Rivercourt Rambles
Chapter 34
It would be a terrible mistake to go through life thinking that people are the sum total of what you see."
"This is where our session ends. Should i book you another appointment. Same time different day.?" The therapist asked.
"Can i think about it annd get back to you.?" Lucas questioned.
"Of course. If you don't feel that we're a right match i can transfer you to someone else."
"I think at some point. We should bring you're wife in on these sessions. I could counsel the both of you at once."
"You have my card." The therapist said.
As Lucas left the office. He found himself. Just driving around. With no real destination in sight.
What made Lucas pull off to the side of the road. Was a phone call from Brooke.
"I dropped Sloane and Roman off at Karen and Keith's. Their off from work. I really need to talk to you. Alone." Brooke explained.
"Where do you want to meet.?" Lucas asked.
"The Beach House." Brooke replied.
"I'll be there as soon as i can." Lucas replied.
After driving for some time. Lucas had arrived at their Beach House. The couple purchased it. Two years ago. It once belonged to an older couple who retired and left town.
They transformed it into a safe haven.
Last summer was the first time they brought Roman and Sloane to spend days overnight there. It was a break from reality for awhile. It was really nice. The wifi connection wasn't good so they left electronics at home.
Lucas parked his car next to Brooke's.
He found her inside the home. Awaiting him in the living room.
"What did you want to talk about.?" Lucas asked. When he entered the living room. And sat down beside her.
"I think it's needed for us both if we get separated."
"Time apart. To . Figure out if a life together is what we both still want." Brooke announced.
"How do we go from discussing having another baby to separation.?" Lucas asked.
"I've been tying myself in knots. Trying to keep this family together. Hold up our marriage. Save you from yourself."
"Where do i fit in Lucas? The last thing i want is to bring a new child into turmoil."
"Somewhere along these past few years i lost myself."
"I loved and stood by you. Allowed you to make me feel like a passenger in our marriage instead of a partner."
"Plus i want to reopen Clothes over Bros." Brooke explained.
Lucas let out a frustrated sigh. "It always comes back to that. The store. You're work. Obligations."
"What about what this family needs.? Why are you being so stubborn and selfish.?" Lucas asked.
