Chapter 5 Enzuk POV

It had been days. It felt like eternity.

Per Aro's demand, I found myself reluctantly bound by the restriction of not approaching Isabella. Typically, I would brush off such instructions and continue with my own pursuits, but this time, deviating from the rules would not only impact me but also have consequences for Isabella. So, I begrudgingly complied with Aro's command, even though it proved to be one of the most arduous challenges I had ever faced.

Uncertainty surrounded the timing of Aro's judgment upon Isabella, leaving me in a state of confusion. And…panic. I wanted to see Isabella so bad. I-I missed her. I missed her smile. Her yes. Hell, even her scent.

Aro's words, however, left no room for misinterpretation - I was explicitly forbidden from approaching her until his verdict had been reached. But damn. Each passing day, I had to constantly remind myself that my self-imposed distance was for Isabella's own welfare. I couldn't be selfish and endanger her because I wasn't strong enough to be away from her. I had to find wasys to control my emotions.

I couldn't help but notice that even Melxa, who had always been friendly and approachable, seemed to be avoiding me lately. He creatively evaded me every time I saw him. I couldn't blame him. I knew I was hounding him for answers.

It dawned on me that my constant pestering for updates about Isabella must have become tiresome for him. Every time I caught sight of him outside the laboratories, I couldn't resist bombarding him with questions, hoping for any shred of information about her well-being. His answer was always the same… 'no news yet, but I'll keep you posted.'

I found solace in the mundane routine of patrol missions and hunting, as they provided a much-needed distraction from the constant thoughts of her that consumed my mind. With nothing else to occupy my time, I threw myself into these tasks with unwavering determination. The thrill of the hunt, the adrenaline coursing through my veins, momentarily numbed the ache in my heart. Each step I took, each target I pursued, allowed me to momentarily escape the haunting memories that plagued my thoughts. Sometimes, in those moments, I could almost forget the pain of being away from Isabella by losing myself in the primal instinct of survival.

Hunting became my refuge, a temporary respite from the weight of her absence.

As I stealthily maneuvered through the dense forest, every fiber of my being became attuned to the surroundings. The rustling leaves, the faint sounds of wildlife, and the earthy scent of the wilderness filled my senses, heightening my anticipation. My gaze fixated on a particular target, the Norflogs, known to be one of the most formidable and aggressive creatures inhabiting our planet.

The creatures possessed a ferocity that matched their territorial nature, making them a worthy adversary. It was precisely the challenge I sought, the exhilaration of testing my skills against such formidable opponents. The mere thought of engaging in a battle of strength and cunning with the Norflogs sent a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins.

With each step, my determination grew, fueled by the desire to unleash all the pent-up energy, anger and frsuteration within me. The forest seemed to come alive, echoing my anticipation, as if it recognized the imminent clash between predator and prey.

As I closed in on a Norflog, my heart pounded in my chest, matching the rhythm of the wild. The challenge that lay ahead fueled my every move, sharpening my senses and honing my instincts. I knew that this encounter would push me to my limits, demanding every ounce of strength and skill I possessed. This Norflog, in particular, was an alpha. And I was about to show him who the true alpha was.

"What are you doing," I heard a sharp whisper come from behind me as I stalked the drinking Norflog. It was Japher, my actual blood brother. "Don't you dare. Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

I smirked. "I can take him."

He scoffed. "Yeah. Over your dead body. No one attacks Arcal. He's been around for years. And there is a reason for that."

"If you're scared go back and hide in the bush."

"I'm not scared," he said defensively. I just don't think this is a smart idea."

The majestic creature known as Arcal, abruptly shifted his attention toward me, his piercing gaze suddenly fixated on my presence. With a sense of caution, his eyes narrowed, revealing a hint of suspicion, while his formidable tusks rose protectively, ready to ward off any potential threat. A low growl escaped his throat, resonating with a primal warning, as his powerful claws dug deep into the ground, marking his territory with undeniable authority.

The sound of his snort reverberated through the air, a clear signal of his dominance, as he forcefully pounded his feet against the ground, a resounding declaration for me to retreat from his domain.

Japher put his hand on my shoulder. "That's the sign to leave. Enzuk. Come on. Let's get out of here."

As the tension hung in the air, Arcal and I locked eyes, refusing to yield. The intensity of our gaze revealed the unspoken desire that burned within me - to possess his majestic tusk. Oh I had fought Arcal before. Our history was marked by countless clashes, where I had valiantly fought against him, only to be defeated and pushed back. He was powerful. And I had returned the very next day to prove my worth, only I didn't end up fighting Arcal. Instead I was challenged by another Norflog and I triumphed over that Norflog. It was a Norflog that belonged to Arcal's pride. The victory was sweet, but it came at a cost - it ignited a fire of anger within Arcal.

Yet, despite his fury, Arcal remained within the confines of his territory, refusing to cross the borders to pursue me. This act of restraint spoke volumes about his respect for the boundaries we shared. It was a silent acknowledgment of the unspoken rules that governed our encounters, a testament to his understanding of the delicate balance between us.

And so, our silent standoff continued, each of us refusing to back down. The unspoken rivalry between us fueled the intensity of our gaze, as we both knew that only one of us could emerge victorious. The stakes were high, but I was determined to claim what I desired - Arcal's magnificent tusk. I never cared about the other Norflogs. Only Arcal.

"You can fight him another day," Japher said. "A day when I'm not here to talk some sense into you. Come on. Let's hunt some Bauras."

I took a step back. Still, the intensity in Arcal's eyes was palpable, his muscles tense and ready for action. He raised his head even higher, his majestic mane flowing in the wind. With a thunderous roar that echoed through the air, Arcal declared his dominance. The ground beneath him trembled as he forcefully stomped his hooves, sending a clear message that he was not to be challenged. It was a challenge, a display of his strength and dominance. He was showing that he didn't fear me.

We were both alphas, determined to beat the other to the top. I smiled at him as I left his borders. I would fight him another day.

Japher and I took our hunt elsewhere. To hunt Bauras. Their agility and swiftness made the pursuit of these creatures an exciting and thrilling endeavor. The anticipation of their lightning-fast movements and the danger posed by their sharp horns added an element of excitement to the hunt.

However, it was not just the thrill of the chase that made hunting Bauras enjoyable. The reward of capturing one of these magnificent creatures was the tender and succulent meat they offered. Baura meat, known for its exceptional tenderness, was highly sought after. The delicate texture and rich flavor of the meat made it a true delicacy, a testament to the quality of the Bauras as a prized game animal.

As Japher and I engaged in a chaotic dance with the numerous Bauras, I couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sheer madness of the chase. Our bodies became covered in a thick layer of grime and dust as we engaged in a fierce battle against the ferocious creatures. The earth beneath us clung to our skin, turning our once-clean clothes into a murky shade of brown. Sweat mixed with the dirt, creating streaks of mud on our faces, making it difficult to distinguish friend from foe in the chaos. Our hair, once neatly styled, now tangled and matted with soil, added to the wildness of the scene. With each roll and tumble, we became more entangled with the filth, our bodies becoming a testament to the intensity of the fight. Despite the mess, our determination remained unwavering, as we fought tooth and nail, undeterred by the dirt that clung to us.

After a long hunt, Japher and I sought a well-earned break.

Japher sighed as he hauled a kill on to his pile with a smile. "That makes three. How many did you get brother?"

"Including the last one?" I smirked. "Five."

Japher stretched his tired muscles, a contented smile playing on his lips. "Overachiever. But still nice," he said, his voice filled with satisfaction. "Nothing like a good hunt to rejuvenate the soul, huh?" The weariness of the chase seemed to melt away as he settled down beside me, his gaze fixed upon the rugged expanse of the lake. The tranquil waters mirrored the serenity that now enveloped us. After a moment of silence Japher spoke. "So. Earth. What was it like?"

"Like it was in the old days. Only greener. A lot of growth has come back."

Japher nodded once. "Well, that's good. And the humans? What was it like being around them?"

"Annoying," I smirked.

"Worse than the old ones?"

"The same, I think. As you know, these ones aren't really physically dangerous. But their egos are just as big as the ancient ones."

"Really? That's interesting. I would think they would a bit more humble, considering that they can't fight with a damn."

I chuckled.

"But, I heard that they made some fascinating serums down there."

"Yeah, they did."

"Did they test them on you?"

"Yeah. They were pretty potent, for human technology. But we put a stop to them before they could create anything more dangerous."

He nodded once. "So. I know you mentioned it before you left. But, this was your last mission, right? No more going off to other planets?"

I looked at him with a smile. "Why? You miss me?"

He punched me in the shoulder. "Don't make it sappy. Come on."

"That's sweet Japher. I really am flattered. Unless…you really didn't miss me."

Japher rolled his eyes. "You are fishing for compliments today? Fine. I'll give you this one. I miss not being able to share moments like this with you. It's been a while you know?"

"Yeah. I know. I missed these moments too."

"Besides, you promised Tanya. Don't forget." I cringed at the mention of her name.

"Yeah…"

Japher punched my arm again. "Come on, stud. You know you've kept her waiting long enough. She's been raving about your return. And she's made it very clear that you and her are a… 'thing.'"

I sighed. We weren't a 'thing.' But Tanya was nothing if not tenacious.

Japher gave me a puzzled look. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," I said as I ran my hands through my hair.

"I know that sigh. It's not nothing. Something going on between you two?"

"Nothing is going on. That's the point. She keeps behaving like we are bonded. And we aren't."

"Well, maybe she hopes you will be. You and her are kinda similar in personality." I raised my brow in disbelief. The idea that Tanya and I shared any similarities seemed far-fetched at best. "I mean, you two go after what you want. It's obvious she wants you. Always has," Japher continued, trying to convince me. The thought of Tanya's unwavering interest in me was something I had considered. But I didn't feel anything for her. And yet, Japher pointed out, she had always been there, patiently waiting for me during my absences on missions.

Perhaps, I pondered, giving Tanya a chance wouldn't be such a bad idea. Maybe she could surprise me in ways I couldn't anticipate. Maybe she was just what I needed to distract myself from my complicated feelings for Isabella.

If people saw me with Tanya, they would be less likely to entertain any rumors about Isabella and me. It could be a convenient way to conceal the truth, to protect both Isabella and myself from the prying eyes and wagging tongues of those around us. Maybe, just maybe, Tanya could provide the distraction I so desperately craved.

"She is the perfect mate, isn't she?" I smirked.

"One of the best. A strong Omna woman. She will give you many children and a safe place to come home to. And…she's not bad looking either."

"Are you checking her out?" I asked, teasingly.

He playfully raised his hands in defense. "Woah. No way. She's not my type," he admitted. "I prefer the more docile type, the shy ones. But I think she's good for you."

Curiosity piqued, I couldn't help but ask, "Speaking of you type… how is it going with you and Alica?"

A mischievous grin spread across his face. "I think we are very close to sealing the bond," he replied confidently.

My eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Really? When did that happen?" I inquired, recalling the days when they used to argue incessantly about their respective egos, not seeming to get along at all. "Seems like only yesterday I was watching you two bicker about which one was more egotistical."

He smiled. "Beneath her anger for me, lay a dormient passion," he said arrogantly. "She couldn't resist my charm." Japher laughed as he blushed a little. "No but really. I do care for her. A lot actually."

I gripped him playfully around the back of the neck, my fingers lightly brushing against his skin. "You stealer of unsuspecting hearts. I'm sure all the Omna females will weep at your ceremony. Who knows, I might even shed a tear." Japher chuckled in excitement, his eyes shining with happiness. It was clear to me that he truly cared for her, and seeing my younger brother so elated made my heart swell with joy. "So?" I wagged my eyebrows.

"So? So what?"

"Have you…asked her yet? Duh." I pressed.

Running his hands through his hair, Japher's expression turned slightly nervous. "Not yet," he admitted, his voice stained with uncertainty. "I just want to be absolutely sure that she feels the same way I do. I know deep in my heart that she's my mate, but what if... what if she doesn't feel the same?"

I moved my hand on his shoulder reassuringly, "She will," I said firmly, my voice filled with conviction. "She will accept you. Just be strong and tell her how you feel."

He sighed blissfully, a dreamy smile gracing his face. "I know you're right," he said, his voice filled with determination. "But it's hard. She is so perfect in every way. Have you ever looked at someone and thought, 'wow, they are flawless?'"

A pang of nostalgia washed over me as his words resonated deeply within me. Yes, I had. Isabella. The memory of her beauty and grace flooded my mind, and for a moment, I was lost in the past. But I quickly shook off the bittersweet thoughts, focusing on my brother's happiness and the future that awaited him.

Japher continued. "I mean her hair. The way she walks. Her smell. Even her laugh is amazing. That smile. I live for that smile. But she's more than pretty. She's intelligent, independent, and brave. I could think of no better Omna woman to share my life with. She would make a great mother too. She's caring, thoughtful, but so protective."

I chuckled. "I hope you haven't been stalking her…"

"Shut up."

We both shared a lighthearted moment. "Japher, it seems like you've found where your heart truly belongs. Don't waste any more time prolonging your happiness. If you feel she's your mate, chances are she feels it too. Go to her," I advised, to which he nodded in agreement.

"When I go to her, I want to give her something special, though. I had thought of presenting her with a Norflog tusk, but I'm not as bold as you are," Japher admitted.

"If she truly is your mate, you don't need to prove anything to her. You are worth more than any Norflog tusk," I reassured him.

"True, but I still want to surprise her with something unexpected. Like the flowers found up north, near Arcturus mountain."

"You mean the flowers at the summit of Arcturus mountain?" I asked, my voice filled with disbelief.

"Yes, you know, the rare Rubix flower. I may not be the best fighter, but I have endurance."

I nodded. "You will need it," he gave him a sly smirk. "New bride and all."

He blushed. "I'm not worried about that part."

"You aren't? No performance issues?" I smirked.

"None. I am more than qualified in that realm. What I mean is…I could make the challenging hike and retrieve it for her. Those flowers last for years, and I thought she might appreciate having one," he explained.

I responded skeptically, "I'm not sure about that. It could be a risky trek."

"Then come with me. You can ensure my safety," he suggested, flashing a smile. I let out a sigh.

"I'll consider it. But in the meantime, you need to step up your game. I'm not hiking all the way up there with you for a woman you haven't even claimed as your own yet," I teased. We both shared a chuckle.

"Oh, Enzuk. I can't wait for you to experience the same happiness I have. I can't wait for you to form a deep connection with someone. It's an indescribable feeling. It's incredible."

"She would have to be incredible to gain my interest," I joked.

"I'm sure she is out there. I would love to see the woman who brings the mighty and powerful Enzuk to his knees," he smirked.

"You make it sound like she needs to be some formidable beast," I remarked.

"Perhaps. Maybe you'll bond with Arcal," he suggested playfully. I playfully tossed Japher into the lake before diving in myself.

When we arrived back at our borders, Japher and I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment as we proudly carried our kills. Alica, with a shy smile on her face, was eagerly waiting for Japher's return. I playfully raised my eyebrows at Japher and ran my tongue along my bottom lip, teasing him in a flirtatious manner.

However, my attempts to grab his attention were quickly dismissed as he dropped his kills and warmly embraced Alica. She threw herself into his arms, clearly overjoyed to see him return safely.

I smiled warmly, my heart fluttering with delight as I gracefully stepped aside, allowing them to enjoy their private moment. However, just as I began to retreat, a sudden sensation enveloped me, causing me to freeze in place. A gentle touch, tender and mischievous, covered my eyes from behind. I instantly recognized the familiar scent that wafted through the air.

Tanya.

"Hey you," she gigged as she moved around to face me. Her gaze lingered on the trophies adorning my back, causing her cheeks to flush. "Looks like you've been busy."

"I promised Japher we would go hunting today."

"You always keep your promises," she acknowledged with a nod, trailing behind me as I continued on my path. Eagerly, she caught up to me. "I have a surprise for you."

"What is it?" I asked, feeling a hint of irritation.

"Come and see," she pleaded, stopping me in my path while offering me a tight smile. "Trust me, you'll love it. I've been working on it ever since I found out about your hunting plans." Japher suddenly joined us, playfully raising his eyebrows in a flirtatious manner. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Go on Enzuk. I'll take your kills."

"But-"

"Thank you Japher," Tanya said while wrapping her hands around my arm. Japher took my kills and quickly walked off with Alica trailing beside him. Tanya pulled me toward her playfully. "Come on. Don't look so glum. I'll put a smile on your face."

"I really have other errands I need to do, Tanya."

"Ok…But for the next hour you're mine."

"Tanya…"

"Please? I really have something for you. And we haven't spent much time together since your last mission. You promised me we could when you returned from your mission. You do keep your promises, don't you?"

I hesitated, then let out a sigh and finally gave in, nodding in agreement. Tanya's eyes lit up with excitement. As we maneuvered through the vibrant streets, the sights and sounds enveloped us, creating a symphony of life that echoed in our souls. Tanya's infectious energy seemed to infect everyone we passed, their gazes lingering on us, intrigued by the connection we shared. She reveled in this attention, making no effort to conceal the fact that she had claimed me as her companion. I desperately wanted to express my exasperation by rolling my eyes, but I refrained from doing so out of a deep sense of respect for Tanya. However, I couldn't help but despise the pretense of affection that she constantly put on display. It felt as though she believed we were already deeply connected, when in reality, we were far from it.

As we strolled together, her tail gently encircled mine, seeking to create a warm and intimate connection. Despite the discomfort it caused, I chose not to distance myself from her. Instead, I embraced the discomfort, understanding that pushing her away would only bring her embarrassment in the presence of others.

She suddenly came to a halt. I glanced at her with a puzzled expression as I looked around. We were barely out of the busy streets. "Is this where you wanted to take me?"

She smirked. "No. Close your eyes. And I'll lead you from here."

I shook my head in frustration, feeling a mix of exhaustion and annoyance. "I'm getting tired of this," I said, my voice laced with irritation. "First of all, you know I absolutely hate surprises and games. And second," I emphasized, pulling my tail away from her grasp, "we are not bonded yet. Why on earth do you insist on these public displays of affection when we haven't even had a proper conversation about our future together?"

She sighed, her voice full of disappointment and longing. "You promised," she whispered, her eyes searching my face for any sign of understanding. "We were supposed to spend more time together, to bridge the gap between us after your mission to Earth. Though we may not be bonded yet, we made a pact to make an effort, to nurture what could potentially be something beautiful."

Her words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken emotions. "But" she continued, her voice trembling slightly, "you've been consumed by constant missions, leaving no room for connection or vulnerability. It's as if you've built an impenetrable fortress around your heart, not allowing anyone to come close enough to touch it. I want to understand you, to know the depths of your soul, but how can I when you're always on the move? How can I reach your heart when you haven't given anyone a chance to break through those walls you've meticulously built?"

Her words hung in the air, a plea for me to recognize the impact of my actions. She longed for me to understand the importance of a possible connection, the potential for a love that could transcend the boundaries of our separate worlds. I knew that with each passing mission, she feared that our chance at something extraordinary was slipping away, lost in the void of missed opportunities.

She took a deep breath, her voice filled with a mix of hope and desperation. "Please, just give us a chance. Let me prove that I can be the one who reaches your heart."

I sighed as I closed my eyes. "Lead the way." Of course, I couldn't see Tanya's smile, but I could tell my compliance must have made her happy. She took hold of my arm again, leading me to some unknown destination. After a while I sighed. "Tanya, where exactly are you taking me?"

"Shh. We are almost there." Almost?

I heard her open a door and then walk us through. I wanted to open my eyes, but she put her hand over my eyes to cover them. "Just a little further." I could feel warm mist envelop my body as I breathed in hot condensation. Hating the feeling of being kept in the dark, I suddenly jerked my head away from her and opened my eyes. Shocked, I looked around the bath house, and swallowed hard. I glanced at Tanya with unease, but she only smiled at me. "You had a good hunt, I thought you could use a good bath."

"I-I washed up in the lake."

She scrunched her face. "That's not washing up." She gripped my arm and led me over to a large pool where I could see the steam pouring off. The air was thick with the scent of fragrant oils and herbs, creating a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The pool itself was surrounded by intricately designed tiles, giving it an elegant and luxurious feel. As I stepped closer, the warmth of the water beckoned me, tempting me to immerse myself in its comforting embrace. Tanya gently released her grip on my arm and motioned for me to enter the pool.

"Try it," she smiled.

Intrigued, I tilted my head to the side, watching Tanya's every move as she moved behind me. "Here. Let me," she said as she slowly began unbuttoning my shirt from behind. I allowed her to proceed, even though it made me feel uneasy as each button was undone. She continued until finally, my shirt slipped off completely.

Taking a moment to collect myself, I gazed out at the serene water, its gentle waves reflecting the moonlight. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of anticipation, as if something magical was about to unfold. And when I turned around, Tanya stood before me, her thin blue dress now discarded, revealing her graceful figure.

Her vibrant blue eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint as she skillfully braided her silver hair, adding an enchanting touch to her already captivating presence. Tanya was attractive. She truly was. She just wasn't…Isabella. My heart leaped at the thought of Isabella. Had Isabella been the one inviting me to bathe with her, I would have eagerly plunged in a long time ago.

A warm hand graced the side of my face. "Where is your mind?" Tanya whispered.

I shook my head. "Here," I said confidently.

With a captivating smile, Tanya reached out and took hold of my hand, her touch warm and inviting. Without hesitation, she tugged me towards the water. I loosened my pants and let them drop to the floor.

I paused. "No one will bother us," she smiled. "I asked for privacy. This is our time together."

Reluctantly, I took a step forward, my uncertainty reflected in the hesitant movement of my toe as it touched the water's surface. As the warmth enveloped my skin, a subtle sensation of comfort and familiarity began to seep through me. Though I had reservations about spending this time with her, I couldn't deny that her actions aligned with the customs and traditions of our Omna culture. In our society, it was customary for a woman to prepare a bath for a potential mate after his hunt, a gesture meant to demonstrate care and hospitality. While I had always found these rituals to be somewhat archaic, I couldn't deny their significance in our community. It's not that I was against them. But this moment with Tanya seemed too soon. Too intimate. Tanya and I were just starting our courting process.

Tanya emersed herself into the water and then beckoned me toward the water again. With caution, I allowed myself to sink deeper into the water, the heat gradually soothing my weary muscles.

The moment my body submerged; a wave of relaxation washed over me. The tension and fatigue from the hunt melted away, replaced by a sense of tranquility and rejuvenation. The hot water worked its magic, soothing my aching muscles and easing my mind. I closed my eyes and let the steamy mist envelop me, allowing the therapeutic properties of the bath to work their wonders. The warmth seeped into my bones, revitalizing me from within. I could feel the stress and worries of the outside world dissipate, leaving me in a state of blissful serenity.

Opening my eyes, I glanced at Tanya who was still smiling at me, her eyes filled with genuine concern and care. Her silver hair, like a delicate halo, floated around her in the vast expanse of the pool, as she swam toward me. I observed intently as she gracefully maneuvered herself to a spot just behind me, her delicate hands gently sliding beneath my arms, securely drawing me closer into the warmth of her embrace. A soft, velvety voice escaped her lips, barely above a whisper, as she instructed me to lean my head back against her check.

"Tanya…"

"Shhh," she whispered softly, her voice a gentle caress against my ear. With a tender touch, she placed her hand on my forehead, urging me to lean back into the comfort of her embrace. I sighed as my body tensed. "Relax," she said as she ran her hands through my hair. "You had a good hunt. Let me take care of you." Her hands then glided effortlessly down my chest as she began to trace invisible patterns along my skin.

My ears perked as she began to sing a soothing song. As the melody flowed through the air, it seemed to carry away all my worries and troubles, leaving only a sense of peace in its wake. She grabbed a cloth and dipped it in the water before running it over my chest. Her delicate touch with the cloth dipped in lavender soup created a sensation of absolute bliss. With each stroke, she spread the fragrant essence of lavender, its calming aroma enveloping me in a cocoon of relaxation.

I closed my eyes. The bath felt nice. And the luxury of being bathed was relaxing. How much more blissful this moment would be with Isabella. I would much rather be bathing her. She would probably be a bright red the entire time. She was timid when it came to exposing herself.

I smirked. The world around me faded into insignificance as I immersed myself in the ethereal experience. The sound of Tanya's song, like a lullaby, whispered in my ear. Isabella's face lingered in my thoughts, vivid and captivating. Her mesmerizing brown eyes, like pools of warmth and depth, always held a look of innocence and strength. The way her soft curls cascaded down her shoulders, framing her face with an effortless grace, was always a sight to behold. And her full, luscious lips, always curved into an inviting smile, had the power to brighten even the darkest of days.

I recalled the enchanting moment we spent together in the garden, where nature seemed to come alive in her presence. Even the vibrant colors of the flowers paled in comparison to her radiance, as she effortlessly stole the spotlight. I remembered how the sunlight danced upon her, accentuating her natural beauty and illuminating her delicate features.

But it was her touch that left an indelible mark on my memory. I remembered as I gently pressed my lips against her velvety skin. Time stood still. The softness of her skin against my lips was a sensation I wished to savor forever, etching it into the depths of my being. I moaned.

Tanya giggled. "Are you enjoying yourself?"

My eyes shot open, and I cleared my throat. I nodded once, thankful I didn't have to explain to her why I was enjoying myself.

"Good," she replied.

She didn't need to be aware of the intense desire I had for Isabella's touch. The longing I felt to have her by my side in the bath was a secret I kept hidden. It felt slightly taboo, but I couldn't be blamed for being coerced into a situation I never desired with her. My heart ached for Isabella, and oh, the forbidden pleasures I yearned to explore with her. A mischievous smile played on my lips as I shut my eyes once more, reveling in the sheer bliss of the thought. Isabella couldn't truly comprehend the overwhelming sensation of having a soulmate, nor had she ever experienced the intoxicating feeling of being cherished and adored by another. I would shower her with so much pleasure.

A pair of fingers, delicate and skilled, gently threaded their way through the strands of my hair, their touch sending waves of relaxation cascading through my body. The sensation was so exquisite that a soft groan escaped my lips again, a testament to the sheer bliss I was experiencing.

As the fingers continued their tender ministrations, my mind wandered again to memories of Isabella. In that hushed moment, I couldn't help but yearn for Isabella's physical presence, for her to be the one behind those magical fingers that were weaving their magic through my hair. The thought of her being the source of this incredible sensation filled me with an overwhelming sense of desire and longing.

In the midst of this tranquil moment, I found myself whispering a name, a name that held a special place in my heart - Isabella. The mere utterance of her name seemed to carry a weight of longing and affection. She was the embodiment of all that was beautiful and comforting in my life.

Tayna's hands abruptly halted, causing her to become slightly bewildered. "What?" she questioned; her confusion evident in her voice. "Isabella?" In response, my eyes flew open once more, and I frantically surveyed my surroundings.

"Um, it's an English word..." I stammered.

"English? Oh, you mean a human word," Tanya mused.

"Yes," I confirmed.

She let out an awkward chuckle. "You speak human when you're relaxed? That's something new. Isabella, you say? It's the name of something?"

"Huh?" I was taken aback.

"The human word you used. What does it mean?" she inquired.

Uh, it means..." I paused, taking a moment to gather my thoughts. "Beautiful." I hesitated to reveal the true meaning of Isabella's name, as discussing her with Tanya was not something I wanted to engage in. However, I couldn't deny that Isabella's name did indeed mean beautiful when shortened. Regardless, I chose to keep this information to myself.

Tanya seemed intrigued by my response. "Hmm," she said, her curiosity evident. "Beautiful. I like it. What made you say it?"

I took a moment to compose myself before responding, allowing the water to cascade down my chest. "Your song is beautiful," I said, turning to face her with a slight smile. Her excitement was palpable as she bit her lip in response.

"Thank you," she blushed, clearly pleased by my compliment. I nodded and then averted my gaze. "You know," she said as she ran her hands up and down my arms, "I can provide you with constant care and we can create more experiences like this," she said, her voice filled with hope and longing. However, her words only intensified the discomfort I felt. The thought of being in such an intimate situation with her again made me cringe inwardly. One shared bath was enough to satisfy any curiosity I had about her. If it were up to me, I would ensure that we never found ourselves in this predicament again.

In fact, if I had complete control over the situation, the next time I found myself in a similar position, Isabella would be sitting on my lap, her body exposed and her cheeks flushed with a delicate blush, resembling a new bride. The mere thought of such a scenario ignited a fire within me, a desire that I had suppressed for far too long.

But reality quickly snapped me back to the present. Tanya's words hung in the air, waiting for a response. I forced a smile, attempting to hide my true feelings. "I know," I replied with reluctance.

"Look," she said softly, "I know you have many obligations to the Realm, and I understand the weight of responsibility that Aro places upon you. And it's okay. I'm willing to take things slow. I'll patiently wait for you, even if you have pressing duties to attend to. My desire is to be your mate, not to burden you further."

With a gentle touch, she placed a tender kiss on my cheek, "I'll wait for you, always," she whispered, her voice filled with unwavering devotion. "You know that my feelings for you have remained steadfast, unwavering through time."

"Tanya," I hesitated, my heart pounding in my chest as I gently grasped her hand in mine. "You know, without a doubt, that you are an extraordinary woman. Your beauty radiates from within, and your strength is awe-inspiring. Any Omna warrior would consider themselves incredibly fortunate to have you by their side."

A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips, but her eyes held a glimmer of determination. "But I don't want just any Omna warrior," she replied, her voice filled with unwavering conviction. "I want you, and only you."

Her words caught me off guard, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. I believed her, but how could I make her understand that my heart lay elsewhere without causing major consequences for Isabella? "I'm not saying we won't give it a try," I murmured. "I just want you to understand how truly beautiful you are, both inside and out. And sometimes, I can't help but question if I deserve the affection you so generously give me."

Her laughter, soft and melodic, filled the air, and she gently placed her hand in mine, intertwining our fingers. "You have my love, my heart, regardless of any doubts that may cloud your mind," she whispered, her voice laced with unwavering devotion. "You are worthy, my love. Always and forever."

"Thank you, Tanya. For the bath. And your love." I stood, letting the water cascade down my body. Turning my attention to Tanya, her slender figure gracefully still immersed in the water, I extended my hand towards her. With a soft smile, she accepted my gesture, allowing me to lift her out of the bath with ease. The water droplets glistened on her skin as she stood beside me, her eyes fixed on my every move.

I could sense her curiosity and admiration as I reached for a crisp, clean robe, the fabric cool against my damp skin. The softness of the material provided a comforting embrace, shielding me from the chill of the air. With deliberate movements, I brushed my wet hair, the strands falling into place with a satisfying rustle.

Tanya remained by my side, her gaze unwavering. The intensity of her scrutiny began to weigh on me, prompting me to offer her a towel to drape over her shoulders. The gesture was a subtle reminder of boundaries, a way to shield myself from her prying eyes.

"Thank you," she said in a hushed whisper. In response, I leaned in and placed a tender peck on her cheek.

"Thank you for the unexpected surprise," I expressed my gratitude, genuinely appreciating the thoughtfulness behind it. The bath had been truly satisfying, providing a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation. However, as she leaned in, seeking more affection, I instinctively turned away.

"I need to meet with Aro," I stated firmly, my tone indicating the importance and urgency of the matter. Disappointment flashed across her face as she realized her hopes for more affection were being abandoned. "I should go," I added.

Understanding my commitment, she nodded, accepting the situation with grace and maturity. "I understand," she replied with a hint of sadness. We exchanged a brief nod of mutual understanding before I swiftly made my exit, hastily gathering my discarded clothes on the way out. As I embarked on my journey to my side of the realm, clad in a pristine white robe, I couldn't help but feel a sense of irony. The contrast between my elegant attire and the arduous task ahead made the situation almost laughable.

Fortunately, my position as Aro's second in command granted me the privilege of residing in a prominent part of the Omna realm. This not only afforded me a certain level of prestige but also provided me with privacy. Some envied my position and the amenities that came with it. However, my position came with its own set of challenges and costs. The weight of responsibility rested heavily on my shoulders, as I was entrusted with overseeing crucial aspects of the realm's affairs. It was my duty to ensure the smooth functioning of our dominion, to maintain order and harmony among our subjects, and to execute Aro's directives with unwavering loyalty.

There was no room for loving a human.

I barged into my bedroom, the door swinging open with a forceful push. As I stepped inside, I was immediately enveloped by the opulence that awaited me. It was a large and luxurious room, adorned with the regal colors of gold and white. The walls were adorned with intricate patterns, and the soft glow of the chandelier cast a warm and inviting ambiance.

Eager to shed the remnants of my relaxing bath, I swiftly discarded the plush bathrobe onto a nearby chair. The room exuded a sense of grandeur, with its high ceilings and expansive windows that allowed the sunlight to dance gracefully across the room. 'Isabella would love this room', I thought to myself.

My eyes fell upon the vast expanse of my closet, a treasure trove of fashion possibilities. It seemed to stretch endlessly, filled with racks upon racks of carefully curated garments. From elegant robes to tailored suits, it housed a collection fit for any occasion.

With determination, I began my search for the perfect attire. My fingertips grazed the soft fabrics, as I sifted through the array of colors and styles. Each garment held its own story, a testament to my ever-evolving taste and sartorial choices.

I pulled out an elegant black robe, its fabric exuding a sense of sophistication and allure. Intricate embroidery in shades of gold and white adorned the edges, adding a touch of opulence to the garment. With a graceful movement, I slipped the robe onto my shoulders, feeling its luxurious fabric embrace me.

As I stood before the mirror, I contemplated my appearance. Instead of leaving my hair untamed, I braided it carefully. Completing my ensemble, I reached for a pair of boots that perfectly complemented the robe. Crafted from supple leather, they hugged my feet comfortably, their sleek design enhancing my confident stride. The boots, like the robe, exuded a sense of refined style, elevating my entire appearance. As I took one final glance at my reflection, I felt a surge of confidence and poise.

I wanted to head down to the labs and pester Melxa some more. Or even ask Aro if he had any updated news on a verdict regarding Isabella. But I felt I had to restrain myself. If a verdict had been made, I would have been told, right? Melxa would have told me immediately. Right? He knew I wanted to know.

Or maybe he was waiting to see me to deliver the news himself in person. I bit my lip, anxious again. I paced my room until I could bare it no more.

I found solace in the cozy atmosphere of my small table and chairs nestled by the crackling fireplace. The bottle of liknoi, beckoned to me. Without hesitation, I reached for it and poured myself a generous glass, the amber liquid cascading into the vessel. Thirstily, I raised the glass to my lips and savored the taste, the warmth spreading through me like a comforting embrace.

As I took in the soothing ambiance, a wave of overwhelming emotions washed over me. I sank into a chair, my body heavy with a mix of longing and uncertainty. My gaze fixated on the dancing images within the fire.

Lost in thought, I swirled the liknio around in my glass, the liquid dancing in mesmerizing patterns. Each swirl mirrored the whirlwind of thoughts that consumed my mind. The forbidden desire to see Isabella gnawed at me, tearing at the fabric of my self-control. Aro's strict order still loomed over me, a constant reminder of the consequences that awaited if I defied his command.

But the ache in my heart grew unbearable. The distance between us was driving me to the brink of madness. I yearned for just a glimpse of her, to see her radiant smile and feel the warmth of her touch. The walls that Aro had erected between us felt suffocating, trapping me in a world devoid of her presence. I knew I had to find a way, a sliver of hope amidst the darkness. I had to devise a plan, however risky, to catch a fleeting glimpse of Isabella. The weight of my decision pressed heavily upon me, the consequences unknown but the yearning for her too strong to ignore.

As I sat there, contemplating my next move, I took another sip of the liknoi, hoping its familiar taste would provide me with the courage to defy Aro's orders. The fire within me burned brighter, fueled by determination and a desire that refused to be contained.

My train of thought was abruptly interrupted by a knock at my door. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I deduced that it was likely one of the mindless human attendants who often offered their assistance during the night. I had had enough sexual tension from Tanya. I was in no mood to sexually engage with a mere human; my heart only longed for Isabella's presence.

"I wish to be alone," I grumbled, full of irritation. Placing my forehead in my hand, I rested my elbow on the small table, seeking solace in the silence. My irritation grew as another knock echoed through the room. "Leave!" I bellowed out, my frustration reaching its peak.

Yet, the knocking persisted, refusing to be ignored. My patience waned, and I could no longer contain my anger. I stood up from my seat, the anger bubbling inside me like a volcano ready to erupt. "Enter!" I shouted with pure rage, my voice echoing through the empty room. Who dared to disobey my orders? The audacity of this person, interrupting my solitude and invading my sanctuary, was unfathomable. As the door creaked open, my eyes narrowed, ready to confront the intruder and unleash the full force of my wrath upon them.

I was taken aback by the presence of Lord Aro, his grace and elegance radiating from every pore. I quickly composed myself, clearing my throat and offering a respectful bow. "Lord Aro. I wasn't expecting you," I stammered, trying to hide my surprise.

"Clearly," he replied with a warm smile, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. His eyes scanned me from head to toe, concern evident in his gaze. "You don't look well. Are you alright?"

"Oh, yes," I assured him, attempting to mask my exhaustion. "Just tired, that's all."

"Hm," he murmured, his footsteps echoing as he made his way further into the room. His long cape billowed behind him, adding an air of grandeur to his presence. His eyes zeroed in on the liknoi. "May I join you?" he inquired, his tone both polite and curious.

Caught off guard by his interest, I nodded and gestured towards the empty seat. "Of course, Lord Aro. Please, have a seat."

As he settled down, his movements were graceful and deliberate, exuding an aura of authority. I poured him a glass of liknoi, and then refilled mine. I picked up his glass and raised it to me before taking a sip. He hummed and then smiled. "That's good liknoi."

I nodded in agreement, acknowledging his presence. Curiosity piqued, I asked, "To what do I owe this visit?"

He glanced at me briefly before shifting his gaze toward the crackling fire, absentmindedly tracing his finger along the rim of his glass. The silence lingered, prompting me to take another sip of my liknoi, a drink that offered very little solace in moments like these. After a few contemplative moments, he finally broke the silence with a question that caught me off guard, causing me to blink in surprise.

"What was it about the female human that compelled you to keep her alive?"

I hardly expected that to be the topic.

My initial response was to mention research purposes, but there was more to it than that. "I believed she could serve as a valuable subject for Melxa's studies," I replied. Aro, sensing that there was more to the story, nodded. But his response was unexpected.

"She is an interesting human," he acknowledged. "She seems to have a mind of her own." A small smirk tugged at the corners of my lips, acknowledging the truth in his words. Indeed, she possessed a fierce independence and a spirit that defied expectations. Aro's eyes locked onto my smirk, studying it intently. Slowly, a similar expression formed on his face, a mirrored reflection of my own.

"So. You spoke with her?" I asked cautiously.

"I did indeed," he replied. "She has interesting assumptions about justice and peace. And while I intended to put her to death in the lab, she has piqued my interest. I went to Melxa's lab to execute her. I had no intention in listening to anything she had to say. But our conversation was surprisingly…intriguing."

I nodded, struggling to hide the unease that washed over me upon hearing his admission. The fact that he had contemplated ending her life in such a cold and calculated manner troubled me deeply. But I knew better than to question his methods or challenge his decisions. At least not in front of him.

His words hung in the air, a chilling reminder of the darkness that lurked within him. It was a reminder that his pursuit of knowledge and power often came at a great cost, one that I had witnessed far too many times before. But for now, all I could do was nod and listen, silently hoping that his newfound interest in her would not lead to further darkness and destruction.

He shifted his weight slightly, leaning forward in his seat. "I was captivated by something she said," he began, his voice filled with interest. "She revealed to me that she had engaged in thought-provoking conversations with you while on Earth."

"Natually. I was able to use her to gain much information about what the humans were up to. She was a valuable resource. Conversation was necessary."

"Yes. That is reasonable. But that's not what caught my attention. I noticed, she freely referred to you by your Omna name, using it effortlessly. It makes me wonder about the nature of these exchanges. Whether more than simple information was exchanged. It seems to me, that she feels some sort of connection to you. I know you don't share that connection, but, why would she know your Omna name?"

"I didn't seem any harm in letting her use it. I intended to kill her. As for her deeper emotions, I can't speak to what she was thinking or feeling."

He nodded once. "No. I don't suppose you can. Unfortunately, I couldn't read them myself as I was informed that the book containing these conversations had either gone missing or been destroyed. I can't quite recall which it was now."

I nonchalantly shrugged my shoulders, trying to downplay the significance of our discussions. "Our conversations mainly revolved around debates concerning peace and justice," I explained. "She was determined to discover a way to establish harmony between humans and Omna. However, I firmly believed that such a feat was simply not achievable."

His gaze intensified, his piercing blue eyes narrowing as they locked onto mine. "But despite your initial skepticism, you chose to preserve her," he pointed out, his tone filled with curiosity. "So, what changed your perspective? What made you reconsider?"

I opened my mouth, hesitated, and then closed it again. I tilted my head to the side, lost in thought as I pondered my response. "I never thought that someone like her could be reformed," I finally admitted. "For as long as I can remember, I've always believed that all humans possessed a certain level of deceitfulness, and that such inherent traits cannot be eradicated. Despite witnessing Melxa's impressive work, I never truly believed in his ability to reform humans. But now, we coexist with them. They may be our servants, but they have undergone a transformation. It perplexed me how someone with the capacity to create such malevolent and destructive weapons could also advocate for peace. In the end, it wasn't the scientist herself who attempted to take my life, but rather her fellow partners. She adamantly refused to employ any weapons against me."

He nodded in understanding. "So, when Melxa announced that he had been tasked with studying the human, you readily agreed without question," he affirmed. "Because, deep down, you felt it was only fair to ensure her survival, considering she had done everything in her power to protect you."

"I know you may not agree with my decision, but we have always been honest with each other. And I don't intend to change that now," I said with sincerity. With a gentle smile, Aro reached out and placed his hand on my shoulder, a comforting gesture that conveyed his trust in our bond.

"I understand your decision, and I do trust your judgement," he replied, his voice carrying a mix of respect and acceptance. It was clear that he had carefully considered the situation at hand. "In fact, out of respect for your discernment, I have made the choice to prolong the execution of the human, at least for the time being."

Pausing for a moment, he then continued, "While I remain skeptical about her claims of seeking peace, there was an undeniable fervor in her words. It's intriguing to consider the possibility of societal reformation, but it also means subjecting her to a life of slavery. Only when faced with such a prospect will we truly gauge the depth of her commitment to peace."

I nodded, a wave of immense relief washing over me, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders. It was a moment of pure solace, knowing that Isabella's life would be spared by Aro's decree. The weight of uncertainty that had plagued my every thought was suddenly replaced by a glimmer of hope. With this newfound respite, I allowed myself to envision a future where Isabella would continue to breathe, her heart beating steadily, for a little while longer. It was a bittersweet realization, for while she would be granted more time, it also meant that the looming threat still hung over her fragile existence.

But this reprieve also presented an opportunity, a chance for me to delve deeper into the depths of my mind and explore every possible avenue to save her permanently. Time was my ally, a precious commodity that I would not squander. I would leave no stone unturned, no possibility unexplored, in my quest to find a solution that would ensure Isabella's safety.

"Tell me," Aro said in all seriousness, "tell me that any feelings you have for this human are purely academic. Tell me that Vorro's accusations are incorrect, and you have no feelings for this human."

Oh shit.

"I'm well aware of Vorro's persuasion tactics, but I can confidently say that his beliefs are misguided."

Aro contemplated my statement in complete silence. Then he responded, "So, if there were no longer any valid reasons to keep her alive, you wouldn't intervene?"

The muscles in my neck tightened. "I would certainly want to understand the rationale behind it," I responded a bit hastily. I made a conscious effort to calm myself and regulate my heart rate as Aro continued to scrutinize me.

"Does the rational really matter?"

Yes. "I suppose not," I replied, taking a sip of my drink.

"Good. How is Tanya?"

The mention of her name caught me off guard, causing me to almost choke on my drink. Tanya.

"Um, she's doing well. I spent some time with her today. She's eager to resume where we left off before my mission."

Aro nodded approvingly. "I believe that's a positive development." He gave me a meaningful look. "She's a remarkable Omna woman, deserving of the title of mate. I hope you'll prioritize that bond and not let yourself become too preoccupied with Melxa's research endeavors. His current project is unlikely to endure for long." He smiled at me, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was a deeper implication behind his words.

Aro stood up gracefully, his tall figure casting a commanding presence in the room. With a satisfied smile, he savored the remnants of his drink, relishing its rich flavors. Gently placing the glass on the polished table, he turned toward me and let out a deep, melodic chuckle. It was a chuckle that filled the air, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie. "You should see your face. Of all the things that you could fear, I never thought women would be on your list."

I snorted. "I am not afraid of her. But we are not mated yet, and she insists on acting like we are. I am simply setting boundaries between us until we make some sort of bond."

"Well, she is tenacious. I would expect nothing less from a woman who pursues a top Omna warrior. You will have you hands full with that one." I nodded in agreement.

"I think I'll retire for the night," Aro announced, his voice carrying a hint of mischief.

Surprised, I couldn't help but inquire, "You won't be attending the festival tonight?"

Aro's eyes twinkled mischievously as he shook his head, a sly grin playing on his lips. "I have another festival waiting for me in my bed," he replied, his words laced with a playful undertone. With a final nod, he bid his farewell.

Throughout all his rule, Aro had steadfastly resisted the allure of taking a mate. He believed that the weighty responsibilities of governing a kingdom consumed his every thought, leaving no room for the pursuit of a companion. He also believed having a mate could sway his judgment as ruler. Yet, despite this noble dedication, Aro's nights were not devoid of passion and desire. Behind closed doors, Aro made it clear that his nights were far from devoid of fervor and longing. Sometimes I wondered if he ever felt lonely without a mate. But he said that he lacked nothing when it came to indulging in pleasure, and his bed was consistently occupied.

Maybe, I too was destined to be alone. It felt like my path in life was leading me toward solitude, away from the warmth and companionship that others seemed to effortlessly find. Perhaps, deep down, I had always known that my journey would be a solitary one. I wanted a mate. Not just any mate. I wanted Isabella more than anything. I wanted a human.

But as I reflected on my choices, I couldn't help but wonder if not taking an Omna mate cause more of an uproar and put a bigger target on Isabella. Our love was forbidden, a secret that I had to hide from the world. Not taking an Omna mate would also mean that I didn't have to maintain a pretense of being in love with someone else. I wouldn't have to feign affection or deny the depth of my feelings for Isabella.

It also served as a means to protect Isabella from the inevitable pain and heartbreak that would arise from a love that could never be openly acknowledged. Alternatively, I could choose an Omna mate and keep Isabella as a secret lover.

I grimaced. No. No.

I couldn't degrade her to the status of a concubine. However, what if that was the only way to be with her? No, absolutely not. Damn me to hell if I ever allowed my mate to be reduced to such a shameful position. She would either stand by my side or I would deny myself the privilege of having her.

Maybe, I was destined to be alone.
