Chapter 7
First Date
(October 21st)
The following morning, Izuku went on his morning jog. Elisa and Uraraka visited several stores as Uraraka had asked her guardian for help preparing for tonight's date.
When Elisa was told about this, she was surprised at first. But after hearing Uraraka say this was her first date, she didn't know what to do. Elisa agreed to help the girl by getting her some nice clothes and shoes and choosing appropriate makeup.
While the two were gone. Izuku himself was getting ready in the apartment. He went through the clothes in his duffle bag, which contained his hero costume, U.A. gym clothes, and regular shirts and pants. However, Izuku found a folded dress shirt and pants in the bottom of the bag and a note written in familiar handwriting.
"I packed these in case you go somewhere nice. I hope they help. Love your mother, Inko Midoriya."
Smiling at this, Izuku thanked his mom mentally. "I'm sure Mom would be in tears if she learned I was going on a date," Izuku said to himself as he unfolded the clothes and then set them on the bed before showering.
Once he was done and dressed, Izuku looked in the newspaper to see what movies were playing, as Elisa didn't have a computer.
"Sometimes I miss looking up things online. However, given that many of the websites and companies don't exist yet, a man's got to get by with what he's got," Izuku stated as he checked out the entertainment section for showtimes.
As he was doing this, the door opened, and Uraraka headed for the bedroom to shower first. Elisa came in and joined Izuku in the kitchen. She noticed his choice of clothes for the evening. "Nice duds, Izuku," she said to him.
"Oh, thanks, it was a gift from my mom," the young man said as he put down the paper.
"So, you excited for tonight?" Elisa asked gently.
"Yeah, but also a little scared as this is my first date," Izuku replied nervously.
Seeing this, Elisa knew that Izuku needed a pep talk.
"That's what Uraraka told me earlier. And I will tell you something: it's natural to feel this way. I felt the same with my date, and he felt the same way. There were moments when he couldn't look at me, afraid of saying the wrong thing. But I told him that things would be OK. These are the same words I'm giving to you. Do you think you can do this, Izuku?" Elisa asked with a smile.
Taking in her advice, Izuku thought about it for a moment and then gave Elisa his answer. "I can," he said confidently.
"Good to hear. Just relax for now while I go help Uraraka get ready," Elisa told him as she left the room, leaving the young man to continue looking at the paper.
An hour later, Izuku was watching an episode of the TV show called Rugrats, which he found interesting for its premise. When the show went to a commercial break, Izuku noticed something that got his attention. It was for a show called The Pack.
"Whenever evil threatens the innocent, the Pack is there to save the day!" the voice of the announcer said dramatically as an image of five people appeared on the screen.
Looking at the people, Izuku saw two women and three men. Each person wore a different colored outfit and appeared of various ages. Izuku noticed they were athletic and strong as they took down several ninjas like pro heroes.
"Evil is no match for Wolf, Dingo, Jackal, Hyena, and Fox!" the announcer said as each member was shown in an action pose, followed by the title of the team's name and what times the show aired.
"Hmm, those people may look like heroes, but they seem more like villains!" Izuku said to himself after the commercial ended. "Then again, I remember reading how people in the past thought those who looked bad were cool. And I guess the Pack falls under that," he added while thinking back to history class at U.A.
"Izuku, you may want to brace yourself. May I present to you your date!" Elisa exclaimed to the young man, who turned around and saw the detective standing in the doorway. Elisa then stepped aside, revealing Uraraka. She wore a light pink blouse, skirt, and matching short-heeled shoes. She also had some rose red lipstick and violet eyeliner.
Izuku blinked in amazement at how Uraraka looked. The last time he saw her in something like that was when they were on I-Island the previous summer.
"So, what do you think, Izuku?" Uraraka asked coyly.
Izuku quickly responded, "Oh, you look great, Uraraka. Very beautiful!" he said, then blushed at his final words.
"T-Thank you, Izuku; you look very handsome in that outfit," Uraraka replied.
Seeing this, Elisa couldn't help but giggle at the young romance before her. "OK, you two, here's some money for the movie and dinner," Elisa said to them as she gave them several large bills. "And I'll tell Goliath and the others you'll be busy tonight. So don't worry about that," she added.
"Thanks, Elisa," Izuku replied as he put the money into his wallet.
"No problem. If you two like. I can drop you off at the movies. But you will need to take the bus later as I have to work again," Elisa said.
The teens followed Elisa to her car outside. Someone watching them followed the three from the rooftops as they drove away.
(Movie Theater)
Half an hour later, Elisa dropped off the two at the theater Izuku picked in a popular area. Hoping they would be OK, Elisa said goodbye to Izuku and Uraraka as she drove off.
Walking to the theater entrance, Uraraka looked at the list of movies playing, including Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Pulp Fiction, Little Giants, Ed Wood, Timecop, and The Puppet Masters.
"So, Uraraka, I thought of one we would like to see. But if there's something you would like to see, I'll be up for it?" Izuku asked his date, who looked at him.
"Well…it seems we can't see a few of these due to their R rating. However, the one you picked for us, I'll enjoy it," Uraraka said with a smile.
"OK then," he said to her, then got in line with Uraraka and the other guests. After ten minutes of waiting, Izuku paid for two tickets for The Lion King. Then they both went inside, got some drinks and snacks, and found seats in the theater.
Inside the dark room, the two watched the animated feature, which was considered a masterpiece in their time. Both had heard of this movie but had not seen it because they focused on school and training back home.
However, now both were experiencing The Lion King for the first time, which was amazing. Both enjoyed the story, characters, humor, and songs.
Like those in attendance, the teens were saddened by Mufasa's death, so Uraraka hugged Izuku for comfort. In response, Izuku placed his left arm around her and held Uraraka for a while.
When the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" came on, Izuku felt Uraraka grab and hold his hand and hold it for the rest of the movie.
After it was done, both walked out of the theater with smiles. "Man, that was awesome. So, Epic! Thanks for picking that one, Izuku." Uraraka said excitedly.
"Oh, you're welcome. I'm glad you liked it. Seeing a movie like that was different from those back home," Izuku replied.
"Yeah, it was. So where do you want to go for dinner?" Uraraka asked next.
"Oh, um, that's something I was supposed to say. But since you asked, how about that Italian restaurant down the street?" he suggested, to which Uraraka said yes.
Once the two were inside, they waited for a few minutes until the waiter showed them to their table. After looking at their menus, both ordered two plates of spaghetti with side salads.
While waiting for their food, Uraraka noticed that Izuku looked concerned.
"Is everything alright, Izuku?" she asked.
"Hmm, sorry, it's just when we walked out of the theater, it felt like someone was watching and following us," he said quietly.
"Hmm, do you think it could have been one of the guys? Elisa did say she would tell them we weren't coming tonight," Uraraka guessed.
"Maybe, or it could be nothing," Izuku said back, then decided to change the subject. "So Uraraka, I noticed before that you started using my first name instead of my nickname. Is there a reason for this?"
"Oh well, you see, since Elisa was near us, I didn't want to call you Deku, or she might ask why, and I saw on T.V. that people on dates use their first names when talking to them," she explained, looking a little nervous.
"But if you don't like I could-"
"No, it's fine; I was just curious, is all," Izuku interrupted and reached over to grab her hand. "But if you like, you can me Deku when it's us," he added with a smile.
"… OK, sounds good to me," Uraraka said as she smiled at him. Then the waiter arrived with their salads, which made Izuku let her hand go as he and Uraraka started to eat.
While the two enjoyed their meal outside on the rooftops, the mysterious figure following the couple looked at them through binoculars.
"So, these two are my targets. Hmm, they don't look so impressive; they're just kids," the figure noted at first, but looking closer, something caught the figure's attention.
"Hmm, what's this…huh, it would appear the young man has some scaring on his hands. You normally don't see that in kids his age…this just got interesting!"
After this, the figure waited until the two finished their meal. When they left the restaurant and went for a walk, it created the perfect moment for the figure to strike.
Going down the street, Izuku and Uraraka decided to walk in Central Park for a bit before heading home. It was quiet at this time as not many people were around.
Once the two passed underneath a bridge, a cloud of smoke appeared around them, making the teens cough. "UGH! Where did this come from?" Uraraka asked as she had trouble seeing and breathing.
As did Izuku, who tried to see through the smoke. But he was soon struck from behind and fell to the ground. Getting back up quickly, Izuku grabbed Uraraka's hand as they ran out of the smoke.
Coughing for a bit, the two ran a few feet away. "What the heck was that about?" Uraraka wondered.
"I don't know, but something tells me it's-" Izuku was saying but stopped as he suddenly got very sleepy and soon passed out. Uraraka did the same, and the two were out cold.
(Castle Wyvern)
Three hours after waking up, Goliath enjoyed quiet time in the library with Bronx. Hudson was watching T.V. with Broadway, and Brooklyn and Lexington were on patrol.
Earlier, Goliath and the others had been informed by Elisa that Izuku and Uraraka wouldn't be coming tonight as they had plans of their own. This surprised the Gargoyles, as they were used to the teens coming around. But they understood that both had their own lives and would see them another night.
After reading about six chapters, Goliath decided to take a break as he got up and went to the kitchen. Bronx followed him because he needed to stretch. As the two headed there, Bronx stopped as his nose picked up a new scent.
Seeing this, Goliath asked Bronx what it was. He followed the guard beast outside. Things seemed quiet at first, but then Goliath heard footsteps nearby. Bronx growled at first upon hearing this too.
"Man, this place is huge. It's like something from a movie," a voice was heard which sounded curious.
"That's because it is real. Which I know after hitting my head against the stone wall!" another voice added.
Upon hearing this, Goliath climbed up the nearest turret with Bronx, where he could see who these intruders were. And what he saw made him blink in surprise.
Below him were two young humans who each had different colored hair. The first was a boy who had red, spiky hair, of all things. His dark clothes made it hard to see what he was wearing.
With him was a girl whose hair was done in a dreadlock style colored salmon pink. On top of her head was a device that Goliath had never seen before. Her clothes looked strange also. But then again, what did he know about human clothing?
Watching them walk across the courtyard, Goliath heard the two discuss things. But there was one thing that got his attention.
"Man, this place looks like a training course. A perfect place for a hero to train their Quirks," the red-headed boy stated.
"Heroes? Quirks!...could these two be from Izuku's time?" Goliath wondered. Then, he decided to find out as he glided down to meet the two.
To Be Continued.
(Author's Note)
It took me some time to write this chapter. But it's finally done.
The big highlight of this chapter was writing about Izuku and Uraraka's date. And bringing in two of their friends from the U.A. into the story. I was thinking about which ones should come, but in the end, I went with Eijiro Kirishima and Mei Hatsume as my picks.
How they will react to being in the past with their friends and meeting the Gargoyles and Elisa will be interesting.
The next chapter will arrive, if not by next month, then by the start of January. Till then, stay tuned.
