In the Royal Archives, Sonia was scrummaging through all the scrolls she could, seeing all the details regarding the lives of her parents and their friends. She wasn't alone, Manik was nearby, leaning against the wall in a state of boredom.
"How much longer is this going to take?" Manik asked.
"Oh be patient, will ya?" Sonia said.
"You're one to talk," Manik said. "Seriously, I don't want to keep Melody waiting."
"Hey don't let me keep you from spending time with your cute and precious girlfriend," Sonia teased.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Manik instinctively shouted. "She's just hanging out with me."
"Yeah, all alone," Sonia cheekily stated.
"I bet you and Skye hang out alone together," Manik said. "Does that make him your boyfriend?"
"Hey I wouldn't be against the idea," Sonai said, grabbing some scrolls.
"Seriously? Skye? He's a nerd though," Manik said.
"You say 'nerd' like it's a bad thing," Sonia said. "Plus aren't you a gamer? That's nerdy."
"Nerdy how? It's just entertainment," Manik said.
"There's also those comic books you got, both from this world and from Earth," Sonia said. "That's also considered nerdy."
"You're a pain," Manik said.
"Hey I'm not knocking you for your hobby, I think the games and comics are good too, especially the games," Sonia said. "Imagine getting sucked into a video game, that'd be fun, right?"
"Depends on the game," Manik said. "Anyway, what are you even looking for exactly?"
"More stuff on our dad and his adventures," Sonia said. "He, mom, Uncle Tails, Aunt Cream, Uncle Knuckles and Aunt Rouge told me some fun stories recently. Like when they first went to Earth, met the Hazuki Family, then fought Chaos at Station Square. Mom even told me about the time she went to a beach in Japan and made dad a seashell bracelet."
"Is that why you brought me a seashell?" Manik asked.
"Well I wanted to bring you one anyway," Sonia said. "That's how mom told me the story."
"Still, you mentioned Chaos and Station Square," Manik said. "I don't think mom's told me that story. Not in full detail."
"She probably archived it, though it's mostly from her point of view so it's not totally accurate, but it gives me ideas of what to ask my parents," Sonia said. "Like that archive I read the other day about time travel and stuff."
"Time travel has always seemed kind of a stretch to me," Manik said.
"Uh...Manik, mom and dad are friends with time travelers," Sonia said. "Remember Silver? He's from the future."
"I thought he was from another dimension?" Manik said.
"No, that's Blaze," Sonia said. "She's from the Sol Dimension, dad's been there a few times."
"That seems weirdly confusing too," Manik said.
"Oh come on, bro. You know different Zones and Dimensions exist," Sonia said. "You've met Silver and Blaze before, they do visit this world from time to time."
"I don't really talk to Princess Blaze much, she's not very friendly," Manik said. "Silver's kind of a weirdo."
"Uh, he seems pretty normal to me," Sonia said. "Gotta say, he's kind of cute for his age."
"Seriously?" Manik asked.
"Oh like you've never found Aunt Rouge attractive," Sonia said. "Don't let Melody find out."
"I really couldn't care less if she..." Manik shook his head. "I mean...I never said I...ugh, you're such a brat!"
Sonia had finished rounding up the scrolls. "Sweet, I got more to read, and then later ask my dad about."
"I'm surprised you're reading scrolls, I thought you hated reading?" Manik asked.
"If it's a book, yeah, I just can't sit down, not my thing," Sonia said. "Scrolls about how awesome dad is, that catches my attention."
"What did he even tell you about that mission regarding Chaos?" Manik asked.
"Mission? I don't think dad was on a mission, he just went there because he wanted to," Sonia said. "He heard that Doctor Eggman was going to Station Square to steal the Master Emerald after Angel Island got transported to Earth. Then he along with mom, Uncle Tails and Uncle Knuckles went after him. Then he saw other Mobians that got stranded, like Big the Cat and Aunt Sally. Then mom met Spider-Man, while dad met Rainbow Dash and The Human Torch. Then they teamed up with the Bryant Siblings to drive back Eggman. Then in the end, dad turned into Super Sonic and defeated Chaos. All was well."
"Well that lines up mostly with what my mother said.," Manik said. "To think that's where she reunited with our father and his friends."
She also got to meet Spider-Man," Sonia said.
"Yes, she mentioned that he was quite rude to her," Manik said.
"Pfft, Spider-Man's really nice, he's come to my birthday party before, it's not easy because he's on Earth, but he still made the effort," Sonia said. "It sounded more like Aunt Sally just got on his nerves a bit. She can be a bit bossy sometimes."
"She's a Queen, she's allowed to be bossy," Manik said. "You should watch your tone when discussing your Queen."
"Uh, maybe you forgot, but Sally doesn't hold her Queen title over me," Sonia said. "I'm precious to her after all."
"And you would say such a thing about her?" Manik asked.
"Hey you disrespect my mom all the time and she still loves you regardless," Sonia pointed out. "I'm not trying to diss Aunt Sally, I love her like a third parent. But she can be a bit bossy at times, I've seen it myself. I get it, she's Queen and she's very much by the book. She takes charge and I respect that about her because of how badass she is about it. But, she needs to chill out sometimes. Whenever she babysits me, she freaks out if she loses track of me. I know it means she cares about my wellbeing, and I appreciate that she does, but it's not good for her to stress out."
"Well Sonia, while I will admit that your response is surprisingly enlightening considering both your age and your chaotic personality, you clearly don't understand Royalty," Manik said. "Being Queen means everyone relies on you, it's not an easy task and it's understandable that my mom tends to get a bit bossy."
"Well maybe she needs a vacation," Sonia said.
"She can't just leave the throne for an extended period of time, who's gonna rule the planet?" Manik asked.
"I don't know, maybe Antoine can do it," Sonia said.
"Antoine is good with a sword, not with a throne," Manik said.
"My point stands, Sally needs to find a way to be happy, she does too much on her own," Sonia said.
"Well considering our father left her for your mother, that kind of explains why," Manik said.
"Again with the shade thrown at my mom," Sonia said. "One day she's going to do something really nice for you and you're going to feel so crummy about all the things you've said. Actually, she already does nice things for you. All those birthday parties? My mom is the one who bakes your cake. Every single birthday, she bakes a cake for you."
"No way, those cakes are high quality, my mother said so," Manik said.
"Because my mom makes them, and Aunt Sally knows how much of a great baker my mom is," Sonia said. "Probably too well since Aunt Sally did gain weight for a bit."
"I also blame Vanilla for that," Manik said.
"Geez, you're so angsty," Sonia said.
"Just tell me you're done in here," Manik said.
"Yeah, I'm done," Sonia said, holding up the scrolls. "Time to see what Aunt Sally had to say about Chaos before moving on to the incident with Shadow and Space Colony ARK."
"Mother told me about that too," Manik said. "It was one of the most important missions she had on Earth."
"I'm gonna ask my parents about it later," Sonia said.
"You have a third one, which is that?" Manik asked.
"Something about Metal Sonic," Sonia said. "I was hoping it was the part where dad first met mom but I'm not sure if Aunt Sally has any documentation of that."
"Where did he meet Amy Rose?" Manik asked.
"Little Planet," Sonia said.
"What's Little Planet?" Manik asked.
"You know, that big hunk of rock that circles Mobius," Sonia said. "Mom and dad got married there too."
"They got married on something that's basically our moon?" Manik asked. "How strange."
"It's a whole planet with a civilization," Sonia said. "One day, I'm gonna explore every bit of that world."
"Have fun with that," Manik said. "Let's get you back to my room, I don't want to keep Melody waiting."
"Sure, sure..." Sonia said. "So if you two start making out-"
"Don't make me punch you," Manik warned.
"You would hit a little girl?" Sonia teased. "Scandalous!"
"I swear I hate you," Manik said.
"Sure you do..." Sonia teased.
Back outside of Mobotropolis, Bunnie and Antoine were still scouting the area, finding nothing of importance. While this should be a good thing, it also had them worried that a surprise could leap out at any moment.
"Everything seems perfectly clear," Antoine said. "No robots in sight."
"Wonder if anyone else has seen anything by now?" Bunnie said.
"If they did, wouldn't they have called?" Antoine asked.
"Maybe, but it can't hurt to check," Bunnie said, grabbing her radio. "Besides, you know how excited Tangle gets, she probably got into a fight and forgot to tell anyone."
"She is very excitable," Antoine said.
Bunnie radioed the duo south of her, "Tangle? Whisper? Y'all there?"
"Yes, Bunnie?" Whisper replied.
"Hey sugar, how's it going on yer end?" Bunnie asked.
"It is clear, no sign of any danger," Whisper said.
"Is that a Badnik!?" Tangle shouted, using her tail to whack a tree. "No...it's just a regular tree. Unless...there's a Badnik in the trees!"
Whisper groaned in annoyance, "Aside from Tangle's worries, there is no danger."
"Sounds like you got yer hands full," Bunnie said. "But no robots or badniks is a good thing. That means no danger."
"None yet," Whisper said. "You never know what could be lurking."
"I'm fully aware," Bunnie said. "Ah say we radio Sally and-"
Suddenly some metal clanking was heard, Antoine immediately pulling out his sword, "Bunnie, zere seems to be troubles!"
"Oh boy. Gotta go Whisper," Bunnie said, placing the radio away.
"Wait, Bunnie!" Whisper called, to no avail. "Not good."
"What's wrong?" Tangle asked.
"Bunnie and Antoine may be in danger, we must rendezvous with them, and fast," Whisper said, making a dash.
"Wait up!" Tangle said, following her friend.
On the other side, several robots emerged, from Egg Pawns, to Egg Gunners to Egg Spears, all of them surrounding the duo of Antoine and Bunnie, the coyote holding his sword out while the rabbit girl aimed her arm cannon.
"Y'all don't want to mess with us!" Bunnie warned.
The robots all lunged in to attack, Bunnie blasting a couple away with ease and kicking a third back against a tree.
Antoine used his sword to slice a few in half. One tried blasting him with a gun but Antoine was quick to disarm it and use the blaster against the other robots.
"Great shot, hon," Bunnie said, blasting a few.
"I learn from seeing zee best," Antoine complimented, taking down another.
"Come on, that the best y'all got!?" Bunnie asked, blasting a few.
As the two fought, some Laser Flappers appeared overhead, aiming their sights on Bunnie and ready to fire.
"Bunnie! Behind you!" Antoine called.
The girl quickly turned around, just in time for Sonic to dash in and take the flyers down in a heartbeat. He then set his focus on all the other robots and blitzed them, destroying them instantly.
"Wow...zat was fast," Antoine said. "Of course that is merely stating the obvious."
Sonic was quick to ensure there was no immediate danger left before focusing on the couple. "Either of you hurt?"
"I am fine," Antoine said.
"Same here," Bunnie said. "Thanks Sugarhog, you really helped me out there."
"Eh, I'm pretty sure you could have taken them out, no way these scrap heaps could stand a chance against you," Sonic said.
"Well ah still appreciate you looking out for me and mah Antoine," Bunnie said.
"Oui, I appreciate you coming to zee aid of my wife," Antoine said.
"What are friends for?" Sonic said. "So I take it that it's only you two here?"
"Yeah, we split into groups to patrol Mobotropolis," Bunnie said. "Tangle and Whisper should be on the other side. Mighty and Ray are around, as are the Chaotix."
"And our 'Leader'," Antoine used quotation marks for emphasis. "Went with Tails, Amy and Mina to patrol the skies."
"By leader you mean Lanolin, right?" Sonic asked. "I take it this was her plan."
"Partially," Bunnie said.
"Her plans usually involve taking ideas Bunnie and I came up with and putting a little spin on it to call it her own," Antoine said.
"Come on, you make it seem like it happens all the time," Bunnie said. "Look, you had yer input, she had hers, what matters is that it's a team effort."
"Yes, of course," Antoine said. "It matters little at zee moment. Sonic, any chance you found out anything about Robotnik and his plans?"
"I overheard some instructions he was giving out," Sonic said. "Right now he's just raising chaos to generate confusion for Sally. He plans to use that as a distraction to ultimately bring her down."
"Is that all?" Antoine asked. "Seems like he needs his robots to do just zat, and we're clearly too strong for them."
"It sounds simple but knowing Robotnik, he has an even bigger trap planned," Bunnie said.
"Well he definitely has one for my son," Sonic said. "Eggman's willing to use him as a hostage just to get to Sally, and me."
"There ain't no way I'm letting that happen!" Bunnie said, readying her cannon. "Not while Manik's got his aunt Bunnie around."
"I will not let any harm come to Manik either," Antoine said, aiming his sword up. "I will offer protection to my protoge."
"Never thought you'd be a mentor to one of my kids, Antoine," Sonic said.
"You are finding this hard to believe?" Antoine asked. "Do you not think I am capable of being a mentor?"
"Never said that, just that it's not something I would have imagined," Sonic said. "It's great though, glad my son has people he can rely on here."
"It's our pleasure," Bunnie said. "Let's go and meet up with Sally."
"You go on ahead, I'm gonna keep searching and making sure that there aren't any more robots," Sonic said, immediately dashing off, nearly knocking the couple over.
"Sure am glad Sonic's here to help," Bunnie said. "Not sure if ah wanna just let him do all the work though, it seems unfair to him."
"Unfair how? He loves destroying Robotnik's machines," Antoine said.
"Still, I'm gonna go fly around fer a bit," Bunnie said, taking off. "Get back to the castle fer now and update Sally on what Sonic said."
"If zat is what you want, mon cherrie," Antoine said, taking his leave. "Please be careful out there, do not do more zan you can handle."
"You worry too much, hon," Bunnie said and flew off.
"Such is zee duty of a husband," Antoine said, heading back to the castle. "Still, Robotnik's plan does not sit right with me. Is there more to it zan just...causing great havoc? Especially with that fiend Nagus by his side, and those two fuels, Sleet and Dingo. It would be better to consult with Queen Sally rather zan ponder to myself."
Antoine made haste into the castle.
Elsewhere, Tangle and Whisper had spotted some Egg Fighters and were busy destroying them. Tangle whacked a bunch away with her tail while Whisper blasted them with her Variable Wispon's Laser Mode.
"Bring it on, I can beat you up all day!" Tangle said, wrapping a robot with her tail and using it to bash the other robots.
"Do not get carried away, our job is to defend," Whisper reminded.
"It's just some of Eggman's weaker robots," Tangle said, tossing away the robot she had.
"Even the weakest enemy can overwhelm in numbers," Whisper said, activating Rocket Mode and blasting a bunch of robots. "Besides, we need to meet up with Antoine and Bunnie, they might be in danger."
"Yeah, you got a point," Tangle said, knocking a bunch away. "Still, the more robots we destroy, the happier Queen Sally will be."
Suddenly a blue wind passed by, and all the remaining robots were instantly destroyed. Dusting his hands, Sonic strolled over to the duo. "Hey Tangle, Whisper. Sorry if I stole your thunder."
"It's fine, we had plenty of action," Tangle said.
"We appreciate your help," Whisper said. "Did you happen to pass by Bunnie and Antoine?"
"Yeah, they're fine," Sonic said. "I told them to head back to the castle. Turns out Eggman's big plan is to cause a commotion loud enough to wear out Sally so he can strike while she's defenseless."
"Huh, that's simple," Tangle said.
"Yeah, which means there's more to it than we know," Sonic said. "We know the basis of his plan at least. Personally, I'm all for turning that against him though, make him think he's winning, then go in for the final blow."
"Sounds like a solid plan," Tangle said.
"What is your current move Sonic?" Whisper asked. "Will you return to the castle as well?"
"After I scan the area one more time, really make sure no robots are left," Sonic said, turning away. "Get back to the castle for now."
Without another word, Sonic sped off, leaving the two to themselves for the moment.
"So, to the castle then?" Tangle asked.
"Yes, let us go," Whisper said, leading the way back to Castle Acorn.
Near the edge of town, Tails had landed his Tornado to allow Lanolin to scout the area ahead, the sheep girl keeping a close eye on things.
"No sign of Doctor Robotnik or his underlings," Lanolin commented.
"I doubt there's any left," Amy said. "All that smoke we saw earlier was from destroyed robots. Sonic's probably destroyed them all by now, with the help of the other Freedom Fighters."
"Yes, Sonic really knows how to get things done," Lanolin said.
"Was there ever any doubt?" Amy asked. "There isn't much that Sonic can't do, trashing Eggman's robots is something he can do in his sleep."
"Well it's not just the robots we're worried about," Lanolin said. "Remember what Queen Sally said, Nagus is around too. As are Sleet and Dingo."
"If Sonic finds them, he'll stomp them too," Amy said. "Nagus might be trouble but Sleet and Dingo...I bet even Big could take them easy. And he's a pacifist by nature. Well a lot of us are, but Big even more so. I miss Big, I should take time to see him."
"Well he is a founding member of Team Rose after all," Lanolin said. "Though if he's a pacifist like you say he is, I'm surprised you'd recruit him."
"Big's part of Team Rose because he's my friend, and we had a common interest at the time," Amy said. "Also, we're not an official team like you and The Diamond Cutters. Team Rose is just a nickname. I mentioned it as a joke, then Peter started calling us that and well it kind of stuck."
"You mean Peter Parker, right?" Lanolin asked.
"Of course, you've met Peter a few times," Amy said. "If Team Rose were an official team, he'd be a member."
"He'd probably like you more than The Avengers," Tails joked as he checked his Miles Electronic, with Mina looking over his shoulder.
"Peter would say that, he's my buddy after all," Amy said.
"Yes, Queen Sally often talks about how close you two are," Lanolin said.
"Thinking about it, I can probably get Peter," Amy said. "We have access to those Portal Rings after all, going to Earth wouldn't be any trouble at all. Plus it's been a long time since I've seen Peter, and I really miss him."
"Let's try to focus on what's nearby first," Lanolin said. "Besides, you know Queen Sally isn't too fond of Peter Parker."
"Yeah, they don't get along so well, which is a shame since out of everyone, Peter would understand Sally's struggles," Amy said. "He always says that With Great Power comes Great Responsibility."
"No one demonstrates that better than Sally," Tails said. "At least on this planet."
"What about Sonic?" Mina asked.
"Well, Sonic's hard to say," Tails said. "He doesn't consider his actions heroic, he just does the right thing. Not out of responsibility, just out of his own feelings."
"Honestly, that has me worried," Lanolin said. "It makes him seem unreliable."
"Remember what Sally says, Sonic isn't obligated to help Mobotropolis," Mina said. "If he one day decides he doesn't want to, well we're prepared for that."
"That won't happen though, Sonic always helps his friends," Amy said.
"Even Queen Sally?" Lanolin asked.
"Of course, that's why he's here," Amy said. "Sonic came by not even knowing what was happening, he just wanted to see Sally."
"Sonic's always been a sweetheart," Mina said.
"Well to be honest, he did seem kind of awkward being here," Lanolin said. "Which always struck me as odd. If Sonic and Sally had a peaceful divorce, why is he so awkward around her?"
"What are you getting at?" Amy asked.
"Uh, excuse me," Tails interrupted. "Remember why we're here. This isn't about Sonic and Sally, this is about the safety of Mobotropolis."
"Yeah, I suppose so," Lanolin said. "Still no sign of any enemies. Maybe Sonic really did wipe them all out."
"To no surprise," Amy said.
Lanolin grabbed her radio, "Bunnie Rabbot, come in."
"Isn't her name technically Bunnie D'Coolett now?" Tails asked.
"Semantics," Lanolin said, trying the radio. "Bunnie Rabbot!"
"That you Lanolin?" Bunnie asked.
"Yeah, it's me," Lanolin said. "How are things at your end?"
"Antoine and I ran into some trouble, but nothing we couldn't handle," Bunnie said. "Plus Sonic came by to help. Antoine's returning to the castle while Sonic takes down the other robots. I'm doing the same."
"Looks like Sonic has quite the head start on all of us," Amy said.
"Alright, good luck out there," Lanolin said, then checked another call. "Tangle, Whisper!"
"Sup bud?" Tangle said over the line.
"Tangle, we're on a mission, be professional," Lanolin scolded.
"Hehe, you sound just like Sally sometimes," Tangle said.
"Well she is my mentor, and your Queen," Lanolin reminded.
"Wow, so grumpy," Tangle teased.
"Give me that," Whisper was heard saying before speaking into the radio. "You called Lanolin?"
"Yeah, how are things on your end?" Lanolin asked.
"Quite well, Sonic just stopped by and helped us destroy a fleet of Eggman's robots," Whisper said.
"That's two for two," Amy boasted, much to Lanolin's annoyance.
"Where is he now?" Lanolin asked.
"He went to continue checking the area, for now Tangle and I are retreating into the castle," Whisper said.
"Alright then, we'll talk later," Lanolin said, making another call. "Mighty? Ray?"
"Yeah, who's this?" Mighty asked.
"...It's Lanolin!" the sheep girl called. "The leader of The Freedom Fighters!"
"I thought Sally was?" Mighty asked.
"Sally is the leader of Mobius, and appointed me the leader of The Freedom Fighters," Lanolin reminded.
"Right...so what is it?" Mighty asked.
"I need a Sit Rep from you," Lanolin said.
"A sit what?" Mighty asked.
"A report!" Lanolin shouted. "Any of Robotnik's machines?"
"Uh yeah, Ray and I just encountered some badniks, but we stomped them," Mighty said. "I think Sonic passed through here earlier though, nothing but scrap metal."
"Sonic's going to handle everything else, get back to the castle for now," Lanolin said.
"Really? That's great," Mighty said. "Hey Ray! We're done!"
"Okay!" Ray's voice was heard saying.
"Dumbasses," Lanolin muttered before changing the station. "Team Chaotix, do you read?"
"You got Vector," the leader said.
"Hey Boss, how's it going on your end?" Lanolin asked.
"Took down some enemy robots, but most of them seemed to have been trashed already," Vector said.
"Likely Sonic," Lanolin said. "Mind heading back to the castle? I think Sonic's going to handle the rest, with Bunnie's help."
"If that's what you want," Vector said. "Also, we may have found a couple of clues about what Eggman could be planning."
"That's great Boss, catch you back at the castle," Lanolin said, placing her radio away.
"All these years and you still call him 'Boss'," Amy said.
"Well Vector helped me get my start back when I interned with The Chaotix," Lanolin said. "I'm not much of a detective, but I made some use of myself. Even more once Queen Sally saw what I could offer."
"It's great that you still respect those who gave you your chance," Tails said.
"Well yeah, who wouldn't?" Lanolin said. "Sally helped me be who I am today, hence my loyalty to her. Vector helped me get my start, hence my respect for him, Espio and Charmy."
"Well...good on you," Amy said.
"Yeah, sure," Lanolin replied. "Maybe we should all head back to the castle, report what we can to Queen Sally."
"Sure, just give me a second," Tails said, opening the hatch to his X-Tornado and flying up to check inside. "I thought I heard some humming before. Might be nothing but better safe that sorry. This will only take a minute or two."
"I can wait," Mina said, glancing at Tails from behind as he was bent over, a look of pure desire in her eyes. "Take all the time you need."
Both Amy and Lanolin glanced in curiosity, while neither really pieced anything together, both still felt like something was off.
"Why do I feel the urge to whack Mina with my hammer?" Amy subconsciously summoned her weapon.
"Mina acts stranger each day," Lanolin noted.
On Angel Island, Lara is seen sitting in front of the Master Emerald, taking in the sight of the gem. Knuckles, who was right beside her, got his daughter's attention.
"You're still here? Weren't you gonna go exploring with your mom?" Knuckles asked.
"I was but she saw something shiny and took off," Lara said. "Mom gets too easily distracted."
"Sounds like her," Knuckles said. "If you're feeling bored, you can go out and explore."
"I want to but, I also kind of want to hang out with Skye and Sonia again," Lara said. "That story the other day with Chaos was so neat, I really want to hear more of your adventures."
"Pfft, I can tell you my adventures," Knuckles said. "We don't even need Sonic for that."
"No offense dad, but you tend to exaggerate," Lara said.
"Huh? No I don't," Knuckles said.
"You try too hard to sound cool, which is weird because you never do that with anyone else," Lara said.
Knuckles sheepishly rubbed his head. "Well..."
"Wait, it's not for my sake is it?" Lara asked. "Dad, I already think you're amazing, you don't need to act cool. You just are."
Knuckles chuckled to himself, "This is why you're my favorite daughter."
"I'm your only daughter," Lara said.
"Makes it easy for you be by favorite," Knuckles said, bringing the girl in for a side hug. "If you want to see Skye and Sonia, I think we can arrange something. I'll go and find Tails since he's usually in one place, he can get Sonic and bring everyone here this time."
"They can see what it's like to be guardians then," Lara said.
"Well, Amy knows what it's like," Knuckles said. "She's the only one I've trusted to watch the Master Emerald in my place."
"Really? Why Amy?" Lara asked.
"She's tough, and she's just reliable," Knuckles said. "Amy is one of the only people I know I can turn to if I need help, and she's there to be a helping hand."
"Sounds like you really admire her," Lara said.
"Well, I grew up alone, so Amy kind of felt like a sister to me at times," Knuckles said. "I don't use that word often either, I consider very few to be family after all. But I felt a special connection with her."
"Think she's a descendant of Echidnas?" Lara asked.
"That'd be a surprise," Knuckles said. "I doubt it, Pachacamac's tribe likely had some survivors after what Chaos did, my existence being proof, but I doubt any of them would have bred with a hedgehog."
"Maybe she's from the Nocturnus clan," Lara said.
"That'd be something, but so long as she's not from the Dark Legion, I'm good," Knuckles said, then got up. "I'll go see Tails then."
Knuckles flew off Angel Island, leaving Lara to herself as she turned to the emerald. "So...Tikal. What do you make of this?"
Seconds later, Tikal emerged from the Master Emerald, sitting beside Lara. "Like Knuckles said, I don't think my father's tribe would have had a hedgehog descendant. Amy Rose is just special to Knuckles. A bond stronger than blood."
"Sounds cheesy," Lara said.
"Maybe, but when you care for someone enough, it can happen," Tikal said.
"Well after that incident with Perfect Chaos, I can believe that," Lara said. "Imagine being there and seeing it all. I don't suppose you can do that for me, use that magic you used for my father and his friends."
"I admire your eagerness to learn about your past, it really can shape the future for you," Tikal said. "So long as you have all the right facts. Speaking with more than one person is a smart choice on your behalf, and I trust that Sonic, Tails and Amy Rose will help you learn just as much as your father would teach you."
"So...can I see the past?" Lara asked.
"Later dear, I'd prefer if both your parents were okay with it," Tikal said.
"Fine...so wanna hear about some stuff I discovered the other day?" Lara asked.
"I'd be happy to," Tikal said, ready to listen to Lara's story.
Meanwhile with the villains, Eggman is overseeing everything from his egg drones, or at least what's left. "Sonic's making quick work of my robots, he's even finding the well hidden ones. At this rate, I'll have to invest in more cloaking devices."
"Wouldn't it be wise for those be reserved for combat robots?" Sage asked.
"No, it won't work," Eggman said. "Sonic's good at finding things, even when they're invisible. He doesn't always act it, but he's a lot smarter than most people give him credit for."
"So since Scourge is an anti, does that mean he's dumber than people give him credit for?" Cubot asked.
"Yo I heard that!" Scourge shouted. "Lousy piss colored metal head."
"If it bothers you so much, then put that brain of yours to work!" Eggman said.
"Ain't you the one coming up with the plans though?" Scourge asked. "I mean, I can totally whip up a good scheme, I've done it before. Any of you'se remember the Anarchy Beryl? My super form was the bomb!"
"I seem to remember someone saying that you were tricked out of it," Nagus said. "Falling for one of Sonic's classic ruses!"
"Who told you that!? Was it Miles!?" Scourge shouted. "Or was it Fiona!? Damn skank, you welcome her into your Kingdom and then she ditches you for the same stupid Princess that made her want to leave in the first place!"
"Do you still miss her?" Orbot asked.
"I never said I did, runt!" Scourge shouted. "I'm just pointing out facts! She betrayed me! I don't like traitors! But..I am willing to forgive if she changes her mind, she just has to make it up to me in a big way."
"What way would that be!?" Alicia shouted, freaking Scourge out.
"Uh, nothing, don't worry about it babe," Scourge said.
"Do not 'babe' me!" Alicia warned, holding her whip up to Scourge.
"Hey come on, I thought we were cool now?" Scourge said. "Remember, I gave you that bundle of joy."
"And when was the last time you've seen him, huh Scourge!?" Alicia shouted.
"I'll pop by...soon," Scourge said. "When I'm able to."
Alicia grumbled in annoyance, "You're such a useless piece of crap!"
"Hey! You know I'm still technically King, right?" Scourge said. "Show a little respect."
"King of what? Your crown got revoked the moment you ended up in that zone prison," Eggman said.
"Don't remind me of that, everyone was out to annoy me, especially that annoying Rhino and that stupid Warthog with the purples shades," Scourge said. "Which is weird, because they're from Earth apparently, what were they doing in a prison like that?"
"I think Princess Sally had something to do with that," Nagus said. "Remind me, how did you break out?"
"Long story, tell ya's later if I feel like it," Scourge said.
"Speaking of Earth," Zavok said, getting everyone's attention. "Earlier doctor, you mentioned going to Earth to destroy those superheroes. Are you planning on recruiting allies from there too?"
"Well aside from Wily, I don't have that many allies on Earth," Eggman said. "But the heroes do have enemies. Some are basically thugs for hire, so recruiting them will be a cinch. Like this one guy, calls himself Shocker. He's quite the engineer, so glad he's using it for evil."
"Is he still active?" Zavok asked.
"I...don't know, actually I haven't seen much regarding the villains, I do know one of them is dead," Eggman said. "Otto Octavius, or as many call him, Doctor Octopus."
"Despite the name, he's not actually an octopus," Cubot said. "He just has really long, metallic limbs."
"And I'm pretty sure he's not dead, just biding his time, call it a hunch" Eggman said. "In any case, we're just keeping things as is for now. This world is first."
"Yeah, sure, so when do we start trashing those loser Freedom Fighters?" Scourge asked.
"Soon, I'm not ready to rush in just yet," Eggman said. "Personally, I wanna make them wait."
"Wait? For what!?" Scourge asked. "Why we gotta wait? We could be trashing them losers right now!"
"It's all about patience my friend," Eggman said. "With Sonic around, no doubt Princess Sally is expecting me to go out there and try to stomp him. But maybe I don't feel like doing that right now. Maybe I want to hold off a bit. Why should I do things according to her schedule?"
"Wait, so you gathered us all here...to wait?" Scourge asked. "Do I look like the waiting type? I want to go in now!"
"And that attitude will be your downfall, you're too eager to do things," Eggman said. "You don't put a lot of thought into your plans, you just do whatever you want and hope it works."
"I can totally plan! I'm no fool!" Scourge said. "And don't you dare bring up the Anarchy Beryl shit again! That ain't gonna happen to me twice!"
"Boy this guy's really insecure about his failures," Cubot said.
"Hey, say that again metal head!" Scourge warned. "I'll turn you into scrap metal right now!"
"Enough!" Zavok said. "We admire your eagerness Scourge, but it would be in our best interest to playthings to our advantage."
"He's right Scourgey, maybe you should take a deep breath and count to ten, that will make you feel allllll better," Rosy said. "Just think about how fun it will be to finally have the chance to destroy our enemies! To crush their bones into dust! To make them suffer and beg for their lives before we make them go 'bye-bye'!"
Rosy began laughing maniacally, holding her hammer close to her and relishing in her thoughts while Scourge awkwardly stepped away from her. "Freak."
"She has the right idea," Zavok said. "Waiting for your moment always pays off my green friend, it is then we can unleash true chaos upon the world."
"Honestly, I'm with Scourge here," came the voice of Surge, everyone's eyes on the Tenrec. "I'm not one for waiting, I'm ready to go in now."
"This dame's speaking my language," Scourge said.
"Come on Doc, at least let me and Scourge go in now," Surge said. "Those losers are clearly ready for a fight, and I'm itching to go and fuck shit up."
"Such uncouth vocabulary," Nagus said.
"Who the hell asked you?" Surge said, then focused back on Eggman. "So, what do ya say?"
"You wanna know what I say?" Eggman asked. "Stick to the plan!"
"Ugh, you suck," Surge said.
"I second that notion," Scourge said.
"Tough! This plan has to go well, if you go in and cause trouble too soon, it can throw a wrench in everything!" Eggman said. "You two are staying put!"
"Aw, what a shame, I was just about ready to join them too," Rosy said.
"What? To raise hell, or because you want Scourge all to yourself you little loon?" Surge taunted.
"Aw, you're such a firecracker, aren't you?" Rosy said, then pulled out her hammer. "But I'd watch what you say unless you want to-"
"No!" Kit shouted, lifting Rosy up in a sphere of water. "I will not allow you to threaten Surge!"
Rosy struggled a bit, trying to keep from downing but Kit's water had her trapped. Fortunately Zavok was quick to step in. "You fool! She's on our side!"
"Quiet, or you're next!" Kit warned.
"How dare you speak to me that way!" Zavok said, about to strike.
"Hey wait!" Surge instructed, then turned to her young sidekick. "Kit! Let her go!"
Kit glanced at Surge, reluctantly freeing Rosy from the water, "If that's what you want."
Rosy started coughing, the girl looking a little freaked out by the whole ordeal as she glared a hole through Kit, "I'll make you regret that." She summoned her hammer, fully prepared to bash Kit's skull in when Alicia stood before her. "You're in my way."
"That's enough, no more infighting," Alicia said. "Surge, keep your little lunatic under control."
"Same to you, keep that spikey haired weirdo on a leash," Surge instructed.
"I'm about to put all of you on a leash!" Eggman said. "Final warning to Scourge and Surge. Don't do anything stupid!"
"Fine, whatever," Scourge said.
"We'll play nice," Surge mockingly reassured.
"Ever notice that their names kind of rhyme?" Cubot asked.
"Who the hell asked ya?" Scourge said.
"Good," Eggman focused back on his machine. "Sage, are there any other cameras you can access?"
"I'm afraid this is all there is," Sage said.
"Anything in the castle you can hack?" Eggman asked.
"If I do, I will run the risk of alerting their defenses, especially the Holo-Lynx," Sage said.
"That might be troubling, alright we'll play the waiting game for now," Eggman said. "Soon though, this world will be mine."
"And I will come one step closer to claiming the Castle of Acorn," Nagus said.
"Plus Dingo and I will be one step closer to great riches," Sleet said.
"And the world will once again feel our havoc," Zavok said.
While the villains were talking among themselves, Surge was quick to sneak away, and quietly invited Scourge to follow her, which he obliged, though this did not go unnoticed by Rosy.
Once the two were alone, Surge spoke up to the anti-Sonic, "You don't really wanna just stick around, do ya?"
"Hell no, I'm itching to get out there," Scourge said.
"Then let's just do it," Surge said. "Screw Eggman, if we wanna cause trouble then let's cause it."
"I want to, but if it's just the two of us, we might get outnumbered," Scourge said. "Kind of hoped to bring more guests."
"I can get Kit on board," Surge said, then took note of someone behind Scourge. "And maybe you're violent little friend there."
"Eh?" Scourge turned around to see Rosy, the girl casually waving. "Aw geez, why ya following me?"
"I thought you liked my company, you certainly liked it the other day when you invited me over one night," Rosy said.
"I was bored, that's why," Scourge said. "Plus I needed a break from Alicia. She keeps telling me about the damn kid we had together."
"What's the deal, are you dating her or not?" Surge asked.
"Sort of," Scourge said. "Like, I got back together with her a couple years back, we had a few flings and obviously, I got her pregnant. But she's just so...I don't know, kind of bossy. She really takes the mood out of the moment, ya know? It was like that when we first dated, and it's like that now."
"And what's this little nutjob's story?" Surge asked.
"She kept bugging me for a date so I gave in," Scourge said. "Then we went to bed and...well you can figure that part out."
"It was amazing," Rosy said, a blush appearing on her face. "You know how to make a girl feel special."
"Whatever," Scourge said. "Point is, things haven't been easy with either Rosy or Alicia. The only girl I actually had a fun time with was Fiona. She chose that type of lifestyle despite being from your world and she really knew how to keep up with me. Then she dumped me to go back to the Freedom Fighters."
"Sounds rough, I bet she was special to you," Surge said.
"Well, I liked having her around," Scourge said. "But those days are done."
"Shame, personally I can see the appeal to you," Surge said, stroking Scourge's chin, making Rosy feel jealous. "You got that bad boy look, the type of guy I would totally want to be with."
"Yeah, I get that," Scourge said. "Most girls in this world never had an interest in me, even when I pretended to be Sonic. They saw right through me. Fiona was interested, but like I said, that story didn't end so well."
"But I like you for who you are Scourgey!" Rosy said.
"Yeah, you mentioned that, but you ain't telling me why I gotta return that affection," Scourge said.
"Guess you're just not woman enough for him," Surge said.
"Watch it!" Rosy said, aiming her hammer.
"Scourge, how about we just go wreck shit, just the two of us," Surge said. "It doesn't have to be Mobotropolis, it can be somewhere else. Just to stretch our legs."
"I'm good with that," Scourge said.
"Wait! What about me!?" Rosy asked.
"Go back, and do not follow us," Scourge said.
"If you do, I'll tell Kit, and this time, I won't save your worthless ass," Surge said. "Lets get going Scourge."
"Right behind ya," Scourge said, following Surge.
Rosy looked on in disbelief, a look of heartbreak on her face. Angrily she grabbed her hammer and bashed the wall next to her. "I'm not giving you up that easily, my dear sweet Scourge!"
Back in the castle, everyone had gathered, with the exception of Sonic and Bunnie, the two coming in a bit later.
"Sorry we took so long," Bunnie said. "We just wanted to be extra thorough."
"That's fine," Sally said. "So, Sonic, I understand you found out some information?"
"Sort of," Sonic said. "The only thing I gathered from the robots is that Eggman plans to work Sally into a panic, aiming to capitalize once she makes a mistake."
"...That's it!? That's all you found out!?" Fiona shouted. "How useless can you get!?"
"Fiona, please, be quiet," Sally said.
"Come on Sal, he didn't do shit for us!" Fiona said.
"Technically, he destroyed a bunch of Eggman's robots," Tangle said.
"Pfft, we could have done that," Fiona said.
"You also could have gotten the information you needed, but didn't," Amy said. "Don't blame Sonic for that."
"He still destroyed the robots, faster than any of us could," Bunnie said. "Also he saved mah life."
"Bunnie, appreciate it but you don't need to exaggerate for me," Sonic whispered.
"Don't worry about it," Bunnie whispered back.
Sonic shrugged it off, "That's not all. Sally, Eggman said he's likely going to target Manik."
Sally's eyes widened in worry, "Should have figured that would be on his mind. I sure am not letting my little boy be in danger."
"So what now?" Tangle asked. "We got rid of the robots but still don't know Eggman's exact plan...aside from ticking you off and trying to capture Manik."
"Let's think this over first," Sonic said. "We know Eggman, this can't be the grand scheme of his plan. I told you what I heard but this was something he was instructing his robots to do. We still don't know if that extends to Nagus, Sleet or Dingo. Plus, if Eggman really had more planned, I doubt he'd give this information to a bunch of generic robots and badniks."
"Right, those might have been just for the robots, and not even taking Sonic into account," Tails said.
"He expects me to be baited in, but I get the feeling I showed up sooner than he expected," Sonic said. "It's possible that his plan is already backfiring. Which means he'll likely strike first, and that's when we bait him in."
"Hm...that works," Sally said. "Good job Sonic, now we just need to set up some defenses."
"I can help with that," Tails said. "Would I be able to gain access to some of your security measures?"
"Of course, you're more than welcome to, Tails," Sally said.
"Need an assistant?" Mina asked.
"Uh, are you volunteering?" Tails asked. "No offense, but I don't know if this is your specialty."
"Yeah, but I like seeing you work, plus I want to do my part too," Mina said.
"If you want," Tails said.
Amy furrowed her brow, "I swear she's up to something. She better not take advantage of Tails's sweet nature, or she'll get the hammer." Seconds later, she saw Cream coming into the throne room. "Perfect." Amy waved her over, "Cream this way!"
"Oh you're back," Cream said.
"Yeah, we're already setting up a plan, thanks to some initiative from Tails," Amy said. "You got such a smart husband, don't you Cream?"
"Yes, I do, smart and cute," Cream said, this earning a blush from Tails.
"It's nothing, really," Tails bashfully said. "Just doing what I can."
"Aw, you're so modest," Mina said, wrapping Tails into a hug. "You got such a good man, Cream. Better watch out, or someone might try to snatch him away."
"You mean like you...?" Amy mentally berated.
"Oh, are we praising Tails? Because he deserves it all," Fiona said. "Tails gets shit done. Way better than Sonic."
"You really can't get me out of your mind, can you Fiona?" Sonic asked.
Fiona's eyes widened in annoyance, "The hell is that supposed to mean!? I don't give a damn about you!"
"Really? Wouldn't have been able to tell," Sonic said, smirking a bit.
"You freaking smartass," Fiona said, cracking her knuckles. "Why I outta..."
"Need I remind you that we are all on the same side?" Whisper said. "Also, Fiona, you too suggested Sonic, or is this why you wanted him here? To needlessly insult him? That's terrible to do to a comrade."
"Tch, I don't need this," Fiona turned to leave, then came across a little visitor. "Oh, it's you."
"That's right, the cute and adorable Sonia Rose," the little hedgehog girl said.
"What do you have there?" Fiona asked.
"Some scrolls, I wanna learn more about daddy's adventures from Earth," Sonia said. "And see how Aunt Sally remembered Chaos."
"Want more stories kiddo?" Sonic asked. "I think we got some time."
"Oh totally," Sonia said, dashing over. "I want to know about Space Colony ARK next."
"ARK huh?" Sonic asked. "When I first met Shadow?"
"Yeah, I wanna hear how you totally kicked his butt!" Sonia said.
"Pfft, I doubt Sonic laid a scratch on Shadow," Fiona said.
"He totally did! Shadow's a faker compared to my daddy!" Sonia said.
"Wow, she does not like Shadow, does she?" Tails asked.
"He's up there with people I dislike, right next to Luigi," Sonia said.
"Still mad about the Blue Shell?" Sally asked.
Sonia shuddered, "That damn blue shell!"
"Don't say 'damn'," Amy scolded.
"Well if you want to hear the story, I'll start us off," Sonic said.
"Hey, if you want to talk to Sonia, I can get you somewhere more comfortable," Sally said.
"That's nice, thanks Sally," Amy said.
"Well I want the best for Sonia, "Sally said.
"You're the best Sal," Sonia said.
"It's no big deal sweetheart," Sally said, taking Sonia by the hand and leading her away with Sonic and Amy by their side. "Have you seen Manik by the way?"
"Yeah, he helped me find these scrolls, but right now I think he wants to spend time with his girlfriend," Sonia said.
Amy's eyes widened, "Oh that's right! Lanolin told me Manik might be dating!"
"If you mean Melody, then no, they're not dating," Sally said.
"Yet!" Mina called, the girl with one arm wrapped around Tails. "Give it time and soon you and I will be in-laws."
"That sounds nice Mina," Sally said.
"Hey if Manik likes Melody, that's great, she seems like a good kid," Sonic said.
"One day, I'm gonna catch them kissing," a devious Sonia said.
"Let me know if you see it happen," Sally said, then called to her protégé. "You're in charge for now, Lanolin."
"Yes Queen," Lanolin said as Sally and the Hedgehog Family left. She then focused on the others. "Alright, let's get started. Sally's mentioned wanting some assistance, and given that Robotnik might have more allies, we're gonna need some suggestions."
"Ah vote Blaze," Bunnie said. "She, Marine and Julie-Su would make for good allies."
"I think Sally would like that too," Lanolin said. "Anyone else?"
"Tekno!" Rotor suggested.
"Of course..." Lanolin said. "Who else?"
"How about Sticks?" Tails asked.
"Sticks!? We can do better than Sticks, save that as a last resort," Lanolin said. "Who else?"
"Silver might be good," Antoine said. "If we can be getting into contact with him."
Lanolin rolled her eyes at the idea, "Suddenly Sticks doesn't sound like a bad idea."
"Do you have something against Silver?" Antoine asked.
"He's just not useful right now," Lanolin said, much to Antoine's annoyance. "Lets just focus on getting Blaze. Who wants to go to the Sol Dimension?"
"I can go," Cream said. "Blaze is a friend of mine. Tails can come too, he can convince Marine."
"I doubt she'd need convincing but I'd still be happy to go," Tails said.
"I'll go too, I can talk to Julie-Su," Mina said.
"Wow, that rhymed," Tails said.
"Well I am a pop star, rhyming is second nature," Mina said.
"Alright, get to it then," Lanolin said, throwing a ring portal. "Make it quick, don't want to leave something like this open too long."
"Worried about someone going in by mistake?" Mighty asked.
"No, I'm more worried about who can come out, especially that other Echidna girl," Lanolin said.
"Oh right, don't want to risk that, let's hurry," Tails said, leading Cream and Mina into the portal.
"Sally's okay with you making this choice, right?" Bunnie asked.
"Well yeah, I'm the leader when she's not here," Lanolin said. "Plus she trusts me, a lot."
"Probably too much," Antoine said to himself.
"I should leave a report for this though, just to keep Queen Sally up to check," Lanolin said, then called the Chaotix. "Hey boss, mind contacting Jewel? If she's not in the castle she should be in her store somewhere in town, you know where it is, right?"
"Yeah, we remember," Vector said. "Come on boys, let's find our old assistant."
"Can't wait to see her again," Charmy said. "I wonder if she'll notice my new hairstyle."
"You mean your helmet hair?" Vector teased.
"At least I have hair!" Charmy shouted.
"Since when?" Espio asked as they left.
"Alright, let's continue," Lanolin said.
While this was going on, Sally and the Hedgehog family were still talking.
"Well what about you Sonia? Got a boy you like?" Sally asked.
"S-sally!" Sonic scolded. "Sonia's too young to like boys."
"Not true daddy, I like a lot of boys," Sonia said.
"Would that include, Skye?" Amy asked.
Sonia bashfully rubbed her head, "Well, I like his eyes. They're cute."
"Oh right, doesn't Skye have heterochromia?" Sally asked. "One eye is blue and the other is brown."
"Yeah, he's a bit sensitive about it, but Sonia makes him feel less ashamed," Amy said.
"I think he looks fine the way he is," Sonia said.
"That's really kind of you, clearly your mother's influence," Sally said.
"I can't take all the credit, Sonic's good with that too," Amy said.
"Yeah but you're better, "Sonic said.
"Hardly a competition," Amy said.
"So daddy, tell me, how did you meet Shadow?" Sonia asked.
"Well it started weeks after Station Square," Sonic began.
Back in the past, within Japan, Amy was seen cooking a meal for the Hazuki family. "Alright, time to eat!"
One by one, Tails, Cream, Sally, Fuku and Ryo entered the kitchen, each of them taking a seat on the table.
"Smells great Amy," Tails said.
"Thanks, it's a bit of my recipe, with some special instructions from Mr. Hazuki," Amy said.
"I appreciate you cooking for us," Ryo said. "Ine-san isn't feeling too well, thank you for taking her position for the day."
"It's no big deal, I enjoy cooking," Amy said.
Ryo looked around, "Is Sonic not still here?"
"No, not yet," Amy said.
"I'm worried, he's been gone since yesterday," Sally said, taking her food.
"It's just how Sonic is, sometimes he runs and camps out, he's done it before and it turned out alright," Amy said. "He'll be back when he's hungry."
"With how much he runs, he'll need the energy," Ryo said.
"Exactly," Amy said, placing Ryo's food on the table. "Eat up."
"Thank you, I appreciate..." Ryo noticed something unlikable about his dish. "Um...Amy, can you remove the carrots?"
"Sorry, no," Amy said.
"I don't like carrots though," Ryo said.
"Too bad, your father told me to serve you carrots," Amy said.
"But..." Ryo looked down in disgust. "They're gross."
"They're not gross, they're healthy for you," Amy said. "They help with your eyesight."
"My eyes are fine though," Ryo said, then turned to the rabbit girl, "Cream, I don't suppose you want my carrots?"
"Why me?" Cream asked.
"You're a rabbit, aren't you?" Ryo asked, earning a confused reaction from Tails and Sally, along with a look of disapproval from Fuku.
"Ryo, that type of wording might be discriminatory in their world," Fuku pointed out. "Also, I'm pretty sure rabbits don't really like carrots, that's just a myth."
"Also, don't just pass your food onto Cream," Amy said. "Now eat! If not for you, then for the farmers."
"Ugh, did my father really tell you that story?" Ryo asked.
"What story?" Tails asked.
"When I was little and I didn't want to eat carrots, my father always said the same thing to me," Ryo said.
"Ryo, while you sleep in bed, farmers are working hard in the fields. They're carefully picking carrots, one by one. How could you waste them like that?"
Ryo shook his head in annoyance, "I always hated carrots and he gave me that same story."
"He just wants you to be healthy, you know your father does this out of love, not to make you suffer," Amy said.
"I know, I just wish love didn't come with this type of negative consequences," Ryo said.
"You say that now, but years from now, you're gonna appreciate what your father did for you," Amy said.
"She might have a point," Sally said. "I didn't always understand why my father did what he did, but I trust he has a good reason. You should obey your father's wishes Ryo."
"I guess I should," Ryo said. "Sorry for being so much trouble, Amy."
"It's fine, like your father, I want what's best for you too," Amy said. "You've been so kind to us the last few week that I want to make sure the boy who offered us a home is nice and healthy."
"I appreciate your company as well, it's been nice," Ryo said. "Almost like I have siblings."
"Having a big brother is nice," Cream said. "If mama were here, I think she'd like you."
"Do you miss your mom Cream?" Fuku asked.
Suddenly Cream began to look sad, this irritating Ryo, "Fuku-san, I don't think that was a good question to ask her."
"It's alright, he didn't mean anything bad," Cream said. "But, I do miss my mom, I want to go home soon."
"We'll get you home, okay sweetheart?" Sally asked, rubbing Cream's head. "Try to be brave."
"Okay, I'll try," Cream said. "It's not easy though."
"I know how you feel, I miss my dad, but we'll get home soon," Sally said.
"You're lucky, I don't even have parents to go home to," Tails said.
"Me neither, Tails and I are orphans," Amy said.
"We're sorry to hear that," Ryo said. "I thought it was bad enough losing my mother, but to have no parents. You two must be really strong to still be smiling."
"Sonic helps us through the hard times," Amy said.
"It's why we admire him so much, he doesn't have a family either, but he doesn't let it get him down," Tails said.
"That's great," Ryo said. Soon they heard a knock on the door. "Who could that be?"
"Maybe it's Sonic, I knew he'd be home soon," Amy said.
Ryo answered the door, looking a bit surprised, "Wait, do I know you?"
"Maybe a little, but Amy might remember me," the voice at the door was immediately recognizable to the girl.
"Peter!" Amy dashed to the front door and glomped Peter, knocking the boy over. "Peter! You're here!"
"Whoa, you're strong!" Peter said, returning the hug regardless. "How have you been?"
"Just fine," Amy said, breaking the hug to help Peter up. "Sorry about that."
"It's no trouble," Peter said.
"So, what brings you here? Did you miss me that much?" Amy asked.
"Well yeah, I did, but that's not all," Peter said. "It's about Sonic."
"What about him?" Sally asked, walking over with Tails, Cream and Fuku.
"He...got arrested," Peter said.
"He WHAT!?" everyone asked in disbelief.
Over in San Francisco, California, Sonic was being piloted away on a helicopter.
"Sigma Alpha 2, heading due south over the city," came the pilot's voice. "We're on route, everything's a go."
"This is control tower, we have you on radar," the tower said. "Report cargo status of captured hedgehog status aboard, over."
"10-4, cargo secured on board and...what!? The hedgehog is gone!?"
"Didn't copy that, over!"
Suddenly Sonic burst out of the helicopter, grabbing onto the engine part as a man shouted, "Hey! Stop that hedgehog!"
Sonic leapt onto the top of the plane, pulling off a piece of it, "What a low budget flight. No food or movies? I'm out of here! I prefer running anyway!" He jumped down, using the piece of the plane as a type of board as he dived toward the ground. "Yeah!"
Sonic landed on the streets below, gliding along as he began his escape from the military pursuit.
"Attention all units, suspect seen heading south. Block all major roads and capture the suspect."
As Sonic boarded down the hills of San Francisco, both Johnny and Rainbow Dash flew beside him, simultaneously getting his attention. "Yo! Sonic!"
"Johnny! Dash! Long time no see!" Sonic said.
"Has it really been that long?" Johnny asked.
"We heard you got captured by the military, they said you stole something," Rainbow Dash said.
"Yeah, they said I stole a Chaos Emerald," Sonic said.
"Chaos Emerald? That's weird, aren't they yours to begin with?" Johnny asked.
"Not quite," Sonic said, making a sharp turn. "Still, all I know is that someone set me up!"
"We'll help you out!" Rainbow Dash said.
"Got that right," Johnny said. "Together we'll clear your name and find the actual thief."
"Glad I can count on you too!" Sonic said, approaching a ramp. "Time for some air!"
Sonic boarded off, doing some neat spins midair, amazing both Johnny and Rainbow Dash in the process, the latter's eyes sparkling in amazement. "So...AWESOME!"
"Alright, let's focus," Johnny said. "Time for a City Escape!"
"Rolling around at the speed of sound! Got places to go! Gotta follow my rainbow!" Rainbow Dash sang as the three went further down the hill. "Can't stick around, have to keep moving on! Guess what lies ahead, only one way to find out!"
"Is she singing?" Sonic asked.
"It's an Equestrian thing," Johnny said.
"Must keep on moving ahead! No time for guessing, follow my plan instead!" Rainbow Dash sang as Sonic landed in a nearby park area. "Trusting in what you can't see! Take my lead, I'll set you free!"
"She's got a nice singing voice," Sonic said just as a G.U.N. Hunter landed in front of him. Sonic immediately took it out with one homing attack.
"Got that right," Johnny said. "Take it home Dash!"
With a smirk, Rainbow Dash flew ahead as more Hunters showed up. "Follow me! Set me free! Trust me and we will escape from the city! I'll make it through prove it to you! Follow me!"
The three kept speeding through the backstreets of the city, approaching another hill and bypassing all the cars as they quickly waved to each of the citizens.
"Probably can't see anything but blue wind, fire and a rainbow," Johnny said.
"Hate that I have to speed through this place, it looks really nice," Sonic said.
"Once we clear your name, we'll take a tour," Johnny said. "You gotta see the Golden Gate Bridge! It's one of the best bridges that's not in New York."
"Sounds awesome, I should bring my friends too," Sonic said.
"Where are they? Still in Japan?" Johnny asked.
"For now, I imagine they're on their way to San Francisco," Sonic said.
"Fortunately it shouldn't be too hard to get here, it's not that far from Station Square, and they're very familiar with that place," Rainbow Dash said. "Still, how'd they even find you?"
"Some suits showed up out of nowhere, they knew who I was because of some blog posted by a kid we saved in Station Square," Sonic said. "Plus I guess hedgehogs like me kind of stand out."
"Unfortunately," Rainbow Dash said, the three flying through a park and taking out all the Hunters and Beetles that G.U.N. sent after them. "Soon we'll make that a good thing."
"Yeah, after saving Station Square, you deserve more respect than this," Johnny said.
"We all saved Station Square," Sonic pointed out.
"Yeah, but you did all the work with that boss transformation of yours," Johnny said as they continued down the streets.
"And you all kept people safe while I was fighting Chaos," Sonic said as they made one last dash through the backstreets. "Don't let me take all the credit here."
"Humble guy, aren't you?" Rainbow Dash said. "It's alright to brag a bit, no one's judging you."
"Not that they should," Johnny said.
Sonic and his friends continued onto another street where a giant truck appeared behind them, chasing the trio.
"What the hell!?" Johnny said.
"That truck's big!" Rainbow Dash said.
"It thinks it can catch us, let's outrun it!" Sonic said, boosting away with his friends, leaving the truck in the dust as they reached an arch too big for the truck to pass through as it ended up crashing.
"Wow, that was one Mad Convoy," Rainbow Dash said.
"Left some damage behind too," Johnny said, a bit concerned about the citizens. "Dash, I'm gonna check on them, make sure they're alright."
"Right behind you," Rainbow Dash said.
Suddenly a robot landed nearby, aiming its guns at the two. "Freeze!"
"Rainbow Dash, help Johnny," Sonic said. "I'll take care of this thing."
"You got it, kick it's butt!" Rainbow Dash said, flying off.
"Big foot to headquarters, the hedgehog has been located," the pilot said.
"Copy that," a voice replied as the machine went after Sonic, firing it's guns at him.
Sonic was quick to dodge out of the way, then hit it with a homing attack, stumbling it back. Sonic reeled back and hit a spindash, knocking it back even further.
"Requesting back up! Repeat! Requesting back up!" the pilot said as it took to the air and attacked from above.
"Not enough," Sonic said, leaping onto a crate and hitting some more homing attacks until the machine was down.
"How? It's only one hedgehog!" The pilot said as his vehicle crashed.
Sonic wiped a bit of dust off him, taking another look around to make sure there wasn't more trouble, when he came across something strange. Shadow had landed on the fallen machine.
"It all starts with this, a jewel containing the ultimate power!" Shadow said as he held up the Green Chaos Emerald.
"That's a Chaos Emerald!" Sonic said.
Rainbow Dash had noticed from nearby, seeing Shadow not too far from Sonic. "Johnny! I think we found our gem thief!" She looked back trying to find her partner. "Johnny!?"
"Now I know what's going on! Seems like the military has me confused for the likes of you!" Sonic said as he walked over. "So, what are you planning to do with that Emerald!?"
"Johnny! Hurry up!" Rainbow Dash called, keeping an eye on things. "Really don't trust that other hedgehog!"
"Say something! You imposter!" Sonic shouted as he leapt to attack.
"Chaos Control!" Shadow said, using the energy to zoom past Sonic, taking him by surprise.
"Whoa! He's fast!" Rainbow Dash said.
Sonic looked around in confusion, then saw Shadow on the other roof. "Is that his speed? Or was it the Chaos Emerald's power?"
"My name is Shadow! And I am the World's Ultimate Lifeform," Shadow said, using the emerald to warp. "I have no time for games, Farewell!"
"Wait up!" Rainbow Dash said, speeding over to grab him, but he was already gone. "Geez, what was that about?"
"So, his name's Shadow?" Sonic asked, then heard some sirens approaching.
"Stay where you are and keep your hands in the air!" A cop said.
"Crap!" Rainbow Dash turned her attention to the developing situation. "I gotta do something, but what?"
Sonic turned to Dash, wagging his finger as he complied with the officers. In time he was locked up again and driven off, Rainbow Dash looking very disappointed.
"Sorry Sonic, I'll bust you out," Rainbow Dash said. "Assuming your friends don't do it first."
"Dash!" Johnny said, flying over.
"Johnny! I was calling you!" Rainbow Dash said.
"Sorry, some people got hurt, those morons at G.U.N. do not care about civilians, do they? And They're supposed to be a military group? No wonder they're barely known, they suck," Johnny said. "The citizens were fine. Funny enough, I think I saw that cat guy, Big I think his name is."
"Good that you helped everyone, but big problem," Rainbow Dash said. "Sonic just got captured by the police again."
"Aw, damn," Johnny said. "Might be harder to break him out. We took enough of a risk helping him in the first place."
"We're not giving up, we'll clear his name," Rainbow Dash said. "Also, I saw who framed Sonic."
"Really? Who was it?" Johnny asked.
"Another hedgehog, named Shadow," Rainbow Dash said.
"Shadow huh? Alright, time to shine a light on this creep, let's fly," Johnny said, flying off with Rainbow Dash.
Not too far away, Jacky Bryant had seen the situation himself, the hometown racer looking a bit worried, "I don't know what's going on, but I gotta get to the bottom of this myself. That hedgehog still owes me a race." He immediately drove off, ready for the next part of his plan.
The second Sonic Adventure in California was underway.
