'Hey, Lily.' Sirius whispered.
Lily looked up from her sketch, she was drawing her and Marlene they were sitting together in front of the shrieking shack both holding up the peace sign (Ironic knowing about the sounds that come from there). The picture wouldn't move of course but it was still a fun pastime that calmed her down every time her redhead temper flared. It was peaceful and she could do it in the noisiest of places without messing up.
'Um, hi?' The redhead said awkwardly.
'Do you want to go to the Christmas ball with me? I know you don't like me, but you like James, and James will be jealous and try to pursue you after the ball. It's up to you I'm not trying to force you, just tell me tomorrow.' He said glancing at James who was animatedly telling Peter about the latest quidditch game. Then he left the common room.
Lily was up all night thinking about what Sirius had said, she wanted to go out with James but if this was going to help her it was going to help him too. After all what sort of girl would take advantage of a guy?
'Guess what, guys?!' A very excited Sirius screeched when they woke up, 'I got a date to the ball!' He sang the last bit like ba-a-ll. Remus stilled; he was pulling on his robes for the day and was quite shocked when Sirius announced this, not to mention jealous. It was no secret that Remus liked him. Everyone but Sirius knew this. But no matter how much Remus tried to hint at this to poor, innocent Sirius, he didn't get it.
'With who?' James asked
Sirius gulped; he really didn't want to get hexed 'Lily Evans.'
This time it was James's turn to still. He turned slowly. 'Evans? The girl I've been head over heels for the last 6 years?' Sirius nodded hesitantly. 'Way to go, Padfoot.'.
He and Remus left the room, and Peter followed closely behind.
He had somehow managed to lose all of his best friends.
James avoided Sirius, and Remus only spoke a few words to answer any questions that Sirius asked. He would rather have James shouting at him than the silent disapproval he was receiving. Remus talked to him, but there was a wall between them—a wall he didn't know how to climb over.
Lily and Sirius had to look love-struck for the sake of their plans; it was uncomfortable to do so when all Lily wanted was for it to be another brunette she was flirting with. James wouldn't talk to Lily or Sirius, and it seemed to be affecting Sirius a lot. He would glare at everyone and everything; there was considerably less chaos in the school, not that the most chaotic ensuing group was broken up.
Oh and did I mention that the Christmas ball was 5 weeks away?
