Colonel Mcnamara is speaking on the phone with Hekmetyar.

Mcnamara: We believe some of your people are recording our embassy.
Hekmetyar: Ofcourse. We know that, when this is over, your side will accusse us of certain things. By recording it, we will be able to show the world what really happened.
Mcnamara: Journalists from all over the world are reporting what is happening.
Hekmetyar: Countries that have a long history of demonizing muslims. You'll understand why we are skeptical of their claims of being neutral.
Mcnamara: If you are recording dissidents with the intention of eliminating them, there will be consequences.
Hekmetyar: Do not accuse of things we haven't done.

Kambiz is driving towards the ceremony, he's almost there, he can almost hear the Americans cheering their warriors. Then Kambiz gets a call, from his friend Aslan. Aslan knows what he is supposed to do, why would he be calling now?

Kambiz: Why are you breaking radio silence?
Aslan: I am trying to find my wife, I was hoping you knew her location.
Kambiz: I don't. So forget about that whore, and get back to your job.
Aslan: After how she dishonored me, she must pay.
Kambiz: We are not here for personal vengenace, we are here to defeat the great Satan. So do your job, and we will see each other in Paradise soon.

Kambiz hung up. He feared that if they lost this battle, it would be because of fools like Aslan. But that wouldn't be his problem much longer. In less than ten minutes he planned to be dead.

Vice-president Keaton was at the ceremony, shaking hands, thanking these returning veterans for their noble service.

Jack Bauer is making burgers and hot dogs for everyone. He can see little Teri, and how "Uncle Tony" is kidding her about rooting for the Orioles instead of the Cubs. Jack has been able to bond with his granddaughter over baseball, but at her age she seems to mostly like the bird as the Orioles mascot. These friends might be misfits, but it's good and neccessary to enjoy these moments with loved ones. Than Jack gets a call on his cellphone. This is an old number, Chloe programmed this new phone to also receive calls from some of Jack's old numbers, just in case some old informant needed help. Jack asked Audrey to finish cooking while he took this call inside.

Jack: Hello?
Melanie: Jack Bauer?
Jack: Yes, who is this?
Melanie: This is Melanie, Melanie Daniels.
Jack: I remember you now, what do you want?
Melanie: I need your help.
Jack: So turn yourself in to the police.
Melanie: I can't, Aslan said he has people in there, who would kill my baby.
Jack: You have a child now?
Melanie: Yes. Aslan knows it's not his, he swore to kill me and my daughter. Please, I overheard him talking, i have some details about what he's planning. Promise to protect me and my baby and I'll help you.
Jack: Okay, where are you?

Jack got Melanie's location and prepared to leave. Tony stopped him.

Tony: Where are you going Jack?
Jack: I have to see an old associate, I doubt she'll speak to anyone else.
Tony: Who?
Jack: Melanie Daniels.
Tony: I know who she was. Back when Gardner was putting muslims in concentration camps, Melanie started talking online with the extremists, got herself in over her head, and joining Alqueda. Then, you she was one of the people you used in your scam to force the world to disarm.
Jack: Only she was part of the faction that betrayed me and Ishmael, tried to make certain that only "true muslims" had the Cordella virus. Now, she's been marked for death by her husband, so has her child.
Tony: And you trust her?
Jack: I don't know. But if there's any chance she can help stop a terrorist attack, I have to go.
Tony: It could be a trap, I should come as back-up.
Jack: Okay, I just need to say goodbye to Kim and Audrey first.

Vice-president Keaton is now making a speech before the crowd.

Keaton: My friends, no words can express the gratitude your country feels for you and your service. You have served this country well, and America is better because of it.

Kambiz has reached the ceremony, he sees american soldiers in uniforms, reconnecting with their families. Kambiz thinks to himself "Enjoy it while you can." As his car reaches the parking lot he asks the security guard about Keaton.

Kambiz: Is the vice-president here?
Guard: I'm afraid not, he's at the ceremony in Maryland.
Kambiz: A pity, I would have liked to shake his hand.
Guard: Guess he doesn't have time to come to Virginia today.

Kambiz is dissapointed, killing the vice-president woud have been preferable, but not neccessary. He then detonates, and the explosives in this car detonate. Kambiz, the security guard, and other nearby people are killed instantly.

Split screens show the immediate aftermath, president Allen being told about the explosion in Virginia, Jack and Tony leaving the barbeque early, colonel Mcnamara trying to manage the chaos of the fleeing refugees, George Mason at CTU Washington being informed of the recent bombing.

George Mason is informed by Jamey Farrell of the security cameras at the bombing.
.
Jamey: This was apparently the car used in the bombing. The licence plate matches that of a car reported stolen about 30 minutes ago.
Mason: That doesn't make sense. Alqueda wouldn't risk stealing a car before a bombing.
Jamey: I can't say for certain what the bomber was thinking, but it seems the car was registered to a man on the watch list, Jack Bauer.
Mason: Why would Jack deliberately kill american soldiers?
Jamey: I don't know sir.
Mason: At any rate, we definitely need to question Jack Bauer immediately.
