Amy hurried down the path. She had no idea where to begin. The pink Hedgehog looked once again at the parchment in her hand as she raced down the crooked trail. Who'd write such an odd threat, and what did it have to do with her? It wasn't even possible to chalk it up to someone mistaking her for this 'Sandy' person. It was addressed to her.
It was beyond her understanding.
She paused when they arrived at an old log bridge. The ropes, worn from age and frequent usuage, were torn. It dangled over the river's rapids below the sheer drop.
Shadow glanced around and commented, "This would only take a minute." He pulled out an emerald. "Chaos control!"
For a moment nothing happened. Amy tilted her head.
"Hey, shouldn't that have teleported us, Shadow?" Both stared intently at the red emerald.
Shadow lifted it for a closer look. "It seems to be the real one. Should've worked."
A strange female voice called out to them and said, "Such a pity. You should've watched where you step." Both Hedgehogs looked up and noticed a female Wolf on the other side of the bridge. She smiled and narrowed her eyes at Amy. The Wolf jumped on a close bridge post. Her elegance and excellent balance became as obvious as the daylight sun. "I'm going to enjoy disposing of you."
"Seriously. This again?" Amy complained. "Look, whoever this Sandy is, I'm not her!"
"Silence! I'm not blind. Of course you're not Sandy. I think I can tell apart pink from yellow."
"Wait, what?"
Amy thought, She knows that I'm not Sandy and wants to attack me? Did she write me that letter? Whatever I do, I have to be careful. I have no idea what I'm dealing with here.
The Wolf performed a large jump and pushed out her foot. "Enough of this foolishness! Die, Amy!" Her foot aimed for Amy as she sped back down in their direction. All Amy could do was stare.
"Not if I could help it," Shadow remarked as he blocked and siezed the Wolf's ankle. It took the attacker by surprise. Before she spoke another word, she was flung into a tree trunk. "Fact of the matter is, I can't let you live."
The Wolf yelled, "WHAT? Who do you think you are? Do you even know who you're messing with here?!"
"No. But give me a name, and I might consider carving it into your tombstone." The black Hedgehog smirked only for a moment. His tension built as he stepped towards the Wolf mage. It was impossible to ignore his menacing demeaner as his blood-red eyes narrowed at the Wolf. She tensed. Her knees buckled, and her fingers shook. Were it not for her grey fur, one would have seen the colour leave her cheeks. As he closed in, he added, "You stole something from me, and for that you must pay with your life."
With blue eyes shrunk with horror, the Wolf mage pushed her back into the trunk. She held out a trembling hand. "Ah, that? Me stealing your powers? No. Wait. Let me explain."
"Speak."
Shadow didn't stop. Every step he made caused the Wolf to tremble more.
For someone without powers, he's sure frightening, Amy thought as she reached for Shadow and said, "Maybe we should try a less menacing approach?"
"Such as?" He glanced at her ever so slightly. His gaze was so mesmerizing that Amy felt as though pulled into a trance. She couldn't help but notice that up close, they were more like rubies rather than drops of blood.
She shook her head to re-focus and answered, "Well, first of all, we need answers. There's no possible way I'm the same Amy Rose she wants to kill. I'm not from this world. Maybe I have a double here. Which really explains being attacked by her and this note." She held up the parchment.
The Wolf stared as she heard Amy talking. She clenched her teeth and growled.
The mage said, "You are the same Amy. Make no mistake. I detest both you and your sister."
"Okay, say for a moment that I believe you, why do you hate me?"
"How can you ask such a thing? Are you blind?"
"I have no memory of this place. I literally fell out of a portal yesterday. I've been in other world since I was eight."
The Wolf paused for a moment. "It is true that no one's seen you since you and your sister ran away that one night. Everyone assumed that you were training under your Master Merlin like your sister has been."
Both Amy and Shadow looked at the Wolf in disbelief. Nothing she said made any sense.
The Wolf looked between them and said, "I'll have you know that wizards who study dimensional portals will tell you that while it's possible to have doubles, there's a way tp use magic to determine which world is yours. And I could tell you quite clearly that you are from here."
"Look, I don't remember ever being here..." and as though on cue, Amy's book fell out of her pocket. She picked it up, but the Wolf pointed at it.
"You dare deny having any ties here, but you go around carrying Master Merlin's book of notes?!"
"Huh? This?" Amy held out the book while seemingly confused. She thought, The only memory I had when I was eight was Sonic finding me in the middle of nowhere with this book. Could I really be from here? Am I really this Amy that the Wolf wants to kill?
The Wolf paused and said, "Wait, you're not lying, are you? You really don't remember anything?"
Amy shook her head. "No. All I know is when I was eight, I was in the middle of nowhere with nothing but this book and somehow knew my name. But I didn't know why I was there or how I had gotten there."
"So much for my revenge." The Wolf stood up with slight dissappointment. She placed a hand on her hip as she looked to the side. Shadow cleared his throat, and the Wolf sighed. She snapped her fingers and said, "There. Your power's back. You're welcome."
The multi-coloured Hedghog glared. It made the Wolf recoil. Amy gave Shadow a look to which he responded with a smile.
The pink Hedgehog turned to the Wolf who said, "Well, this has been nothing but wasteful and embarrassing. I'm outta here. Catch you on the flipside. Or hopefully not at all."
"Good," Shadow muttered.
"Wait!" Amy called.
The Wolf, though filled with impatience, paused. "Listening."
"My sister, the one you said I had, what's her name? Where can I find her? Please help."
For another moment, the Wolf looked at Amy. "She lives in a heavily-secured castle. It's north of here over that bridge. As for her name, it's Sandy."
"Well...that explains why people kept calling me that. Oh, I nearly forgot." She held out the arrow's note and asked, "This note was given to me, calling me a traitor?"
"A note? Guess I'm not the only one who spotted you here."
"So it's not from you?"
The Wolf shrugged. "Trust me, I'd rather throw punches than send cryptic notes." With that, she left and said, "And with that said, I have somewhere to be."
Shadow glared in her direction, and said, "Then leave."
The glare was enough to make the Wolf back off and run as fast as her legs could carry. Amy looked at Shadow.
"That wasn't very nice."
Once again, Shadow smirked and replied, "She was getting on my last nerve."
He turned back to the bridge and pulled her friend. They were engulfed into a green energy and reappeared on the other side of the bridge. As Amy looked ahead, she thought Whoever you are, Sandy, maybe you can give me a better idea of what's going on here. You might know who had sent me this note and how I ended up in Sonic's world.
In the meantime, Sonic and Tails finally arrived at a village. After being surrounded by what seemed to be endless trees, it was trully a sight to behold. They ran between various villagers and asked them about the female Hedgehog in the paper they had discovered. It only ended with the villagers dodging the questions or being so frightened that they refused to answer.
Sonic scratched his head and muttered, "I don't get it. I'm just showing them Amy's picture."
Tails suggested, "Maybe it's someone who looks like Amy, and it's only a coincidence that there's resemblance."
"I...guess..." Sonic looked at the picture of Amy and looked ahead in the village. Further ahead was a castle. He snapped his fingers and said, "Let's check out that place, Tails. If they made this poster maybe they'd seen her."
With that, the two boys ran straight for the castle.
