As soon as Saito stepped into the place, he noticed something very wrong, there was only one bed. It was a rather large bed with particularly nice pillows granted, but it was still only one bed. Saito mentioned that clearly, he would have to make do with a few sheets and a pillow since he would have to sleep on the floor. Louise looked at him and just asked him what does he mean by that? Saito remarked that there was only one bed, which meant he would need to sleep on the floor since no unmarried young lady would willingly share her bed with a guy she barely knew.
It was not something Saito actually expected, not in the slightest. If he had to live with this young woman, and if this sort of thing would happen, he was honestly expecting him to sleep on the floor or a makeshift bed at best. He did know several spells that could construct a rather comfortable set of beds for them both. "It is quite simple, I will sleep under the sheets and you can sleep on top of them, there should be no problem at all if we do that. So you see, there is no need for you to sleep on the floor at all."
She sat down on the bed and looked at him, "As if I could ask you to do something like that, you may not realize it, but in a matter of minutes you have done more for me than anyone I have known my entire life. As such I am immensely grateful to you, and to me, you came in as a shining knight to save a princess from a dreadful dragon, you even accepted to instruct me in ways I could regain much of my power, with little to no regard to whether or not you would be compensated for doing so. So please relax, and tell me if there is anything you require. I shall do my best to help you."
Saito had one uncle who was in his opinion quite the pessimist, he was quite harsh but in truth, he did help him avoid many mistakes that having an overly positive view of the world tends to cause or make it impossible to avoid. "I will accept this only if we both agree nothing wrong shall be done by either one of us, I shall respect you and you shall respect me. As long as we have this agreement I will accept to sleep like you suggested."
Louise told him to relax, how many times in his life had he had the opportunity to sleep in the same bed with a cute girl? He looked at her and told her that before getting summoned to their world, he lived in cabins with many people living in each of them, they were in a camp of sorts, and they each had to sleep in bunk beds, beds that were stacked one on top of the other, needed to use a ladder to get on the top bed, and these cabins were in fact shared by both boys and girls, so in theory he shared the same roof and even slept together with many girls. So his initial objection to this notion was not due to him being embarrassed or shy, it was only thinking of her well-being. Eventually, she would want to marry the man she loves, and he did not want her reputation to be tarnished.
"There is no reason for you to worry about that, I mean so far I was the most disliked and insulted student in the academy's history, I had zero successes when it came to casting a spell, doing an enchantment, or even making a potion. I was ashamed, but my classmates mocked me calling me the Zero, and now thanks to you, I have the chance to prove to them I am no Zero, that I can succeed, had it not been for these seals that were on me, I would be one of the best students here, and thanks to you I can prove how wrong they are in their impression of me."
Saito told her that he would do just that, and rest assured that his method of learning might be strange but in fact, it has a proven track record of actually producing results. He waited for her to get in bed and cover herself before he slept on the covers. She however could not sleep and asked him to tell him about his life and how he learned everything he knew. Seeing that she needed a story to help her fall asleep he decided to simply tell her in broad strokes about his life. Saito told her of his mother and father, and how they trained him in a rather strict and very demanding way, but it was always done with utmost care about his health and happiness.
Saito told her of the day he went to Camp Half-Blood and what this camp was, his many adventures with his friends and many times his life was close to being taken by some monster or even a villain. He told them of how he was trained to fight, and how his uncle taught him in every single possible way how to end a life. His uncle was focused on making Saito able to defend himself no matter the situation or what he had to defend himself with, his mother and father taught him magic in ways that sometimes made his head spin with how much information he had to learn and understand, but it got easier as he grew older. "Now after I have told you all of this Louise I have a question for you do you believe that commoners have magic.
No, Saito not until just now when you asked me why, because they actually do have magic except that it had not awakened within them, everyone in this world has magic hell even in my world they do it's just that in this world it's four times stronger, I have the power to awaken one's magic but also seal it away, I can also teach it to everyone this is how I'm going to teach you, but for now, I'm actually kind of hungry so I'm going to go to the kitchen, okay."
Silence is another form of approval, and thus since Louise said nothing about it, Saito decided to walk towards the first floor, thinking that is where the kitchen and mess hall would be. As he walked down the grand staircase and down to the lower floors he marveled at the architecture, even if by his standards they were using ancient techniques, he had to admit they had done wonders in keeping this old place as well as they had. This made him less worried about the structure collapsing due to poor maintenance or because of seismic activity.
He finally made it to the first floor and as he stepped down the last step he heard two people talking, one was a blonde young man, and he was talking with someone with short brown hair. They were apparently talking about her skill at making a dish called a souffle. Saito had to admit that her notions of a homemade souffle sounded intriguing, but right now he needed to know where he was supposed to be going. "Excuse me I hate to interrupt your lovely culinary conversation, but I am sort of lost here, could you please tell me where is the academy kitchen? I happen to not eat dinner and I am feeling quite peckish."
The young woman smiled and nodded her head, "Yes, I also had trouble getting around till Guiche here was kind enough to give me a guided tour of the main facilities of this place, it is quite immense, and you can get lost if you don't know where you are going, as for the kitchen, you are actually not that far, you go down that corridor and the entrance to the kitchen will be the last door on the left. You will probably not find many cooks at this hour of the night, but you can make a little something for yourself, to sate your hunger. You might be lucky and find one or two of the leftover pieces of bread from dinner."
Saito looked at him and then at her, "The name is Saito Hiraga, and you two are?" The blonde guy introduced himself as Guiche de Gramont, and the very kind aspiring young pastry chef was Katie de la Lotta. Saito thanked both of them and was about to leave when he heard him say that he would absolutely love to eat one of her souffles. To Saito, that sort of comment could be seen as an innocent interest in her culinary talents, shameless flirting, or some hidden message about devouring something other than a homemade dessert.
Right now he did not have time to dwell on this, he wanted to make himself something to quiet his feeling of hunger and be able to sleep, since he could tell that the following day could be quite hectic. The kitchen itself was huge, it could have half a dozen people working to make food, much to his shock they did actually have something equivalent to a refrigerator, it was an ice chest powered by magic. Katie was very much correct that they had a few baguettes, a few pieces of cheese, and some leftover slides pieces of meat that seemed to be leftover pieces of roast beef. Saito took a few of each, and he quickly made himself something to tie him over.
After he ate his two roast beef and cheese baguette sandwiches, he walked all the way back to the door that leads to the room where Louise was sleeping, he quietly tried to open the door to find the door had no key mechanism, so he had no real way to open it, until he thought if they value magic so much, they might have made it so only people who either have a charm or can use magic can open the door to a student's room. A sort of precaution for the safety of the students.
Well, Saito was not expecting to find Louise the way she was, apparently, she felt hot all of a sudden and decided to not put on a flimsy nightgown, and nothing else, Saito could tell because her underwear was still on the floor. Saito did his best to get her to go back under the sheets, but she was just kicking the sheets off her every time he managed to cover her up. He was honestly toying with the idea of conjuring a small twin bed straight out of one of the walls, but that would raise even more suspicions about how extensive his actual knowledge of magic actually was.
He knew that he was sent due to that prophecy, and he understood what he would have to face, but deep down he could not get the feeling that some of the people in their world, were actively working to release that dragon, be it for simple revenge, greed or plain cruelty, it didn't matter for Saito knew what would happen to everyone if the dragon were to succeed in his plans. Saito seeing there was no other alternative, decided to go to sleep on one of the chairs that was near a small student's work desk. It was not the most comfortable place he ever slept in, but it was far better than the cold granite that covered the floors. In the middle of the night, Louise got up and began to look for Saito feeling that he was not on the bed, seeing him sleeping slouching against a chair, she used magic to levitate him off the chair and placed him on the bed.
She then made sure he was comfortable before she too joined him in bed she pulled the covers over them both, and she fell asleep leaning close to Saito, who was sleeping so soundly that he didn't even notice anything at all.
Saito woke up a little earlier than he expected, and in a place, he didn't think he would be in, there he was sleeping on the bed, covered with the silk sheets and bed covers that he had watched Louise supposedly fall asleep under, and instead he was being hugged by a very much naked Louise. This was not part of what they agreed would happen, and he was sure that he didn't walk in his sleep, at least that is what he hoped.
Every part of his mind was screaming that this was a disaster waiting to happen, he needed to get out of bed and as quietly and quickly as possible as to be able to get out of it, place the covers still on the sleeping body of Louise, and then pretend to sleep on top of the bed cover as they had initially agreed, or so what the plan till he felt someone stir and look at him with a smile, he knew what he planned was now impossible seeing that she was already awake and for some reason was not reacting the way he thought she would.
"Good morning Saito, I hope you slept well, I saw that you were going to sleep sitting on that chair so I used a little magic to move you to the bed where you could be more comfortable, I never slept better in my entire life, I felt so comfortable and secure with you near me for some reason." Saito was not as joyful and as relaxed as she was until she mentioned not to worry, he was still very much dressed in the same clothes he wore before they got in bed, and he didn't seem like a person who would take advantage of the young woman whom he was going to teach so many wonderful things.
"That is true, I would never take advantage of you or ask you to do something that you are not completely in favor of, and agree with. That is simply not something anyone in my family would do or condone. As for me living in the same room as you, I shall impose on you till the Academy accepts me as a new instructor, and I will be assigned to my own room later, in the place for faculty to live, so I apologize if it takes time and if it makes you uncomfortable." Louise told him once again she was not unhappy or uncomfortable if he simply continued to sleep with her on the same bed, she knew that he was a gentleman since he didn't once attempt to take advantage of their current sleeping arrangements, other men would have done much worse.
"Saito, I don't know why, much I find you to be an immensely attractive and alluring presence. I do not know why, I never felt this way with anyone in my entire life, and even better you have done something no one in my entire life could ever do, you figured out a reason why I failed to cast magic, you can not imagine how happy I am to finally be able to use my magic without fear that it would destroy something or cause someone else harm."
Saito began to think of it and he quickly came up with a reason, so he had to explain it to her, "Louise, my family, has the blood of mythical creatures, others would consider either demonic or monsters, my family had relatives who were Succubi, Incubi, as such it goes without saying that I possess some of their traits, to make matters even worse I think my grandmother was a Vela, so given all these different traits in my bloodline, it could be that my body is simply releasing pheromones that make me this attractive to you."
Louise wanted to say that was natural, most men and women release such pheromones as a means to attract a potential mate, it was only natural for this to happen, and even animals do so even while being unaware of it. Since he was going to mention this much detail about his family, she decided to ask him something that was even more intimate. She wanted to know about his skills and abilities. "So Saito mind if I ask you what exactly can you do that no other mage can do? Do you have any abilities that make you unique from other magic practitioners?"
Saito closed his eyes thinking about it for a few minutes and then he simply decided to be open about his abilities with her, trust was essential if she was ever going to let him teach her brand new ways to use magic, and it would be nearly impossible for her to learn anything if she didn't trust the person teaching her. "Very well I can identify and learn any magic I see even once. This goes beyond simply magic spells, and I can tell at a glance what magic is the best for a person to use, and if a person has the capacity and ability to use magic but has not awakened it. If I find a person who has latent magical power, I can awaken it and the person will be able to start the long journey of learning how to use their magic. I can instruct them how to do that most efficiently because I can tell simply by looking if they are doing something wrong, and what it is they need. Which is why I was able to use that diagnostic spell to determine what your condition was, and how I knew which spell would unlock one of the two seals."
She understood why Saito was able to even think about her condition, he might have known what she was suffering from, but the diagnostic spell it seems was only cast to check what he was thinking about. "I am sorry to tell you this Saito but today, the academy is holding a small get-together to allow the students to get to know the other familiars that were summoned, and it also is to allow my classmates to socialize and develop our social skills, given that all of them are nobles, and would later need to have good social skills to do their duties." Saito's main question was what does that have to do with him? He is her instructor more than her familiar. Why would he even need to attend a party of her classmates?
Louise explained that since he was summoned by her, the others would expect him to show up at the party, and if he didn't, she could guarantee one person present would use this as her chance to mock and ridicule her calling her everything from a failure to something much worse, so even as she was still naked on the bed they had shared, she begged and pleaded for him to go with her to this get-together. Understanding the consequences and how she would suffer, he had no other alternative but to agree to go.
She was extremely happy that Saito was willing to attend the party, even if he didn't initially show that much interest in going, it was kind of touching to her that he was willing to go for her benefit even if he clearly still thinks he would either find it boring or simply not worth his time. "Come on Saito, trust me you will find something extremely fun there, and if not you get to meet and see all the other familiars that were summoned the same day you appeared here. At worst, you will have a fun learning experience."
Saito moved his hands and almost like it was the most natural thing in the world, his clothes began to change before her very eyes, and sure enough what had been casual clothes, became much more professional and dignified, almost like it was a suit worn by a high-class business owner attending a business meeting. She was so happy that he would go this far to make a good first impression for her sake. The more he did things like this, the more she found reasons to become even more attracted to him, she had more reasons why she did not want someone else to take him from her.
The gathering was done outside of the main academy building, the tables and chairs were placed on the academy's lawn, which to Saito looked like some rather great landscaper work on it since the lawn almost looked so uniform and clean that it looked like the entire area was one big green carpet. She could see her classmates already there, and the one she didn't want to see was already playing with her familiar, a rather showy Salamander doing tricks using fire breath. Guiche, Momonresti, and a few of her classmates were talking to each other, Saito walked with Louise as she was holding his hand as she came close to one of the tables, and Saito pulled a chair for her to sit.
Saito told Louise that he would get them both something nice to drink, so to be sure to wait a little bit, Louise was blushing when she told him that she would be waiting for him. As Saito began to walk where the refreshment was, a young woman he met before was there, she was looking around almost like she wanted to find someone. "Ah Katie, nice to meet you again, thank you for telling me where the kitchen was last time, but why does it look like you are looking for someone, can I help?"
She blushed and said that she actually was looking for Guiche, she did mention she brought a serving of her homemade souffle for him to try since the previous night, he had mentioned how interested and eager he was in his desire to taste it. Saito understood what she wanted to know and told her that Guiche was currently talking with some of his classmates at a table not far from where they were, so Saito decided to guide her to where Guiche was.
He did notice a few people attending and taking orders for people, but clearly, he could not ask them to take a cup of tea for Louise and one for himself, since clearly he was not dressed like any of the students, and nobody knew that he was a potential new teacher. As they stepped closer they heard what the blonde young woman near Guiche was saying, "I honestly don't believe you Guiche, I highly doubt you spent all night getting to know your familiar, I have been hearing rumors that you have been seen asking a first year out and even flirting with her."
Saito finally made sense of why Katie looked different from all these other students, "I get it, so they can tell which year a student is by the color of the mantle they wear, he wears one that is black and yours is brown, I was having a hard time figuring this out, but now it makes sense. Anyways Guiche, Katie came to give you a sample of the souffle you two were talking about last night."
Guiche was shocked when Saito said this and told him that was not true at all, he had not met anyone, which made the young blonde woman near him realize that those rumors were true, since there was a first year looking for Guiche it made sense she was the one Guiche was flirting with and two-timing them. "I don't know why you are denying it, you told her you wanted to taste the souffle she makes, I have to tell you, that I didn't get to eat anything before coming over to this party, and I would absolutely enjoy having something to eat right now so that souffle would surely help me deal with my hunger right now."
After what Guiche said and he denied even meeting with her, she was incredibly upset, and upon hearing those words she smiled and instead of letting Guiche have it, she handed Saito the souffle she was initially going to give to Guiche, "I would love to hear your opinion of my souffle, so please eat it, and be sure to tell me your honest opinion."
Without any delay, Saito accepted the souffle and took a big bite out of it, he marveled at the taste and texture of it, it was one of the best Saito ever tasted, it would be even better but some of the ingredients seemed bit rougher than what he remembers. "Katie, I have to tell you this souffle is among the best I ever tasted, if you want to improve it even more, I think I can actually help you if that is not too presumptuous of me."
Guiche did not like the fact that he was now being ignored so boldly, and seeing Katie in tears made him think that Saito had done something to offend her, so without even much thought he took off his glove and slapped him across the face challenging him to a duel. Saito told him he gained nothing from fighting him, so why would he even accept a useless fight like that?
Guiche called him a cad who dared to insult a maiden and made her cry, Saito quickly mentioned that he did no such thing, and if she was crying it was because he offered to help her improve her cooking skills. "How can a mere commoner even hope to match the skills of a noble, you made her cry by promising something you could clearly never do, but you are greedy name your terms for this duel, if I win you will tell everyone what you really are, and no more of these lies, and what do you want if you win?"
Saito glared at him and as soon as he realized this entire misunderstanding was caused by Guiche, he knew what he wanted, "Alright, if I win you have to tell Montmorency here and all the girls present why is it that you go around shamelessly flirting with all of them. No more keeping it hidden, you have to be honest about your intentions after our fight and for the rest of your life. Do you accept? Or are you too scared of what will happen when you lose!"
A boy holding an owl as his familiar looked at these two glared at each other, and could not help but to feel that this boring party was about to get a lot more interesting. Louise walked over to Saito and asked him if he was going to truly fight him even though he had no wand at all, did he want her help? Saito told her that against someone like Guiche using an actual wand or staff would be overkill.
He walked towards the place where Guiche was, he clearly stepped away from the party enough that their fight would not cause harm to the others. Saito realized that he at least is conscience that their fight could cause unintended harm to those close to them. Guiche took out a rose of all things and with a single movement it dropped a single petal, from it came something that was kind of cute in Saito's view, it was a female-shaped golem apparently made of brass.
"I am called Guiche the Bronze, and a Bronze Golem is what you will be fighting, but I am gracious and do not want you to make an excuse that you only lost because you had nothing to defend yourself with, so I shall provide you with something that you can use for this fight." Guiche moved his rose again and another petal fell down this time a bronze sword came from the ground where the petal landed, he quickly grabbed it and tossed it to Saito like it was nothing that important. Saito noticed the way the sword was built and decided to do something to shock Guiche and everyone present, he placed the sword on the ground, stabbing it into the soil making it stand and he began to walk towards the bronze golem while enhancing himself with several spells.
Without a single word, he punched the golem in such a severe and brutal fashion it made the people watching gasp at how he managed to hit it in such a fashion, causing it to break down into pieces. With a movement of his hand, he transfigured those pieces into something they had never seen before and made something that looked to be a dagger from it, as he held it he began to look at Guiche, "Your little doll is not going to cut it, I think you need to summon a lot more if you are going to be serious about this fight, for I am not holding back, not anymore."
Guiche quickly made six other bronze golems appear, and they all looked identical to each other, Saito then destroyed one only using the dagger and then Saito focused his power and caused the very elements to become visible and started to change the elemental power present until four incredibly menacing golems appeared from them. This made it clear that he was not joking that he could use magic, and made them wonder if Saito could use all these elements then Louise more than likely could also use them, which made them all realize that they should have never mocked her or ridiculed her.
Saito ordered his four golems to eliminate the enemy golems, they each fought against one of the bronze golems tearing them into pieces and what was more frightening to Guiche, these golems began to devour the remains of his. The last golem charged directly at Saito probably thinking he was defenseless but as the bronze golem got close enough, Saito moved the dagger and with a fierce tone simply said one thing, Void Lightning. As the spell was called out, the last golem was hit by what seemed to be an incredible lasting bolt blast and it crumbled into nothing but dust.
Saito calmly picked up the sword that Guiche had made and calmly walked over to him before Guiche could even react, he was already standing by him holding the sword's edge against Guiche's throat, asking if he was willing to accept his defeat, or did he have to hurt him. Guiche immediately made the smart decision and put his arms in the air screaming that he gave up, that he lost. Saito placed the sword right next to Guiche who was on his knees practically in tears, not believing what had just happened to him.
Saito walked into the middle of the place where they fought and quickly looked at the students surrounding them and had watched the entire fight, "It is my understanding that soon I will be given a position in this academy, as one of your new instructors, as such given that I have you attention I would like to give you a brief lecture on the limits of a mage, magic is limitless, the only limit a mage has is their understanding and imagination."
He quickly made a fireball appear in the air, and with quick motions, he made something that they never expected, the fire condensed and little by little the ball of fire became solid and when he was done the fireball was now on the ground and it was literally causing the plants to die where it landed, but the thing is, it was not because it burned them, but rather it was as if the plants had frozen when the ball touched the grass. "Given enough talent and understanding, a mage can turn a simple fire and cause it to burn in such a way that it actually becomes cold enough to freeze, this thing I hold in my hand is the frozen fireball, and if you touch it, you will feel how it is cold enough to freeze water."
Saito looked at the utter shock of the people around them and then at Guiche, "Guiche here used the earth element to produce metal to make his little dolls, but I used was not the earth element, I made my golems from the elements themselves, by manipulating them. My fire golem here is not enchanted to have a flame attribute, or it can use flames, this golem much like this frozen fireball is made out of pure magical fire. Now you understand the only limit of a mage is the mage, if the mage can imagine it and is knowledgable and skilled enough, there are no limits to what that person can accomplish, just that you know I can use more than just the basic five elements, so don't pick a fight with me, unless you want to learn the same lesson Mr. Guiche here learned today."
He began to walk away trying to get to where Louise was waiving at him when he suddenly felt dizzy for some strange reason, it was out of nowhere when he felt weaker, as as he walked towards Louise he collapsed on the ground, Louise went to see what was wrong, the sheer look of worry and concern was easy for everyone to see, as she asked someone to get people from the clinic to come and help Saito. Saito was out like a light, and the healer told Louise that at worst Saito was experiencing something like a total mental shutdown, which only happens when mages actually use up all their magical power, the thing that she did notice is that the rune on his hand had been glowing ever since he started to fight and it was glowing still by the time the clinic arrived with a stretcher.
She had no alternative but to have the healer get some rather expensive mana potions and other potions to help Saito recover, it took him three days to finally show signs that he was going to be alright, but Louise had not moved from his side the entire time, making sure she was there to take care of him and see if she could do anything for him. One of the maids of the academy actually had been there to help Louise deal with some of the things she needed to do, but couldn't do by herself.
