*Author's Note- I know the last chapter had a lengthy excerpt, pretty much directly from the book, but it was essential to tell the story and not lose any of the main core plotline. Bear with me, this chapter is pretty similar to the book as well, but I promise, the next few chapters will begin to deviate, showing where I am going with the story. Also, I do mix the movie scene in with this chapter a bit as well, just because I liked the drama of it. Sorry, in advance, to all the book purists. I hope you can tolerate the deviation.*

Bella

The next morning, bright and early, I pulled up to the Blacks' house with my lips pressed together into a hard line. It was bad enough that my best friend was a werewolf. Did he have to be a monster, too?

The house was dark, no lights in the windows, but I didn't care if I woke them. My fist thudded against the front door with angry energy; the sound reverberated through the walls.

"Come in;" I heard Billy call after a minute, and a light flicked on.

I twisted the knob; it was unlocked. Billy was leaning around an open doorway just off the little kitchen, a bathrobe around his shoulders, not in his chair yet. When he saw who it was, his eyes widened briefly, and then his face turned stoic.

"Well, good morning, Bella. What are you doing up so early?"

"Hey, Billy. I need to talk to Jake-where is he?"

"Um... I don't really know," he lied, straight-faced.

In my anger, I really couldn't handle anymore lies, so I pushed past him.

"Sorry Billy, but I don't believe you, and I need to talk to Jake." I swing the door open to Jake's bedroom and there is Jake. Passed out on the bed, fully clothed, shoes still on.

Suddenly, movement in the tree line catches my attention and I see five tall, shirtless guys emerge, all whooping and calling for Jake. Before I really know what I am doing, I turn on my heel, and practically run out of the house toward the small group of guys.

"What have you done to him!?" I accuse as I push Sam's shoulders. Paul steps up like he's protecting Sam.

"Stand down, Paul!" Sam orders and immediately, Paul shrinks back, looking a bit like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar.

"He didn't want this! He was perfectly fine without any of you!"

"You call weak and clueless, perfectly fine!? We saved him!" Paul fires back at me, only to be stunned when I reach out and slap him right across the face.

"Ohhh, now you've done it!" Embry laughs and taunts. Meanwhile, Paul begins to violently shake and growl.

"Get back, Bella!" Sam yells at me and I take a few confused steps back as I see Paul's clothes shred and suddenly a huge wolf stands in his place. I turn to run, promptly fall on my ass, then scramble to right myself when I hear the screen door slam and Jacob runs out yelling my name. The only thing I can think to say is, "Jake, RUN!"

Instead of turning to run away, Jake runs full speed toward me and just as I brace for impact, he jumps and by the time I turn around, a large russet wolf lands, still running toward Paul. In a flash of snarls and growls, Jacob and Paul are at each other's throats.

"Take Bella to Emily's. We'll meet you there later." Sam orders as he runs to the tree line where Jacob and Paul have disappeared. I can still hear them fighting and snarling.

"Come on Bella. Let's go. You can meet Sam's fiancé."

"Stunned, I feel Embry lead me to the passenger side of the truck. I hear all of them laughing and placing bets on who is going to win, but right now, I can't think of anything other than the fact I was right. Jacob is a werewolf.

We pull up to Emily's house. Embry shuts off the engine then turns to look at me. "Look, don't stare at Emily. It bugs Sam." But before I can ask him to clarify, Embry is out of the truck, so I follow suit.

Walking up to the door, I begin to ask, "What do you me-"

At that moment, a beautiful, raven haired woman comes to the door, "I wondered when you boys would get here. I am pulling some muffins out of the oven now. Who's this?" Emily asks, all while giving me a big smile.

Already stuffing his mouth, Embry pipes up, "This is Bella Swan. Chief Swan's daughter."

"Ah, so you're the vampire girl."

"So, you're the wolf girl." I reply in jest.

"I guess so."

"Although, I wouldn't say I'm the 'vampire girl' anymore. The Cullens left."

"Ha! Good Riddance, I say!" Embry calls from the table, stuffing a second muffin in his mouth.

Emily gives me a hug, and although I am shocked at the friendly act, her hug is warm and welcoming. "Well, come have a muffin. Before they are all gone. And believe me, they soon will be." She chuckles, then smacks Embry on the back of the head, "Wait for your brothers, huh?"

I grab a still-warm, extra-large muffin from the large basket on the table, sit down and watch Emily in the kitchen pulling a pan of muffins from the oven. Just about the time I pull off a bite of muffin, Sam comes through the door. He kisses Emily, and turns to look at me as Paul and Jacob walk through the door.

"All good?" Sam asks.

"All good." Jacob answers. He looks at me and nods his head at me and motions for me to follow him outside. Remembering Emily's words about the muffins, I grab a couple and head for the door. I desperately want to be mad at him for not telling me, but I just can't. Something tells me there's more to the story.

On top of all that, I just have way too many questions.
