Bowsette: A New Life

Chapter 65
Insane Princess

Bowsette was standing there staring at the spot where her other self had met their end. Slowly, Mario walked up to Bowsette and gently put a hand on her arm. "Are… are you-a okay Bowsette?" He asked.

Bowsette turned to Mario and grinned. "Better than ever Pasta Freak." Bowsette turned her head to the double doors ahead. "Let's get this over with…" Bowsette walked to the door with Mario right behind her. Opening the doors cautiously, the duo looked for traps in the next room. Inside was a spiral staircase leading up. The two took their time watching for any traps as they walked up the staircase but found none.

Bowsette almost wished there would be a trap. Anything to break the mind-numbing silence besides hers and Mario's footsteps as they kept going up. The only other sounds were the crackling from the magical torches lighting the staircase and the breeze from the tiny, barred windows every few steps along the outer wall.

'Shit. This is creepy.' Bowsette wished magic to make structures much bigger on the inside than the outside wasn't a thing, or they'd be at the roof already. As it was the staircase wasn't ending, though both could tell it wasn't one of those magical endless staircases Bowser had tried to trip Mario up with once.

KRAKOW!

Finally, thunder from the pink lightning outside broke the silence. Thunder and flashes of pink illuminated the stairwell as the duo continued to climb. "Great. Hey Pasta Freak, is it usually this creepy when you go through my castles?" Bowsette asked trying to break the tension.

Mario scratched his head and nodded. "Yeah, sometimes it-a is. Though it's usually you are making it-a unnerving." Mario pointed out.

Bowsette scoffed. "I know! I usually like this kind of ambiance. But…" Bowsette stopped talking as they finally reached the door at the top of the stairs. They looked at each other and could both somehow feel it, Peach was past that door. Their expressions hardened with determination, and they nodded before mutually moving to open it.

The lightning and thunder grew louder and more frequent as the two stepped into a large throne room. Atop a set of stairs at the back of the room sat none other than Princess Peach on a throne with one Bowsette statue on the armrest destroyed.

Peach sat there, her cheek leaning against her hand, making her appear bored. Her dress was frayed around the edges and her hair was a mess. Her wrists still were shackled, to broken chains almost 2 dozen feet long which slightly rattled when she moved. "So… you are here." The infected woman said with a faux calm that carried an undertone of malice. "Did you come all this way to see the truth?" She pointed a finger towards them, and it sparked.

"Of course not." Peach put her finger down. "You're immune to that now." Peach grinned. "That's right… I've been watching you. How you made your brother blind to the truth again because he was stupid enough to fall for your tricks." Peach's tone was mildly irritated.

Peach scowled and pointed at Bowsette. "We've especially been watching you Bowser. The one who started all this. Still wearing that disguise, I see. You finally figured out force wasn't going to work so you turned to seducing your enemy instead." Peach sneered. "I wonder how long you will keep up with the act?" Peach looked at Mario. "How long will it be before she kills you?"

"Oh, shut the Underwhere up you crazy fake Peach." As a courtesy from one villain to another, but she was getting sick of listening to the woman's rambling. "This is no disguise." Bowsette gave a mocking curtsy. "I am Bowsette."

"How delusional, and you call me crazy." Peach scoffed and turned your attention to Mario, who put up his guard in response. "What's the matter Mario? Haven't you come here to rescue your princess just like always?" Peach taunted.

"Yes." Mario said simply. "I'll always rescue-a Peach." Mario's voice was flat.

Peach slammed a fist down, destroying the other Bowsette statue on the throne. "Then… you should accept the truth and fight on my side, against her!" Peach noticed Mario's stance didn't change. "No? I thought you loved me?"

Mario shook his head. "No. I never loved-a you." Venom was creeping into Mario's voice. "I loved Peach. I loved the-a refined woman who wouldn't hurt a fly. It was-a rare she would even raise a hand in her-a own defense, that's how gentle and delicate she-a is."

"Her smile only heightened her beauty." Bowsette continued. "Her laugh warmed even my heart the rare times I heard it. She was radiant inside and out. Is it any wonder both of us fell in love with her?" Bowsette turned from reminiscing to scowling. "And then there's you."

"You're a mockery of-a everything Peach ever stood for, everything she ever was." Mario and Bowsette followed each other's words like they knew what the other was going to say. "You and-a your 'Remnants' destroy homes. You take the lives of innocent peace-loving people or make them like you."

A little Toad kid appears in Bowsette's thoughts. "You'll even take parents away from their children. Peach would never do any of these things. And all in a futile attempt to bring back an old dead world." Bowsette scowls.

"When this-a world might not be so bad." Mario glanced at Bowsette. "It might-a even be a bit better in some-a ways." Mario sighed. "I think we have-a real chance at peace now. Isn't that-a worth a few changes?" Mario asked.

Peach sat there watching the two speak back and forth. "Heh heh heh…" Peach starts to laugh, her head down blocking view of her face. Her laughter slowly builds, getting more deranged by the moment. With her voice distorted by the infection, she could be thought to be crying instead. "Ha ha ha…. Hehhehha!"

Peach's head snapped up and she laughs at the ceiling. "HeheHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Peach's mad laughter could now be taken for screams of agony.

"Haaaah…" The laughter tapers off at last. "It's funny how pathetic you both are." Finally, Peach stood up from her throne. "I knew neither of you will ever see the truth." With both arms, Peach snaps the chains of the shackles around her arms against the floor as though they were whips.

"Then there is nothing else to be done. Both of you" Peach slammed one chain and then the other against the floor again. "must… DIE!" Peach shrieked and charged at Bowsette and Mario, screeching like a wild animal.

Author's Note: Thus, the final battle begins.

To make one thing clear, I never went into this fanfic intending to make Peach into the final villain of the story. That was the result of months of writing and grew out organically as I wrote the story. I basically came up with the pink infection lightning, decided to would be interesting if Peach got infected, then it went from there.

I feel the need to clarify this because I didn't want readers to get the wrong idea. I like romance fanfics that gets two characters together that didn't in the original. What I hate more than anything else with said fanfics is when they villainize the canon love interests of said characters in order to hook up said characters. Making said canon love interests vile, vindictive, and especially outright evil when in canon they are not makes my blood boil.

Hence, why Peach is not in her right mind when she goes evil in this fic. It was never my intent to sideline nor demonize Peach in any way to make the relationship between Mario and Bowsette work.
