There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.

Chapter 23: Hard Truth

"We regret to have to relate this to you, but the overwhelming information we've collected backs up the Flatwoods Monster's reconnaissance, sky. It indicates the alien responsible for the recent attacks throughout Mutsuba Town is the original Kaburagi Chupataro, and you're the clone, sky." Fisher Sukai handed Chupataro a manila envelope with the intel they'd gathered.

"So it's true, chupa." Chupataro's lips creased into a sad smile. "Well! Chupa knew that was the likeliest outcome, chupa!"

"But you wanted to be sure, sky."

"He seemed to want to be sure, for sure, chupa!"

"Yuhi-san doesn't care if you're a clone, but he believes you do, so he's searching for chances to extend you a positive development, sky."

"Is that your opinion, chupa? He may just be searching for a way out of our relationship, cabra!"

"That's nonsense, sky. Your defence mechanisms don't fool us, sky."

"Is that your opinion, chupa?"

"We've always been watching, sky. It hasn't always been easy for either of you to admit your feelings, but we know what you and Yuhi-san mean to each other, sky. We've seen everything, sky."

"Some people would call that a breach of privacy, chupa!"

"We call that diligent detective work, sky. And what is it Yuhi-san used to say, sky? 'You're not a person,' sky?"

"Funny, chupa. Now he won't let Chupa think that, chupa! Chupa's real, cabra!"

"Do you feel real, sky?"

"If you're as thorough at detective work as you claim, you already have the answer to that question, chupa!"

Sukai tipped their hat to him. A secret was only a story Fisher Sukai hadn't cracked yet.

"We believe you've moved on, sky."

"Chupa better get going, chupa!" Chupataro didn't validate or invalidate Sukai's assessment. "Wouldn't want that guy to worry, chupa!"

"You aren't planning on keeping this from Yuhi-san then, sky?"

"No, Chupa will tell him as soon as Chupa sees him, chupa. The Chupa that wouldn't…That was the old Chupa. Cabra."

Sukai approved.

"Answer Chupa this, skyfish: You see everything, chupa. Is he in it for the long game, cabra?"

"If you're half the honourable person we've watched you evolve into, we have reliable info to surmise you're on your way to ask Yuhi-san that question yourself, sky. Sky, sky, sky~! Ba-da~!"

"So Chupa-yarou really is the original…" Yuhi drooped. "Sorry, Chupataro."

"Don't apologize, chupa. The skyfish just authenticated what Chupa already knew in Chupa's heart, chupa."

"But…"

"Now that it's 100% confirmed, chupa…Can you still love Chupa, cabra?"

"Course I can!"

Chupataro split apart his new robot's hatch and stepped down. "Even when Chupa's like this, chupa?"

Yuhi intentionally clipped himself on Chupataro's spikes.

"Hey, what are you –? Stop that, chupa! Why are you –?"

"THIS! This isn't anything!" Yuhi submitted his cut-up hand. "If I get to hug you, THIS DOESN'T HURT AT ALL!"

Yuhi! Chupataro took his hand in his claws and licked the cuts for the blood to clot quicker.

"On second thought, it does hurt! Ow, ow, ow, ow!" Yuhi whined like a baby until Maki-san came and bandaged it properly for him.

"Idiot, chupa."

"Hehehe. Anyway, thanks for not goin' behind my back. The old you wouldn't've been as considerate!"

Second time that day that was raised.

"So? How was Sukai? All healed up from Goha Yuna's abuse yet?"

"As far as Chupa can tell, chupa. Chupa's never trusted them though, cabra."

"Understandable."

"But do you want to hear Chupa's real opinion, chupa?"

"What?"

"Chupa thinks you aren't the only child in your family who has a thing for aliens, chupa!"

Yagi-san and Maki-san eavesdropped.

"Only child in my family who…What? You talkin' 'bout Yuamu? What does she hafta do with –?"

Chupataro gave Yuhi an "Oh, really?" look.

"Yuama…with Sukai? Get outta here!"

"Don't be surprised when they ask us to return the favour and be there for your sister's walk down the aisle, chupa!"

Yuhi stopped chewing on the meatless yakitori stick in his mouth. Chupataro realized too late what he said.

Maki-san blocked a giggle with her glove.

"Chupa! Uh, ah, uh, Chupa means –! Chupa means –!"

Yuhi was shocked, but grinned and glossed over Chupataro's latest slip-up, chocking it up to Chupataro's overconfidence in presenting his argument. He kissed Chupataro on the cheek, having way too much fun needling him.

"Chupaaaa!" Chupataro shrank in on himself, covering his eyes with his claws. He legitimately hadn't thought or dreamed of that with Yuhi prior to this moment, but now that it was out there, he couldn't unthink it!

Chupataro didn't even know if that was the future he wanted. Humans were fickle. They didn't mate for life as Chupataro's species did. Yuhi may decide Chupataro wasn't for him at some point, and oddly, Chupataro was okay with it. He was resigned to the likelihood Yuhi might outgrow his affinity towards him.

Infinite Impermanence.

It was bound to happen in a relationship between a human and an alien. MIK's statistics skewed toward such relationships having a high rate of failure, in no small part due to MIK heavily regulating human/alien unions.

Don't have a Gold Earth Permit? You can forget it!

Chupataro reposted himself astride his robot's command console and wandered off.

"Yuhi-bocchama! Rush! Rush! GO! Rush!" Maki-san pressured, and he rolled with it.

"Chupataro, did I say something wrong? I was just kidding around!"

After a prolonged pause, Chupataro kidded around himself to deflect the attention off him.

"So…Your sister likes Navel, chupa?"

"YUCK! CHUPATARO!" Yuhi speculated whether the Tastee aliens who replaced the brains of anyone they encountered with miso paste ever invented brain sanitizer.

"Chupapapapa-pabra!"
