"LV 19- Throne Room", it had said, going through his mind. Turning back around, the human let out a laugh of amusement and disbelief.
A girl with long blonde hair and heart marks on her cheeks had appeared at the end of the room, her green dress adorned with a cute pink octopus and yellow star-shaped purse. Her legs were covered with red and pink leggings and purple rhino boots, and on top of her golden hair was a pair of red devil horns. He knew who this girl was. Princess Star Butterfly, heir to the throne and holder of her family's powerful magic wand.
The human let out another laugh. So THIS was who was dumb enough to get in his way when he was so close to destroying this pathetic dimension? He had heard the stories during his slaughter, the childish immature girl who had set the kingdom on fire minutes after recieving her family's heirloom, who had always ran off and partied when she was supposed to be attending to her duties, and couldn't even sit through a 30-mintute council meeting without falling asleep, her loud snores bringing great annoyance and embarassment to her mother. Hell, with the kind of spells he had heard about, he doubted she could even use the thing to open a door, let alone save her life. What was she going to do, splat him with cupcakes? Whip him with a strawberry-flavored licorice stick? Or, as his face twisted into mock horror, maybe she would blast him with a narhwal? Oh well, the human thought, chuckling. It was free EXP. Walking forward, he approached the girl and stopped a few feet from her, waiting.
The girl looked up, meeting his eyes. Her bright ocean blue eyes held a look of mourning and sadness, and her pink heart cheekmarks seemed to have a tint of greyness to them. She stared at him for several seconds, his red eyes reflecting back her own, before she suddenly spoke.
"Hey." She said, her face giving him a sad smile as she studied his expression. "Hey?" Seriously? That was the best she could do? The human wanted to curl over laughing. He had taken great amusement at the long speeches of his previous victims, boasting about their strength, and promising to kill him for what he'd done. Made it all the more satisfying when he struck them down. Like that pathetic warrior, Mina Loveberry, he thought, chuckling to himself. He remembered her, transforming into some kind of muscular super soldier with glowing white eyes, her booming voice promising to bring his head to the queen for his crimes. And she had, dozens of times. But he had his own determination on his side, allowing him to come back with the knowledge of his opponent's moves. He remembered with amusement the look of shock and disbelief on the warrior's face as he struck her down, having barely a scratch on him despite her best efforts. He took great pleasure in knowing that she realized she had failed as she let out a choked gurgle, drowning on her own blood. He had left her there, her eyes glazing over and going blank as he continued on his mission, saving at the nearest point he could so he wouldn't ever have to see her ugly face again.
"Hey." Princess Star said again. He had almost forgotten she was in the room. "So uh, you've been busy, huh?" She said, looking away from him.
He had been busy. Very busy. Star had seen it, following and watching him from a distance. Countless numbers of innocent monsters and civilians falling by his hand. Dozens of knights and the squires from the castle being sent to strike him down. All of them reduced to nothing but lifeless corpses, spilling blood into the dirt of her once proud and bustling kingdom. And, Star said to herself, her lips trembling, her parents.
The death of her parents had been by far the hardest part of it. She recalled her mother hugging her, telling her that she loved her, and, above her protests, making her promise that if anything happened to her, she would run far away, anywhere, that was away from that... thing that was terrorizing their kingdom. Of course, it was pointless. All of it was. Star had already known how it was going to end when her mother had confronted that monster, transforming into her butterfly form and wielding her trusted sword that had protected her family for years. Oh sure, her mother had done a great job of killing him. Dozens of times actually, but all it was doing was delaying the inevitable. Her fears had been confirmed when the human had finally landed a killing blow on the queen, her eyes wide in shock as she realized she was mortally wounded. It had been pure chaos after that. Almost every citizen and monster had run screaming into the night, knowing that not even the queen had been able to stop his rampage. Countless people had run up crying and shaking in fear, not knowing if they or their families were even safe anymore. Riots were started, food and supplies were either destroyed or stolen. Each and every person no longer trusted their neighbors. Even families had been torn apart by fighting and fears of each other being in league with that awful human. The ones foolish enough to stay behind had been effortlessly slaughtered, barely even putting up a challenge to the blood-soaked human.
And her father... The king had handed his daughter a pair of scissors, telling her to leave and never return for her own safety. Hugging her tight and telling her that he loved her, he pleaded with her to not make her mother's sacrifice be in vain before he had stormed out with his battleaxe. He had joined up with the Magical High Commission, all of them confronting the human and growling that they would avenge the queen, along with a string of curses that Star would rather not have repeated. Of course, it was all a losing game. Just like with her mother, the human had come back again and again, learning his enemies' attack patterns, and getting closer and closer to victory every time until he finally succeeded. Star sighed in frustration. They didn't understand. Nobody did. There was no way to "win" against an enemy who could come back to life as many times as they wanted, with the knowledge of his previous defeats having been drilled into his head. She was the only one that knew the truth. That knew the kind of power he possessed. That had been why she kept out of sight, refusing to fight him, knowing it was a losing battle. Of course, that had caused hysterical and outraged cries from the few citizens that remained. The king and queen dead, and the princess had run away like a coward. She had seen them, spitting at the ground when her name was mentioned, saying that they couldn't believe she had ever deserved having her family's name when she had up and abandoned them like this. They didn't understand it was pointless. None of them did.
Star had been watching him since her mother's death, seeing the dozens of people that were slaughtered by his hand. She had been hoping to god that things wouldn't have come to this. That he would have a moment of realization and reset the world all the way back to what it had been. But, as she had seen the MHC and her father fallen, she had realized what he was really after. She had to act now, lest this world and the rest be brought completely out of existance. He had forced her hand, so she had decided to finally step in. She had walked over to the castle's throne room, waiting. There was no need to seek him out. She had known that he was going to find her here, eager to strike her down like he had done to her parents and countless other people.
The human had taken a step towards her. Star's eyes had moved back to meet his. His smile had somehow grown even wider, right hand clutched around his knife, eager to swing it at her and end her life.
"So," The princess said, closing her eyes. "I've got a question for ya." Opening her eyes, she saw that he had turned his head towards her, mockingly listening. Oh, he couldn't wait to hear this. The princess spoke again, "Do you think even the worst person can change? That anyone can be a good person if they just try?"
The human had given a shriek of laughter upon hearing this. He had taken another step towards her.
"Heh, alright," Star said, closing her eyes yet again. "I've got an even better question for you." The temperature of the room suddenly dropped about twenty degrees as Princess Star once again opened her eyes. This time, they were glowing a brilliant white, and her voice boomed out, sounding as though it was coming from inside the human's head as she spoke. "Do you wanna have a bad time? Because if you take one more step forward..." She paused, studying his reaction. "You're REALLY not going to like what happens next."
Another shriek of laughter came from the human. This was seriosuly the best she could do? He confidentally took another step towards her, his knife miming a slashing motion across his throat as he grinned at her.
"Heh. Well," Star said, closing her eyes again. The temperature had gone back to normal and she no longer spoke in an otherwordly booming voice. "Sorry mom. Sorry papa. This is why I never make promises."
