As Yuuka enjoyed the view the airship gave her, she mentally ran through everything she had learned up to this point. First up was what she may find herself up against; black animal like creatures called Grimm who seemed to take a liking to destruction and taking human life. Yuuka didn't know what to make of the monsters, seeing as much of their origins were an unknown and she didn't have something in Kivotos she could aptly compare them to.
Something of better comparison however was Aura. This worlds equivalent of a Kivotos students halo, which did explain how she shoot at those men and hadn't seriously injured them. Along with that came what they called a semblance which basically boiled down into a super power. Those in this world might consider her shield such a semblance, so during her days of studying of this world she modified her shield so she didn't just need to activate it from her phone, but through a small button hidden inside her coat which was blue toothed to said shield.
There was also dust which acted as this worlds main source of energy and ammunition. She had previously gone yhrough the trouble of finding said dust ammo that was compatible with her SMG's, so she was set from there.
"Coming through!" Before she could mentally take stock more, she quickly manuvered out of the way of a girl with shirt orange hair running by excitedly running by her to talk to a man with long black hair pulled into a pony tail with a streak of magenta.
"This so crazy Ren! We're on a flying bus!" She said to the man, Ren.
"We've already been in the air for two hours, Nora. And I already told you; its an airship. Not a bus." Ren stoicly replies.
'Right, the other students.' Yuuka remembered. She hoped with these modifications she wouldn't stand out much, however she had noticed some people on said airship stareing at her halo with some measure of curiosity. 'Nothing I can do about that. Only way I can make it go away is if I was unconscious.' She just hoped no one tried to unexpectedly grab it. The halos were intangible, so any contact with it would have the person or object phase through it and it would be hard to explain that away. Yuuka had considered just saying it was a part of her semblace, but that explanation came off as a bit flimsy, however for now it was the only one she had.
It wasn't too long until the airship arrived at their destination and let its passangers out, to which a blonde haired boy was the first out to find a trash can to empty his lunch into. Yuuka grimaced as she walked by him. 'Seems there will be some intresting characters here... just like in Kivotos.' She could already sense the potential headaches in the near future. As she exited the airship, she got a good view of Beacon. It certaily was beautifully designed campus with a courtyard with an open circle with archs inside being the most noticable of features. Behind it was a large tower with some strange green lights coming from the floor closest to the top. While the Millennium tower was large, it still didn't take away from the sight. Surrounding the tower behind the courtyard were several buildings. The dorms, cafeteria, library, and classrooms, she assumed. She looked to the many people coming from the same airship as her. 'I may end up having to room with someone... I hope its someone that I can get along with. As she looked, she saw Nora and Ren from the airship, sticking together as they walked away from most of the crowed. She was also able to stop the girl she had stopped the robbery with, who was hanging around a taller girl with long blonde hair. 'Maybe I could get to know her?' Yuuka thought. She continued people watching as they passed by. A girl with long black hair with a bow, the guy who had thrown up after leaving the airship haveing looked to have recovered, a girl with long red hair tied back into a pony tail, a girl with blonde hair tied into twon tails with a halo over her head... what? No way. Yuuka huridly made her waybover to the girl who seemed to busy admiring the sight of the campus itself.
"H-Hifumi?" Yuuka calls out to her. As she got closer, she could better recognize the Peroro backpack with a bunch of matching peroro accessories along with some incindiary grenades. Her Enfield L85A2 assault rifle hung from its sling off her shoulder. The girl quickly turned around with a surprised look in her eyes.
"Yuuka! I finally found you!" She exclaimed.
"Don't tell me, you followed me through that door."
"Ah-hahaha ah, not just me, but Aru came too " Hifumi nervously laughs.
"Well, if anything its comforting knowing I wont be completley alone in my search." Yuuka sighs. "Is Aru here? Where is she?"
"I don't know. I ran through the door and appeared near the docks of this city. No you, no Aru, no Arisu. I wandered about the city... Vale I think it is without seeing any of you." Hifumi explains. "Since Arisu isn't with you, I suppose you don't know where she is either."
Yuuka shook her head confirming the Trinity girls statement. "How are you here? Ozpin never mentioned that he found you."
"Thats strange. He mentioned you when we met. But then again, he found me just yesterday." Hifumi answers.
"Yesterday? Its been a week since we went through that door? Where did you stay?" Yuuka questions, to which Hifumi grimmaces.
"Backallys and the like. Anywhere where I could sleep undisturbed. It was rough, but thankfully Azusa had me run through something similar, so I at least wasn't totally unprepared."
Yuuka grimmaced with Hifumi's explanation. "Well, with us getting dorms now, you can get some better sleep."
"Yes. I hope so!" Hifumi exclaims. "Say, wasn't there somewhere we're supposed to go?"
"For orientation I'm assuming? Yes. Presumably in a large enough building to hold all the new years as well as be easy to find."
"Okay, we should probably head there before- OOF!" Hifumi wasn't watching where she was going as she bumped into a fancy luggage carrier, knocking one of the cases off.
"Hey!" not long after, a girl dressed in white matching long white hair tied into a side pony tail marched right up to them. "What is with this place and the people smashing into my luggage like this!"
"I-I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!" Hifumi profusely apologized.
"You'd be even more sorry if this dust had reacted and exploded! It could have caused a chain reaction with everything else and made a real disaster!" The girl continued to reprimmand.
"Huh? How can dust-" Senseing Hifumi was about to say something showing off her ignorancd of the world, Yuuka stepped in.
"I am so sorry about my friend. She can be a bit clumsy sometimes. I promise I'll keep an eye on her so she doesn't accidently cause any damage."
"I suppose that is reassuing, somewhat." The girl ruddly applied back.
"That emblem on the back of your dress, you're a Schnee, correct?" Yuuka asks her, knowing of the dust company and the family who ran it.
"Ah yes. Weiss Schnee. Heiress to said company you are thinking of."
"Hayase Yuuka. And my friend is Hifumi Ajitani." Yuuka introduces. "I hope that we may get along during our studies here."
"Yes as do I." Weiss smiled.
"Now if you could excuse us, we should probably find where they are hding orientation." Yuuka says before she takes Hifumi further into campus and away from the Schnee girl.
"Yuuka..." Hifumi says with a measure of hurt.
"I'm sorry I talk you down like that. I get the sense that that girl may be a bit too high and mighty for her own good." Yuuka says.
"Ah! Well... I hope being here teaches her to be nicer?" Hifumi offered up.
"Yes, we can onmy hope." Yuuka agrees. "Come on. I think I might have an idea where orientation may be."
True enough, Yuuka had found the gymnasium where most of the new students had gathered. After a small period of waiting, Ozpin vame up on stage, clearing his throat into the microphone to grab everyones attention.
"I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search if knowledge. To hone your craft and aquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But when I look amongst you, all I see is wasted energy in need of purpose, direction. You assume knwoledge will free you but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far." Ozpin than paused for a moment, letting his eyes wander over the crowed. "It is up to you to take the first step."
With that, Ozpin stepped aside to allow Glynda to finish. "You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tommorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed." And with that, she too left the stage.
"Hmm, I have to say... my orientation at Millennium was better." Yuuka admited. "It was like his mind was elsewhere."
"Y-Yuuka, come on now. Perhaps he's just had a long day." Although inwardly, Hifumi did agree with her on that last bit. "To the ballroom, then?" Yuuka nods her agreeance.
Before too long, both the students from Kivotos had laid out their sleeping bags provided by Beacon onto a suitable corner in the room. The world outside had also gotten dark, signifiying that it would soon be time to turn in for the night.
"I wish I had my Peroro sleeping bag with me." Hifumi muttered to herself.
"Ah, because of coarse they have something like that..." Yuuka mutters. "Let me guess... you wish you had your Peroro pajamas as well?" Hifumi could only chuckle nervously, confirming to Yuuka that said pajamas did exist and Hifumi owned a pair which was expected of the Peroro super fan. Ozpin had also provided some Beacon pajamas for the two, so no need to sleep in their usual clothes.
"Hello!" The two heard someone holler. With that, the two watched a girl with long blonde hair approach them. With her was the girl who helped Yuuka stop the robbery. "I believe you two know each other." The blonde started them out.
"Yes. Sorry I never got your name earlier." Yuuka sat up.
"Its Ruby. Ruby Rose." The girl, Ruby introduced. "And this is my older sister Yang Xiao Long."
Yuuka made sure to hide her minor confusion. The two sure didn't look related, added on to the fact they had different last names. Deciding it was none of her business, Yuuka discarded the thought. "I'm Yuuka Hayase. My friend here is Hifumi Ajitani." Hifumi stood up at her introduction.
"Its really nice to meet both of you." Hifumi excitedly said.
"Y-Yeah, nice to meet you too, Hifumi." The two awkwardly shake hands.
"Soooooo..." Yang starts off. "Where did you two come from?"
"Uhuhuhuh, well..." Hifumi flounders so Yuuka steps in.
"We both came from a set of villages outside Vale." Yuuka answers. "I'm from a village called Millennium." Yuuka looks to Hifumi, basically handing her her lines.
"Oh, and my village is called Trinity!" She exclaims.
"Hey, we're from just outside Vale too!" Yang exclaims. "On the island of Patch, actually."
"Oh! I bet you guys have a lovely view from the coast!" Hifumi gushed.
"Damn right we did." Yang confirmed.
"Say, how do you two know each other?" Ruby asked them.
"Millennium and Trinity often had buisness with each other. We would often tag along for meetings which is how we met." Yuuka answers. "It was the same with another village called Gehenna which is how we know some people there as well."
"Cool. Is there anyone from Gehenna here now?" Yang asks.
"Hmm... I don't know, Aru never told me if she was going to attend or not." Yuuka answered vaguely.
"Oh, did you two have some other friends that are attending here as well?" Hifumi asks.
Ruby smikes weakly at this. "Ah... no. All my friends are still at Signal. Ozpin let me skip ahead two years."
"Ah, you must be quite skilled and intelligent if he deemed it be alright you skip thise two years." Yuuka said. "You must have shown great promise to him."
"See, I told you." Yang softly said to her sister.
"I... I don't know about all that. Truthfully I don't know why he ket me come to Beacon early." Ruby admited.
"But what Yuuka said must be true. I don't know you very well, but I hope to get to know you more as we stay here!" Hifumi exclaims.
"See, look at that! Plus two friends! That wasn't that hard!" Yang exclaims.
"Yang!" Ruby complains, embarrassed that she brought that up in front of said new found friends.
"Oh, you have trouble making friends?" Hifumi asks. "Don't worry. I have a friend who's like that too. She's gotten much better since I first met her. If you're anything like her, you'll be fine on that front in no time."
"Oh, um thank you then." Ruby awkwardly replies.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't make you feel uncomfortable I hope." Hifumi frets.
"Oh, no! Its just um... I didn't know how to respond..." An awkward silence permeates around the group.
"Uh, hey Ruby. May I ask why you choose to become a huntress?" Yuuka asked in an attempt to rid of the curret atmosphere. "If that isn't to personal that is."
"Oh no, it isn't. I just always wanted to be the like the heros in the storys I read as a child. Someone to help people and save innocent lives." Ruby more confidently responds.
"Wow, thats really noble." Hifumi says. "I'm sure you'll achive your dream in no time."
Yuuka on the other hand, was a little sckeptical. "You know reality isn't like a fairy tale right? I'm not trying to disrespect your lifes aspiration or anything, but the world isn't as black and white as a those storys probably were. Sometimes life won't give us a happy ending." Hifumi frowned at Yuuka when she said those words, not upset at Yuuka particularly, but not likeing her take on Ruby's dream.
"Thats why we're here, right? To help make it better." Ruby said, unphased by Yuuka, to which Hifumi smiled.
'She and I are going to get along really well. I wonder if she would like Momo and Friends?'
"I'm so proud of you!" Tang grabbed Ruby in a big bear hug.
"Yang!" Ruby complained before decking her sister in the face, breaking out a play fight between the two.
"Well, heheh it was nice to meet you two?" Hifumi said awkwardly as she watched the two fight. "I guess we'll-"
"Whats all the racket over here?!" And just like that, the group saw Weiss in her own blue pajamas and unbound hair march over towards them. "Some of us are trying to get some sleep!"
"Oh not you again!" Both Yang and Ruby cried out.
"Wait, you two know her?" Yuuka questioned.
"Yes. This girl nearly blew us off the cliff with how carless she was!" Weiss complained.
"I told you it was an accident!" Ruby cried out.
"Yeah, whats your problem my sister!" Yang shot back.
"She's a hazard to my health!" Weiss exclaimed.
"Or myabe your a hazard to hers!" Hifumi shot back, surprising Yuuka somewhat. "You're the one bullying people over what amounts to something really small."
"You call a potential explosion really small, and in her case an actual one!" Weiss argued.
"Yes! No one got hurt did they, so everything is fine!" Hifumi argued back.
"Yeah, so why don't you go somewhere else and chill out." Yang demanded.
Yuuka could only sigh as this devolved. It looked like someone was mildly intrested though, a girl with long back hair and a bow in her hair with a book in her hand watched the scene with a very stoic expression. The two locked eyes and she shot Yuuka a sympathetic glance. Oh how she would much rather be in that other girls place than in the middle of this argument.
So, we'll see initiation next time eh? Please tell me how I did on writing Hifumi, I'm kind of finding her surprising hard to write dialogue for, which probably comes across in thus chapter. Another thing, its no secret that her, Yuuka, Aru, and Arisu are going to form a Beacon team. Problem I have is what their team name's gonna be. My best thoughts could only come up with team HAAY. Like a hay bale, you know like staw colour? Yeah, its not that great. Maybe you guys could help me out in the reviews section? Much appreciated if you do.
