Chapter 3: Sad Goodbyes

Marie

Marie woke up on the last day of her honeymoon, her husband still slumbering beside her. Their hotel bed was messed up, in a VERY good way, and Marie sighed in contentment as she kissed Denki's lips. Even after a week with her sight back, the sight of his body still surprised her, his shoulders were broader, and his muscles more defined than she had pictured, and she never imagined the black streaks in his blonde hair would look like lightning bolts. She also saw his scars, earned during the Paranormal Liberation Front War, and the ensuing battles against All For One and Shigaraki Tomura. She liked his scars, they reminded her that he was a man, not a boy; and a strong Hero to stand beside.

Marie then looked down at her own body, and her own scars. She never admitted this to anyone else, but she was vain. If she had to name her worst flaw, it was her pride in her body's appearance. She had worked hard for years in diets and exercise to gain the strong and athletic physique she had, and seeing her own skin marred with scars affected her, made her feel…ugly. But then, she thought of all her times with the man laying beside her, and knew that he had chosen her, and stayed by her despite it, and her doubts left her mind. She turned her head and saw the clock and yelled, "OH SHIT!"

"WHAT!?" Denki yelled in English at the same time Marie jumped out bed, "The plane leaves in two hours! We gotta go now!" she yelled at him in Japanese, and Denki yelled, "Damn! So much for breakfast!" as he got up as well and they hurriedly got dressed in their last set of clean clothes and packed everything they would need. Most of their large furniture and important documents were already in America waiting for them, luckily.

After packing up and doing the bare minimum of making themselves presentable, Denki pulled out his main vehicle, a special electricity powered hoverboard designed by Hatsume Mei, it was a sleek black little number with white lightning bolts and music notes on the underside for decoration. They signed out of the hotel in record time and hopped onto the hoverboard, putting on goggles and strapping their feet in before Denki used his electricity to power up the hoverboard. One minute later, they were blasting through the air, heading for the airport. Below them people saw Chargebolt and Wolfheart soaring through the air with some of the kids cheering as they watched either or both of their favorite heroes.

"Are you ready for this?" Marie asked her husband, "Take a good look at your home, babe. It will be a while before we can come back." Denki gave her a thumbs up, but still looked down and waved to their fans one last time. They landed in front of the airport and almost tripped before they remembered to unstrap their feet from the hoverboard they were in such a rush. The check through felt like it was taking forever, but it was only fifteen minutes. Once they were through, they spotted their family waiting for them.

"Do you have everything? Clothes, food, underwear?"

"Did you remember your special comb?"

"You got your tickets?"

Denki managed to pull out their tickets then and Marie quickly said, "Yes, yes, and yes, we got everything!" Their parents backed up a little to give them space, and all of them, the older Kaminari couple and Nemuri looked at the newlyweds. Mrs. Kaminari went to her son and took his hands, "I'm so proud of everything that you've accomplished, son. You faced horrible challenges, and you always rose to meet them. And I know that you are strong enough to face anything that happens to you in America." Mr. Kaminari put a hand on Denki's shoulder and told him, "You better take care of yourself, son. America's one crazy place to live in."

Denki smiled and wrapped an arm around Marie, "That's what my wife's for, to help me adjust to all the crazy parts." Marie laughed a little, and then Nemuri and Joey went to Marie. Nemuri took Marie's hands and said, "We never had enough time, my daughter. I did all I could for you in the time we had. I thought I would be more ready for this. But now its here, and you are going home. Take care of yourselves, okay?" Nemuri took Denki's hand as she said this and looked at her son-in-law with all the feelings of a proud mother and teacher.

Joey didn't say much, he just wrapped them in a hug and held them tightly. "You've really been working out, Joey-chan," Denki wheezed as before he let them go.

"OOOOOOIIIIIIIIIII!"

Everyone turned and saw as Mirko jumped over a crowd of people, her artificial leg and arms shining. The Rabbit Heroine had her ever cocky grin on her face as she landed near the family. "You trying to leave before saying goodbye to me, Rookie? I'm hurt," Mirko told her former sidekick with a loving punch to the shoulder. "I'm sorry, Mirko-san," Marie apologized, "But we were barely here in time! We woke up late."

Mirko smiled and winked at Denki, "I bet, making a nest of kits, making sure there's some new rookies for me to whip into shape."

"I hope not too soon," Marie quietly said, looking away as her husband blushed and Nemuri and Mirko laughed. Marie looked at her former mentor and lifted her hand. Mirko grasped it and Marie said, "I never would have survived if you hadn't help make me stronger, Mirko-san. I will never forget that." They had to cut the goodbye's short as the airport intercom went off, "Flight 634 departing for Charleston International Airport now boarding. Flight 634 departing for Charleston International Airport now boarding." Marie and Denki waved their family and former mentor goodbye and headed off, thankfully the line wasn't too crazy as they made their way to their seats in First Class.

Marie took the window and watched as she saw her little brother waving the plane and her goodbye and she waved back at him, her Mom, and Japan. "We'll be back for Christmas," Denki reminded her as he watched the ground shrink in the window. "I know," Marie said, "But right now, that seems a long time away."

Joey

Joey watched his sister and brother-in-law's plane as it shrank over the sky, and couldn't help but feel like a piece of him was leaving with it. He had always known that Marie would go back to America one day, Japan may have been where she lived, learned, and ultimately became the Number 12 Ranked Hero, but America was always home for her. She often had a sad look on her face whenever him, Nemuri, or Marie made an American dish from their late Grandma's cookbook, like she was remembering home. And, Denki was like the older brother he never had; along with the rest of the old Class 1-A, it had been like he had gained fourteen older brothers and 6 older sisters when Marie had joined U.A. High.

"They'll be home for Christmas, Joey, you know that," Nemuri reminded him. She had a confident smile on her face, but it was clear that there were tears behind the smile. "Come on, you need to get ready for your own Entrance Exam in 2 days," she reminded him. Joey nodded and looked at the sky, and thought, or prayed, Just watch me, Mom, Dad, I'm going to make you just as proud as Marie.
