When they breach the surface, they're miles away from Brianna and her heartache. Jazlee insists on staying to explore a new town, to see if there's anything different than the last one, and Kaia wonders if it's because her friend can sense how much pain the young girl's grief had caused. It makes her wish they didn't know each other so well, but at the same time she's grateful, because Kaia doesn't know what she would do if she was left alone.

She also wonders if the story of turning into seafoam may be true.

Two sunsets pass before they decide to explore and to their surprise it's much more colorful and festive than the first town. They're surrounded by stalls filled with food and drinks and trinkets and they can't seem to decide what to look at first. The atmosphere is filled with a buzzing energy that Kaia can feel beneath her skin and it easily sweeps them into its embrace.

She feels her magic swelling as the day continues and before she knows it, Kaia's dancing to a melody only she can hear with a grace that reminds her of the sea. Before long Jazlee's voice accompanies her, breathing life into the music through her words. The humans watching them are in awe, and there's no emptiness in their eyes, a clear sign they're not bewitched by the siren's song. Kaia wonders if it's because of her mermaid magic.

Later, long after the crowd has dispersed and the sun has left the sky, Kaia watches the stars just as she has for the past two nights while Jazlee sleeps beside her. They only have two more sunsets before they must return to the sea, and yet with all that they've done Kaia feels as though she's forgotten something. She stretches her arm to caress a waxing moon and asks her what it could be.

Silence is her answer.
