I don't want my Hermione to be like the original Hermione, I want her to be smart still, but more independent and not as obsessed with studying. I also want to clarify that this isn't a time travel story, Hermione is born in this time period. Sorry if it was difficult reading the first chapter, but something happened when I posted and the lines that were supposed to be separate parts disappeared, so I'll try to fix it. I'll try to post as often as I can, so it might not be consistent because this is more of a side project, but enjoy! (and if you actually read this, thank you!)

Hermione woke up at 7:00 and looked around at her roommates who were all still asleep. She quietly got out of bed and got dressed, before she went down to the Great Hall for breakfast. There were a few Ravenclaws and Slytherins, not much Hufflepuff, but no Gryffindors. Hermione grabbed some toast and jam and began to eat, while the Great Hall slowly began to fill with all houses. Soon enough, chattering filled the room, while Hermione sat down reading her book. Some Ravenclaws around Hermione tried to make conversation with her, but soon gave up after hearing her one worded answers. Hermione looked up when she realized the hall was silent, except for the screeching of a very familiar voice. She turned around to see a howler in front of Sirius Black, while he covered his head with his hands. Hermione turned back to her book, but before she went back to reading, she secretly swished her wand and the howler went up in flames. Everyone soon went back to their conversations and Hermione stood up and left the hall. She could hear footsteps behind her and she quickly turned around to find her brother.
"Good morning Mia!" Alexander said cheerfully.
"Good morning Alex… Do you need something," Hermione asked suspiciously.
"Can a brother not say hello to his little sister?" he said with a smile.
Hermione narrowed her eyes, before he sighed.
"Honestly Mia, I just wanted to check on you. It is your first day after all."
"Well I can't really tell you anything seeing that I haven't even gone to one class, the one class that I will be late to if I keep standing here." she said annoyed.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed," he joked, before turning serious,"Hermione, you know you can come to me for anything, right?"
"I know, I know." she said, waving him off, "I better go, I don't want to be late to my first class."
Hermione quickly hugged her brother and walked away. Alexander frowned at her retreating form before going to his first class.

Severus POV:
Severus walked into the potions classroom and took a seat in the back. He watched as the class slowly filled up, then Professor Slughorn came in and told them to partner up and begin. Severus looked around, inwardly groaning; he would rather be partnered with a Slytherin than with a Ravenclaw, not that he had anything against Ravenclaws, seeing that they were the second best house in his opinion, he just didn't want to be stuck in a one sided conversation. His eyes landed on a curly haired girl who sat in the back alone, she had all her equipment set up and already collected all the ingredients.
"Mr…" a voice directed towards him said.
"Severus Snape," he told the teacher.
"Do you have a partner Mr. Snape?"
"No sir."
Professor Slughorn looked around and his eyes landed on the girl.
"You." He said going up to the girl.
The girl looked up at him,
"It seems as if you don't have a partner, you will partner up with Mr. Snape."
The girl looked at him and nodded.
"Well better get started!" he said cheerfully before walking away.
The girl looked at him and turned back to her table, Severus took that as a sign to move his stuff to her table.
"You stir and I will cut." The girl instructed.
He nodded, not wanting to argue over something pointless.
They both worked silently except when she would occasionally remind him which way to stir. They quickly finished and she bottled the potion and left it at the front of their table, she pulled out a book and began to read, without sparing him a glance. Severus looked around and noticed that they were the first pair finished, he looked at the others potions and quickly realized that they had probably made the best potion out of the whole class. Professor Slughorn came up to them and began to praise them on their potion.
"Well done Mr. Snape and Miss.." he said looking expectantly.
"Hermione Dagworth-Granger."
"DAGWORTH-GRANGER!? You wouldn't happen to be related to Hector Dagworth-Granger, would you?"
"He's my father sir." She said looking straight in his eyes.
"Well that makes much sense, this sleeping draught is perfect, I might just give the rest to the hospital wing!" he announced jovially.
"Or it might be that we just followed the instructions," Hermione muttered quietly, Severus barely heard her.
He suppressed a smile as Slughorn continued praising her father at an annoyed looking Hermione.
"15 points to Ravenclaw and Slytherin each!" he exclaimed, before walking away. The girl packed her bag and was about to leave when she stopped in front of him.
"I would suggest reading the next few chapters of the textbook before next class."
She looked at him for a few moments before turning around and leaving. Severus looked at her retreating form before thinking to himself to learn more about the girl.

Hermione POV:
Hermione took a seat in the back of the Transfiguration classroom and made sure she had her textbook, parchment, and quill. She was excited for Transfiguration, seeing that she had read several books on the subject and couldn't wait to begin. The class quickly filled up and as everyone settled in, Professor McGonagall came in and began to speak.
"Welcome to Transfiguration everyone." she said warmly, "now we will begin on learning the theory of Transfiguration."
Hermione began to take notes as she continued speaking, when the door flew open and two boys tumbled in.
"Sorry we're late.." the one with glasses said breathlessly, "there was an incident."
McGonagall narrowed her eyes at them before speaking.
"Seeing that is the first day, I'll excuse you this time, but do not let it happen again."
The boys nodded and sat on the floor.
"Mr. Black and Mr. Potter, what are you doing!"
"There's no more seats, so we might as well sit on the floor," said Black, smiling.
"There are two seats in the back next to Miss. Dagworth-Granger." she said pointing.
Sirius, hearing the last name, quickly turned his head around and grinned at Hermione, who had her head in her hands, silently groaning. He quickly stood up and led, more like dragged, James to the back. He plopped down on the seat next to her and began to stare at her, as she tried to ignore him.
"Hey," Sirius whispered. "Remember me."
Hermione kept writing.
"I know you can hear me." he said, poking her with his quill.
She tightened her grip on her quill, but continued taking notes.
Sirius looked at James, who was silently laughing at the interaction, and kicked him.
"OW!" he cried, which sent him a glare from McGonagall.
"What's with you kicking me." he angrily whispered.
Sirius went back to ignoring him and went back to trying to get Hermione's attention.
Finally Hermione turned to Sirius and glared at him. If looks could kill, Sirius would be dead and then revived and then killed again. He just grinned at her and was about to speak when Hermione raised her hand high.
"Yes, Miss Dagworth-Granger," Professor McGonagall said, looking at her.
"I'm so sorry to interrupt your interesting lesson, but unfortunately these two boys keep bothering me and won't let me give you my full attention." she said, smiling sweetly.
McGonagall returned the smile, before glaring at Sirius and James who slunk down in their seats.
" and , since it seems that you do not know how to not disrupt my class, I expect a 2 foot essay by next class on what we covered in class today."
" ," she said to a nervous looking Peter, "Switch seats with Miss Dagworth-Granger."
Hermione smiled at the protesting boys, before grabbing her stuff and sitting next to Lupin.
Class passed quickly without any interruptions, except for a few remarks coming from two annoyed boys. Hermione was about to leave, when an apologetic Remus Lupin came up to her.
"I'm sorry about them," nodding his head to Sirius and James.
"It's not your fault," she said to him, "but can you tell Black to leave me alone."
Remus glanced at Sirius, who had begun to walk over.
"Yes, I can." turning back to Hermione, "Again, I'm sorry."
She nodded before walking away.
"REMUS! What did you say to her? Was she talking about me? Did you mention how amazing I am?" Sirius asked excitingly.
"I apologized for yours and James' actions."
"Hey! I didn't do anything to her." James protested, "it's all Sirius' fault, now thanks to him…" glaring at Sirius, "I have to write an essay on the first day."
Both Sirius and Remus ignored him.
"Sirius," Remus said, turning back to him.
"Yes!" he asked, his eyes excited.
"I don't think you'll ever get to marry her." he said smirking at Sirius' confused expression, "She told me to tell you to leave her alone."
Sirius threw his head back laughing, "She'll have to do more than that for me to leave her alone."
"Well at this rate, I'll be surprised if you even get her to look at you without glaring." Remus commented.
"Don't worry, I bet by Yule break, she'll have a crush on me."
"I might just take you up on that." offered James.
"Fine, 5 galleons that she has a crush on me by Yule."
James agreed and they shook on it.

Hermione POV:
Hermione quickly ate her lunch and went to the library. When she entered, she found a table to set her stuff down and browsed the shelf, occasionally picking up a book. 2 hours quickly passed by and she ended up being late to Charms, due to getting into an argument with Madam Prince over how many books she could check out. She quickly sat down next to a Hufflepuff girl who smiled at her before turning back to Professor Flitwick.
"Today we'll be going over the levitation spell," began Flitwick, "the incantation is Wingardium Leviosa"
"Wingardium Leviosa," the class repeated.
"Good, now the wand movement is a swish and flick." he said, showing them with his wand.
"Now you have the rest of class to practice on these feathers."
The feathers were passed and the class began to practice.
Hermione, having previously studied and practiced the wand movements and incantation, did it on her 5th try. Professor Flitwick hopped excitedly and awarded her 10 points for being the first one to successfully make her feather float. The girl next to Hermione was struggling on making her feather levitate, so Hermione offered to help.
"It's WinGARdium LeviOsA, not Wingardium LevioSaR, make the gar nice and long, with a smooth swish and a short flick." she instructed.
The girl listened to Hermione's advice and after a few tries, finally got the feather floating over their heads.
"I'm Mary McDonald." the girl introduced, offering her hand.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Hermione Dagworth-Granger." Hermione said, shaking her hand.
"You were the hat-stall, weren't you?" Mary asked,
Hermione sighed, before speaking, "Yes, I was."
"Did I say something wrong?" the blonde girl said with a worried look.
"No, no, it's just your the 6th person that asked me this."
Mary laughed, "I'm sorry, but being a hat-stall makes you an interesting person."
"The only reason I was a hat-stall was because I was arguing with the hat."
Mary laughed harder, "Arguing with a hat?! What were you arguing about?!"
"Well the hat was taking too long and not speaking at all, so I just told it to sort me already and it got mad, I basically sorted myself."
Mary stopped laughing and tilted her head, "Can you even sort yourself?"
"I guess so, I told the hat what house I would like to be in best, because it said that I could be in any house."
"You could suit any house?!" she exclaimed, "no wonder you were a hat-stall! Usually a hat-stall is between only 2 houses, not all 4!"
"You don't need to tell the whole class," Hermione half whispered.
"Sorry," pausing for a few moments, "Hermione."
"Yes?"
"Would you like to be friends?" Mary asked nervously,
"Would I like to.. Of course I would like to be friends, Mary! You're a wonderful and sweet person, I would very much like to."
"You would be my first friend at Hogwarts." Mary confessed.
"You would be my first friend ever." Hermione countered.
"Didn't you ever meet the other pure-blood children?
"Well I probably met a few when I was very young, but I don't remember them. My father has been very protective ever since my mother passed away, so I didn't go to any social events." she explained
"Oh, I'm so sorry for bringing up sad memories." Mary apologized.
"No, it's fine. I don't remember much, she died when I was 4."
Hermione looked at her watch, "I'd better go to my next class, but we can meet up in the library after school to study if you'd like."
Mary brightened up, "Yes, I'd like that, I'll meet you there!"
Hermione and Mary parted ways, both of them smiling at the thought of having a new friend.

The Marauders POV:
Remus walked with James, Sirius, and Peter to Defense Against the Dark Arts(DADA), Sirius was talking about her again, her being Hermione Dagworth-Granger. Remus figured she was smart since she was in Ravenclaw, but after he heard whispering from other classes, Remus was starting to think that she was smarter than he originally thought. He overheard some Slytherins talking about how she and Snivellous had completed the potion first and Slughorn had even told them that it was perfect, good enough for the hospital wing; also some Hufflepuffs had told him that she was the first to get her feather to float in Charms and she had gotten it on her 5th try, whereas he had gotten it on his 20th try. He was curious to see how she would do in DADA.
Sirius was excited for DADA for only one reason, Hermione Dagworth-Granger. He didn't know why, but something about her made him extremely intrigued and he wanted to get to know her. He thought of many reasons of why she would ignore him: one reason was because of his mother's treatment, but she seemed not to care anymore; Sirius, being the cocky pureblood that he was, also thought another reason that she ignored him was because he was so unbelievably handsome and she didn't know what to say to him, so she just ignored him. According to Remus, she was ignoring him because he was a menace, but Sirius just waved him off.
James didn't know why Sirius was so "obsessed" with the Dagworth-Granger girl, but he supported his new friend completely. If Sirius wanted to watch the girl, then James would go with him to watch the girl, if Sirius wanted to annoy the girl, he would be more than happy to annoy her, if he wanted to talk to the girl, then he would do anything in his power to get the girl to talk to him. Although James was happy to support his friend, he was annoyed that she had gotten him in trouble with Sirius, even though he hadn't said a word to her. He was already planning on how to get back at her, without Sirius' knowledge of course.
Peter listened to Sirius talk about the girl that he knew little about. He knew that Sirius was interested in her, although he didn't know why. When he asked, Sirius had told him it was because she had insulted his mother and continued to talk joyously about his mothers face during the whole interaction and how angry she was during the rest of the day. Peter knew that it was more than just that, but he didn't want to say anything to lose his new friends. When they had gotten to the DADA classroom, Sirius sprinted when he saw the girl, while he, James, and Remus all watched him get blatantly ignored. When he came back, James and Remus openly laughed, while Peter just offered words of encouragement.

Hermione POV:
Hermione tried paying attention to what Professor Vance was saying, but was having trouble due to the small wads of paper being thrown at her. Finally, being fed up with the growing pile of crumpled paper at her table, she opened one of the papers.
"Meet up after class? - S.O.B"
Hermione sighed before scribbling a note and passing it to Remus, who passed it to Sirius. Sirius excitingly opened the note, to only frown after reading it.
"If it is to help you get it through your head that I don't want to speak to you, then yes, if not, then no. - Hermione Dagworth-Granger"
A moment later, Remus passed a note to Hermione, she rolled her eyes, but opened the note.
"A lame excuse just to see my beautiful face. - S.O.B"
Hermione crumbled the note just to have another note thrown at her head. She turned around and glared at the grinning boy, before raising her hand. Sirius' grin quickly dropped and he scribbled on a piece of paper and passed it to Remus worriedly. Remus sighed, tired of being an owl, and passed it to Hermione, who ignored it and continued raising her hand.
"Yes, Miss Dagworth-Granger." asked Professor Vance.
Hermione smiled sweetly at him before speaking, "I'm sorry for interrupting your lesson sir, but unfortunately seems that throwing papers at my head is more important than your lesson and has decided to attempt to distract me from learning."
Professor Vance turned to Sirius, "Is this true ?"
"I.. I was most definitely not throwing papers.. well, I mean I was.. what I mean is sir…." stuttered Sirius.
"I think I have my answer." he turned back to Hermione and smiled.
"I'm sorry that he has been bothering you Miss Dagworth-Granger."
" ," Vance said looking at a nervous Sirius Black, "Since you obviously did not think that this lesson was wo rth listening to, you are to write 2 feet on today's lesson by next class. Let that be a lesson to you not to mess around in my class. Now as I was saying…"
Hermione turned and smirked at Sirius, who glared at her in return.
James watched the interaction and grinned before whispering to Sirius.
"I have a plan to get back at her, you in?"
Sirius looked back at Hermione's head before turning back to James and nodding.
I don't know if this is a good chapter, but please review
