*Author's Note - I know this is a short chapter, but it is pretty much all outlined in the book. Some things from the book will be written out and expounded on, but some things will be short and to the point because the book covers it well enough.*

"Hey Jake, a few people are getting together to watch Face Punch tonight. Wanna join?"

"Definitely! I was wanting to go see that. Who all is going?" Jake was turned with his back to me finishing working on the motorcycles we had been rebuilding together. Even though he thought it was a horrible idea, he still did it because he knew it was something I wanted.

"Oh, just a few people from school. Jessica, Angela, Eric, Mike, you and me. That's pretty much it," I seriously hoped he wouldn't change his mind when he heard that Mike was going. Ever since Mike had asked me out the first week of school last year, Jacob had had a hard time accepting anything about him. "I really want you to go with me. Mike asked me to go to the movies, and I said yes. I used to have a reason why I didn't ever say yes. Now, I don't. I felt like I was obligated to say yes, but I didn't want to go alone so I asked the group if they wanted to go with us.

"Oh, so, I am your pity date?"

"No! Not at all! I want you to go. If I could cancel and it just be us, I would. But I already told everyone about it and they said they'd come. Canceling now would just be a bad idea."

"So," Jake dropped the wrench onto the concrete floor of his garage, "is this a date?"

"No, just a group outing." I corrected quickly as I played with the hair hanging out of my low ponytail.

"Seems like everyone is coupled off though. I mean, Jessica and Mike, Eric and Angela... Could it be a date?" The interest in his voice was evident all while hesitant at the same time. His back was still turned to me, but the tension in his shoulders as he waited for my response was clearly marked.

I took a quick breath and said, "Jake, please, I want you to go with me, but just as my friend tonight, ok? Besides, Jessica and Mike never really were a couple. They just went to prom together last year." Jake nodded and picked up the wrench again and got to work on the bike again.

"Do you want me to pick you up from Charlie's or just meet you there?"

"Actually, I am actually really hungry. Do you want to go grab dinner at the diner? It's Thursday. Steak and cobbler night for Charlie, so..." looking at my watch I continue, "he should be getting there soon."

"Sure, that sounds good. Let me run inside, clean up and change my shirt and then we can go." Jake stalked over to turn off the radio. I tried not to see the hurt in his eyes as he looked at me before jogging to the house.

*I love you Jake, I really do. Just not that way.*
