room too.

Mentions that Jasper was so silent that Bella didn't notice him, then he hovered over Alice, his eyes locked on my expression, because she was the danger:

"Come on, Jazz, relax a little," Alice rolled her eyes.

"You know I can't do that," Jasper shrugged.

Bella thinks I knew he was tasting my mood, so I knew he felt my jolt of shock when I studied his face for the first time:

Jasper sighed at that.

"It's a shocking thing to see," Rosalie said, "but you get used to it."

"Didn't make it any easier for us the first time you showed up though," Emmett said. "I was rather displeased when I realized you weren't there for a fight."

Bella thinks hard to believe that even a vampire could survive so many sets of teeth ripping into his throat:

Alice shivered at that, and Jasper wrapped a calming arm around her.

Bella wonders how many vampires had tried to kill Jasper, hundreds, thousands, the same number that had died in the attempt:

"No, actually, I didn't kill every one of them," Jasper said. "A few were killed by the vampires I was fighting with."

Mentions Jasper takes a step towards her alarmed by her sudden anxiety, he knew young vampire, so was this a misstep on Bella's part:

"I wouldn't say misstep," Jasper said. "But it's an increase in emotion and that could go the wrong way."

Bella says no I'm fine, it's just a lot to take in:

"So in control of herself," Jasper muttered. "I wonder how she's doing it?"

Bella asks Disappointed and Edward answers yes:

"EDWARD!" all three girls yelled at him.

"How could you say that?" Esme growled. It was such an unusual occurrence coming from her that Edward flinched a little.

"I don't know," Edward said, holding up his hands.

"You are such a jerk," Alice hissed.

"I'm sorry," Edward said.

Edward says I was hoping I could hear your mind now that it's more similar to mine:

"Argh," Alice groaned and Rosalie and Esme continued to glare at him. "You're the biggest jerk."

Edward says you're making Jasper more edgy by the second, he may relax a little when you've hunted:

"Why are you so edgy, Jazzy," Emmett asked.

"Because Bella is not normal …." Jasper shrugged. "I guess that has unnerved me."

O

First Hunt

Edward says don't worry you'll be fine:

"No, Bella, be the world's first clumsy vampire," Emmett said, smiling evilly.

"You know that's not going to happen," Jasper said. "You're just going to have to find your entertainment somewhere else."

"Ah …." Emmett sighed. "Well, I'm sure she'll provide some form of entertainment."

Bella thinks I was the monster now, trigger my wild side:

Emmett snorted at that.

"What? She's right," Jasper said.

"It's just funny to think of Bella with a wild side," Emmett said, laughing.

Edward says trust me she's safe I know exactly what Jacob is thinking:

Edward shivered at the thought.

"That's even worse than knowing the thoughts of a guy dating your sister," Emmett laughed.

"Though it wouldn't be so bad right now," Carlisle said. "It would be more of a familiar love right now."

"That sounds bad enough to me," Edward grumbled.

Bella thoughts on her outfit ending with what did she think I need it for:

Alice sulked.

"I bet she looks amazing in it," Jasper said. "Just like everyone you dress."

"But she doesn't like it," Alice winced.

"Sure, she does. She's just not comfortable hunting in it," Edward said, trying to cheer Alice up enough so that she would read.

"And knowing Bella, I'm sure she'll ruin the outfit," Emmett said and three vampires were now glaring at him - Alice because she hated the thought of the outfit getting ruined, and Jasper and Edward because of his stupidity. However, it did get Alice to read again, so Edward's glare didn't last too long.

Mentions Bella ripped the dress open and then fixed the other side to match:

"No!" Alice said gravely. "How could she?"

"I'm sure she'll get better at wearing clothes in the future," Jasper tried to calm his wife down.

Edward says very good, his casual tone didn't match the surprised expression in his eyes:

"Why so surprised, Eddy?" Emmett asked.

"She's pretty good at jumping," Edward said.

"I think it has to do more with the fact that you're used to her being human," Jasper said. "You have to get used to the idea that she's not so breakable anymore."

Mentions and soon he was trying to keep up with me, I laughed again, when I heard him falling behind:

"That's mean, Eddy," Emmett said.

"How do you know she's not really beating me?" Edward asked.

"Because I know you," Emmett said. "And she knows you're the fastest … you're just trying to make her feel good."

"It's working, isn't it?" Edward shrugged with a smile.

Edward says elk, I thought something easy for your first time:

Edward chuckled at that.

"And boring … don't forget to mention boring," Emmett said.

Bella thinks as soon as I started thinking about the burn in my throat, it was all I could think about, and it's getting worse:

"Still, the fact that it's not what you're always thinking about … that's incredible," Jasper said. "She's doing better than even I thought she would."

Edward says now close your eyes, then he raised his hands to my face and stroked my cheekbone:

"So, are you trying to distract her?" Emmett asked.

"I think it's more like I can't keep my hands off of her," Edward smiled.

Bella thinks that I centered around the scent of the male, the hot spot in his shaggy neck where the warmth pulsed strongest:

"Argh," Alice grumbled. She was really starting to get thirsty. Edward and Carlisle looked similar; neither one of them had hunted when the others did.

Mentions the wind shifted and Bella didn't stop to think but hurtled out of the tree racing after a new fragrance so attractive that there wasn't a choice:

"No," Edward said, going rigid.

"Humans!" Carlisle gasped.

"How could you let this happen, Edward?" Alice asked. "You should have sensed if there were any humans around!"

"I don't know," Edward said. "I must not have thought of this."

"You must be pretty thirsty yourself," Jasper said. "I don't think you've hunted since you were on Isle Esme."

"But …." Edward groaned. "I was supposed to stop her from doing this."

"So, you guys slipped once … It will be okay," Emmett said.

"You're just happy because you made a bet …." Edward growled at him.

"It's not that …." Emmett said impatiently. "Edward, we've all slipped … except for Carlisle and Rosalie, of course … it's just part of who we are."

"But this is me slipping … a slip that will haunt her," Edward frowned.

Alice decided that it was time to read.

Bella continues describing the hunt ending with it was instinct to protect myself from danger, self-preservation:

"Oh, dear," Esme said, knowing that Edward must have been following her. That was the only thing that might have triggered this sense and that could be dangerous for Edward.

Edward, on the other hand, would gladly take anything she would do to him if it stopped her from hurting a human … knowing what it would do to her conscience.

Bella continues describing ending with the thirst driven haze receded, though the thirst burned on:

"I didn't know that snarling had that effect on people," Emmett chuckled.

"It doesn't," Jasper said, looking at the book incredulously, not wanting to voice the thought that had struck him in just that moment. Edward looked at him curiously and hopefully but didn't say anything.

Bella realizes that she was about to attack Edward, so she gets out of her crouch, held her breath and feared the power of the Fragrance:

"What the hell?" Emmett said. "She's stopping?"

"I can't believe it!" Alice said.

"She's … I … impossible," Jasper said.

"It's not over yet," Carlisle said, his tone was incredulous, too.

Edward was stunned, but he was smiling proudly at this.

Mentions of Bella running away ending with impossible to find, evn if I changed my mind:

"I can't believe she actually did that," Jasper repeated.

"Her compassion must be almost as strong as yours, Carlisle," Esme said.

"She certainly has me surprised here," Carlisle smiled. "I'm not sure if even I could have done that. I never was in the middle of a hunt with a person so close to me back then."

"Yeah, but you stopped yourself from feeding on a human all the same," Edward said. "That's not to say that Bella isn't amazing of course. She's incredible."

"There's no reason why you should be so smug about this," Emmett grumbled.

Mentions a new thought occurred to me and I stopped:

"Why did she stop?" Alice asked.

"I told you she wouldn't like this," Emmett said in a singsong voice and Edward just shrugged.

Bella says but I growled at you:

Everyone was now laughing … Bella would worry about something like that.

"I knew she would still be entertaining," Emmett said through his laughter.

Bella thinks I had to watch my temper, just like I was a young werewolf rather than a vampire:

"Er … I don't think rather is the best word there," Jasper said. "It should be like a young werewolf, a young vampire has to keep their cool, too."

"I'll make sure she knows your correction there," Edward smirked.

"Thank you," Jasper nodded his head.

Edward explains to Bella ending with you are behaving like you are decades rather than days old:

"It certainly seems that she is meant to be a vampire," Alice said. "You have to admit, she makes a good one."

"I suppose," Edward said, trying not to smile this time.

"Are you going to change your mind about that then?" Alice asked.

"It's getting harder to keep to my old convictions," Edward sighed.

"I thought you already saw this happening," Rosalie said. "When Edward heard Renesmee's thoughts."

"No, I just saw him deciding to meet her," Alice said. "There is a lot that has to happen for this future to come about … I mean, Bella has a choice to make, too."

"But she's already picked Edward in the book's reality," Esme said, suddenly worried.

"I know, and I'm sure she will in this reality too, but she still has to choose her own destiny, doesn't she?" Alice shrugged.

"I didn't know you could be so generous about something like this," Edward teased. "I thought you would force her to do whatever you wanted."

Alice stuck her tongue out at him before she started to read again.

Edward says what wouldn't I give to see into your mind for just this one moment:

Everyone chuckled at that.

"I'm glad I have these books," Edward said, even if they weren't what the Bella he was going to meet thought … they were, in a way.

Bella thinks I been so sure it wouldn't be the same when he touched me and it's not the same, it's stronger:

"Because you feel the way that vampires love … it's so clear … nothing could break it," Edward smiled.

Mentions that it was a warm scent, sharper than the elk and more appealing:

"Ah, so she found herself something more dangerous," Emmett chuckled. "Well, at least her first meal will be better than an elk!"

Mentions of the mountain lion clawing her and its teeth on her shoulder and throat:

"I fear you were right about the outfit," Alice sighed.

"I think she needs some pointers in the art of hunting," Emmett chuckled.

Mentions of Bella drinking the blood ending with heating even my fingertips and toes:

"I think we might have to do a short hunting trip after this," Alice said.

"No way … you had your chance before," Emmett smirked.

"I would prefer to keep reading," Edward seconded, though he was looking just as thirsty as Alice was.

"Fine," Alice pouted. She was going to wait, because there was no way that she was going to miss any of this.

Mentions Edward doesn't come home from hunting trips looking like this:

"No one comes home from hunting trips looking like that," Emmett laughed.

"I don't think I mind that," Edward said with a far off look.

"What are you thinking, Eddy?" Emmett asked, chuckling.

Mentions that Bella was afraid seeing him hunt would have made Edward look like a vampire to her:

Edward frowned at that.

"Then it's a good thing she could never have gone hunting with you before," Emmett said.

"I don't think that's what she's thinking now," Alice said.

"It would be a little hypocritical if she did now," Jasper chuckled.

Mentions even with my human eyes I would have missed the beauty here:

"Sure they would have … you wouldn't have been able to see Eddy at all," Emmett said.

"That's not exactly true … she did see us when we were practicing … she might have seen him," Jasper said.

Bella thinks that if she could resist a human stranger, she would be able to handle the werewolf and half vampire child she loved:

"Yes, I think so," Edward smiled.

"I hope so," Esme said. "She needs to see Renesmee."

Bella thinks I probably can't do anything interesting and special like Edward, Alice and Jasper:

"Er … you already do something interesting," Edward frowned.

"Yeah … she blocks you," Emmett chuckled. "That sounds so interesting."

"She blocks everyone," Edward reminded him.

"I'm sure that's her gift," Carlisle said.

Bella thinks maybe I would just love Edward more than anyone has ever loved anyone else:

"Not possible," Jasper said immediately and wrapped his arms around Alice.

Mentions nothing seemed real that I hadn't seen with these eyes touched with these hands:

"Stop distracting her, Edward. She needs to see her daughter," Esme said sharply.

"I'm sorry," Edward said.

"It doesn't seem that Edward has much control over himself at the moment," Jasper teased.

"I have some," Edward muttered.

Bella says Renesmee and gets up:

"Good," Esme said.

"That was the end of the chapter," Alice said.

"Good," Edward said. "And I agree with you, Esme, I'm looking forward to seeing what Renesmee is like."

"Me too!" Rosalie said so quickly that when everyone else said it, it sounded like they were echoes of her own statement. "So hurry up and read already!"

O

Promised

Edward describes Renesmee to Bella ending with she sleeps:

"Really?" Edward smiled, "I might like to see that."

"Unless she's dreaming of the pup …." Emmett started laughing, but stopped when two vampires growled at him.

Bella thinks Edward makes it sound like Renesmee was having conversations:

Edward paused there. "That's true."

"It seems like she's highly developed," Carlisle said. "Much more than I thought she would be."

"Then she's like her mum in that way, too," Emmett laughed.

Edward says though she doesn't speak yet, she communicates quite effectively:

"Speak yet?" Edward gasped. "She's only two days old!"

Edward says I think it would be easier ofr you to see, it's rather difficult to describe:

"Er … what does that mean?" Emmett asked, puzzled.

"I'm sure we'll find out," Edward answered, a little anxious now.

"Ah … I was hoping you were done with that," Jasper sighed, and everyone looked at him a little oddly, except for Edward.

"Sorry," Edward shrugged.

Bella thinks that it seemed odd that she needed Jacob so much then, and that sense of absence without him near had vanished:

"I wonder if that's true," Carlisle mused.

"What do you mean?" Emmett asked.

"Well, I wonder if it wasn't Renesmee all along that drew them together even before the pregnancy," Carlisle said. "Maybe some part of them always knew this was going to happen."

Edward hissed at that. "I don't like that theory at all."

"Well, it would mean that Bella never loved the pup," Alice pointed out. "Not really."

"But that means that he was messing with my life trying to take both my girls away from me," Edward hissed.

"I suppose," Alice smiled at him.

"Ah, Edward," Esme said, beaming at his words and the love that shone through them.

"Still, you can easily avoid the whole mutt issue in the first place," Rosalie pointed out.

"Yes … I like that plan," Edward smiled.

"I don't know if that's right," Carlisle said, and two vampires were glaring at him and everyone else was staring with various degrees of irritation. "First off, Jacob was Bella's friend, and she might like to know him … is it right of you to take away that friendship, Edward?"

"I suppose not," Edward admitted grudgingly. "But if she never met him … if I never left like I did in New Moon, then this issue would never come up."

"Perhaps not," Carlisle said, "but it would still be wrong of you to try and control her relationships. Second, it's not only Jacob's destiny that's involved with the imprint."

Edward and Rosalie's glare intensified there, but Carlisle continued on.

"I know you don't want to hear this," Carlisle said softly, "especially so soon after she was born, but the love that is described regarding imprinting … wouldn't you want your daughter to find a love like that?"

Edward was glaring more than ever. He really didn't want to hear this now … before his daughter was even born.

"I'm sorry," Carlisle sighed, reading his face. "I shouldn't have said this now."

"I would have heard it anyway," Edward said, his voice hard and angry.

"Then you know what else I'm thinking about," Carlisle said. "That Bella's and your fate was more intertwined than anything else, because none of this would have happened without that."

"Yes," Edward said, his tone a little lighter at that thought, but he was still annoyed.

Edward says I promised Jacob that I would let him explain, I doubt you will see it different, but I have been wrong about you before:

"I doubt you will be this time," Rosalie said. "And why are you following any promise that you made to him?"

Edward didn't answer, he was too angry to answer that right now, so he just started reading again.

Edward says don't breathe:

"If it's the mutt, you shouldn't caution her against that," Rosalie hissed.

"Rosalie!" Esme hissed. "I know you don't like him, but he doesn't deserve to get hurt."

"And she wouldn't be able to live with this if it went too far," Edward said grudgingly, "even when she knows about the whole imprinting thing."

Jacob asks you think it would be better to let her near the baby first:

"No," Rosalie said grudgingly, "but we already know that she's probably not going to find his blood appealing … not with his stench."

"That's true," Carlisle said. "However, a test like this could never hurt."

"I think the fact that she didn't kill the hikers is a better test," Jasper said. "I'm sure she'll be fine with the baby."

Edward says it's your neck, I guess:

"See … you want her to attack him too," Rosalie said smugly, and Edward smiled.

"Maybe a little."

Bella wonders what was with Edward, she had thought maybe foolishly , that Edward and Jacob were sort of friends now:

"Do you think you were his friend?" Emmett questioned.

"The book seemed to have suggested that," Edward said, but he had been too worried about the future imprint and Bella's safety to even think about how he felt about the dog. "And there are times he doesn't seem too bad," he added, thinking about how he had helped Bella in the other books. He tried to stop thinking about that, he didn't want to like the mutt right now, he was too angry for that.

Bella thoughts on how her and Jacob's friendship was intact ending with he was just my friend, the way it was supposed to be:

Carlisle was thinking that it was like the way they were before Jacob had transformed, and Edward frowned.

Mentions was Jacob really so selfless that he would try to protect me:

"Oh, we know the mutt isn't that selfless," Rosalie hissed. "All his thoughts are about himself."

"Not all his thoughts," Esme argued. "He was protecting us."

"Whatever," Rosalie hissed.

Mentions but this seemed too much to accept from anyone:

"Okay, she's got to stop praising him," Rosalie said through gritted teeth.

"No, she doesn't. It's just going to make her anger all the better when the truth comes out," Emmett laughed.

Bella says I can see what everyone's been saying, Jacob you stink:

Everyone laughed at that.

"That's one obstacle down," Emmett said.

Mentions and then Jacob was in my way, his face a mask of worry:

Edward hissed at that.

"Get out of the way mutt!" Rosalie shouted.

"You have no right to stop us!" Edward said in a deadly voice, hating more than ever that this mutt thinks he has a claim on his daughter, his two-day-old daughter!

Bella thinks the stranger-child in Rosalie's arms had to be weeks, months old:

"She's growing fast," Edward said; his tone was a little worried, but he continued to read before anyone else could voice their worries … and hopefully before they could even think about them.

Description of Renesmee ending with even Charlie had a place in her thick curls, though their color matched Edward's:

"Aw!" the girls all cooed.

"I want to meet her so badly," Rosalie moaned and Alice nodded her head.

Mentions that Alice was the only one who held her place:

"Hah, at least I have some faith in her," Alice said smugly.

"You can also see the future," Edward pointed out.

"So," Alice shrugged.

Bella thinks there was enough of the sweet vampire smell to keep the human part from being overwhelming:

"Good," Edward said. "Though, I could do with her smelling a little less human …."

"Bella's not going to hurt her," Alice rolled her eyes.

"I know that," Edward shrugged.

Mentions that though Jasper was getting it firsthand, he didn't seem as certain:

"What's the matter, Jazz?" Alice asked.

"She must be too controlled," Jasper shrugged. "She's not behaving like a newborn at all … I guess it's too difficult for me to believe that."

Edward says listen Jasper, on the hunt she caught the scent of a hiker who was in the wrong place, then mentions of Carlisle shocked breath:

"You paused there on purpose, didn't you?" Emmett asked, knowing that's what happened.

"Probably," Edward chuckled. "I would try to get the dramatic effect."

"Yeah, it will make telling us what actually happened so much better," Emmett laughed.

Mentions that Jasper's eyes widened but he nodded just a tiny bit, as if Edwar's words answer a question in his head:

"And what is that?" Edward asked.

"If she had human blood … it would make her more controlled than if she had animal blood," Jasper answered softly, though he knew that Edward already knew the answer to that. "She would be less thirsty."

Mentions of everyone's reaction to what Edward said, finishing with Alice, who was not fool, but was more worried about what happened to Bella's dress:

Everyone laughed at that.

"Of course, I am," Alice said. "As I would have seen that she decided to run from the hiker."

Bella says Edward and is embarrassed by the stares, like they were trying to see brighter red in her eyes:

"Edward, you tell us the truth now," Esme said sternly. "You shouldn't let her feel embarrassed like that."

"Sorry," Edward said, "but I'm just so proud of her."

Alice says tasteful joke, Edward:

"Thank you Alice," Edward smiled.

"Dork," Alice rolled her eyes again.

Bella says he's not telling it right, he left out the part where I growled at him:

Everyone laughed at that.

"She really is upset about that, isn't she?" Alice chuckled.

"Doesn't seem to realize that it only being a growl shows her control even clearer," Jasper smiled.

"You really don't seem to be reacting like you are in the book," Alice pointed out.

"No, but that's because I've accepted the fact that Bella is going to do things that I thought were impossible," Jasper shrugged. "Why worry about them?"

Mentions it seemed that everyone had a hand on Renesmee, patting and soothing, everyone but me:

"Definitely wrapped around her finger," Edward chuckled.

"I hope she doesn't get spoiled," Esme muttered.

Bella describing Renesmee showing her an image ending with trying to understand what was happening, struggling to hold on to my calm:

"Is she putting that memory in her head?" Carlisle gasped.

"It seems so," Edward said. "But you've been thinking this was likely what was going to happen since she touched Rose … why are you so shocked?"

"In Bella's head!" Carlisle emphasized.

"Oh," Edward gasped, his eyes going wide. "It's through her barrier," he added and then started to pout. "Why couldn't I do that?"

"That's not important," Carlisle said in an excited voice.

"Yeah, Eddy, that doesn't matter at all," Emmett teased.

"Sorry," Carlisle bowed his head. "I didn't mean it like that …."

"I understand," Edward said. "You're just curious why Renesmee can do it."

"Yes," Carlisle said. "Though, I think before I come up with any theories, it would be best to hear exactly what she is doing."

"Alright then," Edward agreed, beginning to read without delay.

Bella says um, me, I think, but I looked terrible:

"It wasn't terrible," Esme said, thinking only about the smiling and the need Bella had to hold her baby … that was a good look.

"She …." Emmett started, looking incredulously at Esme, but Edward shook his head. He agreed with his mom's thoughts.

Carlisle says it's an interesting twist, like she's doing the exact opposite of what you can:

"Yes, that is what I was thinking," Carlisle said excitedly and everyone chuckled at that.

Bella thinks that Jacob is staring at Renesmee like he was a blind man seeing the sun for the first time and gasped no:

"I think she's got it," Emmett laughed, as were the younger Cullens.

Bella says you stupid mutt, how could you, my baby:

Emmett and Jasper were now laughing so hard that if everyone hadn't been vampires, they wouldn't have been able to hear Edward reading.

Mentions but I felt no pursuit behind me:

"Edward," Esme said, disappointed.

"It's not going to happen right now, I can tell you that," Edward said. "Though, I won't let her really hurt him."

Jacob says c'mon Bells, Nessie likes me too:

"Nessie?" Emmett asked.

"The mutt nicknamed her Nessie!" Rosalie hissed.

"I kind of like it," Alice said. "And you have to admit that Renesmee isn't exactly easy to say."

"She's not a freaking mythical monster!" Rosalie growled.

"But she is," Alice said. "Or at least part of her is."

"Argh," Rosalie groaned. "What do you think about this, Edward?"

"I'm sure it's going to catch on," Edward admitted, not sure if he liked it or not.

"But what about little nudger?" Emmett pouted. "I liked that name."

"Only Bella knows that one," Alice pointed out.

"Right," Emmett sighed, "I guess I'm okay with Nessie."

Bella says what did you call her:

"It doesn't sound like Bella likes it either," Emmett chuckled.

Bella says you nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster, and then she lunged for his throat:

"And I like it a lot better now," Emmett laughed.

"I hope she doesn't hurt him," Esme fretted.

"That was the end of the chapter," Edward said, handing the book to Emmett.

O

Memories

Edward says I'm sorry Seth, I should have been closer:

"Ah … that's sucks, the cub must have gotten in the way," Emmett sighed.

"Hmph," Rosalie huffed, irritated by that too.

Describes how Belal attacked and Jacob hadn't tried to defend himself, but Seth had jumped in and broke his shoulder and collarbone:

"The poor cub," Emmett said really sympathetic.

"Though, I think that might have been one of the few things that could save the pup's life," Jasper said.

"You say that like it's a good thing," Rosalie grumbled.

"It is," Edward admitted through gritted teeth, "and I have plenty to be sorry for …."

"But only because the cub got in the way, right?" Emmett asked. "You would have been happy as a clam if the pup was the one hurt."

Edward didn't answer that. He was well aware of the glare that Esme was giving him, but yeah … he would have been just fine with that.

Edward says no one is judging you, you're doing so well:

"She's not going to like that," Jasper said. "You know it might be better if you just let her apologize."

Seth starts to say, what with Jake an Ness … then broke off mid-word:

"Yeah, don't want a repeat performance," Emmett laughed.

"As if she could really get that angry with the cub," Jasper smiled.

Bella says I'm a bad person:

Edward frowned at that.

"Where did she get that one from?" Alice furrowed her eyebrows together.

"Yeah, she's not a person anymore," Emmett said seriously, trying not to laugh.

Edward and Alice just glared at him.

Bella thinks everything physical was so easy, but the res …:

"Is rather easy for you too," Edward said.

"Especially compared to what you could be like," Jasper said.

Mentions that Leah alternated between anxious glances and murderous glares:

"Why is she glaring murderously at her brother?" Emmett asked.

"Idiot," Rosalie groaned.

Mentions that Jacob and Rosalie agreed that Bella should be kept away from the baby until she was over her temper tantrum:

"Just keep the dog away and I'm sure she'll be fine," Edward muttered. "I'm sure you're just using this as excuse to hold her longer."

"Maybe," Rosalie just shrugged.

Mentions that the truce between Sam's pack was more binding:

"Because of Renesmee," Carlisle said.

"You mean because of the imprint," Edward hissed at him, he could tell that Carlisle was trying to be diplomatic and he didn't really have patience for that.

"Yes," Carlisle said, reading Edward's reaction correctly. "I would think that the bond would make them sort of family to us … in-laws, I guess you would say."

"Argh," Rosalie groaned. "Why did you have to say that?"

"Sorry," Carlisle said.

Bella thinks it rankled to realize how much I owed Jacob:

"We don't owe him what he got from us," Edward hissed. "That is far beyond what he did for us."

Mentions that Jacob and Sam could speak to each other while in their wolf form:

"Ah … I was wondering about that," Carlisle said.

"You knew this was coming?" Jasper asked. He was surprised but intrigued by it.

"Well, when Jacob first chose to be Alpha, he was still able to talk to Sam, right?" Carlisle said and Jasper nodded. "But we didn't hear one thought from the other wolves, did we? And the next thing we know, they can't hear each other … It seemed odd to me. I thought something like this must be happening."

"Okay, but why?" Jasper asked.

"That, I don't know," Carlisle said. "I wonder if there ever were two Alphas back when they used to have too many wolves."

"If you're just going to ask more questions, could we please get on with the story?" Emmett whined.

"You know, you have the book. You could have just continued reading and that would have stopped the conversation," Alice pointed out.

Before Emmett could do that or make a comment to Alice, Carlisle said, "I would think they might have, if the pack was this large. And if they did, it only makes sense that they would be able to communicate in some form."

And that's when Emmett started reading again.

Mentions that after Sam understood what happened he came to visit Carlisle and renewed the treaty, but the friendly feeling might never be the same:

"Yeah, right … I'm sure everything will be fine in no time," Emmett said, though Carlisle and Esme looked saddened by this news.

Bella thinks there was still my idea, letting Charlie see her, ending with even if I was strange and different and probably frightening to him:

"Yes, that would be better," Esme said.

"And that description really sells that," Emmett said.

"It doesn't matter what she looks like. He would be happier knowing that she's alive," Esme said firmly.

Mentions that Bella's eyes were too frightening, and how long before her control and eyes were ready for Charlie:

"A long time … though, I'm mostly talking about the eyes," Jasper said. "I think a month to be safe would be enough for your control. I mean, we wouldn't want to put him in danger."

"Ah, she can handle it now," Emmett chuckled. "She didn't kill those strangers."

"It's better to be safe than sorry, especially in this case," Jasper said.

Mentions Bella wished that Jacob was her brother so they could love each other without confusion, family, but she never factored a daughter into the equation:

Edward was really frowning at this. She had grown close to him, and not just in the way that she said she was in love with him. He was her closest friend. And right now, he hated more than anything what the mutt put him through in the last book.

Bella remembers wondering who Jacob would end up with and thinking that whoever it was wouldn't be good enough for him:

"Well, you were completely wrong about that," Edward said and everyone in the room agreed with him.

Bella thinks what would the separation from Renesmee do to Jacob, would it cause him pain:

"Who cares?" Rosalie scoffed.

"Actually, it seems likely that he would have to come with us if we leave," Carlisle said.

"You're joking!" Rosalie glared at him.

"No," Carlisle said simply.

"Why the hell would we bring him with us?" Rosalie hissed.

"I'm not sure if the separation would be good for Nessie," Carlisle said, using the reason Rosalie would accept easiest. Though, he thought the child wouldn't suffer as much as Jacob did, he thought that she might have bonded with Jacob as well.

Edward hissed at this point and Carlisle frowned, trying not to think of it.

"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" Rosalie said. "And don't you use that stupid nickname!"

Mentions that Carlisle came down stairs with hand full of odd things, and then Edward says it must be six:

"Can't you just tell us what's going on?" Emmett asked impatiently.

"Why are you glaring at me? I don't know any more than you do," Edward said.

"You're the one that said something stupid like knowing the time," Emmett said.

"Er … you're not making any sense," Edward frowned at him.

"You know what they are doing, and you know that Bella wouldn't know what's going on, but instead of just explaining to her, you said 'must be six'," Emmett said, imitating Edward voice perfectly. "Can't you just explain it to her?"

"Apparently not," Edward said, his mouth thin and it was hard for him not to laugh. Alice and Jasper had an even harder time of it.

"Annoying … smug … jerk …." Emmett muttered and then continued to read.

Mentions the difference between Renesmee now and an hour ago was subtler, but it was there:

"Even an hour ago?" Carlisle muttered, frowning.

This wasn't good, everyone thought at the same time.

Mentions that if this rate of growth held:

Everyone shivered at that thought.

"It's not really going to work like that, is it?" Rosalie asked.

"I don't know," Carlisle frowned. "I just don't know."

Again, everyone shivered.

Bella thinks I felt irritated that Jacob was stilling her lines but delivering them all wrong:

"Yeah, Pup, shut up," Emmett said. "It would be a lot better coming from Bella."

"Don't you mean funnier?" Jasper corrected and Emmett nodded his head.

Mentions that Renesmee smelled good in a very non-food way:

"Always a good thing when you're talking about your kid," Emmett smiled.

"That's not funny, Emmett," Esme narrowed her eyes dangerously at him.

"Sorry," he sighed.

Bella wonders how the room felt to Jasper, or if he was so focused on her that he couldn't feel the others:

"That's very considerate of her," Alice smiled.

"And I can feel everything, even if I'm trying to concentrate on one thing," Jasper answered Bella's question.

Mentions the flavor of Renesmee's memory, not protective, more possessive, as she watched Jacob:

Edward groaned at this.

Rosalie did too, thinking that Carlisle might have a point about the mutt coming with them … argh.

Mentions Renesmee showing Bella everything she missed ending with sent a flash burn through my throat, ouch:

Everyone tensed a little by that, except surprisingly, Jasper. He seemed to realize that Bella wouldn't do anything with that memory, even though it made her throat burn. Not with the way that she had handled it in the last chapter, and even the one before it … she knew how to control her thirst like he had never would have thought possible. Of course, he was tense a second later because the room was so full of tension that he couldn't help himself.

Bella asks what did I do:

"Nothing, apparently," Edward chuckled. "It looks like you're right, Jasper."

Jasper just shrugged, pleased that everyone seemed to be relaxing again.

Edward says, and nothing at all it seems, the overreaction is mind:

"She's just a freak no matter what she is," Emmett said.

"She's not a freak!" Edward hissed.

"Yes, a very loveable freak," Emmett laughed, and Edward rolled his eyes, but didn't argue anymore … there was no point in arguing with Emmett when he was like this.

Mentions but what is wrong with Jasper:

"Yeah, Jasper, what's wrong with you?" Emmett asked. "And why aren't you wrong in this room?"

"I already said, I've come to expect the impossible from Bella," Jasper smiled, and then added in a sadder tone, "and I might be a little annoyed that it's so easy for her."

Alice grabbed his hand in support but didn't say anything.

Mentions of discussion about how many people I would kill my first newborn year:

"Obviously, it's not going to be high," Jasper said, smirking.

"Yeah, yeah," Emmett grumbled.

"You know, I seem to be winning more of the bets than you," Jasper teased.

"Whatever," Emmett sighed. "It's not like you won them all."

Edward says, Jasper was upset for himself, worrying about self-fulfilling prophecy:

"How so?" Carlisle asked the Jasper in the room.

"Er … I don't know," Jasper replied. "I never really thought of that … not yet anyway."

Edward says, if the new born madness is as difficult as we thought or if with the right focus and attitude could anyone do as well as Bella:

Jasper was frowning at that; that was an interesting question.

Edward says, even now Jasper wonders if he has difficulty because he believes it's natural and unavoidable, and if he expected more of himself, he could rise those expectations:

"I wonder if that's true," Jasper said.

"Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy," Alice chuckled. "You wouldn't have thought about this if you weren't told you thought about this."

Jasper smiled at her, though he was still thinking about what was just said. He was going to have to raise his expectations and see if that would help.

"That's only going to work if you really raise them," Edward said.

"True, but haven't I already agreed that I would try?" Jasper sighed. "That I would make sure that I never attack Bella by any means necessary …?"

"That's true," Edward agreed.

Bella thinks what if I didn't have to be a newborn ending with if I could be a good vampire right away:

"It seems so implausible, but I think she just might do that," Edward said.

"It doesn't really seem implausible," Emmett said.

"I didn't mean now, after we've seen what she can do," Edward rolled his eyes. "I meant in the sense that it's impossible to believe any newborn could act this way before this."

Carlisle explains about Siobhan and her 'gift' and how she gets what she wants if she wills it into reality:

"How many times did something like this occur?" Jasper asked.

"I'm not sure," Carlisle answered, "but I've seen her do it a few times myself."

Jasper nodded his head, thinking that Carlisle might have a point there.

Mentions Renesmee showing Bella more things ending with or the song Edward had crooned to her that so perfect Renesmee played it for me twice:

"You composed her a song already?" Esme smiled.

"Apparently," Edward smiled, too.

"Have you thought of it too?" Esme asked, thinking about how Edward had played Bella's lullaby when they had heard about it in the book.

"I've been thinking of something," Edward admitted, "but it's not concrete yet."

Mentions Bella lifts Renesmee's hand so she can see her dreams:

"It looks like Eddy isn't the only one that might get to see her dreams," Emmett smiled.

Mentions more than Edward or Rosalie, I was neck and neck with Jacob:

Edward didn't seem to be fairing so well with that. "She sees the mutt more than me," he muttered.

Alice says happy birthday:

"Oh," Edward said and then smiled. "I wonder if she will accept gifts better now."

There was a pause before everyone answered at once, "No."

Alice says we're not celebrating your vampire birthday, it's September thirteenth, happy nineteenth birthday:

"Oh, yeah, she's really going to like that one," Emmett chuckled. "Ah … that was the end of the chapter," he was now pouting, as he handed the book to Esme reluctantly.

"You know, if she doesn't want to count her vampire birthday as today, we'll just have to celebrate them both separately," Alice smiled evilly.

"I'm sure she'll like that idea," Edward chuckled.

"Oh, she'll love it," Alice smirked.
