Chapter 66
Chains of Royalty
THWAP! Before she was anywhere near Mario and Bowsette Peach swung a chain towards them making them dodge. Peach took the opportunity to run between them and then spun, laughing all the while. This turned her into a cackling and deadly tornado of chains.
Bowsette and Mario had to leap over the insane infected to avoid the attack and try to think of some way to fight back. The chains gave Peach great range, and Peach was now even stronger than she was when the duo had subdued her down in the Toad Town sewers. Standing side by side, Mario saw Bowsette preparing to breath fire and joined in, preparing his hands to launch fireballs. A massive torrent of fireballs spilled out from the two of them.
However, Peach responded by spinning around one of the chains in the direction of the attackers. It easily deflected the fireballs like they weren't there. "Fuck!" Bowsette exclaimed. "Any ideas Mushroom Muncher?" Bowsette asked as Peach rushed at them again.
"Between!" Mario ran full tilt at the insane infected and dodged the whipping chains before leaping over the Princess. Mario continued to run until he was out of range of the chains. With the Princess between them now she had to try to fend off and attack the duo from two directions. Peach wildly whipped the chains around at the two of them. Bowsette and Mario had to bat away the chains he with his hammer and she with her claws to keep the chains from hitting them. Between that and backing away to maintain distance the duo made little progress in getting close enough to fight back.
After half minute of this stalemate one of the chains managed to wrap around Mario's hammer. Mario pulled hard to keep the hammer in his hand for a moment when an idea struck him. He continued to fight for the hammer until he couldn't exert any more force, then Mario let go.
The reaction was immediate. The hammer went flying at Peach like a missile, so fast that Peach had no chance to react before the hammer hit her directly in the forehead. However, that was merely the preamble. Mario ran to follow the hammer as it flew, and right after it struck, Mario followed up with a punch to the stomach, sending Peach flying.
During all this Bowsette, sensing an opportunity to attack, ran at Peach to try to strike her herself. This proved to be a mistake, however. As Peach was being thrown by Mario's punch, Peach twisted in midair to avoid Bowsette's strike to try to ping pong Peach between the two. Moving the chain with a flick of her wrist while still moving through the air, Peach landed as the chain wrapped around Bowsette's neck.
"Uck! Ack! Blac!" Bowsette struggled to breathe as the chain wrapped around her throat and grew taunt. She couldn't stop herself from her feet going along on reflex as Peach pulled the Koopa Queen towards her. Finally, Peach wrapped around a few more links as Bowsette reached her. Bowsette could only take what little breaths she could manage as Peach choked her and claw fruitlessly at the chains around her neck.
With nearly any other chains in the world Bowsette would be able to simply snap off with little effort with her strength alone, but not these. These chains were enchanted by the Mushroom Kingdom Mages to be strong enough to restrain even the infected Peach herself.
"Bowsette!" Mario ran at them in the few seconds it had taken for Peach to seize Bowsette. Only to stop in his tracks at the sight of Peach's eyes and wicked grin. If he pushed, Peach would probably stop playing around and just snap Bowsette's neck.
"Look at how he looks at you." Peach whispers to her captive. "After all you've done he's standing there looking for a way to save you. You don't deserve him." Peach sneered. "You don't deserve anyone. You are a monster."
Bowsette fought to breathe and stay conscious. "There's a Ack difference between me a… and Peach" Bowsette managed to begin as she tried to pull away. Bowsette raised her foot and slammed her heel down on Peach's foot hard enough that she punctured right into even the resilient infected's foot.
"ARG!" The infected Peach screamed in agony. Bowsette didn't stop there however, she lunged backwards and slammed the back of her head into Peach's face as hard as the Koopa could. As Peach staggered back the chain finally had some slack. Bowsette took advantage of it to quickly get the chains off from her neck. Bowsette didn't relent and followed up with a roundhouse kick.
The impact of the kick to Peach's chest was far harder than Mario's punch earlier and again sent Peach flying, this time too hard and fast to react. Peach slammed into the throne she had been sitting in minutes ago with such force that the stone throne shatters from the impact. "I don't stand around waiting for someone to save me." Bowsette finally finished.
The duo waited for the dust to clear and spotted a disheveled Peach rise from the remains of the throne. She clutched her chest and glared at the two but didn't attack. "This… this isn't over!" Peach growled. Peach leapt back, turned, and ran through the doors behind the ruined throne.
