Harry Does Different CDLV

Letter to the Grangers II

"I trust the first term of the year has been educational for everyone." Dumbledore stood after nodding to have his deputy tap her goblet for attention "Now I know will all wish to fill our bellies before the morning Express ride. However two breaks with tradition have been necessitated. Parents only very rarely come to Hogwarts, but even less frequently would they request to speak to the student body. I have been assured they will not take up much time. With that, I yield the floor to Michelle and Ian Granger. Many of you, particularly our younger Gryffindors, will know their daughter?"

There wasn't even time for a heartbeat before a protest of "What are we coming to! Mudbloods are one thing, but actual dirty Muggles? No wonder it smelled in here." Came from the Slytherin table.

"Mr. Malfoy, it is fortunate you are going home in the morning, or I would assign a lengthy detention." Professor McGonagall's tone cut through the laughter "As it is, I can take 25 points from Slytherin for rudeness to EACH of our guests. And a further 50 points for interrupting the Headmaster. You will also, in addition to whatever holiday homework was assigned, write me a 1000-word essay concerning appropriate behavior."

The whole green and silver house gave furious looks to either the Deputy Headmistress or their Housemate.

"Perhaps, young man, you would like to make an appointment with our office." Michelle suggested with a smirk. Those acquainted enough with the young Gryffindor found that immensely amusing.

Ian chuckled briefly then "We leave discipline in the administration's hands. But moving on, like any family of a first generation student, we knew nothing about magic except those accidental incidents any child may do. The notion of a time tuner was presented to us merely as a sort of wizard study aid. That one can literally manipulate time is shocking. As this matter has become something of a scandal here, we felt a public airing was in order."

The Headmaster looked uncomfortable, but the couple either didn't notice or weren't concerned. The husband continued "Were we asked? And did we consent? Yes. But, we now know, with rather limited information. Such a device strikes me …us… as quite dangerous. Something that should be highly restricted, let alone used by someone barely beginning her education."

"Brains are important, but neither of us would allow even a medical student to pull a tooth." Added Michelle. She ignored the blank expressions from a large proportion of the body. "Based on our daughter's letters, and a little interpolation, we would like to thank Harry Potter for explaining magic in Muggle terms. And for him to know …publicly… that we know he did so with the best of intentions. Harry, you are a good friend." Having concluded, the parents made their way to the Gryffindor table.

Dumbledore gave a few claps in tribute "Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Granger. Perhaps some of what we do needs updating. We shall see what we shall see. Enjoy your meals."
