The front door to the Iida household slowly opened up as Madoka quietly stepped through the doorway. She was followed by Tenya and Katara walking inside after her, all of them silently taking their shoes off and looking down to the ground. After spending the night and a majority of the next day at the hospital Tensei convinced them to finally go home and get some real rest. While they did finally agree to it, it wasn't easier for any of them to leave.
Madoka looked over to the two teens seeing how quiet they were, taking a breath and standing back up. "I can make something to eat if you want." She asked them.
Tenya didn't turn back to her, shaking his head. "No thank you."
Madoka watched her son walk away down the hall towards his room. "I can bring something to you later if-
"I'm alright mother. I just… need some rest."
Katara felt her heart ache as she stared to Tenya disappear down the hallway, looking back to Madoka's lonely face. With Toki choosing to stay a little longer at the hospital, Katara knew they would be alone for the night. And at this moment, she didn't want to go to the empty place she had learned to call home.
"I could use some tea, please." Katara asked, earning a nod from Madoka. She followed the older woman through the house and into the kitchen, sitting down at the table while her host went to the cabinets and pulled out a pair of cups. Katara slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled her phone out, looking at it for the first time in the last two days. She had heard it going off many times, but she was too distraught to open it up to see who it was. When she did, she was met with a flood of messages of notifications of texts and missed calls. She sighed and opened up the messages seeing the many concerns of everyone, the news of what happened obvious to everyone now.
Midoriya: Hey, I saw on the news what had happened to Ingenium. I am really sorry. I tried calling Iida but he is not responding. I hope you are doing okay. Tell him I wish the best.
Ashido: Hope you are doing okay, girl. If you need anything let me know. Alway's there to help. :)
Uraraka: I saw the news. I'm really sorry! I hope you and Iida are okay.
Tokoyami: I heard of what happened why you had to miss the end of the festival. If you need help I am there to listen.
Asui: Please let us know how it goes. Hope you are okay.
Hagakure: Wish the best Katara. Tell Iida I hope his brother is okay!
Jiro: Hey. Didn't see you after the festival. Wish the best for you. Keep me updated on how Iida's brother is.
Yaoyorozu: Katara, I am so sorry. I heard about what happened after school. I hope you are doing alright. They gave us the whole weekend off so no school tomorrow either. I know it's a rough time, but if you need someone to talk to, I'll be there for you. Take care.
Crack!
Katara jumped in shock from the sharp crash of glass behind her, looking back to see Madoka staring down to a shattered cup on the counter. "Are you okay?" Katara asked.
"S-sorry. I should have paid attention better." Madoka tried playing it off with a smile. "Just so clumsy sometimes." The blue haired woman went to pick up a few pieces of the counter, but as she lifted the chunks her shaking hands caused them to fall from her fingers. She stared down to her hands as her vision became blurry, the wetness in her eyes dripping down her cheeks and onto her fingers. Before she could wipe her hand dry, another warm hand embraced her own, looking over to see Katara standing next to her.
The waterbender simply pulled the woman in close, embracing her in a much needed hug. Katara felt Madoka's arms slip behind her and hug her back, laying her crying face on the teens shoulder. Katara exhaled as she heard the light sniffles from the one in her arms. "It will be alright. He will be okay." Katara quietly said to her.
Madoka nodded against the others shoulder, pulling her in closer. "I know. It's just… he will never be the same."
Katara winced hearing that, stroking the tormented mothers back. "But he is alive, and I will help all of you in any way I can."
The two stayed in silent together, finding the comfort they both needed with one another.
"Wait, are you serious?"
"Yes I am." Shoto answered as he put his shoes on before leaving his house. "It's finally time I go there."
His sister Fuyumi stared at him in confusion. "But why now? After all this time what made you want to go there?"
Shoto stared at the door for a few moments as he thought of an answer, turning back to his sister standing there. "I'll be back later."
Leaving his home, Shoto walked in silence down the road towards the nearby train station. The entire way there he thought of the question his sister asked him, still nervous of finally facing her after all these years.
'Ever since that day, I didn't know what to truly think what happened. I was so angry that I only saw my own pain.' he said to himself, walking on and sitting onto the train. 'I have been so focused on my own anger, I have never considered the help she needed this entire time.'
Since the day he got burned, the only thing Shoto cared about was going against his fathers own lust for power. It controlled everything in his life, from the way he trained only his right side and even the way he treated others. He kept his emotions bottled up, leaving himself with nothing but the drive for rebellion to his dad. And yet when he tried to prove his point during the sports festival, everything he was aiming was destroyed by the very person he was aiming to beat.
He sighed to himself as he laid his head back against the seat behind him. He still couldn't believe how Katara was the one he was so determined to beat because of her encounter with his dad, and yet she was the one who made him see the mistakes of his actions. She had taken his horrible treatment the entire month in school, and she still held nothing against him and even helped open his eyes to the closed minded life he was trying to live. It was something he never expected, but she made him realize he wasn't the only one in life who had suffered.
'She lost her mother, and yet she has been able to move on through her life. I have been living as if I have lost her, but she is still alive. I lost who I was and chose to avoid her.' Shoto clenched his fist in frustration to himself as he stood up and exited the train, making his way out of the station and onto the street towards his destination.
'I tried to abandon who I really was, but doing so… I abandoned her.' He paused as he reached the hospital he was searching for, his heart suddenly feeling weak now that he was here. He couldn't stop here though, because he had to be stronger. 'I realized where I went wrong, and I must make it right.'
Stepping through those hospital doors was harder than the festival he completed the day before, his pulse getting faster with every step he took. Shoto didn't stop though. He knew if he was to be the hero he wanted to be, he had to face the past he had tried to forget. 'I have to look her in the eyes, and tell her what I have been feeling this entire time; that I do not blame her for what she did to me, and I am the one who is sorry. I should have been there for when she needed it.'
He paused when he reached the door to the room he was searching for, taking a breath before reaching for the handle with his left hand. His mind pictured Katara once again, that smile she gave to him when he used his left side bringing a strange sense of clearance to his mind. 'If Katara can help me with my own struggles, then I have to be the one to help her here. That is what a hero would do.'
Pushing the door open, he walked inside and felt his heart jump when he saw her looking out of the window. The snow white hair he had remembered as a child was sitting there in front of him, his hands sweating in
"Hello mother…"
The woman shifted slightly to the voice behind her, one she had not heard in so long. She turned around, Shoto's breath catching in his chest. Her face was just as beautiful as he always remembered, her eyes staring at him in disbelief to seeing him again.
'Even if she doesn't want to, I will save her from this place. If my classmate can help me, then I can surely help you, mom. I will be here for you now.'
Momo laid on her bed as she stared up to the ceiling. She stared at her phone at the text she sent Katara the day before, becoming worried that she still hadn't received a response yet. After they returned to class after the festival, Aizawa gave the class a quick update to why both Iida and Katara suddenly disappeared. The news was horrible, being all over the broadcasts that evening when she got home. She had hoped to talk to her parents about what happened that day over dinner.
If they were home to talk about it.
She huffed out and crossed her arms across her chest, sitting up and walking out of her room into the massive hallway. The cold tile only adding to the loneliness she was feeling at the moment. She slowly walked through the enormous home and into the large kitchen, her eyes looking around to hopefully be surprised by one of them coming home early. When they weren't there, she rubbed her fingers together and pulled out a water from the fridge and sat down on the bar stool.
When school had ended, Momo was met with her families personal driver to pick her up. She was disappointed to learn her parents had to go out out of the country again for a last minute company board meeting in China. It was something she was used to growing up as the child of CEO's, but it was nothing she ever enjoyed. Even though her parents were kind and loving, not having them around was still hard for any kid. Money only got so much love for a kid who wanted more.
"Money…" She whispered to herself, laying her head down on her arms.
Ever since her match with Bakugo, Momo's mind was a troubled mess after what happened. The loss was hard enough, but the words he said to her unearthed things she had hoped to not tell anyone. Secrets she had kept hidden that came out in a flood of emotions before she realized what she was even saying. And now she had to come clean to what really happened to her two new friends. She was ready to tell them the truth that evening, but then everything that happened with Iida and his brother took over everyone's thoughts.
Bzzz.
Momo's eyes widened at the vibration in her pocket, her hand scrambling in her pocket to pull it out quickly. She swiped it open hoping she finally heard from Katara, but instead met with another.
"Midoriya…" She whispered to herself.
Hey I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were doing.
Momo blushed slightly at the text. "He was thinking about me?"
Bzzz.
Not that I was thinking about you all day like that!
Bzzz.
Sorry if I sounded creepy!
Bzzz.
I was just wondering if you were okay.
Momo couldn't help but giggle thinking how flustered he must have been on the other end of the phone, but felt happy he was concerned for her. She typed her response and sent it back.
I'm upset, but I will be okay. Thank you for asking. How are your injuries feeling?
Before she could put her phone down, she was surprised to get another text before hers went through.
I was just a little worried after your match. You were very upset and I was concerned about what you said happened to you before.
Momo felt her heart tighten after reading his message, thinking back to what she told both him and Katara. She didn't know why though, she didn't want to keep this secret from them anymore. After hearing what they told of their similar struggles, she realized they could probably help her with her own struggles.
I know. But I would rather not talk about it on the phone. I will tell you in person soon.
She exhaled when she sent the message, knowing there was the other secret she let out in that hallway. While she was still hesitant, she typed another message.
Both things that I told you. I will soon. Thank you.
Setting her phone down, Momo laid her head back onto her arms as she thought about what she would say to them. Either way, she way going to tell them soon.
Midoriya stood there in his room with his phone trembling in his hands.
"Holy crap… texting back and forth with girls feels so weird still!"
Having two days off was a blessing for Katara, the extra day off giving her some time to clear her head. It still wasn't ideal for her though, waking up the next day and finding it still empty. She even slept on the couch in the living room the night before, hoping for some reason she would see Tensei come through the door soon. She unfortunately woke to the disappointment of him still not there. She just needed some time to think to herself, still not responding to any of the messages she had received from her friends.
The second morning back at the house she stared at herself in the mirror dressed in her school uniform. She almost wanted to stay here another day, but she knew Tensei would want her to be strong and continue forward. She slipped her backpack on and walked out of her room through Tensei's house, exiting the entry door and into the main hall of the Iida's. She should have been surprised she wasn't met by Tenya already waiting for her, but with everything happening she knew he most likely was not coming to school today.
Sighing to herself, she walked to the front door and slipped her shoes on, sitting on the chair while she waited a few more minutes. After sometime however, she knew if she waited any longer they would both miss the scheduled train to school. Taking a deep breath, she stood back up and opened the door revealing the rain coming down. She turned to grab the nearby umbrella, but was surprised to see another hand lift it off the side rack.
"You will need this." Tenya said as he held the umbrella to her.
"Iida?" Katara said in surprise. She hadn't seen him since they had come back from the hospital, never once even seeing him come out of his room. "I didn't think you were going to come to school today."
He nodded back to her. "Of course I am going. I cannot just sit and sulk."
Before she could respond, He had already handed her an umbrella while walking out of the door with his own. Katara stared as he walked into the rain before flipping his umbrella open and turning down the sidewalk. She quickly popped hers open and chased after him down the road until she was next to him. She looked up to him and smiled. "Well I'm glad you are coming. It makes it easier going back if you are there too."
"Of course. The same goes for you too." He said back. Even though he smiled, Katara could see the uneasiness in his face.
"Hey, I want you to know that I will be here whenever you need someone. Whenever you need help, you come to-
"I appreciate it Katara, but I am fine." he cut her off, not looking her direction.
Katara looked up to his pained eyes, feeling her heart aching wanting to help. "Please, whenever you need me I will-
"Katara…" Tenya halted his steps as the rain beat down on his umbrella. "I am fine, but please do not try and mother me. I already have one, and I didn't ask for another."
The words cut deep into Katara's heart, the pain obviously showing on her face. Tenya noticed it and felt guilty, sighing and reaching out to grip her shoulder. "I'm sorry. I just… I appreciate you trying to help, but I wish to just have my own space."
Katara didn't say anything as Tenya walked away from her. She stared down the road watching him stomp along the wet sidewalk, leaving her alone under her umbrella. She slowly stepped after his steps, her eyes hung low as she felt those words still stinging. Normally she would have snapped back at him for what he said, but she knew he was hurting now and if she pushed too hard now, he would only grow more distant from her. She gripped her umbrella tighter and walked faster until she was next to him again.
The two stayed silent the rest of the way to school, sitting on the train and not looking at each other. Katara rubbed her fingers together while she sat there bouncing to the moving train, her mind aching to yell at him what she wanted to say. She held her tongue though, listening as the conductor announced the stop they needed and sighed. "Even if you don't want it, I'll be there to help you, okay?"
It was her turn to leave before he could respond, standing up and walking off the train. She flipped her umbrella back open and stepped out to the rain taking a few breaths to calm herself and made her way down the steps out of the station. Katara
"Katara!"
The loud call behind made Katara flip around, seeing Midoriya running down the sidewalk underneath his jacket. His eyes were wide as he skidded to a stop in front of her. "Katara, I heard about what happened. I tried getting a hold of both of you and Iida!"
"I know, and sorry I didn't respond…" Katara said back to him, "I just… needed a little time to think."
Midoriya gave a quick nod. "I-I understand. I was worried about what happened. Everyone is. Aizawa sensei told us to… give you two some space." He then noticed Tenya coming down the road as well. "Iida!"
The speedster student approached and nodded. "Midoriya, I am glad you have recovered from your injuries."
"Thanks, but I haven't heard from you at all these last few days. I was worried about you and-
"I am alright, Midoriya. My brother is alive and recovering. I appreciate your concern." Tenya quickly said and gave the same forced smile he used earlier with Katara before walking down the road quickly, leaving the two standing in the rain. Midoriya stared after him jogging down the sidewalk, feeling the uneasy tension between the two of them.
"His brother, is he alright?" Midoriya asked looking back to Katara, the waterbender nodding.
"He is hurt really bad, but he will live. Iida is taking it really hard."
"And you?"
Katara clutched her umbrella a little tighter to the question and bit her bottom lip. "It's been… hard. For all of us." She looked over to Midoriya hunched underneath his jacket, a small smile forming on her face. "Here."
Midoriya tilted his head in confusion, but then blushed slightly as she moved forward and moved the umbrella over him too. "I-I'll be okay. I can manage it to school. You don't need to give up your cover." he sheepishly said.
Katara shook her head chuckling and moved closer next to him. "I have room under here. Get out of the rain."
The two of them walked hunkered together under the umbrella as they walked towards school, the green haired teens face slightly red as he walked shoulder to shoulder with her. He smiled sheepishly and rubbed his damp head. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it." she said back to him. Her smile faded when she saw Iida further down the sidewalk alone. "He won't talk about it at all."
Midoriya turned and looked the same direction after their friend. "After what happened to his brother, I understand why. After what I saw on the news, it is not something I would forget."
that last sentence caught Katara's attention, thinking back to what everyone messaged her over the last few days. "You saw what happened to his brother on the news?"
He nodded. "Yes. It… was all over the internet."
Katara's eyes shifted back down the sidewalk, not realizing how tight she was gripping the umbrella. "And… you know who was the one who hurt him?"
Midoriya glanced over to the teen next to him, feeling his his heart jump to the look on her face. "Y-yes. Why?"
Katara took a deep breath as her mind replayed the sight of seeing Tensei injured in the hospital, his crippled body unable to move. She was so troubled by his state, she never bothered to find out who was the one responsible for what happened to him. Now that she had experienced the sadness of loss, she was now feeling the frustration of knowing the one who hurt him was still out there. It was so similar to the feeling she had when she was with Zuko, flying over the ocean to find closure to her past.
She looked up and saw the UA building in front of them, taking several deep breaths to control her heart rate. "I'll have to do some research later."
Midoriya felt a lump in his throat to the look on her face, a hint of worry forming in his chest as they walked up the steps into the school. "Are you… okay?"
She gave a slight nod. "I will be." closing the umbrella once they were inside the school, Katara bended whatever water hit her and Midoriya's clothes off and dropped it to the side. She quickly walked away from his confused look to hide the frustration on her face. "I will be soon."
Katara made her way to their classroom door, sliding it open and was met with everyone staring up to her from heir seats. "Katara, hey!" Mina yelled in excitement seeing her.
"Glad to see you are back." Jiro nodded from the front.
Katara smiled and nodded back. "Thanks. Glad to be back."
A few others attempted to stand up and talk to her, but Aizawa stepped forward cutting them off. "Everyone to your seats, we have some important things to discuss about the upcoming weeks."
Katara turned back to see him standing by his desk glaring out to the class. She felt the tension in the air, but then remembered Midoriya mentioning they were told to give both Iida and herself space to what happened. It was obvious he wanted to not let the entire class focus on what happened, noticing Tenya already at his desk near hers. She made her way towards her seat, seeing the mix of different nods and smiles from Tokoyami and Tsu, even Aoyama gave her a small nod, all of them letting her know they were happy to see her. Katara then met eyes with the one that would always glare at her, but now his gaze was… normal.
Taking her seat in her chair, Katara glanced to her left and smiled. "I never got to congratulate you on winning. Nice job."
Shoto gave a small nod. "Thanks. I was confused why you did not show up to the awards ceremony. But then we were told what happened afterward."
Katara felt her heart sting again to his statement, giving a small nod. "Yes… it was a lot that happened that day."
Seeing her uneasy, Shoto looked back forward to the front of the class. "If you are uncomfortable, you can talk about what happened another time."
The response he gave was one Katara did not expect. Raising her eyebrow in surprise, she stared at him for a few more moments, seeing the look that had completely different from the cold and unfriendly gaze he had before. It was replaced with a calmer and more relaxed face.
Midoriya made his through the classroom as well, looking back to Iida on the opposite side of the room from his desk. He felt concerned to the state of his friend after what Katara said. He then noticed the big smile of Uraraka reaching him from behind Tenya, giving a big smile back and heading for his seat. When he reached his row, he walked passed the glaring Bakugo and saw another smile coming from a certain ponytailed girl. He went to smile back, but she gave a very subtle nod towards Katara, secretly asking him how she was. He could only give a small shrug in return before turning back to their teacher.
"Alright, you all did very well with the festival. However, while the pros watching it got to see your powers, this was more than just a showing off of your abilities. This gave everyone a chance to see the flaws you all need to improve on. For instance…" Aizawa turned his gaze to Midoriya. "Midoriya, you are still having trouble controlling that power of yours. Get your head into it and train harder."
"Y-yes Sensei!" Izuku blushed and nodded.
Aizawa gave a small nod before looking to the sulking teen in front of Midoriya. "And Bakugo… that temper of yours is embarrassing. If your answer to losing a match is to strike after the bell, then you have much to learn."
Bakugo stomped on the ground in frustration hearing that, glaring to the side and noticing Todoroki looking his way. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. 'That was no fucking loss… I'll prove that next time.' he hissed internally.
"Even Todoroki…" Aizawa looked to the dual haired teen in the back. "You won first, but while you power is impressive, it was clear you need to learn control of your left side. Use these upcoming weeks to train more."
Shoto looked down to his desk, still feeling odd about the sudden change of everything in his life. "Yes, Sensei."
"Good, but before I get to the results of intern offers, there is something important I must remind all of you of first."
Tenya suddenly tensed up, looking up to the teacher at those words. He clenched his fists as he was afraid his brothers condition would be the center of discussion in class now. Katara felt the uneasiness in him next to her, because she felt similar as Aizawa stared blankly out to the class.
"It's time for you all to pick your hero names."
Katara jumped slightly as the class burst out in a loud cheer, most of the students yelling in glee.
"Ah shit, I've been waiting for this day!" Kirishima clenched his fist in excitement.
"Oh magnific! Now I can shine to the world!" Aoyama posed to himself and winked to no one.
"I can't wait to finally be called by my hero name!" Kaminari grabbed his chin picturing the girls flocking to him on the streets. "It will be so cool!"
"What are you going for? Short Circuit?" Jiro teased making his eyebrow twitch.
Katara sat open mouthed to the sudden change in energy among the room. She then sat confused about herself, coming across something she never really thought of. 'I have to make a name for myself?'
"Everyone settle down," Aizawa raised his hands to silence everyone. "The names you choose will come after I show you the scouting numbers you each received. This is the number of pro hero agencies that showed interest in you and want to take you into the field. You have the opportunity to pick where you want to go from the choices you have received." He pointed a his remote to the board and clicked, the screen pulling up a chart. "Here are the totals for those who were given offers."
Hero Internships
Todoroki: 4,453
Bakugo: 3,197
Katara: 2,848
Tokoyami: 577
Kaminari: 272
Yaoyorozu: 118
Iida:94
Kirishima:75
Uraraka: 35
Sero: 14
Ashido: 4
Everyone in the class began muttering in amazement as the chart showed the spread of the top three student numbers. Katara especially was shocked by the massive number of people trying to recruit her. "I can't believe so many people want to have me come study under them." she said out loud.
Uraraka shook beside her in excitement. "You did awesome, that's why! And I got offers too!"
"Yeah but… still." Katara looked to her left and grinned to Todoroki. "Looks like you beat be again when it came to offers."
Shoto however didn't smile at seeing his name on top. "The majority of them are probably offering because of my father."
Katara frowned at his answer. "You think it has nothing to do with you winning first place?"
He didn't answer, instead glancing down to his left hand again. Katara glared to herself seeing him still so angry at his fathers power. For him to win and still not feel excitement for this, his hatred was still running strong.
"Aww, I only got four?" Ashido groaned to herself. "I thought I did so good until then…"
Tokoyami sighed. "Even though you lost, you should feel good that you still received some support at least."
Across the class, Yaoyorozu sighed in relief that she still received offers after her performance in the end of the festival. But what made her heart drop was the fact a certain friend of hers wasn't up there. She looked to Midoriya in front of her, feeling bad no one wanted to give him and internship. She however could understand why they were nervous choosing someone who couldn't continue after hurting himself so bad.
Aizawa deactivated the screen. "Now most years the numbers are more spread out than this, it does seem this last festival was an exception. Katara for example tied for third place, but received more offers than I have ever had for someone in this position. The match between her and Todoroki was of course the reason for support. But for all of you who didn't receive any offers…you will still be interning under someone."
Seeing the mix of confused looks in the class, Aizawa pulled out a stack of whiteboards. "Before we allow you to look at your offers, choosing your name comes before that. The names you make for yourself are important, but they may change by the time you graduate. It is important that you use this time to see how this name fits yourself in the field. A good name will show your personality along with your abilities. If you do not find a name that suits-
"It will be hell to pay later!"
The boys in the class blushed and quietly cheered in excitement as Midnight walked into the room strutting in her tight body suit. Even Katara blushed at the pose, staring as the teacher seemingly tried pushing her chest out for the students to see. 'Is that really okay for a woman her age in a school?' she said to herself.
Aizawa groaned to the teens wide eyes as midnight came in and stood next to him. "Midnight here will be the one in charge of approving your names. I myself am . not much of an expert in this matter, so I will sit this one out." Aizawa pulled his sleeping bag from underneath his desk and walked over to the wall. "Don't bother me until you are all done."
As the homeroom teacher zipped himself up, Midnight lifted up the stack of whiteboards and passed them out to all the rows. "Now this is the chance for you to discover the name that will show yourself to the citizens on the streets. Think about how this name represents you and what you want the world to say when they see you."
Grabbing the whiteboard passed to her, Katara laid it down and then stared blankly at it. Making a hero name was never something she ever thought about doing for herself. She just wanted to help people, but it never came in her mind to think of another alias. She leaned back in her chair and blew out of her mouth. "Making up a name for myself."
Shoto heard her mumbling out loud, sighing to himself. He was never a fan of hero name, writing down the one thing he wanted to be called. "You should pick something that is part of you." he said loud enough for Katara to hear.
Katara tilted her head to what he said, confused by what he meant by that. A part of her… but what could she do by that? She tapped her board thinking of something that she felt fit herself. She listened as a Aoyoma went up first to display his name, calling himself "I cannot stop Twinkling." She frowned thinking of calling herself something like that, not wanting to go by "Splashy girl" or anything in that nature.
She then heard other names like Tsu going by "Froppy" and Yaoyorozu calling herself "Creati". She started imagining simply going by something with her ability. She scratched her head as she began making different things like "The waterbender" or "water master."
…
…
…
"That's stupid." she grunted to herself just imagining people saying that. She had gone by another name back in her world, but that was simply an existing spirit she just impersonated. Calling herself the Painted Lady here just seemed odd. Shoto went up next in the class, but Katara raised her eyebrow when she saw he wrote down simply his real name. Even Midnight was surprised by his choice, leaning forward and looking at his board.
"Shoto? You are going to use your real name?" she asked him.
"Uh huh." Shoto said without much excitement at all, lifting his board and walking back to his seat. Katara stared at him as he sat back down, wondering why he chose that instead of anything else.
"You don't want a hero name?" She asked him.
"I prefer to not have one now." he bluntly answered, making Katara shrug her shoulders.
To the right of the class, Tenya stared at the board below him, his hand struggling to move the marker and write down the name he was told to take, thinking back to his brother lying below him in the hospital. Hearing what Tensei said to him was something that had tormented his mind ever since he came home from the hospital. To take on the title of Ingenium it was… it was too much for him.
He couldn't do it.
Tenya slowly walked up to the front of the class and displayed his own name written on the board. It was the only thing he could think of, sulking back to his seat and hunkering down on the desk. Katara rubbed her fingers together in worry as she looked to his saddened form, worried what was going through his head.
As the other students continued displaying their names, Katara still sat in limbo on what to write. She even considered going by her own name, but just didn't feel that would be good either. She went back to thinking of different titles of things she knew of, going back and-
"Wait…" Katara leaned up as she suddenly remembered something. In her many days looking for spirits in this world, she remembered the name of an old Japanese legend she read about. There was a certain name that stuck out to her among the others. After nights of lost hope realizing it was just a legend, she still found enjoyment in the name because it reminded her of what the moon spirit was to the waterbenders. She took the cap off the marker and wrote the name down that she wanted to go by.
Seeing it was her turn next, Katara stood up and walked to the front of the class. She looked down to the sign and took a deep breath. "This name is one I learned about a while back, and I it always stuck with me." She said out loud and displayed the board to the others.
"The water hero; Ryujin."
"Ooh, how mystic!" Midnight clapped her hands together in approval. "Good choice!"
"That sounds so cool!" Mina cheered from her seat.
Tokoyami gave a small smile to recognizing the name. "The water dragon from ancient Japan. A fitting name for your abilities."
"The same name as the water god? That's a pretty good title for you. Ribbit." Tsu chimed in.
Katara gave a small smile and made her way back to her seat, somewhat pleased with the choice she made for herself. Midnight then turned to her right at the few who haven't gone yet.
"Alright Midoriya, you are up next." Midnight said.
"Uh… right." Midoriya looked back down to the name he wrote down, taking a moment to really take the choice he made and walked to the front, showing everyone his. Unlike many of the ones before, some of the students looked at it with concern.
"Midoriya, are you sure that's what you want, man?" Kirishima asked.
"Yeah, it's not something you made yourself." Sero added.
Midoriya nodded to their questions. "I know, but while I used to not like this name, others showed me it can mean a lot more than what it was. It's a part of me, and by embracing it, no one can use it against me. And from now on, it means "You can do it." hero name; Deku."
Bakugo's eye twitched as he looked up from his seat to Midoriya in front. "What?" he hissed out in annoyance and smashed his pen into his whiteboard.
Uraraka's face lit up hearing him use what she said to him back on the first day of school, feeling a flutter in her stomach. 'He remembered what I said to him!?' she giggled inside and shifted in her seat happily.
After Midoriya walked back towards his seat, he locked eyes with Bakugo for several moments. In this single moment, the name that had been used to hold him down for all these years was now the one that would guide him forward. Bakugo knew that, and that is what frustrated him even more when the green haired kid passed by and sat behind him. Scribbling down his own name, Bakugo growled and stomped to the front of the class. "This is the name all of you extras better remember who will be number one in the end."
He flipped the whiteboard around for everyone.
"KING EXPLOSION MURDER!"
Midnight stared at the teen blankly. "Not going to happen. Try again."
All Might walked through the teacher's computer lounge in his deflated form sipping at his coffee. His eyes browsed as the staff worked diligently sorting out the still incoming requests from hero agencies coming in. He could see a majority of them were all focused on the top three in class 1-A as he expected. After a festival like that, he didn't expect anything else.
"Still have a mountain to go through it seems." All Might chuckled as he stood behind Snipe working, the Gun hero sighing out.
"I'll say. I can't remember so many requests for only three students." Snipe said as he read through the dozens of emails, before one suddenly caught his eye. "Huh… this one just came in actually. It's the first one I've seen for him."
"For who?"
"Izuku Midoriya."
All Might's ears perked up hearing that. "Really? Who is it from?" he leaned in closer to read it, but the moment he did, his eyes burst out of his face and mouth exploded out a fountain of blood.
"BLEHHHHH! WHAT THE HELL!?"
The day seemed to go by in a blur for Katara. The classes blended together after they chose their names and were handed the list of agencies that gave them offers. After they were told they had two days to find their choice, Aizawa let them do their thing for the remainder of the period. Once the final bell had rang, most of the students gathered around and began discussing their possible choices of agencies. Katara looked down at her thick packet in front of her, still waiting to open it up and read through the different agencies. The only problem for her was… she had no idea who most of the heroes were.
She turned and was ready to ask Tenya what he thought, but was shocked to see him already packing his bag and standing up. "You're leaving now?"
"I apologize Katara, but I need to do something in the school library. I may be here a bit late." Tenya gave a small bow to her. "I already let my mother know. I will see you later tonight."
"But…" Katara wanted to be with him to make sure he was okay, but with how much had happened in the last few days, she didn't want to crowd him. "Okay. I'll… see you tonight."
Nodding, Tenya quickly made his way out of the classroom and through the door, leaving the waterbender sitting there alone. She was so tempted to run after him and help him out,for she knew how much he needed it.
"Hey…"
Katara suddenly looked up to the voice to her side, surprised to see Momo standing there with her hands held in front of her. "Hey Yaoyorozu." Katara said with a smile. "How were your days-
"Would you like to hang out after school?" Momo suddenly blurted out, "Some of us were going to get some food tonight, and thought it would be nice for us to get together."
Katara lifted her eyebrow in surprise to the sudden request, but then looked around and saw several other faces looking her way. With Tenya already leaving, a few others were somewhat curious on the situation. Knowing she never responded to any of them, it would be better if she at least gave them an update on what was going on.
"Yeah… that would be nice actually." Katara said with a smile. She noticed Midoriya walking towards the door. "you're leaving too?"
Midoriya shook his head as he slid the door open. "I-I just need to use the bathroom real fast. I will-
"I AM HERE IN A PRECARIOUS POSITION!"
"All Might!?" Midoriya gasped as his idol suddenly slid in front of the door blocking him. "Wh-what are you doing here?"
"Something important to discuss!" All Might waved him to follow. "Please… if you could join me?"
The group of students stared in confusion as the number one hero sped away as quickly as he came, leaving Midoriya standing there open mouthed. "Uhhh…. I'll catch up. L-let me see what he wants."
Watching the green haired teen follow the number one hero, Katara shook her head in confusion and began packing her own bag. She then looked to her left and saw Todoroki sitting quietly looking at his list of offers not paying attention to anyone around him. She then began thinking back, realizing she had never seen him with anyone ever outside of class, always walking alone out of school. She began to feel a sadness in her chest, beginning to realize he must not have actually made a friend since school started. Now that his grudge against her was gone, perhaps she should change that.
"You want to come, too?" Katara asked him, snapping him out of his blank stare.
"What? Come where?" Shoto said in confusion.
"Some of us were going to get some food. Why don't you join us?"
Shoto raised his eyebrow in surprise to her request. "I think I should pass. I should be getting home."
Katara gave a small frown. "Come on, you have something more important?"
In truth he really didn't. He had never actually spent time with classmates outside of school growing up, always made to come back home for mandatory training with his father. Even when he wasn't, it had become his habit to simply go home and do his own thing, never giving the chance to simply spend time with others his age. And now the one who he tried to defeat was asking him to come hang out with others. It felt… strange.
And yet he was tempted to try something different in his life.
"No. I will come then."
"An offer!? Really!?" Midoriya beamed with excitement from what All Might told him in a side hallway alone.
All might's back was to the teen as he stared to the wall on the side."Yes. It is an old friend of my master from a while back. His name is Gran Torino."
"Gran Torino?" Midoriya had not heard of this hero before, but he was still excited to know someone was interested in him. "Wait… he was a friend of your master?"
"Yes. He knows about my quirk One for all as well. He retired a long time ago… So I forgot to mention him in the list of people that know about it."
Woah really!? Wow, if he knows about one for all, that means he may have an idea about teaching it too!" Midoriya clenched his fists in excitement. "I can't wait to meet this hero!" He looked back to his teacher, but was shocked to see something he had never seen.
All Might was shivering!
"Why did he call back after all this time? Did he see the festival and think I failed!?" All Might mumbled to himself and slapped his trembling legs. Stop shaking, damn it! I-It's probably no big deal, he can't be mad, can he? Oh shit, why did I write that letter to him!?"
Midoriya felt his own brow sweating at the sight of his idol shaking. "If All Might is worried… How scary is this guy!?"
Away from everyone else, Tenya let out the breath he had been holding for several moments. He rubbed his forehead to clear his head, but it only brought forth the image of the man he had to find. He clenched his fist in frustration glared out the window to the setting sun.
"It's only a few more days…" he whispered to himself. "Just a little longer until I get there."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his bundled up list of internship offers. Flipping through the pages, he found the single agency that he would apply to. It was the only one where he needed to go, but that's all he needed.
"I will make it right for you Tensei…" he hissed through his teeth as he stared at the hero agency in Hosu. "I will make it right on my own."
Across the city in the Juzo news headquarters, the station was bustling with reporters typing down their stories to deliver to the editor-in-chief for approval. Every single one was hoping to nab the big story to headline the papers tomorrow, and if they were lucky enough, to be the main story for the broadcast team. Articles about the sports festival were of course the main ticket of the evening, everyone wanting to talk about which students were going to be the next big thing. The chief however wasn't as keen on this route, Frowning as she flipped through the dozens of submissions from her employees in her office.
"Everyone has already said what we all know about the festival," She mumbled as she set aside another stack of "endeavor's son" stories. "Everyone knows he is amazing at this point. I need some juice to a story. Something with-
"Chief!"
A yelp escaped the editor's mouth as her door was burst open by one of her younger interns. She glared as he ran into the room. "I told you if you want to give a submission, you leave it outside the room and I will come get it." She scolded him.
"Boss, you have got to read what I have here!" the red haired man yelled as he approached her desk carrying a laptop and handing her a page. "You wanted a story, well I have one you need to see on one of the competitors."
Grunting at his request, she snatched the page from his hand. "If this is another story on Endeavor's kid I swear I'm going to…"
Her words fell flat when she read what he had written down, her eyes widening in shock. "Where did you get this information from?"
"Ever since the festival, I have been following posts of people claiming they recognized one of the students. I tracked them down and tried to get more details, and then I was given this." the man set his laptop on the table and clicked the file he downloaded open, turning the screen for her to see. "This person was there when it happened."
The chief's heart felt like it was doing back flips in her chest, a massive grin spreading across her face. "I want you to get me everything you have on this. Now this is a story for the headlines tomorrow."
Notes: Ohh something big is coming soon. revelations, damaged pasts and secrets coming soon. internship choices will be revealed next chapter, along with something to surprise you all.
