DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS
CH 4
DIMITRI
"How could you Alberta?"
"What are you talking about Rose?"
"Meredith!"
"What about her?"
I was back in Alberta's office after a quick little nap to get my schedule. She was just going over some things when Rose stormed in.
"Don't tell me you don't know?"
"Rose, I have no idea what you're talking about. You need to calm down."
"Calm down? How can I calm down when Meredith is Jesse's new Guardian."
"Rose, I'm sorry I didn't know. It's not up to me where someone gets placed. I would have never put her with him I promise." Rose started to breathe a little faster and she was starting to look pale. Then all of a sudden I saw her eyes roll to the back of her head, she was going down and fast. Thanks to my Dhamphir reflexes I was able to catch her before she hit the ground.
"Roza."
"Lay her down on the floor and let me call a nurse. This isn't the first time this has happened." I gently laid her down on the floor then took off my duster and placed it behind her head like a pillow. I picked her wrist up to check her pulse and it was racing. I couldn't help myself and brushed her sweaty hair out of her face.
"Roza, can you wake up for me?" She didn't budge and her breathing became more shallow. I started to rub her face with the back of my hand trying to get her to wake up.
"Come on Roza. Wake up for me." Her eyes started to flutter open.
"There's those beautiful brown eyes." She started to get up and panicked not knowing what had happened.
"Stay still, you just passed out." I said to her gently and grabbed her hand.
"Honey have you eaten today?" Alberta asked very motherly.
"I honestly don't know, I haven't been feeling the best and food is the last thing I want."
I gave her a look, the one thing I had always loved about her and thought was so endearing was her appetite. The fact she didn't want to eat was kind of alarming.
"I know, Comrade, I turned down food, who would have thought?" She tried to laugh, but I could tell she was struggling.
"Here let's get you sitting up." I put my other hand underneath her back and slowly helped her into a sitting position.
"How do you feel?" I asked still holding her hand, neither one of us was letting go.
"Dizzy, really sick to my stomach. I think I'm going to….." Alberta grabbed the trash can just in time for Rose to lean her head over it and start retching. Poor thing didn't really have anything to throw up so she was just dry heaving.
" Guardian Belikov can you help me get her to the clinic, we don't have time to wait for the nurse." I nodded my head and waited till she was done. I had pulled her hair back and was holding it out of the way.
"Rose. Do you think you could walk with our help?" She looked up from the trash can and I've never seen her look so defeated.
"I don't think I can." She barely got out.
"Is it ok if I carry you?" She nodded her head. I got to my knees and put one arm under her legs and the other under her back and picked her up. I stood up and steadied myself, not sure where I was going and waited for Alberta.
"Follow me." Alberta said as she walked out her office door.
"Bring back memories, comrade?" She said with a whisper.
"Yes." How could I forget it was one of the first times we had really sparred together. There was so much tension built up between us that we let it all out on the gym floor. I got her good and knocked her out and carried her to the infirmary, then carried her back to her room, where I spent the night for the first time.
"I could never forget that night, Roza." I whispered in her ear.
"I wish things had turned out different for us." She leaned her head on my chest and closed her eyes.
"Me too, Roza. Me too."
Turns out Rose was severely dehydrated , the Dr believed she had a condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a severe type of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. She was currently hooked up to an IV giving her fluids and some anti nausea medicine.
I have never seen her look so weak. That wasn't her, she wasn't weak, she was one of the strongest persons I've ever known. It killed me to see her this way. I was currently sitting in a chair waiting for another Guardian, a female to take my place and keep an eye on her.
"Guardian Belikov?" A female Dhamphir walked in with a short pixie cut that was bright pink.
"Yes" she walked closer to me.
"Hi I'm Guardian Brown, but you can call me Celeste." She stuck out her hand for me to shake.
"Dimitri, nice to meet you."
"I'm one of the female Guardians that lives in the same house as Rose. I'm here to relieve you, I'll sit with her till she is cleared to go."
"Thank you. She's been sleeping since the Dr hooked her up to the IV."
"Poor thing, I was lucky and never got this sick when I was pregnant."
"You have a child?"
"I do, she's five now and just started at St Vlad's. I was one of the first girls to live here. Once I had my daughter I had the opportunity to stay here so I did. I'd much rather protect them than some asshole Moiri. But you didn't hear me say that!" She winked at me.
"Secrets safe with me. To be honest, being here is making me question everything."
"It will do that to you. And before you ask, no Adrain's not the father."
"I wasn't going to…"
"I know what you have heard, I was in a relationship with a Moiri, we were high school sweethearts. When his parents found out they had me shipped off. I have no other family so I had no say in what happened to me. He was killed in a car accident and never got to meet his daughter. His parents have never seen her, you'd think they would want to at least meet her. She's the only link they have to their son."
"I'm sorry for your loss."
"Thank you, it's their reaction to my pregnancy that has made me indifferent to the moiri. They thought me and her dad were just a fling and when he didn't leave me when I became pregnant they were furious." She stopped talking for a second.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to dump all my business on you."
"It's ok, sometimes we just need to vent."
"Thank you for being a listening ear."
"Anytime." I stood up from the chair not taking my eyes off Rose.
"I guess I'll get going now" I started to walk out of the room and she stopped me.
"Hey, she's in good hands with me. And please don't break her heart anymore than it has been." She clapped me on the arm.
"I don't plan on it."
"Good."
I'm back. I hope you all are still hanging around.
