Tyler can see the Panic Room, knowing that his target is only a few feet away, yet she might as well be on the moon for all the good it does him. Tyler tries to interrogate Aron Pierce.
.
Tyler: Tell me the code for opening the door.
Pierce: There is no code, it can only be opened from the inside.
Tyler: I know I am not going to survive this operation. Unless you cooperate neither will you.
Pierce: You can threaten me all you want, it doesn't change the fact that I cannot open the door.
Tyler: Unfortunately, I believe you.
.
Tyler radioes his men, instructing them to bring all hostages to this room. Hopefully they can find the president's husband, or their daughter. For now Tyler decides to keep Aron Pierce alive, at least until a more valuable hostage is brought to him.

Vice president Keaton has officially been sworn in as acting president. Allen's chief of staff, Jim Gardner, advises him on this matter.
.
Keaton: We still don't know if president Allen is alive or not.
Gardner: No sir. If she made it to the Panic Room she would have contacted us by now.
Keaton: We know that someone has cut off the Panic Room's communications, how is that even possible?
Gardner: That's a very good question sir, to be honest we don't know. We do know that president Putin has already publicly denounced this attack. He did it very quickly, almost as if he knew it was coming.
Keaton: He has access to CNN, ofcourse he was quick to denounce it because he's worried about retaliation.
Gardner: I believe you should consider ordering the National Guard to take the White House back.
Keaton: They're mobilizing now correct?
Gardner: Yes sir. Within twenty minutes they'll be ready, just waiting for you to give the order.
Keaton: The terrorists have threatened to kill the president if we do this.
Gardner: We have to consider the possibility that she's already dead.
Keaton: Unfortunately that's true. Let me know when they're ready, I'll make my decision then.

Horace Allen meets with Carl Webb.
.
Horace: Okay, what exactly do you want to talk about?
Carl: I take it you haven't listened to the news on your car radio.
Horace: What are you talking about?
Carl: Certain, friends of mine, have taken the White House.
Horace: Is this some sick joke?
Carl: I have no sense of humor, a side effect of my work.
.
Horace then used his smartphone to access the news. Sure enough all the stations were talking about the terrorists who had taken hostages at the White House.
.
Horace: What the hell have you done?
Carl; Believe it or not, I helped saved your life.
Horace: But my parents, my sisters.
Carl: I don't know how it will turn out. Maybe your mother will survive and resume her duties, maybe not. If she does, people will wonder why exactly you left just before the attack. They will get very suspicious. Hopefully your mother really will do anything to protect you.
Horace: What if my mother dies?
Carl: We have our way of dealing with Keaton, should he become president.
