"Have you ever noticed how Emily looks at you?" Will asked his wife Jennifer.
"What do you mean?" Jennifer asked, confused at the random question.
"She doesn't look at you like she looks at Derek or Spencer or Garcia or anyone on the team. She looks at you with that certain sparkle in her eyes. It's very obvious that she's in love with you." Will explained.
"I don't know what you mean. I'm her best friend. Plus she's had a boyfriend in the past. I highly doubt she likes girls." Jennifer defended Emily.
"Just because she had a boyfriend doesn't mean she doesn't like girls. She could be bisexual or even decided that she was lesbian because she decided that she didn't like to date guys." Will presented with posible facts. JJ stood there processing the fact that her best friend might be into girls. "I have a little dare for you." Will said with a smirk.
"This can't be good." JJ mumbled.
"It'll be fun. I dare you to go up to Emily when you see her next and ask her out on a date. When she says 'yes' it'll just prove my point that she's in love with you." Will dared.
"Even if she does like me she's going to say 'no' because I'm married to you." JJ stated.
"Just tell her that we're getting a divorce or something." Will suggested.
"And what about Henry?" JJ asked.
"He's only one. He'll be fine. Plus it's not like we're actually getting a divorce. If you decide to take things further, I give you guys three months tops before you break up." Will said.
"I don't know, Will. That's just cruel especially since I don't actually want to date her." Jennifer told her husband.
"Come on, babe. Plus, if you do this, then it will just prove my point." Will responded.
"Will, I-I can't do that to my best friend. If she found out that it was just a dare, then I would lose her forever. She would also never speak to me again. I can't risk that." Jennifer said.
"Please?" Will asked. JJ sighed but gave in to him. "I'm betting 100 she says 'yes'." Will added.
"Yeah, well she's going to say 'no'." JJ said. JJ realized that she would have to face Emily the very next day bright and early in the morning for work. She most definitely was not looking forward to it because she didn't want to hurt Emily. But she wanted to prove Will wrong, so that's the only reason why she's doing it.
When JJ woke up in the morning, she had the urge to put on a little extra purfume and lotion but decided against it. She did her normal routine before going to the BAU. After walking in and seeing Emily already sitting at her desk, she began to feel very nervous. She just wanted to get it over with so she could concentrate on the rest of the day. So after setting her things down at her desk and getting a cup of coffee, she walked over to Emily very nervously. "Hey, uh, can I talk to you in private?" JJ asked. Her hands were already shaking and starting to get sweaty.
"Yeah. Is everything okay?" Emily asked, looking concerned.
"Yeah everything's fine. I just need to ask you something." JJ said. Emily nodded her head, and so JJ took Emily to her old office and shut the door. "So I, uh, wanted to ask if you wanted to go to dinner with me tonight." JJ said, hands finding their way to each other and holding onto each other while resting against her stomach.
"Sure! Are we discussing something with Garcia tonight?" Emily asked.
"I actually mean just you and me. As in a date." JJ said. Her heart felt as if it was pounding out of her chest.
"I don't get it. You're married, so why are you asking me out on a date?" Emily asked with a very confused look on her face.
"W-will and I are actually getting a divorce. We've decided that it's okay for each other to date again." JJ hesitantly said.
"JJ why didn't you tell me? What happened?" Emily asked.
"I guess we just fell out of love for each other." JJ answered.
"Are you sure that you're okay dating again?" Emily asked. JJ nodded her head 'yes'. "So why are you asking me on a date and not Reid or Morgan?" Emily asked. JJ took a deep breath and looked down at the floor. She closed her eyes and let out a single tear, knowing that if Will was right, then this will break Emily if she found out it was all a dare.
"It's you that I like and not them. They're like brothers to me, and it'd be weird if I dated them. But with you, you're like home to me." JJ said. Emily smiled and started to blush a little bit. Right then and there JJ knew Will was right, and she's going to lose her friendship with Emily forever.
"Are you sure about this?" Emily asked. JJ smiled and nodded her head. Emily smiled even bigger. "Okay. I'll pick you up around 7? Will that give you enough time to get ready?" Emily asked.
"It should." JJ replied.
"Okay. I will call a certain restaurant and make us a reservation." Emily said.
"But you have to book, like, six months in advance! How are you going to get a reservation for tonight?" JJ asked.
"Oh trust me. I have my ways." Emily said with a smirk and walked out of the office to go back to her desk. JJ wondered what Emily meant by what she said, but shook her head when she realized that she should be focusing on the fact the Will was completely right.
It was a very uneventful day for the BAU that mainly consisted of paperwork. JJ couldn't focus very well because she kept thinking about how Emily actually liked her. JJ wanted to know why and when it happened. "Are you leaving, or are you planning on working over?" JJ heard. She looked up and saw Spencer. She then looked and saw everyone else walking to the elevator. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"Have you ever done something really bad and messed up even though you knew how horrible it was?" JJ asked.
"We all make mistakes in life. But at the end of the day, you need to ask yourself why you did what you did and figure out if there were any underlying reasons as to why you made the decision. We aren't perfect, and no one will ever be perfect." Spencer said. JJ nodded and gathered her things. "If anything's bothering you, you know you can talk to me right?" Spencer asked.
"I know. I just need to work some things out." JJ said. Spencer nodded his head, and they walked to the elevator. JJ was trying to figure out how to get out of going on a date with Emily. She couldn't break her heart. As JJ was driving home, she received a text message from Emily.
I can't wait for tonight! xx
JJ couldn't bring herself to make an excuse, so she replied saying the she couldn't wait either. When she walked through the door, Will looked at her with that look. "You were right. We have a date tonight. She's picking me up at 7." JJ said.
"Well that was fast. Let me know how it goes." he said.
"How are you okay with this? I'm playing my best friend, and all you seem to care about is proving a point." JJ said with anger.
"You didn't have to follow along with it, but here you are. So my question for you is, if you're so angry about it, then why are you following through with it? Are you more curious than what you think you are?" he asked. JJ was going to respond, but she didn't know how to. She actually didn't know the answer to his questions. "My point exactly. Now let me know how it goes." Will said. JJ went up to their room and decided to get ready. She found a dress that she hasn't worn yet because her and Will haven't been on a date since she purchased it. It was a classy, emerald green, wrap ruched satin dress with a draped collar. She paired it with a pair of nude stilettos. After figuring out her outfit, she decided to do her makeup. She just went for a full face of makeup with a really simple eye look. Running out of time, JJ decided to just curl her hair and then put it up in a high ponytail with her overgrown bangs on one side. A few seconds after she finished her hair, she heard a knock on the door. She rushed down the stairs after grabbing her clutch and answered it. Emily stood there with a small bouquet of flowers. She had on a black, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit with a slight v-neck paired with black stilettos. She had her hair in a side low bun and slightly more makeup than what she had worn to work.
"You look stunning." Emily said, breaking the long few seconds that were spent staring at each other.
"Thank you." JJ said, looking down at the ground feeling herself blush a little bit. Emily's complimented her before, so why was she blushing this time?
"These are for you. I know it's cheesy, but I know how much you love pink dahlias and pink roses." Emily said, handing the flowers to JJ.
"Guys always assume I like red roses." JJ said.
"Well, luckily I'm not a guy then." Emily said with a smile.
"You look gorgeous, by the way." JJ said.
"Thanks." Emily said. This time she was the who was blushing an looking at the ground.
"Let me go put these in water, and I'll be right back." JJ said. Emily nodded and waited for JJ. When JJ entered the kitchen, she saw Will standing there with a smirk. JJ rolled her eyes and proceeded to add water to a vase and put the flowers in it.
"She didn't get you red roses? Those are your favorite." Will said.
"Actually, they're not. Pink dahlias and pink roses are my favorite flower combination. I don't like red roses because those are the flowers my dad got my mom the night he cheated on her because he felt bad. So she wins a point for knowing my favorite flowers." JJ answered. JJ walked back out to Emily and tried her best to not think about the entire situation being a dare.
