Chapter three, new team first mission
As the sun rises on magnolia, the city begins to awaken with noise. Store owners set up shop in the merchant district to prepare for the day. Fishermen are rowing along the canal.
Along one of the city's canals a colorful building sits on the front. A two-story apartment house with red walls and a dark-brown sloping roof with two chimneys and two dormer windows. The building overlooks one of Magnolia's canals and a stone bridge. Its front door leads to an open hall with a staircase leading to the second floor. Up and to the right on the second floor is an apartment where we find Lucy going through her morning routine.
Not long after getting back from saving macao, Lucy went into the city to find a place to act as her personal residence. After asking around she learned of an apartment for sale close to the guild. This is where we find her now. Being a weirdo and talking to herself.
'This place is absolutely perfect, I still can't believe it's only 7,000 jewels a month, total steal' Lucy thinks as she stretches, getting out of her bed. Taking a quick bath, Lucy prepares for her day. 'It has a nice tub, plenty of floor space, my amazing closet, not to mention the adorable retro fireplace and oven, but the best thing is myyyy….'
Drawing open the curtain separating her kitchen from her bedroom, Lucy sees natsu and happy in her home. Natsu's sitting on her sofa while happy is on the table and the two are surrounded by trash. "MY BEDROOM" Lucy yells before quickly kicking natsu and happy into the wall while still in her bath towel. "Get the heck out you jerks"
"Jeez lucy, we just came over to check out your new pad" natsu says rubbing his cheek
"Oh yeah, what you call checking out i call barging in" lucy says berating the two
"Come on, we're just trying to be friendly"
"This a serious invasion of my privacy"
Entering her bedroom fully, which is quite large and includes a lot of furniture such as her bed, desk, bookcase, dresser, a table with three chairs, a coffee table and an armchair. She also has a large number of books on her shelf.
"Nice place you got here" happy says using the wall a scratching post, tearing lucy's wallpaper
"Let's keep it that way and get your claws off my walls!"
Natsu walks over to Lucy's desk and notices a stack of paper which he picks up to look at.
"Hey whats all this?" he ask before lucy rushes past him ripping the stack from his hand and kicking him across the room
"Its nothing, keep your eyes off"
"You just kicked me in the face over nothing" natsu says rubbing his jaw
"Yah maybe i did, now will you to just go home"
"But your place is so much better"
"At least let me change, dangit, and seriously stop touching my stuff"
Putting her papers down Lucy grabs some clean clothes and steps into the bathroom to change while natsu and happy sits at the table and waits. Finished changing, lucy emerges wearing some jean shorts and a red shirt, she heads to the kitchen to get the tea she had prepared earlier and serves some to the duo before sitting down with a grumpy face.
"Look guys, I just moved in to the place and I'm not ready to have guests over yet, so finish your tea and head out, i'll see you at the guild later, got that" she say resting her head on her hand.
"Talk about cold hearted" natsu mumbles
"Ice cold" happy says out loud
A tick mark appears on lucy's head, "watch it cat"
"We just wanted to get to know you more lucy" natsu says "we talked a lot on the, ugg train, but why don't you tell us more about those key guys you like to collect, specifically the dragon one"
"For your information there called celestial spirits"
"How many of these spirits do you have, lucy?" happy questions
With the subject shifting from their break-in to her spirits, Lucy starts to smile. She's always loved to talk about her spirits because most people know nothing about them.
"Well i have ten so far, but there split into different groups, the silver keys are the most common, so if you find a key it'll likely be silver" taking out her keys, lucy sets her six silver on the table
"Ooo, shiny, hey lucy when you say common do you mean that you can find these in magic shops?" happy ask
"While it's true that you can find the silver keys in magic stores, they're not that common" Lucy says as she grabs some cleaning supplies and begins to polish the keys. "the celestial gate keys are incredibly rare because only 88 keys exist in the whole world"
"Woah that's really cool, so what are these these guys" natsu says in awe
"He he, well these are the keys of horologium the clock, crux the cross, lyra the harp, telescopium the telescope, apus the bird of paradise, and cetus the sea-monster. You guys already met horologium on mt. hakobe. And cetus back in hargeon."
"Oh yeah, the clock guy who spoke for you" natsu says
"Aye and the kraken that destroyed the docks"
"What about the other three, are they silver too?"
At that question Lucy can't help but have a smug face, placing her next three keys on the table.
"These are the gold keys and they are even more rare than the silver because of all the 88 keys, only twelve are gold. The gold keys represent the spirits of the legendary zodiac, right now I have taurus the raging bull, aquarius the water bearer, and cancer the giant crab"
"Bull? You mean the cow guy! I still need to teach him a lesson for calling me pinky" natsu says as he punches his fist into his palm
"Wow, three super duper rare keys of 88 normally rare keys must be pretty amazing lucy, does this mean you're really strong" happy ask as he seems to understand more than natsu what having these keys mean. Lucy smiles at the notion of her being super strong but prefers to adjust happy's view of her
"While it's nice to think of myself as being pretty powerful, the strength of a celestial summoner comes from the bonds and contracts we form with our spirits. Oh wait, that reminds me, I need to make a contract with the key I got in hargeon."
Getting up to graber her new key, Lucy also grabs a few other intricate items from around her room. Moving towards a wooden box, she pulls out a blank piece of parchment, a bottle of ink, and a feather quill. "Do you guys wanna see how a summoner makes a contract with a celestial spirit?"
"Sure," happy responds before turning to natsu and whispering "I hope it's not some kind of creepy blood pact" "Well it sound like a pain in the butt to me"
"I can hear you, and no there is no blood magic involved in the summoning ritual" lucy says before moving on to explain for the two what exactly is going to happen
"Summoning magic is very intricate and certain rituals can require material components for it to work. One of the components is the gate key. When I start, first I'll imbue the key with my own magic and recite the celestial summoning spell. If I do it right, which I will, a magic circle will begin to form and present the gate to the astral sea where the celestial spirits live."
"Ok so what with the paper and junk" natsu asks
"That's for the second half of the ritual, now pay attention and don't interrupt"
Standing in the center of her room Lucy lifts the silver key in the air and begins to imbue it with her magic, while Natsu and Happy watch from the side.
" With the sacred key in my hand, I call upon thee. Answer my call oh spirit of the astral sea, the world of stars and legendary beings. I beckon you, come to my side and enter the material plane. As a daughter of the stars I make this request, Open and pass through the gate of the loyal and faithful hound. Come forth, the little dog, Canis Minor"
As Lucy chants her spell the key begins to glow and magic circles begin to take shape in the space directly in front of her, forming a complete summoning circle. With each line the circle grows and strengthens, Natsu can feel the ambient magic in the air and focuses his attention on lucy. He hadn't noticed it before but he can sense Lucy's magic power and it impresses him.
'Wow lucy's magic power is big, she's using the same amount of magic as i would if i did the fire dragon's roar five times'
As Lucy finished chanting, the gate had fully formed. At its center was the symbol of canis minor, a triangle pointed down with a line extending from the point and curving at the bottom. The door then begins to open as 4 streams of star dust flow out then conjoin into an orb that begins to take the shape of a small canine figure. Before them sits a white furred dog, with blue eyes and an orange horn on its forehead.
"Woah, it's a dog" happy exclaims
"Yep this is the spirit of canis minor, it a pleasure to meet you" lucy says to the spirit
The spirit sits there looking at the trio before raising its head slightly. Natsu and Happy lean forward in anticipation wondering if it's going to talk.
"Hmph" it growls out nodding its head but not actually speaking. Which causes happy and natsu to face faults on the table.
"Aww, was hoping to see a talking animal" happy says in disappointment
"Aren't you a talking cat?" lucy says with disbelief and sarcasm
"Anyway, it's time to move on to the second half of the ritual, canis minor, would you like to form a contract with me?" Lucy asks getting on her knees to be at equal height with the spirit while presenting the parchment, ink, and feather quill infront of her.
The spirit takes note of the items, then looks into Lucy's eyes before nodding its head in agreement. The moment it does magic circles appear beneath the spirit and the summoner as the items are wrapped in a golden glow and begin to float in the air.
"Thank you, let us begin the formation of the contract" lucy says
"Canis minor, I am Lucy and through equal agreement declare the formation of this contract, written in celestial tongue"
As Lucy made this declaration the parchment flew between them and flattened itself in mid air followed by the fresh ink rising out of its bottle and the quill gathering the ink on its tip then proceeding to write on the parchment in a language that Natsu and Happy couldn't read.
"Hmph"
Another line was written on the parchment after the spirit made its will know. Lucy then continued on.
"Canis minor, you are a spirit known for loyalty and companionship, I ask you this, will you lend it to me and in equal exchange I to you"
"Hmph"
Two more lines were added and as Lucy looked them over she smiled at the spirit who gave her its own.
"Thank you, I'm so grateful to have another spirit as a friend, let's continue."
"To summon a spirit, is to bring them to the material plane, but I do not wish to inconvenience you, so I ask when i may summon you and when I may not"
"Hmph"
Once again more lines were added, looking it over lucy grinned
"I'll be sure to keep these days in mind" lucy says before clearing her throat
"The contract is finished and is agreed upon by the summoner and the spirit"
"Hmph"
With that a new magic circle appears and from it a book emerges. They all watch as the newly formed contract floats toward the book which opens revealing 9 more pages, each one bearing a symbol correspondent with Lucy's keys. The contract attaches itself and the symbol of canis minor appears on it before the book closes and vanishes along with the magic circles.
"I have no idea what just happened but it all looked really cool" "aye"
"Thanks guys but that was just standard procedure for celestial summoners" Lucy says feeling embarrassed. She feels canis minor rub against her so she decides to pet him.
"Thanks"
So what was with the paper and weird book" natsu ask
"Well you see, a celestial summoner's contract relies on the promises made during its formation and the book you saw contains the contracts I have with each of my spirits. To us, our word is everything which is why i always make it my point to always keep my promises no matter what"
"That's really cool of you lucy" natsu says with admiration
"Thanks now one last thing, canis minor, do you mind if i gave you a name also you don't have to stay in this form if you don't want to"
"Hmph" they respond with a nod before they begin to glow.
They all watch as the regular sized dog shrinks to around the same size as happy. As the light fades, a small white furred creature stands there on two legs. It has a small tail and paw pads on its hands and feet and its horn is now on the center of its face making it look like a nose.
"Oh aren't you just adorable, come here plue" lucy says as she scoops the now named plue into a hug
"Whoa he changed shape" natsu exclaims in joyful surprise
"Yah, all celestial spirits are able to change their forms somewhat. Most take on a human or animal like appearance. The form you saw before was his true appearance." lucy informs them
"Plue? I thought his name was canis minor?" happy asks
"It is but plue is a nickname and he likes it" lucy says as plue nods his head
"Alright i've made my decision" natsu says standing up
"Lucy your gonna be part of our team"
"Your team?"
"Aye, even though everyone in the guild is allied together, some people who work well together form teams within the guild, that way jobs to hard for one person can be done by a team" happy tells her
"Thats awesome guys lets do it" lucy says as she and natsu high five
"So your gonna work with us?"
"yup you have my word"
At that statement natsu gets a mischievous grin on his face
"All right then lets get to work, i got our first job right here" natsu says while handing lucy the job request
"Wow it's all happening so fast," lucy says taking the paper "lets see, it's in shirotsume, ooo, 2,000 jewel just to steal a book from some rich guy name duke everlue, huh i think i heard that name before, wait, please note everlue is a dirty old man currently looking for maids with blonde …hair"
"Good thing we know a blond haired girl don't we"
"Yup and i bet we can find her a maid uniform"
"Why you sneaky little, THAT'S NOT FAIR YOU TWO TRICKED ME" lucy cries collapsing to the floor while plue comforts her
"Good thing celestial wizards never go back on their word, cause now your stuck with us" natsu says
"You tricked me" she yells again
"Oh lighten up, now try getting into character and address happy as master"
"NO WAY"
Moving away from this situation we find ourselves at the guild hall where a trio stand in front of the request board. This group consists of two guys and a blue haired girl who is significantly shorter than them. One of the men is wearing a purple shirt under a brown fur coat and fur lined top hat covering his orange hair while the other wears a white shirt with two yellow sashes across his chest while his hair lifts up like a flower. These two are jet and droy.
"Oh man, did some already take the book stealing gig" the blue haired girl asked. She wears white shorts, a blue crop top vest and an orange headband holding back her hair. This woman is Levy mcgarden. "That one paid 2000, i could've used that money"
Nearby mira responds with an answer, as she checks the ledger.
"Sorry looks like natsu and lucy got to it first"
"Don't despair it's probably for the best levy, the job's changed" makarov says from his place on the bar while gray sits next to him on a stool.
"What do ya mean?" levy questions
"I was just contacted by the client concerning the job"
"Oh did they cancel it" mira asks
" on the contrary, they've increased it, its now worth 200,000"
The number makes everyone flinch back in surprise.
"200,000 jewel" levy says shocked
"They'd pay that much just for some stupid book" droy states in astonishment
" that's the kind of pay you would get for taking monster fighting jobs" jet states
Mira turns to the master with concern who was smoking from his pipe. Such a change in the reward price is a cause for concern, it even caught grays attention.
"Did they give any reason why?"
"They did not, I found out about the change this morning when we received the new approved request from the guild league. As you all should know, all requests made to the guilds must be approved by the kingdom or the coalition, who dictate which ones are legal. While most are normally approved, requests of malicious intent against another citizen of the kingdom is prohibited. Stealing from Duke Everlue should have counted as one."
"Then why was it approved?" mira questioned
"If it was approved, it seems the coalition is invested in this request. I worry for what that may mean for natsu, lucy and happy. I'm sure they can handle it though."
"Seems like this job of theirs just got interesting '' Gray says, picking up his glass which begins to freeze and ice forms in the water. Mira looks towards him and gains a sweat drop
"Oh, gray, your clothes" she says, gesturing to his body
Gray looks down to see he's in his underwear. Freaking out and wondering where his clothes are, he begins to search as the others stare. "Dammit not again!"
On the road to Shirostume, a familiar carriage pulled by a purple boar trots along. Inside, Natsu is dying trying not to expel the contents of his stomach while happy stuffs his. Lucy is reading over the request before turning to ask Natsu a question she's been wondering about.
"Hey natsu, why'd you and happy decided to pick me to join your team. I'm still new to the guild after all."
"Ugg, well it's because your really nice y'know even if you are a bit weird, bleeghh, your our friend we like hanging out with you" natsu groans
'The fire eater and his talking cat think i'm the weird one' lucy thinks to herself be saying
"Well, thanks, i was kind of worried about what my first job as a guild mage would be, thought i was gonna have to do it alone with my spirits, also about the pay, do you guys mind if we split it 60 20 20?"
"You only want 20 percent?" happy says
"No, i'm the 60, i'm really strapped for cash guys and could really use it, especially after getting my apartment"
"Weren't you an independent mage?"
"OH uh, well ,you see, I uh took mostly minor jobs as an independent mage, yeah, they didn't pay much, just enough to get by before joining a guild, y'know" lucy stutters out
Happy notices how Lucy started stuttering when he asked what she did before joining the guild and was about to call her on it like he usually would when the carriage stopped. When it did natus to the chance to burst out and start kissing the ground with Lucy quickly falling. Happy follows as well, deciding to drop what he was gonna say. Lucy meanwhile is glad for the quick distraction by arriving in shirostume.
'I'm not sure if I want anyone to know yet, if at all actually' lucy thinks before paying the driver and following natsu and happy into town. Shirotsume is a moderate town with lively activity. Walking down its main road, Natsu is complaining about his hunger.
"Why don't you just eat your own fire?" lucy asked
"Does Not work like that from me, you wouldnt eat your spirits right"
"Of course not"
"Its like that, my fire has my magic signature which allows me to control my flames"
"Yah lucy lots of casters have that, it's common knowledge" happy added
"I guess as a summoner and a user of holder magic i've never really dealt with that" lucy said in thought.
From there, Natsu and happy decided to grab a bite to eat while lucy walks off saying shell meet them in a bit. A little bit later the two are chowing down.
"Be sure to save the fat stuff for Lucy," Natsu says while tearing into a chicken leg with his mouth full.
"Yhea, by the looks of her, that's what she likes the most" happy responds mouth also full
"Hold it right there cat, what's that supposed to mean" Lucy says walking up to the two.
"Hey," Natsu starts before noticing that Lucy was wearing a full maid uniform with her hair styled "Lucy?"
"O come on boys dont be shy, i know look super cute in this uniform" lucy says
Natsu and Happy quickly huddle and start whispering to each other.
"What do we do? We were joking about the costume but she took it literally!"
"I guess we're just gonna have to go along with it, don't say anything okay"
"I can hear you" lucy says in constrained anger as her eyebrow starts to twitch
"Besides even if you were joking it's a good idea anyway, i can get inside and steal the book with no one being suspicious"
"I was thinking we just bust in, take the book and beat up anyone in our way" natsu says with a straight face
Lucy facepalms "that is a terrible plan, mines better, anyway I found the clients home, lets go"
Arriving on the edge of town the three approach a large manor, and are then led inside to meet a gray haired man. Sitting inside a spacious room they take a seat as the man introduces himself as Kaby Melon.
"Melon!" "wow he has a tasty name"
Happy and natsu say starting to drool
"Don't be rude guys" lucy scolds
Mr Melon just laughs it of saying it happens a lot, while lucy has her own thoughts
'Why does his name sound familiar?"
"First things first allow me to tell you about the job," melon says " duke everlue has a book in his possession titled daybreak. I would like you to burn it for me"
"No problem" natsu says with a smile as he lights a flame on his finger
"I'll burn the whole place down if you want"
"Aye, he likes fire"
"Hold it, I'm not going to jail for arson because of you, jobs like this can surely backfire on us. Burning a book is one thing but burning a house down can get us arrested by the rune knights if we are caught. May i ask why we need to burn the book sir" lucy says
"For 2000 jewel who the heck cares" natsu states as lucy side eyes him
Mr melon decides to jump in and inform the trio the the reward is no longer 2000 but rather it is now 200,000.
"TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND?!" they yell in sync
"Im sorry, i thought you were aware that the amount had changed" Mr melon says
Natsu starts to freak out at the number
"200,000 split three ways! I stink at math but that's a lot!" natsu shouts
"I got it, I get 100,000, you get 100,000, and Lucy gets all the rest" happy shouts in excitement which angers lucy.
"Dam cat that leaves me with nothing!" lucy yells as she wacks the two in the head before the three calm down.
Lucy asks why he raised the reward and Mr melon says it just means that much to him. She wonders if that's really it as the trio leave, and natsu, who lit his head on fire in excitement, pulls her by the arm to complete the mission. As they leave Mr melon sits in thought as his wife sits next to him placing a hand on his shoulder.
'Daybreak, it can not be allowed to exist'
On the other side of shirotsume the trio find Duke Everlue's mansion. It's a large building with three stories surrounded by a wall fencing off the property. Lucy is currently approaching the building's gate while Natsu and Happy hide in the woods behind her, whispering at her to not screw up.
'OK be cool Lucy all you need to do is get in, find and burn a book, then collect 200,000 jewel' Lucy thinks while taking a few breaths before knocking on the gates door.
"Hello, excuse me but heard you had an opening for a maid position" she calls out hoping that a staff worker might hear her.
Almost immediately the cobbled road beside her begins to bulge and break as an incredibly large woman bust from the ground. This woman stands towering over Lucy wearing her own maids uniform while her short pink hair is tied in pigtails. The woman's appearance, without any words being minced, is rather ugly looking. Look at lucy with glaring eyes she speaks
"So you're a maid?" she questions as lucy responds with a meek "yah"
"I assume you're here because of the ad master placed in the paper?"
Before Lucy has a chance to respond another figure bursts from the ground. This one is actually smaller than lucy. The figure is a stout fat man dressed in a suit with a rose pinned to it. He has pointed ears, a triple chin, a small patch of comed hair, long nose hairs creating a mustache. The man gives off a gross greasy vibe when Lucy sees him.
"Boyoyoy, did i hear someone say master" the man says as he twirls his nose hair.
'More like monster, this is probably everlue. ' lucy thinks as she puts on a nice face, while taking in his appearance.
'I've seen this man before but from where?'
"Lets see," everlue says as he stares at lucy with a creepy face. After 10 seconds of staring, Everlue promptly turns his back to lucy.
"Ill pass, now scram ugly" he says
The words were like a knife in her chest as the mane absolutely killed the nerves Lucy had been working up. She was the grabbed by the back of her clothes by the large maid who decides to add salt to the wound, or rather another knife
"You heard the man, now get going ugly"
As she was held off the ground Everlue speaks again
"Sorry but a man of my standing has certain standards to uphold"
With that said four more tall ugly maids burst from the ground and surround Everlue and start complimenting him to Lucy's disgusted shock.
"You see i only surround myself with only the fairest of the fair,"
"Now run along home UGLY" one of the maids says to her
That was the third knife that just about killed Lucy's confidence as she was let go and walked all the way to where natsu and happy were hiding.
"Just couldn't do it could you" natsu says as lucy leans against a tree and slides down in depression.
"I tried but that idiot wouldn't know beauty if it bit him in the behind" she cried
"Well guess it's time to resort to plan T" natsu says
Lucy with a new found vigor fueled by anger jumps up with him.
"Yhea that jerk has to pay, wait, what's plan T?"
"Its plan Taken by storm" happy's cheers
"That's not a plan" lucy yells
As the trio form a new plan they fail to notice a floating crystal ball above them with six runes inscribed on to it. Within a dark room in his mansion, duke everlue sits while peering through a mirror with the same runes as the crystal ball inscribed round its frame. The runes allow everlue to see through the crystal ball as the image is projected in his mirror. Manipulating the mirror he zooms in on Lucy's hand before speaking.
"It seems we have a few wizards at our door as these ones are from fairy tail. Be sure to find out what it is there after instead of killing them first like you did the last ones. I'm paying you good money after all."
Behind him two figures are covered in shadow. After hearing Everlue speak they get up and leave the room.
On top of the mansion roof, Natsu Lucy and Happy are breaking in. Lucy made the new plane to sneak through the roof with Happy flying them up and Natsu melting the window with heat from his palm.
"Geez, this isn't exactly taking them by storm you know" natsu says in a grumpy voice that exacerbated lucy " we should have just busted in through the front door"
"I told you i'm not going jail, honestly with how much destruction fairy tail causes how are you not more worried"
"Waddaya mean?" Natsu ask confused.
"Seriously?" lucy says " Ok, let me spell it out, our job is to steal the book from everlue and burn it, who can bring charges against us for breaking and entering, but if we burn the book and don't get caught there's no real evidence. Public destruction like destroying his house can cause us to be arrested by the rune knights who work for the magic council. Despite the country being ruled by the monarchy the magic council is the main government and they don't usually deal with minor stuff, but destroying a mansion of a rich nobel is on the level they deal with. Now let's go"
Stepping through the window Lucy enters while Natsu looks at her even more confused.
"The heck is she talking about, we've never been arrested for destroying some stuff on a mission" he says looking at happy
"She's kind of right though, natsu, we've never been arrested but you know how we never get the full reward? It's because you usually destroy a lot of things plus the master is always yelling about how the council is mad at him."
"I still don't see the problem, we completed those jobs but those people were just jerks for not giving us the full reward" natsu says as he follows lucy in while happy just sighs
Making their way through the different rooms of the mansion the trio search for there target. Many of the rooms are basic, well basic enough for a vain rich man, but they dont find any books. A room lucy checked was a lavish bathroom that had a gold toilet with everlues face on it. Lucy nearly threw up at the sight. As they snuck through the hall, Natsu wondered if they were going to have to search the whole place and wanted to take a hostess and force them to tell the trio where the book was. Happy agreed.
"The whole point is not to be seen, you dummy. Gotta be stealthy, like those ninjas from the eastern content" lucy says
Hearing that they had to act like ninjas, natsu and happy got excited but before they had a chance to do anything else the four ugly maids from earlier burst out of the floor calling them intruders followed by the large pink haired maid. Acting quickly, Natsu punched the four maids with a flaming fist while screaming "NINJA POWER" in a very un-ninja way. He knocked them from the second floor stairway to the first floor as they were all in a large open hall that had a giant statue of everlue in the middle.
The giant maid managed to doge natsu before belly flopping on top of him in an attempt to crush him. "Maid virgo attack" the now named virgo yells.
Natsu, using surprising strength managed to lift Virgo in the air and a throw her. He then attacked with a flaming kick and sent her into the ground in front of the everlue statue. It seemed Natsu had also wrapped his scarf around his head like a mask.
"We mustn't let ourselves be discovered, we are ninja"
"A little late for that, ninjas are supposed to be quiet guys" lucy sighs
Quickly moving on to the next rooms, the trio are finally able to find a library. It's a very big room and hundreds of books line the shelves. They immediately begin to comb the shelves as Lucy wonders how they're going to find one book in all of this. Natsu and Happy are getting distracted by a picture book.
"Check out this one its all sparkly" nastsu says as he holds out a yellow book
"Will you get serious and start looking for the book we need" lucy says before noticing the title of the book in natsu's hand
"Wait a sec, Natsu you found it!" lucy cheers "200,000 jewel here we come"
"Lets spark it up" natsu says as he lights his hand before lucy rips the book from him
"Hold it natsu" lucy says in a quick voice as she looks at the book and reads the authors name
"I didn't realize this was written by kemu zeleon"
"Zela who?"
"Zeleon was a great wizard and amazing novelist, i was a huge fan of his, i've read all his works so this must be an unpublished novel" lucy explains 'why would evelue have this'
"Who cares all burns the same to me" natsu says
"Don't you dare this is a great work of literature"
"What about our mission" happy says
"The fact that it's by kemu zeleon means there's more to this mission that it seems' 'Lucy begs as the two approach to burn the book.
Just before they do everlue pops up through the floor. This man does not seem to care about using actual doors huh.
"What have we here, its seems that thieves are trying to pilfer daybreak from me, boyoyo"
"See slowpoke, this is your fault" natsu says
"Heh, sorry" lucy says bashfully
"Don't you think it would've been simpler to come through the door" happy says
Ignoring the comments everlue focuses on the group and the book in lucys hands.
"I knew all you lowlife wizards have been coming around to steal something of mine, never would of guessed it be that stupid book"
"Stuipd?"natsu whisper as lucy clutches the book closer to her
'This book must be important if the client is willing to pay so much to destroy it, why would everlue call it stuipd if it was written by kemu zeleon, hmmm' lucy thinks to herself as she tries to connect the pieces of this strange puzzle. She decides to try and use this to their favor.
"That's great, if its so stupid you wouldnt mind if we keep it, kay" lucy says in a happy tone. Everlue doesn't like that as he seems to explode in rage.
"ITS MINE, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT SO GET YOUR PAWS OFF IT" he yells
"Greedy pig" lucy mumbles
"Shut your trap ugly"
Oh look at that, the knife in Lucy's chest is back again.
"Lucy hand over the book and let me burn it already" natsu says
"No"
"LUCY this out JOB" natsu says in anger
"HEMMM Fine, at least let me read it first" she says as she sits down and opens to the first page.
"You're gonna read it now?!" natsu happy and everlue say in shock
"Ive had enough how dare you put your filthy hands on my possessions, now come fourth vanish brothers" everlue says as two bookcases slide open to reveal a doorway.
Standing there are two men, one tall and the other short. The tall man is wearing a blue jacket and orange headband keeping his dark hair behind him and the other wears a white jacket with his hair pulled back into a braid. On his back is what looks like a large frying pan. One bother there arms is a patch with a symbol on it. It looks like an S with a wolf head over it. Happy is able to recognize it.
"That sign, these guys are from the southern wolves, a mercenary guild based in Minstrel!" he says
"So you got bodyguards do yah" natsu says as he gears up for an inevitable fight
As this is going on lucy has gotten quite a few pages in and has noticed something strange about the book.
"Natsu try and hold these gus off for a while, i'm not sure yet but this book holds some sort of secret and need to find out what"
"Right" natsu replies as lucy rushes out of the room
Hearing lucy's words everlue becomes intrigued
'A secret, i could have missed it but the book is mine which means the secret is mine, who knows it could be a treasure map of some kind'
Activating his magic everlue shrinks into the floor, issuing an order to the brothers while leaving
"I'M going after the girl, make sure pink hair doesn't leave here in one piece"
"Yes sir" the brothers reply
"Happy go and help lucy" natsu says as he begins to stretch
"You sure you don't need me here"
"Nope i'll be just fine"
Happy quickly sprouts his wing and flies from the room to catch up with lucy
The brothers let him focusing on natsu
"Sure talk big for a little guy" the tall brother says
"Maybe we should put him in his place" the small brother replies
"You are a fire wizard, yes"
"yah, how did you know" natsu questions
"We saw the fire around your legs when you fought virgo" tall brother replies
"Though it's obvious your a caster type wizard"
The observation is correct as natsu's magic come from him internally and he cast spells directly from his body. Lucy on the other hand is a holder type, while she has internal magic like natsu she uses outside objects like her keys to use magic.
Natsu is not worried that they know what type of mage he is as he takes his fighting stance and lights his whole body in flame before pulling it around hs fist.
"So i guess you know what happens when you play with fire,you get burned" natsu yells as he leaps forward to hit the small brother.
Unfortunately, the small brother blocks the attack with his large pan. Natsu watches as his fire seems to be drawn into hit and disappear. Swinging the pan and kicking natsu way the small brother comments on how fighting fire wizards is their specialty. The tall brother then leaps into the air above natsu, coming down with an axe kick breaking the floor and forcing natsu to doge in a handspring. As natsu is in the middle of the motion the small brother swoops hits tasu withthe pan full force, launching him through the door and into the main hall. Despite the pain natsu rights himself mid air to land on the giant everlue statue. Catching his breath natsu looks up to see the brothers leaning on the second floor rail.
"Fairy tail may be a big time guild and all but you pathetic wizards are no match for trained mercenaries, like us" tall brother states
Hah, if that's your best then you're dead wrong" natsu laughs which pisses of tall brother
"This kid really thinks he can beat us!?"
"Do you happen to know what wizards' greatest weakness is?" small brother asks natsu
"don't tell me you're talking about motion sickness" natsu freaks out causing the brothers to sweat drop and get even more pissed.
"Uh, i think that may be more of a personal problem"
"Is he making fun of us?!"
Small brother jumps from the rail to attack natsu as he explains the weakness of wizards.
"The weakness is their bodies. Since wizards have to focus so intensely on honing their magical abilities…" he starts as he destroyed the part of the statue wear natsu was standing before he dodged.
"..They neglect to train their bodies which leaves them physically weak" tall brother says as he rushes Natsu from the side, slamming his fist and destroying the wall as Natsu once again doges. Leaping to the middle of the room, Natsu stances up as the brothers fall in side by side and finish their explanation.
"On the other hand we've focused on our physical abilities, which means we have more speed and power than you"
"Oh im sooo scared, now stop your blabbing and lets dance" natsu mocks
"Hmm, hey bro combo attack" "Let's do it ''
The small brother holds his pan out flat while the tall brother jumps on top.
"Heaven and earth annihilation" they say together
"bring it on" natsu urges
Underneath the mansion, Lucy was somehow able to find a way into the sewer system. Using one of her personal magic items, Lucy is rapidly speeding through the book. With her wind reader glasses, a pair of reading glasses that have been enchanted to allow the user to read at mind-boggling speed but still retain understanding of what was read, Lucy has come to understand what secret was hidden within daybreak.
"That's amazing, I knew this book held some sort of secret"
Continuing to read the last pages, the words and letters seem to float off the page and while distracted, Lucy fails to notice the wall behind her burst open. Sticking halfway out the wall everlue has restrained lucy arms behind her back
"Well then please share, secrets don't make great friends you know" Everlue says menacingly
"No way a man like you doesn't deserve to know what it is" Lucy grit out "you're an enemy of literature and I also remembered where I know you from. An ugly pig of a man who thinks he's better than others and even had the nerve to make a scene at the princess's fifth birthday ball!"
As Lucy struggles to break free, Everlue glares as he remembers the event Lucy was talking about.
"How do you know about that, it happened six years ago and was a private event."
"A private event that you weren't invited to! As a recall, you barged in making a scene, whining about how you did not receive an invite, then proceeded to openly bad mouth the king and the princess and prop up your illusions of grandeur"
"You shut your mouth tramp, the monarchy should have been glad I showed up at all, to be graced by my presence is a thing of wonders!"
"Wonders? HAH, the only reason you were able to do such a thing in the first place was because King Toma was busy trying to settle the princess because you stormed in and ruined her party"
"That little brat is over pampered, I did her a favor by taking the attention and putting on someone more deserving"
"The only thing you deserved was the right hook Lord Heartfilia gave you when you tried to approach the king. You were laid out on the court like a sack of shit before being washed away by a wave of water and into the gutter. Greatest thing however was jokes that spawned within nobel circles for months afterwards"
As Lucy talked, Everlue grew more and more furious. The veins in his head pulsing as he tried to tighten his grip and make her squeal, but lucy would not.
"Isn't that right Everlue or would you prefer your other name? Duke loo, lord of the outhouse!"
"AAGGGHH, I'll break your arms you insolent bitch!" everlue screamed
Natsu stood still as he witnessed the vanish brothers combo attack. With a yell small brother launches tall brother into the air forcing natsu to look up, before he darts forward spinning himself with acrobatic movement delivering a strong hit to natsu with the pan.
"Look towards heaven and we strike from the earth.."
Flying back, Natsu manages to get a hand on the ground, stopping himself in a crouch, then jumping to the side with his focus on the small brother. But with his attention there, tall brother comes down from the air, brings his foot down on Natsu's back. Slamming him into the ground, breaking the floor and kicking up dust covering natsu's form.
"..Look towards earth and we strike from heaven"
"You have witnessed the true power of the vanish brothers, the heaven and earth annihilation technique"
"It's a force very few are able to survive"
As the dust clears natsu can be seen standing tall as he looks on with disinterest which shocks the brothers
"Guess i'm one of the few, sorry guys"
"No way" they say in unison as sweat begins to form on their faces.
"Now i'm gonna blow you away" natsu says as he positions his hands like a funnel in front of his mouth
"FIRE DRAGON'S ROAR"
As the breath attack rushes towards the brothers they gain some confidence back, reminding natsu that fire does not work. Small brother blocks the attack with the pan explaining that his pan absorbs fire attacks that he can send back with twice the power. Spinning the pan around his body he expels a blast of fire from the pan which explodes around natsu. Thinking they've won they say goodbye to the cooked fairy believing they've killed him. Now as natsu told lucy earlier, he is unable to eat his own flames but despite the fact that the flames came from him, the act of absorbing then relighting the fire removed natsu magic signature.
From within the flames the brothers watch as natsu sucks up and eats the flames, causing the two to completely freak out.
"Oh yhea, now i've got a fire in my belly" natsu says slamming his fist together as a magic circle appears around him. The brothers watch as long columns of fire flow and spiral from natsu arms. Jumping into the air and throwing his arms behind him, the fire flows every which way like giant whips of fire.
"FIRE DRAGON WING ATTACK"
Throwing his arms forward, Natsu lets the fire loose and in doing so a massive explosion occurs. The walls become scorched and as the winds explode outwards releasing smoke into the air. Even from the edge of town all the citizens hear a massive explosion and see plumes of smoke coming from the everlue mansion. Inside the building the brothers lay on the ground heavily burnt but still alive. Natsu looks around at the damage.
"Uh oh, did i overdo it gain"
And theres the third chapter done
this chapter and the next will of course focus on the day break arc with the next few focusing on lullaby. lullaby is where things will really pick up as we start hitting the important arcs but these first chapters are all mostly set up for the more major change to come.

first added a little more to the process of celestial spirits and the contract formation
second a little bit of lucy's history as well as everlues, with the princess's birthday party.
