Return of the Old World
Ch8: Awakening
In the halls of Scarab's Pyramid the two search parties of Spies, Mummies, and the Chan's battle upward towards the Penthouse. Armon and Tohru lead the charge out of the elevator slamming into Shabti's shattering them. The two search parties coverage in front of the doors that lead the Penthouse. Jackie looks up at Jade sitting on Tohru's shoulders, he's disappointed in his niece.
Jackie: Jade I can't believe you would-
Ja-Kal cuts Jackie off saying, "If it's all the same to you Chan, you can discipline her after we rescue Rapses!". Jackie nods at the mummified warrior and Ja-Kal nods back. He then waves to Tohru and Armon to come help bring the door, Jade jumps down from Tohru's shoulder to talk with her uncle while the two mammoth sized warriors begin to work on breaking the door down.
Jade: Uncle Jackie look I'm sorry but can you blame me?! It's the end of the world this kind of an all hands on deck mission!
Jackie looks down on her sternly but before he can say anything Nefertina exclaims, Uh guys any progress on that door?". Much of the group turns around to see dozens of Shabti's amassed at the end of the hallway. Captain Black's eyes widen at the amount of Clay soldiers ready to attack. He turns back to see Tohru and Armon nothing using their collective size and force as human battering rams but the doors are reinforced.
Capt Black: Sorcerers! Help the our friendly giants break down the door! The rest of you with me!
Rath and Uncle immediately begin blast at the door while Tohru and Armon hammer away. Captain Black aims down the hallway while his men and Ja-Kal all do the same. Jackie nudges Jade to stand beside Uncle and Rath while him, Khati, and Nefertina stand behind the Section 13 soldiers, they ready them selves for any Shabti that sneaks through. A barrage of bullets and fire arrows from Ja-Kal flood the hallway shattering Shabti after Shabti but it is seemingly never ending. Each Shabti getting closer and closer. Back at the door Uncle and Rath are furiously chanting blast the door until Uncle gets an idea.
Uncle: Rath! We must empower the Tohru and Armon.
Rath: Agreed!
The two sorcerers blast their two large allies, the blast washes over them with a mystic glow that energizes them. The pair of gentle giants look at each other nodding and then charge directly into the door. The loud thud echoes down the hall. Behind them Shabti's begin to beat down soldiers which cause Jackie, Nefertina, and Khati to jump in to dispatch these Shabti's. Jade looks back at the fire fight and tries to encourage Tohru and Armon.
Jade: Uhh hey guys no pressure but uhm… They're practically right here how's the door?!
Armon yells, "Out we're working on it!". Both Tohru and Armon look at each other and countdown from three and then charge at the door crashing into. The door is now finally dented and the impact echoes down the hallway. The two giants walk back somewhat proud but turn to see their Allie's struggling to fight back an Onslaught of Shabti's. They look at each other one more time and count down again.
Tohru: One…
Armon: Two….
Tohru & Armon: THREE!
They run at speeds the two of them thought impossible for them side by side and step by step. They collide into the door with so much force that it flies off the hinges. Uncle yells back at his allies, "Come quick! The door is open!" Jackie, Uncle, Jade, and the mummies run through the now open doorway but as Captain Black attempts to lead his mean through the doorway something happens. The leader of Section 13 face plants in the doorway as if there was an invisible wall there.
Jackie runs up confused placing his hand and feels something solid where there should be nothing. He asks Captain Black, "Are you alright?". The Captain gives him a thumbs up but then turns around to see his men still fighting off Shabti's.
Capt Black: We'll hold off the Shabti's! Go rescue the kid!
Jackie watches his longtime friend run back into the fray and then walks alongside his family and newfound Mummy allies walk through out the decadent penthouse until they finally come upon an armored Scarab standing side by side with Kan Ra and Heka. The wicked sorcerers stand in front of Presley strapped down on a stone table.
Scarab: You are just in time!
Ja-Kal: Let him go!
Kan Ra clenches his fist tightening the straps binding Presley, the young pharaoh cries out in pain. The undead sorcerer laughs at his pain and tells Ja-Kal and his rescue party, "HAHAHA I WILL DO NO SUCH THING!". Scarab opens his armored hand revealing the Summoning Key as it levitates above his palm and even more Shabti's pile out from seemingly nowhere encircling around the heroes and villains. Jade looks at her uncles telling them, "I'm so tired of all these clay guys! Doesn't he have any variety with his minions?". Scarab looks up to see Ming and Celia Penderghast watching from the rafters, Ming smiles and with his robotic hand gives Scarab a thumbs down.
Scarab: ATTACK MY SHABTIS!
The clay soldiers charge at the group of heroes but they respond in kind. Tohru quickly picks up Jade placing her on his shoulders as he charges at the Shabti's head on. Armon, Nefertina, and Khati all begin to fight the Shabti's off while Ja-Kal, Jackie, Rath, and Armon charge at Kan-Ra, Scarab, and Heka. Jackie jumps over the head of Scarab while Uncle blasts the dark sorcerer with a blast from his pufferfish while Rath and Kan-Ra fight head on, Jackie about grab the Summoning Key midair but looks up to see a woman he's never seen before. Celia comes down on Jackie boot first in his face. He crashes down on the ground writhing in pain, he looks up to see Celia standing over him with her blade pointing in his face.
Celia: I've heard so much about you and to see it's this easy to take you-
Before she can finish her sentence she's pounced on by Nefertina who has she brings her to the ground yelling, "WE HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS ASSASSIN!". Meanwhile Rath and Kan-Ra are going at each other with a ferocity most would think Rath would be incapable of, he swings his massive sword at his former master but Kan-Ra dodges every strike with his hands behind his back. Rath goes for what he thinks will be the kill but his blade is then met by Kan-Ra's dagger, while Rath looks shocked Kan-Ra has a sinister grin on his face.
Rath: How is that possible?!
Kan-Ra: Rath, you were one of my brightest pupils and yet…. YOU LACK CREATIVITY!
Suddenly a large burst of wind pushes Rath over he falls to the ground, Kan Ra towers over him telling Rath, "GET UP! I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS DAY!". Rath quickly gets up and gets right back to fighting Kan-Ra.
Meanwhile, Ja-Kal and Uncle battle Scarab and Heka for the Summoning Key while Presley squirms. Scarab and Ja-Kal take the fight to the air as Heka remains on the ground shooting lasers from her eyes at Uncle. Scarab tosses Ja-Kal into the rafters, the mummy grasps on the rafters and looks up to see black boots which catches him off guard. Ja-Kal looks up to see Ming looking back at him, his piercing yellow pupils scowling at the mummy. Ming uses his telepathic powers causing Ja-Kal to feel violently ill almost as if he had vertigo, Ja-Kal's fingers slip and he plummets to the ground. Uncle lays down cover fire with his pufferfish to check on Ja-Kal.
Uncle leans over to the Mummy asking him, "Are you alright?". Ja-Kal rubs his head and looks up into the rafters to see nobody up there, "I am fine.". Scarab then flies back down, his arms wide open goading the heroes.
Scarab: Are you ready to face your demise?
Ja-Kal gets back up activating his jet pack flying straight towards Scarab and the two go right back at it. Uncle runs over to Presley who is still strapped down to the table. Uncle grabs the Summoning Key from the air and blast Presley's restraints freeing him.
Uncle: Presley, are you alright?
Before Presley can respond Jackie is thrown into the side of the table as both he and Nefertina fight Celia at the same time. Celia's jaw drops as she sees the Summoning Key in the hands of Uncle and sprints toward him. Jackie and Nefertina quickly engage but suddenly the heroes all fall to their knees and begin to squirm in pain. Scarab, Kan Ra, Heka, and Celia all stand over the heroes with their army of Shabti's, the unconscious bodies of Captain Black and the soldiers of Section 13 are all thrown onto the floor. Presley looks up to see Scarab standing over gloating with and ear wide grin on his face.
Scarab: It's over Rapses! Your soul is mine!
Suddenly Presley feels a strange energy burning inside of him, it hurts only for a moment but then it feels like nothing. Presley's begin to glow a bright white. Scarab and the other villains look terrified with the exception of Ming who watches from the rafters he smirks down at Presley before he disappears into the shadows.
Presley: No it's mine!
Presley blasts Scarab back into the wall, the other villains looking on in horror as the heroes get back to their feet surprised to see Presley using these god like powers. Presley begins to levitate disintegrating all the Shabti's at once. Kan-Ra and Scarab are both telepathically caught by Presley, the reincarnated Pharaoh begins to have them dangling telepathically the ledge but instead of dropping them he launches them toward the Golden Gate Bridge. The two pair of sorcerers descend rapidly until they finally make it to the Western Gate crossing over into Duat.
Presley now pulsing with energy turns to see that Heka has slithered away hiding but Celia is surrounded by the Mummies, Soldiers of Section 13, and Jackie's family.
Nefertina: I'd put your sword down if I was you girl!
Ja-Kal readies an arrow telling Celia, "You are severely outnumbered and unable to overpower us all!". Jackie gets in a defensive stance and all the Section 13 soldiers aim their guns on her. She raises her hands in defeat but this all a trick as she quickly turns into multiple sheets of paper and flies away with the breeze. Presley descends to the ground his eyes no longer glowing. He looks around to see the Mummies all crowd around him.
Ja-Kal: Rapses are you injured?!
Rath: What did they do you to you?
Nefertina: What did that evil rodent faced warrior do to you?!
Armon: Kid are you hungry?
Presley laughs at their overly concerned questions and responds with, "Guys I'm alright! Truly! The powers are kinda new but I think I can make it work." Presley looks out the window to see a two helicopters flying over the balcony.
Capt Black: That would be our cue! Mummies and Ground forces go back downstairs and secure your vehicles, the rest of you head to the choppers!
The Mummies lead a handful of Section 13 operatives to the lower levels while Presley boards one the choppers with Captain Black and the Chans. The Chopper takes off and Presley walks up to Jackie.
Presley: Thank you for finding me, I've been kinda hard on you and the others and I just wanna say-
Jackie kneels down to Presley's level telling him, "Apology accepted. I understand where you were coming from. Being a kid is hard enough without undead bodyguards and powers you didn't ask for.". Presley smiles back at Jackie but his smile drops when he realizes his mom must be worried sick for him.
Presley: OHMYGOD! MY MOM!
Capt Black then looks over and walks over to the young Pharaoh alongside Uncle telling him, "Don't worry kid! Lying to protect identities is what we do best! We've already got a good cover story for you!". The group of heroes gather around Presley.
Capt Black: The story is you ran away from home because you are stressed from school and you miss your dad! We've already alerted the local authorities and they're calling off their search now, Jackie will be bringing you home.
Uncle: The Summoning Key will be locked away within the vault at Section Thirteen! Starting this week Rath and I will be overseeing Presley's honing is newfound powers!
Capt Black: Section Thirteen will also begin round the clock surveillance for you until the threat of this Scarab and his benefactor have been neutralized!
Jade: More bodyguards! Now you must really feel like Queen of England!
The group begin to laugh at Jade's joke. Presley looks around at his newfound allies with a sense of gratitude. He looks out the window to see the skyscrapers of Downtown San Francisco. He looks back at his rescuers with a nod of approval saying, "Let's go home!".
Later that evening, Jackie and Presley stand at the front door of Amanda's house. The Archeologist and the reincarnated Pharaoh look at each other before they are ready to ring the doorbell.
Jackie: Remember what Captain Black told you?
Presley: I ran away because I'm stressed due to my workload at school and I miss my dad. I have nothing against you Jackie it just gets hard sometimes… That sounds good?
Jackie: Perfect!
The two of them both knock on the door and it only takes a few moments before Amanda opens it. She's caught by surprise and her face goes from stressed to relieved in no time at all. Amanda bear hugs Presley and mouths the word "Thank you" to Jackie.
The next day in the antique shop, Uncle and Rath watch the local news talk about the attack on the Pyramid.
News Anchor: Last night armorers vehicles crashed into Harris Stone's Pyramid in Downtown San Francisco last night. Loud explosions and gunshots were heard throughout the hours of the night, some even claiming to see the urban legends dubbed the "San Francisco Mummies"! However when asked about the attack last night, Stone's spokesperson said "What happened last night was simple. It was a drill for our late night security team. Harris is currently on Vacation which gave our security ample opportunity to push their limits. When asked about the mummies they declined to comment any further.
Uncle laughs to himself and turns the small TV off before going into the break room of the antique shop. Inside the break room Jade and Presley play the new Sumo Slammers game alongside Tohru and Armon.
Uncle: Rapses! No time for games, come quickly! Tohru you also have no time for games! Rath and I are waiting for you!
Both Tohru and Presley get up from the couch and walk towards Uncle. Presley looks up at Uncle to see with a determined but frustrated look in his eye. Uncle tells Presley, "If we are to protect this world you must be ready for anything!". The door closes behind them and Jade looks on smiling and Armon looks at her puzzled.
Armon: What's up?
Jade: I just realized that the J-Team is gonna need to do some expanding and I think Uncle is training our next recruit!
Armon just shrugs the comment off and asks her, "So how do you play?". Jade chuckles and begins to explain how to play the game.
Two night later, In the Bay a barge boat moves toward the Golden Gate Bridge. On the deck of the boat Ming stand's beside Celia Penderghast and Heka who slithers at their feet. Ming uses his telepathic abilities as a homing beacon, when suddenly Kan-Ra and Scarab both fly out of the Western Gate landing on the bridge of the boat.
Scarab: Did our ruse work?
Ming: Not only were you successful in activating Rapses powers but the Summoning Key is now being held by Section Thirteen. The Chi Wizard and the Scholar no doubt will try to understand the Summoning Key but will ultimately get nowhere with it.
Kan-Ra: The power of the Apothicans will soon be ours!
Ming: Indeed it will. Now gentlemen, let us get to work!
